My friends and I came for lunch after 1 previous visit before lockdown. We all opted for the roast dinner and wow - it was absolutely delicious!!! We all said it was the best roast dinner we'd ever had!!! Every part of it tasted amazing and we cleared our plates! We also couldn't resist having a dessert and those were also amazing, we're already planning our next visit!!!

Stopped here for lunch over a weekend. Lunch menu was a bit off, but both found something to order. One of us had what the menu described as portobello mushrooms with poached eggs. What turned up was one mushroom and one egg. Not quite as described on the menu, and while good flavours absolutely not worth the £11+ we were charged. If there had been two mushrooms and two eggs I wouldn’t have minded the price. The other one of us had the tuna melt ciabatta. Hard to get wrong but found it a bit odd that it had random bits of carrot in. Overall we found the Staff were friendly and pleasant. Would just say the menu was quite odd and very overpriced for what we had.

Don’t know what the review is about below me “ Mum loves to moan “ myself and my partner Polly walked here from dorking this morning , the staff and food were amazing . We eat out very often , this honestly was better than the Sunday lunch we had at the ritz! If your unsure about going here , see for yourself how great this little gem is ! The staff are very good , also when the chef walked out we both looked at him and he came up to us and asked if everything was ok ! We were looking at him because he was so clean and fresh looking ! We joked to each other and said he must be the dentist ! He’s whites we gleaming ! I can’t rate this place and staff any higher ! Thankyou all !

Slow service, had to repeat orders a number of times. Not Covid friendly put drinks on our table meant for another table, and then took them away to the other table without changing glasses etc. Ordered vegetarian meals for two vegetarians and eggs and bacon for the meat eater. They put the bacon on the vegetarian meal and bought it back without the bacon and not respectful enough to make again it again without bacon until we argued to get this done. No jam, no diet coke and just bought different items without checking then got cross when we didn't want them. Very slow staff who seemed very inexperienced, and manager/owner very shouty and aggressive when we complained. He told us not to pay, we would have but he was so aggressive we just left without finishing. Awful people, service and food - avoid, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Having lived in Dorking for more than 3 years we were so happy to find this excellent café just outside of town. The owner and staff are all very good, friendly and attentive, and the food is excellent. We have made a tradition now of going for their full breakfast every Sunday morning and we love it every time. Another great thing about this place is they have Hofmeister on tap! It is a great place to go for afternoon drinks. I cannot recommend this Café enough and I just wish there was more than 5 stars I could give.

Stopped for coffee and cake on a lunch time. Everything was really nice and looking around the other diners I will definitely be back as the sunday lunches looked really good. What lets this place down is the ambience (or lack of it)! Magnolia walls and no real decoration other than a few local artists paintings. Just feels a bit soleless.

Visited here for the first time last week with our group of 6 walkers. Between us we had the Burrito, BLT, Bacon sandwich and the Waffles. The Burrito was probably the best breakfast item I’ve ever had - very tasty and well made. All the other items were thoroughly enjoyed and the Wafgle plate was huge and fed most of us. Will be visiting again to try lunch or Sunday dinner and definitely breakfast very soon.

We visited the Southdown Kitchen recently for Sunday lunch. I have to say that it was a very enjoyable experience. We were early so although it wasn't busy, I thought there was a great atmosphere. Real mix of people, families and dogs. I had the nut roast which was the best I have ever tasted, the veg was perfect & potatoes and Yorkshire pudding delicious. My husband had the pork belly and enjoyed it whilst my mother opted for the burger; both excellent choices. We couldn't manage any pudding so took a piece of chocolate & walnut and banana & butterscotch cake home for later which was very fresh and tasty. Staff were very attentive too. Very reasonably priced. Can't wait to return.

Arrived at noon and advised they were just printing the new lunch menu. When this arrived ordered roast beef sandwiches which was on there. Then the waitress came back and told us could not do this. Ordered the steak on sour dough and onion relish with poached egg. The sour dough with the onion relish spread was left under the pass lights while they cooked the steak. This then had a poached egg on top and a mountain of rocket. The steak was excellent but the onion relish had completely saturated the sour dough which just turned it into a gooey onion mess. The poached egg was over cooked and very little runny yoke. Suggest they toast the sour dough well and put the steak on when ready to serve. Onion relish would be better on the side. Once waitress took order she didn’t come back until we got our meal. In this time I had drunk my coffee and would have liked another. By the time she returned it was too late. Will not be going back.

