CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH..steakroastcookedpie

comment_iconOpinions

Although it appears somewhat dilapidated from the outside, there were several cars parked outside, leading us to believe it might be nice. We couldn't really object because it was booked by a family member. Since neither my partner nor I eat meat, the menu only offered standard pub fare and had very few options for us. He had a vegetable curry, and I had a nut roast. He cannot have gluten, thus it was the only option that was safe. I could only think, "Wow what the chuff is this slop," when the food first arrived. My nut roast clearly consisted of frozen mashed vegetables, a packet of peanuts, and a side of more frozen veg and gravy that most definitely wasn’t vegan. My other half’s curry was basically the same as mine but with some curry powder. We couldn’t eat it at all and at £14 pounds each it was truly diabolical and what I saw from the other members of the party I’d have gone and caused a scene but I just wanted to leave and never return. The service is basic and the toilets filthy.

Been here quite alot and food pretty good. Went new years for a meal. Firstly this is a lovely pub and staff great. Prices gone up again so expect to pay £14 for burger and chips so rather pricey considering it was disappointing. My partner had this dish in the summer and it looked and tasted great, so i ordered this time. burger was only small but was lovely and meaty . The roll was cheap but the homemade chips great. That was it as no salad just a poor bit in the burger rather rubbish for £14. Upside everyone else loved the cod and chips. Looking at other dishes coming out they looked nice. I will go back again but not for the burger be better off at greene king pub .

We visited as a family group of five. The pub was busy and we ordered our food with one gluten free option for a family member who has a serious medical condition. This was explained to staff clearly and a number of times. When our food arrived it was not the best we have had to be honest. The gluten free fish and chips arrived and we asked again if it was gluten free! It was not! They took it back leaving one member of our party without their meal. To be fair they reduced the bill but one member of our group was left without food. We had all finished before her food arrived. Doubt if we will return. Serving non gluten food to a celiac would have been a disaster for us and also this pub.

Having read good reviews decided to try dinner in the late afternoon. Ordered from the specials menu on the board. Firstly it was nice to be told that what we were ordering was available (amazing how many places have no availability when you order). Our meals were excellant hot as ordered & in a timely manner. The barmaid told us to take a seat & told us she would open a tab. A very friendly pub with outside seating or indoors would visit again if in the area.

We enjoyed dinner with friends in the relaxing & homely atmosphere of The Sorrell Horse one evening last week. This not an eating house like so many pubs, but a pub that does food and very good food it is too. All four of us had different menu choices and all were delicious (the best steak I have had in a long time). A good mix of diners and regulars at the bar helped provide a convivial and welcoming atmosphere. Will go again.

We went with 9 family members for our sons 22nd birthday after already celebrating my dad’s 70th 2 weeks prior, but were really disappointed with the food. We are all fans of the steak and ale pudding that usually comes with mash but on this occasion came with roast potatoes that tasted like they had been re heated and very oily.. and as normal we take a cake with candles to finish the celebration, the cakes came out NO candles that we had supplied, to someone saying sorry it’s been longer than 10 minutes with no clue as to what the reason was why she was bringing them to us, spoiling the moment. We not only use this pub for birthdays but do eat there on many occasions with no issues before. Normally I wouldn’t complain but when you pick somewhere that normally has a very good service to not so good it needs a mention. Especially when it was not busy on the restaurant side of things.
