Fantastic Indian restaurant, a must visit if you are in the area. The food was delicious, hot and tasty,plenty of it. If you don't manage to eat it all you can take it home. Good menu choice. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Good atmosphere in the restaurant. Visited with friends and as always a good night . They do a takeaway service as well.

Went over the weekend with friends. Warm welcome on arrival. Was busy when we arrived in the front area of restaurant so went into the rear restaurant area, nice atmosphere and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had poppadoms and pickle tray to start and then main courses, rice and side dishes, food was tasty and hot. Nice evening. Well worth visiting.

We had a takeaway meal last night and 3 of of 4 in our family who ate different meals have been sick throughout the night and today. Did you get any other reports sent to you of people being sick ?

I thought ide try this indian having tried the other one in town which tbh wasn't great at all.Only to find this one was the same or worse it was edible but very poor,if you you know curry's and flavours you will know this is not up to much,,they seem to be getting away with it as there is know completion,if you like curry's I recommend going to Leeds,having one in the center, then you will see the difference.

Nice restaurant, great staff not too bad atmosphere, food good quick and well made. Good mixture including vegetarian. Not a bad price compared to other places nearby. Would come again worth the try

Visited with my significant other for a quick supper. We had 2 glasses of wine/ 2 ciders and shared a starter and one main dish with a side of Nan bread (plain) and rice (plain).. our bill was £62!!! Service rushed/ rude and not very friendly: save your cash and go anywhere else. Food was also horrendous. We’ll be lucky to escape without food poisoning. Spoke to the Manager.. he couldn’t care less.

Really flavourful curries with great sides and service. Always go for the biriyani and it never disappoints. Nothing is ever too much trouble and its always a favourite to come for date night

Went today Friday 30th December,we went at 5pm on the off chance they could fit us in,us being a family of five . They were excellent and promptly got us seated and served. The staff are fantastic great banter with them. Will definitely return and not leave it so long next time. The food was excellent we all enjoyed our starters and main.

Food was good and staff attentive, but it was so cold in the restaurant that I shivered all the way through my meal, so it really spoiled my evening, and I couldn’t wait to get back to my car to get the heater on. The radiators were only luke warm and it was sun-zero outside. I presume they were trying to keep costs down, it wasn’t the first time I have felt cold in there. I will go again….but I will wait til summer.

Number one Indian in Pocklington. We only ever use Somali, great tasting food, great service by all staff and always make sure you’re always satisfied. They also have gluten and dairy free dishes and alternatives. Would highly recommend and stays number one on our list!

Given the opportunity to have an Indian again and havjngnn never been here but heard only good things we thought why not. Struck striaght away but how clean and tidy it is and how the tables have nice space around them. All the staff were so friendly, and not in a false way, they clearly seem to enjoy and take pride in their job. We had the usual with the pickle tray and a n appetizer...really we didn't need both we ended up quite full!! My wife ordered korma, which to be fair normally is a burning choice but to be honest it was bang on! We really couldn't fault any of it, we will look to have the time to come more often. It's certainly the best place in bevrley.

We went here one evening while we were camping locally and there was heavy rain. Firstly, you need to look for this place if it's your visit, as it it is tucked out of the way a bit.

On our previous Pocklington visits we have always satiated our Indian food withdrawal symptoms by a visit to the Bengal Lounge but having had the Sonali recommended we took a chance and thank goodness we did.

Visited twice whilst staying in the village for a week on holiday. Its early (ie 5pm) opening, modest-priced & tasty menu suited the two of us well. We could not have been made more welcome, were served promptly and had no problems getting a “doggy bag" for the food we weren’t able to eat at the table. There's a great black & white late 19th century photo of the main street - a good talking point with the local couple - also very friendly - eating at the adjacent table.

We had a beef lankini and a chicken korma - both very good. Friendly staff and reasonably priced. Would visit again when we are next in the area.

