I ordered a small cod and chips. I had a few mouthfuls. The chips tasted like powder which is a sure indication of cooking and reheating. The fish was tasteless. More batter than fish. I feel so sick. I'm wrenching and have stomach cramps. This is not the first ive experienced this from this Eatery. I thought after a few years of not going there things would have improved but disappointingly it hasn't.

As an ex-Lewesian, I used to buy fish and chips here on a regular basis as it was, in my opinion, the best fish and chip bar in the town. As we were visiting friends yesterday, we decided to treat ourselves to tea and once parked, went to purchase some food. There was a small crowd of people patiently waiting for their food outside then shop so we went inside to place our order of Cod and Chips for me and Fishcake and Chips for my wife. The total cost was £15.60 which I thought was a little on the high side but for the anticipated quality of the food, I was willing to go with. After a 10 minute wait, our order number was called and we collected our food and made our way home to eat. Once home, we unwrapped the food which had remained hot for the 15 minute drive and the majority of the chips fell out of the paper onto my plate along with the fish. However, my euphoria was somewhat dampened when I ate the first chip; it was undercooked and still tasted a little raw! I cut into the batter on the cod which was quite hard and instead of their being succulent flakes of cod to greet me, the fish was dry and bland. My wife's chips were also undercooked although her fishcake was ok. All in all, we were both left with an enormous sense of disappointment and based upon this experience, will not be making any further trips to buy food from this establishment in the foreseeable future which is a shame because it has always been a firm favourite of mine.

Fish and chips nice for walk home. They kept missing me for larger orders as it was busy and I a solo eater, had to remind a few times, lady on till apologetic and nice though. Hit the spot when did come though

The food is ok, depending on what day of the week you go. The staff are organised & polite but not at all friendly. It looks clean. The wait was not long and they were busy as it was early sat evening. We had a 10 min walk home, everything was a bit limp. Good pie, even though they had run out of steak n kidney. Good mushy peas and curry sauce. Ok prices, £20 fed 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We have been before and the food was a lot better but that was a week day.🙂

I've only recently moved to lewes but I'm very very happy when I first went to this chip shop couple of times every time I went to get my dinner I had exceptional service from Laura she went out of her way to bring my change that another boy on the till had forgotten she is very honest and very good at her job I will now be a regular thanks to laura

As a resident of Lewes, and a big fan of Fish and Chips, I was delighted by my experience at the South Street Fish Bar, which is the undisputed number one Fish bar in Lewes. Laura was super helpful in getting my order sorted and managed the busy Friday night queue with style. 10/10. If you're not getting your chippy tea from the South Street Fish Bar, you're not doing it right.

We COD ahead to plaice our order and was greeted pleasantly by Laura who not only took our order but was very friendly. We agreed that we would perform a dance on arrival... As we arrived, the music started and the dance was performed..... Laura lit up as she'd had a rubbish day and now she's on cloud 9!! Food was ready and the atmosphere was refreshed. Great experience!!

We heard of the legendary service and quality of the fish and chips here and managed to finally order most of the fares on offer. So glad we dropped by as Laura and the team served us sensational fish and chips. My steak and kidney with mushy peas were just how they should be - delicious and heavenly. Our go to chippie from now on!

We visited at around 8.45pm and the fish bar was cooking to order, which was fair enough. There were lots of staff working. We counted six. They were friendly and polite. I was really disappointed though that both my cod and chips were undercooked. Both could have done with longer in the fryer at a time when they were not busy. It's a shame because I've had really good chips from them before.

Nice staff, didn't wait long. Lovely chips, nice big portion, a bonus point for having pickled onion vinegar in a squeezy on the counter. Curry sauce was just right - not too globby or over-watery. Spring roll nice and crispy but not hot enough inside - otherwise would have been 5 stars.

Came here to get dinner one night whilst staying in the area for work. The cod and chips with mushy peas was excellent, all well cooked. The staff were friendly and polite and the service was excellent.

I do not normally write reviews but i have been saying for a year now that i must write this Chip shop a glowing review, and here it is. I have like everyone else gone to a chippy and had a mixture of differently cooked chips everytime I visit, they are either okay, soggy or over cooked. But since i moved to Uckfield me and my partner found this little gem of a chippy tucked away at the back of Lewes one night. Ever since visiting i make sure we only get our fish and chips from this store we always make the special journey to use them. The food is consistently perfectly cooked and we have never had an over/undercooked chip or any other food from there. I literally can't believe how consistent it is i always pause at the start of the meal and say "I must write a review" To add the staff are always friendly quick and always smiling and i have never had a bad experience. I really cannot fault them. Thank you for the great food.

It is over 10 years since we visited this Fish & Chip shop. It was taken over about six years ago by Laotian owners. They were due to open at 11.30 today, but kindly saw me waiting outside and let me in 10 minutes early. They were very pleasant , friendly and helpful. I ordered two medium cod (£4.90 each) and one large portion of chips (£2.95), so the cost was slightly cheaper that average for the UK. I was told it would take just over 6 minutes to cook. Their estimate was accurate. The cod was excellent...beautiful flaky white fish with a good portion size, and the quantity of chips was enormous, but although chunky and looked lovely, they were slightly dry in texture. My wife had fancied this traditional British meal to celebrate her 80th.birthday, since we had to cancel a family meal at an Italian restaurant due to coronavirus. I served it with a "home made" Tartare Sauce...delicious. Parking is limited near this Fish & Chip shop (80p per hour) as all streets now have double yellow lines.

Not sure they understand allergy problems, list on the wall though staff do not understand it. My partner came down with an allergy related illness after consuming fish and chips, they taste wonderful but be aware if you're an allergy sufferer.

Very disappointed tonight The fish and chips were Luke warm, chips were anaemic and clumping together and was order was messed up. I did get a refund so customer service was good but quality was not there tonight.

Every Friday evening we treat our selves to South Street Fish & Chips. We order cod and chips and chicken wing and chips and some times a giant spring roll too. They are always delicious, crispy and freshly cooked, not oily at all.

Having tried this Fish & Chip shop twice in the last few weeks, I can say they are first class. The chips always seem to be freshly cooked too and their is no back taste from old oil so the cooking oil is changed regularly I guess. Good Fish and Chip shops are hard to find so 11/10 and many thanks.

Very clean compared to other chippies in the area, their food is also superior to the others. I would recommend this chip shop to anyone who visits for the day, the only con is that it's take away only. Sometimes they can forget items from your order so just double check before you leave.

The Place for Fish and Chips in Lewes.

This take away has friendly staff. I had a generous portion of chips and a sausage in batter for just £2.85. The chips could have been a bit crisper but the sausage was tasty.

Pretty much everything is cooked fresh to order. Good choice of fish, sausages and side dishes. Some veggie options too. I absolutely adore the scampi here and they do awesome spring rolls. The fact they are always very busy says everything

Phoned to ask if the burgers came with salad etc, told yes. Order food and arrive home to eat and I have a piece of chicken in a bun... no salad or sauce. Really disappointed.

I can honestly say this Southstreet do the best fish and chips ever. My favourite place to get them from. Fresh fish, lovely fluffy chips and good service.