We were regulars at the Southdown Kitchen...during the week, the food is lovely and good quality, the staff really friendly and can't do too much to help, its a great place for lunch or breakfast. Good coffee, great food and great cakes, we can't fault it. However, recently we have been in on Saturdays and found the atmosphere a bit different, and a little chaotic, with long waits . How long does it take to cook 2 x Italian Sandwiches, 1 x Omelette (chips extra) and a Burger when the restaurant was a quarter full? The best part of one hour was certainly not acceptable and I was very tempted to walk out but had gone there to take my sister and brother-in-law out for a quick bite to eat before they travelled back to Lincolnshire. The two cups of coffee were slopped into the saucer and dumped on the table. Just one knife available on the table.I think the young staff need to get a grip as to customer service.Again, I won't be venturing back there any time soon.

Roast beef is a better cut than other places, so delicious and really tender, but portion rather big. Veg disappointing - small pale carrots with muddy looking tops and trailing roots, crinkly cabbage with some hard stalks. Yorkshire pudding ridiculously big and liable to be slightly burnt, I refuse them so as not to waste a lot.. Two roast potatoes was enough, they were very crunchy but one was under the meat which could have made it soggy, good gravy said to be marrowbone.Crumble was very crumbly and custard was rather sweet, but good amount of pears and some quince. Don't have pudding unless you missed breakfast.Decaf coffee not as good as eg National Trust. Not too noisy as not many other people.

We eat at Southdown regularly as live local. We had breakfast here with some friends this morning and noticed the small changes immediately. As some people have mentioned here the noise and feel, I thought it would be good to to write an updated review. First, the kitchen has been made bigger which brings it a little bit closer to the restaurant and making the whole place feel cosier. The team also have more space which is great for them and keeping up demand. They’ve also installed some sound absorbers on the ceiling. It’s incredible how much difference this has made to making it feel less clinical. So if you were put off by the atmosphere, give it another go. The food is consistently excellent.

A treat to have a nice cafe in Brockham, so well done to the owners. The service needs to be improved as it is very slow and to ask for things two or three times is unnecessary and frustrating. Salt & pepper on the table, sauces, how about offering a jug of water....it's not rocket science. Also, the noise and sound is dreadful. On a busy Sunday morning, it's unbearable with other people's kids running around in football boots etc. Nothing wrong with atmosphere but there no furnishings, so no noise is absorbed. Please get some blinds and plants, some sort of dividers between tables to absorb the noise, then many more people will return.

We have eaten here - and had coffee here - on several occasions. The food is surprisingly good for a rather, on an initial impression, unpreprosessing place. Service was good too - efficient and friendly. My one complaint (a rectifiable one) is that the level of noise is too high. Like most restaurants nowadays, hard furnishing everywhere just allows noise to reverberate.

We’ve been many times as this is so local for us. Despite this, we’ve only ever made it for breakfast but that just down to pure circumstance. Friends and neighbours tell us the Sunday lunch is amazing. We will make it at some point soon I hope. Meantime, we are extremely lucky to have South Down just a stroll away and delighted seeing it going from strength to strength. Perfect for dog walkers too as there is plenty of space and your furry friends are permitted inside and out. Although we’ve been going since they opened, this is my first review - prompted by seeing a few negative ones. I can only think those people were unlucky and do hope they will give South Down another chance at least for the High quality breakfast.

We have been twice now for breakfast here. The food is absolutely scrumptious and the full breakfast really delivers on filling you up for the day ! I think with the space, the seating could be a bit more comfortable, perhaps a range of table and chair styles / sizes and more softer seating though there's plenty of room for dogs and lots of people. The pizza oven looks cool too and would love to try one of their Sunday roasts soon. Love new independent businesses starting up and in such a good spot for walking. We called in for a light lunch, the cafe was almost empty. We ordered a quesadilla with peppers, courgette, black beans, tomatoes, guacamole and mozarella, and a cake. The cake was delicious, but when the quesadilla arrived it was charred almost black in places and as hard as a crisp. I don't think it should have ever have left the kitchen in that state. There was no rush on so no reason why it was so overcooked. The filling, was fine, but the quesadilla almost inedible. I would have sent it back, but the person I was with couldn't wait for a replacement, so nothing was done. It was a disappointment that what would have been a nice meal was so poorly prepared.