Hidden away in the centre of pocklington is a great Indian restaurant, only a small place but excellent service and the food was so tasty, would highly recommend trying sonali, we’ve had a take away and now also eaten in, both times we were very impressed, New favourite Indian

Our first visit here two years ago was excellent. We were impressed (2 years ago). Since then we've had just about every conceivable dining experience here. Great sit down food. Bad sit down food. Great takeaways and terrible takeaways. It's a completely random experience.

Spent nearly 30 pounds, on food that was tasteless.and the chicken was just thrown into the curry and was hard. No taste to the lemon rice just an awful meal.. won’t be going back there again. I could have done a better job myself have been cooking Indian food from scratch for 30 years. Shame as the resteraunt was lovely and a friendly bloke who served us.

A Last minute Saturday night eat out was here, and the food was very nice. It was very busy ( we ate earlyish and hadn't booked) but the staff worked hard to ensure everyone got seated and served. My only criticism was it was a bit chilly where we sat but it didnt spoil the evening.

A lovely catch up with friends was ruined by the managers outburst over something which should definitely have never been mentioned to us never mind involve us, totally unprofessional and lacking in respect for the customer. An issue that should be dealt with behind the scenes with his staff and their policies - he brought into the restaurant with no apology, in-fact seemed to love being confrontational over what was a small issue which could easily have been resolved with a chat and a quiet apology/explanation to us the customer. Will not go near this restaurant again sadly.

I had a minor issue which I politely took up with the manager, in private, in the bar area. He got VERY aggressive and walked to our table to have a very public confrontation! I could not believe it! This was over a very minor issue which he completely blew out of all proportion. I will NEVER go back to the restaurant again and suggest you don't either! There are better and more friendly curry houses in Pocklington!

after reading some reviews we decide to give this restaurant another try , we booked for a Saturday night when we arrived we were told the table was not ready and seated in the bar area and promptly ignored ! we had go to the bar to get our own drinks while the staff chatted to each other .

We’ve been to going to his restaurant for many years, and both the food and service is always impeccable. My wife has a nut allergy, and the chef is always very careful. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant, best to book a table!

So we booked a table at Sonali, having been there before, We arrived late but were found a table straight away, even though the restaurant was busy. The meal was excellent, served by very friendly staff. The atmosphere was fantastic. This was probably the best Indian meal I have ever had. This restaurant is well worth visiting, I highly recommend It. We will make it our first choice of restaurant, next time we visit.

Visited mid week with a friend.Have been many times to Sonali and is always good. Afew people in and nice atmosphere. Made very welcome and offered a choice of new soft drinks range which my friend had which were nice. Meal was very tasty and enjoyable and good valve for money. Service was excellent. If you are in Pocklington or the area I would highly recommend you visit

We have never actually eaten in the restaurant but it is always busy so that speaks for itself. However as a family and with friends we have been taking carry out from Somali for many years. It passes my partners Biryani test every year . Give it a try.

We have visited Sonali as a large family group many times. We have never been disappointed. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always a great service! The food is consistently delicious and at a reasonable price. Located right in the centre of Pocklington it is a great restaurant.

Pleasant and comfortable surroundings, friendly staff, and a tempting menu. We had the privilege of dining twice at Sonali and were impressed at the quality of the food. This is way above average for Asian cuisine, and we only wish that it was nearer to where we live. The only improvement we could suggest is if use was made of the terrace outside in the garden for dining outdoors in good weather. We will be back.

We use this restaurant regularly the food is very good and service is generally quick, normally come midweek so never too busy.

Such a variety to chose from and our party of 6 almost all chose a different meal - there was oohing and aahing and " let me have a taste of yours" across the table, with a conflict of loving your plate of food vs food envy from what someone else had ordered. The children loved it too and the portions are a great size! It was our first visit, but we'll definitely be back - next time, we'll order a variety again, but this time, share it between us!!

