Southend Plaice in Gateshead

I have used the cafe a number of times now, great value and service. The mince & dumplings is fantastic, as are the giant Yorkshire puddings with beef or chicken. Proper old style cafe

Went in for a bag of chips, was there that long it may as well have been breakfast! They even managed to serve someone who came in after me, BEFORE i got my order! 2 clueless people serving, some dude wandering backwards & forwards…… no organisation whatsoever. And the portion size, i had about half a dozen chips under a mountain of batter. Never again. If you’ve never been, dont bother, go to the chinese around the corner.

Delicious ham & cheese omelette with side salad. Work nearby, wanted a high protein lunch cos I’m doing great north run next week… This was absolutely the best choice: tasty, great value & made expertly!

Ordered fish and chips .fish was a good portion and well cooked.The chips were freshly cooked while we waited so I can't blame their extreme dryness on being kept hot ,so I can only assume that it is due to the potatoes being cheap. The chips also had LOTS of large black bits consequently they went in the bin .Staff very nice but we will not be back .

Stopped here for a bite on a lunch time break, the staff seemed nice enough. The food, mince and dumplings, was OK, not bad but run of the mill. Fine for the price. The portions made up for that though, big plate full. The tables are very small, and wobbly, and weren't very clean. Probably won't go here again if I'm honest.