First restaurant review ever! A bit of a Tripadvisor novice but here goes…………this is the place for quality and well cooked food. My son’s girlfriend and I had a girlie night out. We had the fillet steak on the Steak and Wine specialist event and both were cooked perfectly to order and were so tender. To follow I had the rhubarb and custard fool and she had the chocolate fondant dessert.....superb! Staff were friendly, professional and attentive, food was high quality and clearly freshly cooked and the atmosphere was vibrant. Well done to the chefs headed by Matthew and front of house staff headed by Ece, the proprietor. We had sight of the menu for the next specialty event in June which is seafood based, it looks amazing. I’m already rounding up friends and family to join me for that. I have already enjoyed several Sunday roasts and breakfasts here but this place is getting better and better!

I love a tasty cooked english breakfast and trust me when I say I am well qualified in this department. Friendly reception and seated with lots of room, I hate being crammed in, don’t we all. Lovely open plan dining, family and child friendly and relaxed environment and good parking. Large breakfasts for our group, so where do I start? This is fundamentally a posh nosh cooked breakfast worthy of some serious praise. Scrumptious sausages seasoned and no grease and bacon cooked beautifully with griddle markings yum !Then the eggs, wow, best I’ve probably ever had with beautiful golden orange yokes. The breakfast love in continues with piping hot baked beans separated from a crisp black pudding that disappoints almost every time in cooked breakfasts, well not here, it’s crusty and crisp and flavoursome. Then there’s the toast, fresh bread sliced up, toasted and generous round chunky cuts of butter, there’s toast and this toast and butter and it is lovely and how refreshing and old school with the butter presentation, no runny butter in small wrapped foils or plastic pots to contend with. Washed down with really decent coffee this is a real gem of a find and I can only imagine the lunches and rest of the menus on view will be equally as good and high standard. The old saying you get what you pay for applies here, a fantastic tasty cooked English breakfast.

We were offered a table and were seated with menus by very friendly staff, after choosing the roast pork. This desert was a new addition to the menu, which consisted of a smooth chocolate ganache with a drizzle of delicious white chocolate sauce and pieces of raspberry. Very satisfied with the service, atmosphere and beautiful food. Re-Visited as a family of four after a great initial visit. This time wasn’t so successful. Asked if could replace black pudding with something else on brekky- “no” was the answer. Eggs were all over cooked and hard. Not ideal for eggs Benedict. Toast dry as no butter. Coffee luke warm. Ham so chilled it clashed with the warm hollandaise sauce and made the meal unpleasant. Tasty sauce though. Owner/Manager didn’t seem interested in customer satisfaction at all. Added to a real lack of warmth in the venue, we won’t go back which is a shame as we like to support local business. This has been my second visit to the restaurant, I previously went for a coffee. This time I decided to not only to have a coffee but also have the all day breakfast. I placed the order as I went in at the counter then found a seat. The coffee I had ordered was brought to me very quickly (beautiful fresh ground coffee) with milk in a separate jug. My breakfast was cooked to order and consisted of 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs sliced grilled tomato, mushrooms, beans and black pudding along with toast on a side plate. I was asked if I would like any sauces to accompany the breakfast and I asked for English mustard that was brought to me in a little pot with a spoon. All the food was piping hot and beautifully presented. I throughly enjoyed the meal and surroundings. I'm a truck driver and I take my chances when I stop for an English breakfast. Mostly they are terrible. This one was first class. Huge chunks of crusty farmhouse toast, not the usual slice of soggy foam, a round of butter to match; bigger than six or eight of those irritating individual packs. Quality sausage, brilliant orange yoke suggesting a local free range egg, fine bacon, nice mushys and plenty of beans. Lovely coffee. Can't fault it. I read another review saying a bit more comfort needed, yes, the seats are hard, but the staff were soft and charming. Also, free newspaper to read, and a decent one at that. We visited for lunch and were impressed by the variety of choice on the menu and the lovely ambience. The chicken salad was delicious and the cakes made a lovely dessert. Definitely worth a visit!

An alluring menu! We had the full monty and avo-smash on toast with poached egg, plus green tea and soya latte. Absolutely delicious. Well-cooked with some creative touches, beautifully presented and at a good price!