We went to this restaurant as a 10, friends night out. Firstly the order came wrong and the food was wrong .. the memeber of staff was extremely rude. It then came to this bill and he was so rude as we wanted to pay separate, in any other restaurant this is not a problem. One member of staff was very rude, the others very apologetic, I feel sorry for the people working with him, when we asked if he was the manager he said he only worked there 3 days a week, worst experience in this restaurant. Avoid.

Absolutely disgusted with the treatment my wife and I have received from this restaurant. Arrived at opening time and were served by a very rude person who when challenged on his rudeness argued with us. When bringing out our meals this same man scraped a piece of food off one of the plates with his finger, claiming it was a bit of coriander. My wife asked him for a clean plate which he was reluctantant to bring but did so, his attitude was appalling. Later we told another staff member about the poor service, this man asked the waiter back out to speak to us and to cut a long story short he blatantly lied about what he had done, saying we were making things up, and implying that my wife was drunk when this was not the case and is absolutely unacceptable in my view. The sheer brass neck of the guy! The other man was acting like a bouncer, didn't give us any support and just told us to leave without paying, as if this solved what had happened. Never been treated with such contept by a so called professional establishment, I still cannot believe how cocky the waiter was and how easily he lied.

First time visit to Sonali - decor is a little tired but food more than made up for it. Good service throughout, Kingfisher served lovely and cold, starters and mains hot and spicy!! A good choice - the chicken chaat is a favourite and was excellent. The mains were also served with plenty of sauce which is not always the case.....nice to dip the roti or naan bread! This is a little hidden gem - will be back again soon.

I regularly get takeaways from this restaurant, the food is lovely, staff are great and I would highly recommend, I wouldn't go anywhere else for an Indian takeaway.

Decent enough curry but nothing special. They have all the usuals on offer and service was pretty good but a little on the pricey side. If you've been out for a few beers with mates and want a curry then this place will be fine but look elsewhere if you're looking for to take a special someone out for a treat.

We arrived quite late....9.30pm, but received a warm welcome, and were quickly seated.We ordered, and selected a King Cobra...75cl...and stronger than the Saul Cobra. It was very refreshing, and we soon demolished the full bottle as we enjoyed the papadoms & pickles.Another bottle arrived just as rhe main courses arrived. Nan was as good as any I have ever had. Both mains were very good portions, and extremely tasty.Staff were attentive & friendly.Good place to visit again.

What a wonderful restaurant, right in the heart of Pocklington. If you're having trouble finding it, then turn right in front of the Feathers Hotel and you're there. A truly great menu, original dishes and sub Indian continent classics too. The staff are fantastic - Piers, Billy and AK to name but a few, they are friendly and engaging and very knowledgeable about the food and what goes with what. As if this is not enough, the prices are very generous and very affordable. Simply loved every aspect of it - well done guys.

Came here with my husband when staying in Pocklington without booking on a Monday night. We were only people in but it was only 6pm. Couldn't believe how busy it got. Staff were lovely, friendly and very polite. Food was amazing, lots of it and great quality. We had popadoms & dips, starters, mains with rice, naan, wine and coffee. Couldn't believe it when the bill came in at under £50. At home we pay more than this on a specials night! The restaurant was lovely and clean with a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again when we come back in October

Had an average meal on a Saturday night. Asked for the bill 3 times.After no response - I went to the bar and asked for the bill.The manager accused me of "wagging my finger at him" and after a huge row in front of 25+ people he gave us the bill.We paid. We did not include a tip!!

Coming from Leicester where we have so many excellent Indian restaurants, we are always interested to try such restaurants in other places and to compare the food. We have eaten here twice now and the food has been first class both times. It is just a shame that the waiters are not more welcoming both in their telephone manner and in person. Can someone tell them a smile or two would make all the difference?

Called in without reservation early one weekend evening and seated in area to rear. As first guests that evening room was chilly and electric fire not contributing much heat. Food and service however was fine.
