Source The Deli in York

I often feel I don't want to eat vegetarian whilst out with my daughter , so Source offered great options for Vegan/Vegetarian food alongside slow cooked meats - win win. Staff managed to find us a table after a short wait on busy Saturday lunch. My daughter had excellent Mock Camembert, which we all decided was excellent, while I had fish tacos. Main dishes were their trays served with greens and corn bread - my daughter had Seitan, my wife pulled chicken and I had slow cooked beef brisket, all of which were excellent! We will be returning and soon!

Had philly cheese and chicken and prosciutto sandwiches. Really nice 10/10 would eat again!!! Menu choices all sounded fantastic

My friend and I popped in for a coffee but enjoyed a lovely vegan 'sausage and egg' sandwich which we both thoroughly enjoyed. A few coffees later we were still sat there relaxing and watching the world go by. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Looking forward to going back.

Went here on day they released their breakfast menu and was super impressed, my friend and I shared the vegan sausage and egg muffin (the sausage was one of best veggie substitutes around) and the eggs florentine (also top notch and a great sized portion). Photo shows my plate with half of each Staff were awesome and coffee great too

When we started looking for somewhere for lunch my girlfriend was quite specific - she wanted a good sandwich with 'proper' bread. We found it here. Lovely place to eat lunch and watch the world go by, freshly made and very tasty sandwiches - and definitely with 'proper' bread. The staff were friendly and the service was speedy. We were both pleased we chanced upon Source The Deli.

Visiting York for the day, happened across this lovely place for lunch. Great service and food, reasonably priced and very tasty, would definitely come again!

Having eaten the night before at the otherSource we kind of stumbled upon the Deli. Loved the fresh food fantastic vegan choice and friendly staff. Couldn't find a fault. Brilliant.

The vegan food here was amazing. The seitan ribs and fried chicken were simply delicious, with generous portions of both dishes. Friendly staff and a simple stylish dining experience. Would defo go here again the next time I’m in York 👍

Went in for a nice family lunch. We all ordered our sandwiches which were lovely and filled very generously. However the crust of the bread was very hard to chew and was slightly stale. One of us asked to have our sandwiches remade as it was not what we had expected and one of the girls with short blonde hair was rather unpleasant about the situation which did not have to be an issue. She spent the entire time doing odd looks to us and then to her co workers which made the environment for us very uncomfortable. Why can’t customers be honest without being made out to be fussy and treated very off handed. There was another girl with dark curly hair staring at us the whole time instead of actually doing any kind of work. We just found the atmosphere of the staff very bad and very uncomfortable and for that reason would not come back because they were not welcoming at all. They could do with smiling more. Came to Source Deli a couple of weeks ago and the had a lovely time. The owner was there and he was so friendly and thats why i brought my family there for a lunch. Anyways just want your staff to be aware of their customer service.

I’ll be back here time and again after today. We just popped in for an ice-cream and the salted caramel variety was divine. I had a nosey at the cakes too which looked amazing and beside me sat someone who was sipping away at a great looking coffee. The atmosphere is relaxed due to the friendly staff and there’s great window seats to watch interesting passers by. Enjoy!

Popped in as I saw an ice cream counter marked ‘vegan’ so I couldn’t resist!! I had three scoops of Northern Bloc ice cream and was yummy!! I had the choc orange, peanut butter and hazelnut. Although I didn’t get food, the deli was full, which is always a good sign and all the food being served looked lovely. Healthy and delicious looking Sandwiches, salads and cakes galore!

After looking for somewhere to have a quick brunch before heading back home we spotted this place, it looked a bit more friendly and local than the usual pretentiousness of somewhere like Pret. The staff were really friendly and I liked the choice of bread on offer, opting for the Philly steak on sourdough (no idea what my partner had, something with chicken which was delicious). The sandwiches were huge and tasted brilliant! Everything was fresh and prepared quickly and it was quite nice to do a bit of people watching whilst eating. Quick note, maybe use some opaque window film below the window bar? It was only as a second thought as we left that everyone could, potentially see up my shorts (I noticed a few funny looks) would hate to scare any potential customers away!

Called in whilst meandering around York, and so glad we found this little gem. The vegan, gluten free range was excellent to see, and was very much enjoyed by my children, who can be very fussy eaters at times. I went for one of their phillybeef sandwiches, it was a generous portion, enough for the hungriest of appetites. Friendly and welcoming staff.

