3 of us popped in on our way home to West Sussex. Oh my goodness......all three of us wholeheartedly agreed that it was the best cream tea we have ever tasted. Thank you so much for accommodating us, not long before closing. Garden is beautiful, sat in the sunshine to enjoy our warm scones with jam & cream. Tea was plentiful, service fabulous. If we could give 10 stars ...we would. thank you so much

Stayed with my partner 2 nights B&B on recommendation. Arrived Friday in time for a wonderful cream tea, yum! Warm scones, clotted cream, jam, pots of tea - decaf and regular - in the beautiful garden set with tables and chairs - really lovely. Car parking on site too. This is a very old, thatched roof property so no comparison to modern overstays but what a wonderful place - from a different age with floors creakey and uneven, absolutely no straight walls but perfectly sympathetically presented by the owner who could have not been more pleasant. He was quietly attentive, a little chat and moved on. The double bedroom with ensuite is what it is as above, but spotlessly clean with everything you need. Free wifi, tea, coffee, biscuits, bedside lamps and tables, smart tv, towels and a lovely comfy bed. We had a deep little walk-in cupboard for hanging clothes and storage. We had a full english breakfast each morning cooked to order which was delicious with cereals offered and hot toast and jam and marmalade, orange juice, tea and coffee. This really is a little gem of a place.

The southern cross guest house and tea room, great two day stay host was excellent and could not do enough for you, the breakfast was amazing and the marmalade was homemade, and I received a jar from the host to enjoy at home, spotlessly clean, and there was plentiful towels, the ensuite was also amazing, parking is also excellent, I am definitely going to return, one of the best I have stayed in.

Another visit to my favourite place for afternoon tea or a light meal. On 21 June we popped in for a light lunch in their delightful garden where we had the choice of sunny or shady table. We started with a 250ml glass of prosecco, perfectly chilled! I had the ham, cheese and pineapple melt on a toasted muffin and my friend has a cheese scone, fresh from the oven with plenty of butter and chutney. Both were absolutely delicious as always. We had a dog with us who was also very well attended too with a fresh bowl of clean cold water and a welcome. It was not our dog and did not behave particularly well, failing to settle quickly but nothing was too much trouble from the owners of the Southern Cross. Apologies here to other visitors! We will return again soon but minus the dog!

Booked for two nights but left after one . Twin room very dated and poorly appointed . Beds uncomfortable . Room located overlooking a busy main road which meant could not keep window open at night in the hot weather. Street light opposite didn’t help with sleep either. Ordered two poached eggs on toast for breakfast , which to be fair we got , however a bit stingy putting two eggs on one piece of toast. Shame as looked good on website

A warm welcome in this 18th century cottage. On the main road through the village. The Southern Cross guest house has bags of atmosphere. The bedroom floor very uneven due to its age. Very clean and the breakfast is delicious. Very good value for money. The wifi is good. There is a carpark but you have to be very careful exiting as the traffic wizzes past. Even though the traffic goes past very close there no noise in the bedrooms. They do afternoon tea, we didn’t have to cakes and scones but they looked yummy. We would recommend The Southern Cross.

I have had take aways from this delightful, family run business. Always good service and the garden is quintessentially English. The scones (we had fruit) are as they should be, crusty on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It feels a safe place to visit and you can park easily. Good value for money too. Highly worth visiting for a real Devonian cream tea.

Sehr schön hergerichtetes ca. 300 Jahre altes Haus mit Atmosphäre. Sauberes Zimmer mit passender liebevoller Einrichtung. Frühstücksraum sehr ansprechend eingerichtet mit Charakter. Die Orangenmarmelade war sehr delikat.

It was such a lovely day, we took tea in the garden. A beautiful little garden, and freely made pot of tea, in bone china cups. A good selection of sandwiches and cakes. We opted for apple scones with blackberry jam and clotted cream. The owner even took the trouble to serve the scones warm. They were absolutely gorgeous. Thank you. We will be back.

Arranged for my son and grand-kids to join us for an afternoon tea. Had to wait for food to be prepared (a good sign) but the coffee was excellent as was the portions of cake (chocolate & almond). My wife & I enjoyed our cheese scone (served warm) and the apple chutney to accompany these was sharp and extremely tasty. Great tea time choices at a good price!

we spent one night here to visit the donkey sanctuary .. we had room 2 .. large and airy and full of character .. good friendly service and a comfy bed .. good hot breakfast i read on other reviews about road noise and noisy plumbing: didn't hear hardly any road noise and i sleep light .. plumbing well in such an old building prob listed you can't pull it apart so the alternative is to have a macerator which are a bit noisy but only for a short time certainly didn't bother me!! people shouldn't be so picky and understand the difficulties!! we had a great stay in a truly beautiful old place

My partner and I just spent 2 nights at the Southern Cross and it was very enjoyable. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and I was able to meet their new puppy as well who is adorable. It is a beautiful old building and the original character is well preserved. Bed very comfortable, room clean, plenty of tea and milk in room. We would definitely return there on our next visit to Devon.

Superb cream tea's! Home made scones were massive, lashings of jam & a massive pot of clotted cream from a local farm, so good quality products & plenty of it. Very good value too.

I arrived late, changed the booking twice but was met by a warm reception. The guest house was clean, food good and a very sociable atmosphere. Beautiful part of the country. I would recommend this to anyone requiring accommodation in the area.

We had a nice roast dinner today with tender meat and lots of vegetables, however the Yorkshire puddings were disappointing.

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!
