Spice Club Indian Restaurant in Allerdale

Ordered a takeaway for collection during our family weekend break in Keswick Lodge Retreat. All I can say is we had great service from the restaurant, drove fifteen minutes back and food still piping hot ..The flavours were outstanding and the chicken tikka soooo tender ..poppadoms fresh and crispy and the nann breads were fab ..we would highly recommend this takeaway ..great value for money !!

Get takeaway on a regular basis from here, live in Cockermouth. Tonight they tried to charge £10 more. Not the regular manager on site or staff, the guy who was in restaurant was rude and obnoxious. As a local, very disappointed and won’t go back.

Regularly order takeout from the Spice Club. Ordered over the phone, went to collect and at least £6 more than usual. No prices on handwritten order so did they guess? Guy on counter wouldn’t entertain any queries and then said don’t come back. Not a great way to treat regular, local customers especially when the restaurant was very quiet.

Food quality is not good very salty . Staff behaviour awful. Their staff also asks personal questions, they want to know personal information, normally ask where are you from & what you do for living . First time I got awful experience in my life.

Shocking customer service … main guy very passive aggressive. The restaurant was empty we got sat by the door which was quite cold asked to move to the corner that wasnt booked he refused in a controlling manner you are two you WILL sit here remember the restaurant has no other customers… I said I don’t think so don’t like your attitude we are Leaving . His answer was fine bye!!!! And that is why your restaurant is empty! Will not return!!!!

A group of us went for a meal, 8 poppadoms and dips 3 different starters 5 different mains Not 1 complaint from anyone, the service was attentive and would be hard to beat without crowding you out. I had the lamb Tamarind with Keema rice and couldn't finish it as there was way to much. One of the best Tamarind dishes I've had. Take home bags were required, reasonably priced, lovely restaurant. 1 minor thing, there is only 1 toilet for the gents, so a queue easily forms. Well worth a visit, we will definitely be going back.

The food is fine. On the pricy side but lots of choice and tasty. There is, however, a slightly strange atmosphere which I can’t quite put my finger on. The waiters are, frankly, a little odd….

We had the set menu for 2 to takeaway and the food was really nice (particularly the Massala). Portions were very generous and staff were polite and friendly when we collected our order. Restaurant also looked lovely and clean.

The food was great and most of the staff were good however, the main waiter wasn't friendly or helpful ref our table. He insisted we had one of 2 tables for 2, both not in great positions despite many tables for 4 not occupied. When we we're satisfied he said "you can leave". We stayed as hungry after a long journey. During our time there (Thursday evening), a number of tables for 4 we're unoccupied, and one had 2 people using it. Not happy & won't return.

The best Indian food w shave has in a long time. Great service and top quality food. Can’t recommend highly enough. We had a sharing platter for 2 that would have served 4. All the dishes were excellent

The Spice Club. 25-27 Main Street, Cockermouth Cumbria, LA13 9LE Tel: 01900 823146 Date of Visit: 23rd September 2023. A fishing buddy gave me the Heads up on this restaurant up in Cockermouth. After reading some less than kind reviews on Trip Advisor, I was more than apprehensive about going up there and trying it out. However, I need not have worried about it at all. I Landed up in Cockermouth right in the middle of the Cockermouth Food Festival and the place was packed and parking a nightmare. As I was quite early and not expecting the restaurant to open until 1730 hours, so I took advantage and had a look round the excellent food stalls. Making my way slowly along Main Street until I found the very smart, clean and comfortable 60-seater Spice Club, as it was only 15 minutes past 4, I was quite surprised to see that it looked like it was open. On entering I was invited to take a seat close to the window with a good view of all that was going on around me. The waiter, by the name of Naz, greeted me with a warm friendly smile and showed me to a table. I placed my order for two poppadom’s with a pickle tray, Sheek Kebabs, Chicken Madras, pilau Rice, and a Peshwari Nan. Service was slick and prompt, the food was piping hot when it arrived, Sheek kebabs were probably not the best I’ve ever had but certainly not the worst either. Chicken Madras with big chunks of soft succulent chicken, a nice thick sauce which was perfectly spiced and a nice flavoured Pilau rice and one of the nicest Peshwari naans ever with a layer of melted honey drizzled on the top which added a nice sweetness, a bit sticky on the fingers but hey, no problem. A pint of Cobra to wash it all down and hey, I was a very happy man! Well-staffed, friendly smiling people, and certainly no hint whatsoever of “get em fed and get em out. Would I go back? You bet your life I would. Price was a tad over £35.00 I will award this establishment 9/10 my only disappointment was they did not do a take-out menu so I will have to try and print one out