Went to this cafe and had an excellent sandwich. The staff were sweet and professional, played brilliant music and ended up offering me some of the leftover cake before they closed the cafe down. Only thing that could make the place better would be a leather sofa! Cheers!

We happened upon this wonderful Resturant after seeing Shakespeare’s 12th night at the Rose Theater. We each had a vegan dish, seitan bbq “ribs” and jackfruit shredded with yummy sauce. Each did was accompanied by a fresh coleslaw and skin on potatoes. We also had the cauliflower starter and the grilled avocado . All delicious and so satisfying we couldn’t finish. Great price, service and food!

I had an appointment in York that I was early for so I thought I’d kill a bit of time having a coffee. It was about 09:50, the signage in the window said open from 9am for breakfast, a guy was stood in the doorway so I stood to the side to allow him to come out but he indicated he was closing the door behind him so I said ‘oh, are you not open yet’. He shouted to the lady behind the counter who shouted back ‘5 minutes’. The guy then turned to me and said ‘you might as well go and buy some handbags or whatever you women do and come back in a bit’. Happy to support local (when you’re open!) but don’t need to subjected to your dinosaur opinions

Having trekked around York, I came across this excellent lunch venue. I have special dietary needs and managed to find something on their sandwich menu which suited. When my sandwich arrived, I was surprised at the amount of filling in it - it was very generous. In fact, by the time I had managed to finish it, my jaws were aching. A great cup of decaff coffee too.

Popped in for lunch as we were passing on the rainy bank holiday Monday. What a great discovery! Love the relaxed seating around the counter - you can see your food being made and get to chat to the friendly and enthusiastic staff at the same time. I’m not usually a big fan of sandwiches, but these are honestly unbelievable. So fresh and tasty. I was just sad that I was way too full to try anything else, as the cakes looked amazing. We will definitely be back!

Popped in for lunch and was not disappointed. Coming from a small town with very little vegan options at restaurants/cafes, I was amazed at how spoilt for choice I was here for vegan options! The thought of having a vegan meatball sandwich was so exciting and I was not let down. Lovely food and lovely staff, will definitely be returning :-)

Nipped in on my way past for a take away coffee this morning which was really good and also in a biodegradable cup too which is rarity. Chatted to the very friendly owner while it was being made and had a nosey at the menu which looked so good, I went back in an hour later for a couple of sandwiches!

Fantastic choice of fresh sandwiches on a choice of bread. I ordered one sandwich and could only eat half. The steak was so thick and tasty. Friendly staff a little expensive.

I visited here with a group of friends on our lunch break after hearing great things about it, especially how well they cater for individual dietary requirements. Amongst us there was one person who is Gluten free and myself who is dairy free, but not vegan.

I came here with a friend for a quick bite to eat; we went for the ham and turkey quinoa salads. The food was super fresh and tasty and the waitresses were lovely. Super speedy service too! Would recommend, albeit it is very expensive (£8 per salad).

Stumbled on this deli whilst in York for 2 days, lovely to have so many tasty vegetarian options for me and yet equally mouthwatering options for my meat eating husband. Made fresh to order a very satisfying lunch so good we came back the next day for more.

Absolutely love Source Deli. Really great good, lots of vegan and veggie options, and always get service.

What an amazing choice of vegan food! The coffee was delicious, with 4 dairy free milk choices. The sandwiches were freshly made to order and although we never tried them they looked delicious. The vegan chocolate and raspberry cake was the best I've ever tasted. Everything was spotlessly clean. A great find, we will definitely be back for more on our next trip to York.

By far the best sandwiches in York!, so many different ones to chose from, it was hard to pick just one! Finally went for the New (Yorker), you must try it. Excellent customers service, super friendly

Can’t say enough about how great this place is - staff are excellent, happy to chat and very helpful about the town. The food - OMG it was amazing. Can highly recommend coconut milk hot chocolate (chocolate spoon that you stir in - yummy!) and then they made a beautiful beets, spinach and goats cheese salad - all fresh and prepared in front of you. Excellent vegan/vego options and gluten free

I’d been meaning to try this place for ages and finally go round to it and ordered the vegan chicken sandwich. Lord above it was excellent! I’ve recently gone veggie and if this is how good it can get then I don’t ever want to turn back! The deli has a super cool vibe as well and the guy who runs it is lovely and has strong chat! 10/10 would recommend this place to a friend!