Heard about this place through Get Surrey and as we were visiting Dorking thought we'd give it a try. Hubby had the full English as per but I went for smashed avo and poached egg. Lovely. Really nice coffee. The loos are spotless and the staff very helpful and friendly . Defo recommend

Driving along the A25, we came across this little gem of a cafe with its generously sized car park, clean and tidy garden and a wonderful selection of freshly prepared food for our lunch. We ordered two Full English Breakfasts comprising of sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs. mushrooms, black pudding and beans plus toast. Excellent quality and very tasty! I ordered a coffee and a slice of the freshly homemade coffee and walnut cake which was divine. If you are fed up with cafe chains and yearn to be served good quality, freshly made food, with a friendly atmosphere and lovely accommodating staff, come to Southdown Cafe!

The food is fantastic with the scrambled eggs being superb . The staff are so helpful . Quick service . Could do with a few plants or dividers inside but I’m sure this will happen as only just opened .

It was a wonderful surprise to stumble open this cafe. The relaxed atmosphere, great service and friendly, attentive staff was enough to return; yet by popular opinion the superb coffee and cake was enough in itself. we plan on visiting again very soon.

Noticed this new cafe while out and about last weekend, so thought we would stop by for lunch today. So very glad we did. Lovely large venue, with tasteful decor and spotlessly clean. There is a nice garden area if you wish to eat outside. I had a glass of white wine, which was delicious. Excellent coffee too. My Husband and I both had the Ploughman's which arrived promptly and well presented. We were offered more bread if required, which was appreciated. Delicious selection of local cheeses, chunky slices of ham, and my favourite, the homemade sausage roll - when I admitted to stealing my Husband's slice, he was given a replacement!!! Even though we were quite full, we couldn't resist sharing a large piece of very reasonably priced chocolate and guiness cake - wow! On visiting the ladies, I was not at all surprised to find everything immaculate, and again nicely decorated. We will definitely return, and hope this new cafe has the success it so clearly deserves.

Went here for lunch with friends, had a lovely chicken and bacon cearear salad. It was huge and might put some people off, I love salad esp on the hot days we have been having lately. They do breakfast and lunches, cakes and hot drinks. I recommend that you go and try it out.

Food orders not correct, bits of food missing, extremely slow service. Some food turned up way before others, meaning lots of our table were finished before some even got their food. Drinks took a particularly long time! And sadly it wasn’t even busy, probably only 12-15 people, so no excuse there!

Popped in on the way to Reigate the other weekend with a friend for brunch. Amazing coffee (which is rare around these parts!), and delicious food. They have a great selection on the menu of savories and cakes to suit all tastes!

Popped in here for a coffee. The staff were friendly, and the cafe was immaculate. The coffee was the best I have had for a long time. It was HOT and a good strength and a generous amount. Very rare to find these days!!

We’ve just spent a pleasant hour or so having a family breakfast at the latest local restaurant to hit the Surrey Hills, Southdowns Coffee and Wine. This is a causal dining restaurant and coffee shop offering locally sourced produce at reasonable prices. The breakfast menu is diverse offering a wide range of options from the traditional english breakfast, bacon and sausage sandwiches, American pancakes to healthy and innovative options such as speared eggs which is poached eggs, sautéed mushrooms and asparagus on sour dough bread. The coffee is tasty, smooth well rounded and the tea options covers all tastes, my wife had a posh peppermint. The service was quick and efficient and the staff were very friendly and attentive without being too intrusive. Breakfast for 5 with homemade cake to take away was 35gbp. Bravo well done!!

There is a really nice atmosphere in this café which has expanded in recent times. The background music is at a pleasant level for chatting and the food very good-the vegetarian open sandwich was particularly tasty.

Great, simple and inexpensive but delicious pub grub. Staff were welcoming but genuine, dog friendly, and board games available to borrow!

Reviews seemed good so gave it a spin. Asked for half pounder with cheese and bacon & chips. Rather than be told they don't do half pounders, I was served up two super skinny burgers, exceptionally dry, nothing special, minus the bacon. Took almost 15 minutes to come out. Disappointing. The salt lid wasn't properly secured, went all over the chips rendering them inedible. No offer of replacement. Left hungry. Won't return, poor quality food and equally poor service.

I’m a local dog walker and use Ashtead cafe regularly, always find customer service is 10/10.. thoroughly enjoy a fry up and absolutely love their smoothies! It’s recently undergone a refurb and it looks amazing double the size and very Morden!

Hidden in Great Bookham is a charming, warm and quality focused Tea/ Coffee / brunch / lunch / cake … place, that has got the balance perfect. Service, quality , Ambiance and price meet in, what I can only call: perfection. We had brunch, lunch and afternoon tea here and have never been disappointed. The little garden behind the building is a tiny oasis if you want to sit outside.