In all the curry houses I’ve been to this one has got to rate as one of the worst I’ve ever been to. Not very attentive poor service, the medium curry I had was so hot and lacking in flavour the meat could have been anything.. the rice was the only thing I could eat. I wish I had gone to the ‘alternative takeaway’ place (so aptly named) which was across the road. Least I would’ve been able to taste something. On our recent visit to Cockermouth we had stopped and eat at this very lovely restaurant. Even though we didn’t have a booking and was late on a bank holiday Monday , the staff tried to accommodate us asap. Food was delicious. Very very busy so we will definitely return and book in advance

This establishment is not all its cracked up to be. I ordered a takeaway at 7.15 on a Sunday evening, and was told it would take 45mins, no problem, went back to collect it and had to wait 10 more mins. Okay they were busy which isn't an issue if you get a great meal, this wasn't. The sauce on my king prawn masala was the consistency of week old porridge and my partners North Indian chili and garlic tikka chicken had him visiting the porcelain throan on an almost hourly basis! It was literally £40 down the toilet, ahh well you live and learn.

Brusque to the point of rude, inattentive and very slow service. Waiter came to take our order 10 minutes after he’d already taken it. Another waiter came to clear the table before I had finished. (My wife had already finished because her curry, described as ‘medium’, was actually ‘hot’ - certainly far too hot for her.) We had been looking forward to this meal, which my wife had booked to round off my birthday celebrations. I was more or less scolded like a child for having the temerity to ask if they served any beers on draft. Then I was handed a drinks menu. And 20 minutes later someone came to take our drinks order. And 45 minutes after that the meal itself arrived. The only reason we stayed is that, it being a Sunday evening, no other restaurants appeared to be open in the town. (We were visitors, spending the weekend there.) Thinking about going there? Miss it!

Great food, always is. 5 stars However a few negatives, make it a shame…!!! So. 1 star 1. They didn’t do Kids portions of any foods. So it’s full price even though my daughter only eats a little. It’s just a waste of food. 2. I asked for a warm water finger bowl to remove honey from eating peshwari Nan. Answer no we don’t do that service!!!! Go to the toilet!! You should change you negative stance on these two points. Your customers are always right.

Top authentic Indian & Bangladeshi restaurant. It’s hard to find a good place up in the north whilst your on a little holiday break I can’t fault this place at all. Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Value 10/10 Parking Ok Yes they serve Cobra beer

Used to love this place. Sadly it’s gone very much downhill - the sauce was watery and didn’t have much taste, plus the lamb in my mum’s curry was tough as old boots, it took an hour and a half to arrive (two curries, a sag aloo, a rice and a naan bread) plus everything is overpriced - £5 for poppadoms and a pickle tray that were brought without us asking for it? Their card machine ‘still isn’t working’ so I suppose that would be for tax evasion purposes since it ‘hasn’t worked’ ever.

Very helpful staff as my wife can only handle mild spicey food.great food great service a very enjoyable meal .definitely be back..

Delicious curries, we shared three between four of us with rice and peshwari naan which was definitely enough! Peshwari naan very tasty although comes with a lot of honey which is a little too sweet. Restaurant nice service pretty good, would definitely visit again.

Fabulous food, what more can I say? We were taken to our table, offered drinks and the menu, and within 20 minutes of placing our order, were served one of the best tamarind chickens i've had in a long time, I must also add that...

Reserva informal ya que todos disfrutamos de la comida india. El servicio fue excelente. La comida era excelente y el personal era extremadamente agradable, servicial y eficiente. Los 4 comemos regularmente en restaurantes indios y el Spice Club Cockermouth se compara favorablemente. Sin duda volveremos aquí cuando en la zona de nuevo.

Nuestro primer pedido de bebidas fue tomado y no llegaron bebidas (esto fue después de 15 minutos), así que tuvimos que preguntarle a otro camarero si podíamos tomar nuestras bebidas ahora, y las trajo. Los entrantes salieron bastante rápido y la comida unos 20 minutos después. El plato principal era fresco, caliente y sabroso, realmente lo disfrutamos mucho, sin embargo, a la mitad de nuestra comida pedimos otra bebida y el camarero desapareció y nunca nos la trajo, lo cual fue una pena (podría entender si el restaurante estaba lleno También tomó un tiempo recibir nuestra factura y realizar el pago.

El Spice Club siempre ha sido un restaurante favorito y un lugar para llevar para mí.Sin embargo, recientemente he tenido que esperar un tiempo considerable al recoger mi comida para un pedido para llevar, a pesar de llegar a la hora indicada.Ayer me pidieron que llegara a las 6. 45, esto fue 50 minutos después de realizar mi pedido.Así lo hice, y luego tuve que esperar otros 30 minutos hasta que estuvo listo. El restaurante estaba muy ocupado con la mayoría de las mesas en uso.Después de conseguir mi comida, sin disculparme por ser tan tarde, regresé a casa. Vivo a 5 minutos. La comida estaba tibia y hubo que volver a calentarla en el microondas.Extremadamente decepcionante.