Amazingly delicious fresh vegan food served here!! Big sandwiches full of vegan ‘meats’, salad & sauce and mouthwatering cakes! Highly recommend!

This place is great for all, however, it is amazing for people who prefer a plant based diet. The vegan chicken sandwich, the vegan rib sandwich, and vegan BLT are great. Seating is limited, but it's close to lots of pockets with outdoor seating. Like the market right around the corner with lots of picnic tables and space heaters. This is such a reliable place to enjoy food.

As an American living in York, I am frequently underwhelmed by the volume and tastiness of sandwich ingredients at cafes. I took a shot in the dark and ordered an italian sandwich from Source the Deli via Deliveroo today and WOW!!!!!! Everything from the bread to the meats, cheeses and mayonaise was well proportioned and clearly made with love / passion for food. My juices were also made with expertise and tasted absolutely delicious - flavours all very well balanced and totally worth the money for great raw ingredients. Many thanks to whoever made me these masterpiece lunchtime treats - you've saved the work day! :)

When eating out, I always look for small,independant local business to support.

After being such a big fan of SOURCE restaurant we decided to give the deli a try for lunch- and we weren't disappointed!!

Wow - what a find. I have been a few times to this new place next to York market - they have the best sandwiches in York by a long way and is similar to what I have had in high end New York and London delis. Each sandwich is freshly made to order with freshly sliced ingredients and with fresh baked bread.

We could not agree where to eat or more precisely my teenage son turned his nose up at all of our suggestions, he mentioned seeing a Deli at the market so we had a look, due to someone insisting they did not need a jacket we needed to eat inside and there are only a couple of seats but we had a look at the menu everyone spotted something they liked the look of, and the seats were free

We love the restaurant, stands to reason we’d try their deli! If you’re looking for a sandwich, like, a REAL sandwich. This is the place! I’ve tasted nothing like the Dagwood (pictured) since the last time I visited the U.S! It turns out that this was my last meat-filled meal and I can’t wait to try the Vegan one’s now too!

My boyfriend and I had the vfc sandwich on toasted panini and it was honestly the nicest sandwich I’ve ever had! Great range of vegan options, including some delicious vegan cakes. Really lovely and helpful staff, will definitely be back!

We love the original Source restaurant so once The Deli opened we were eager to try it. Even more so when she saw that half the menu is vegetarian or vegan! As veggies we do get bored of the usual run of the mill sandwiches, so anything slightly different grabs or attention. Like the main restaurant the Deli didn’t disappoint. Beautiful, clean building at the entrance to the market. Lots of cakes, quiches, salads and bread to look at and choose from. We decided to try the Vegan Chicken sandwich and the BBQ Vegan Ribs sandwich. You can choose which bread you’d like so we went for toasted ciabatta. After a 10 min wait we got our sandwiches and OMG they were huge!! Great value at around £5.95 each. The sauces used were so flavourful but not over powering, and the ‘meat’ was nice and hot. All wrapped in a paper bag so no plastic - bonus! We treated ourselves to a vegan chocolate and raspberry brownie that you honestly wouldn’t be able to tell apart from a non-vegan brownie. It was big and so so moist.

Visited York today and while walking through the Shambles market noticed the Source - deli

Absolutely stunning range of dishes, went with two vegan friends visiting the city and I’d already heard such good reviews of the place! Scrumptious food thank you, and cake I wouldn’t have known was vegan!

Came across this little gem of a place on our visit to York and was very impressed. Ordered the chicken,mozzarella and prosciutto on white bloomer and my what a sandwich it was. Delicious and followed later on in the day with dinner at their restaurant.

Big fan of the restaurant, so decided to try the new deli out and was totally amazing, vegan fried chicken pannis with the most refreshing smoothie known to earth. Will be visiting regularly to make my way through the menu 10/10

Newly opened sandwich shop/ deli,seems to have a great selection of sandwiches and vegan sweet treats. Had Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich that was easily on par with one I had in new york previously. Ace, will be back.
