Had a very enjoyable stay in this hotel for three nights. I appreciated the large Victorian style. A large bathroom and a just big enough bedroom. Bathroom had a door stop to stub your toe on right in front of the towel rail, not so clever. Wonderful views out over the water to Wales. English breakfast was excellent, even outstanding though their interpretation of Continental breakfast seemed to lack any cheese ham or roles. Dinner was excellent. I would have given five stars but I have to take one off as the bar areas were very gloomy grey. The menu had no pudding based on apple. Somerset one of the great apple areas of the UK with all the scores of traditional and modern apple puddings available and none available here, in the autumn apple season.

We had our wedding here on Friday 12th and all the staff were lovely and so helpful. From first contact Kat who helped us plan from the beginning, all the way through to our Master of ceremonies Dennis ( AKA Fred) who is the loveliest most helpful and professional man, he made our whole day run smoothly and nothing was too much trouble for him. I recommend this venue so highly for anyone booking a special function, you will be delighted as we were with your choice!!

Although part of a hotel, the bar is nonetheless open to non-residents and has it’s own branding and entrance at the opposite end of the building from the main hotel entrance. Calling it a Terrace Bar suggests, to me at least, that there would be some sort of outside seating at the rear, but unfortunately this was not the case, or at least, nothing that was directly accessible from the bar. The main bar room is at the rear of the building and the large bay windows give great views across the estuary to Wales. The room itself is a good size with high ceilings, but is rather drab in appearance, with pretty much everything apart from the wooden boards on the floor and a couple of old brown leather sofas being a shade of grey. There was light grey paint on the walls, darker grey paint on the timberwork, a grey bar counter, grey chairs and even grey lamp shades. The only minimal splashes of colour were a couple of troughs of foliage and a small green glass candle holder on each table. There was really very little of any note, with not even a picture on the wall to brighten it up a little. A smaller room at the front looked to be broadly similar in terms of décor, although this also included a fireplace with a TV screen mounted above it. Whilst there is a small wooden veranda and a beer garden, neither was directly accessible from the bar. You’d either have to navigate your way to the other end of the hotel (although I’m not even sure this would be possible, as the veranda looked to be only accessible via a closed off function room) or else go out the front of the bar, walk all along the pavement to the other end of the building, round the back and down a slope to get to it. Despite two pumps on the bar, the only real ale offering was Doom Bar, along with Sharp’s Atlantic on keg. Why on earth not showcase some of the excellent local brews to their out of town guests, such as something from the Clevedon Town Brewery just up the road, for example, rather than a boring national brand that you can probably buy in half the pubs in the country? Even worse, the solitary cider was Aspall’s Suffolk. Again, Somerset is the home of cider and yet they choose to stock something that is both pretty dire and from the other side of the country. Even something from Thatcher’s would be local, even if not very imaginative. Or Ganley & Naish just a few miles away in Kenn perhaps. Gin fared little better being served in a wine glass, and the barmaid’s offer of “Is Gordon’s ok?” could have been more helpfully phrased. From a quick glance it appeared that was all that they had, and her question certainly implied that, whereas we later spotted a selection from Whitley Neill. Perhaps something along the lines of “Which gin would you like?” would have been better. All in all, I can see little reason to visit here. A more accessible outside area might have gained it a few points for the view, but without that I really can’t think why I might return.

Well, a great location, menu looked good, great start. We ordered our food expecting quite a lot actually as the prices were not cheap. That's where it all went wrong, a sourdough stack was not quite a stack, but, a single piece of sourdough bread with cheese ham and avocado on top. A very dry beef and mustard sandwich and a bowl of Gnocchi which was just cheesy soup was appalling Staff were slow to clear plates, no one asked if food was ok. I definitely will not be visiting again.

First visit to the restaurant and will not be my last. Need gluten and dairy free; no problem. Was able to get a simple prawn and avocado salad without dressing, uncoated and very delicious chunky chips. Everything on the menu described in detail. It is what I have been hoping for in a long time and not rocket science to offer good basic food as well as more complicated dishes. Service excellent and views amazing. Tables a decent space apart. Looking forward to my next visit.

The menu was lacklustre and limited in choice. Maybe I had not understood it was a themed 70's night? Who still serves melon as a starter? The bread rolls were stale, poor quality and cold. No amount of butter could redeem them. The mushroom risotto had a good taste but who wants to eat a whole plate of starch? The vegetables were routine. There was also cod, lamb, sausage, beef goulash. All the desserts were not homemade; my throwback treacle tart had been blasted in the microwave only to be served with a milky cream. The table white was vinegar. It felt like this restaurant was used to catering for the elderly- no fancy sauces, give them what they ate forty odd years ago and don't forget the tablecloth! This restaurant is not for people with sophisticated palettes, sorry....but I felt insulted.

We had a two night stay at the end of January 2018. we upgraded to a bedroom overlooking the Sea. Very comfortable with a lovely King Size bed. Very clean and tidy. The staff in the Hotel were very pleasant and helpful. We ate ij the bar and enjoyed a very good meal. Good service and quick. The buffet breakfast was first class. I love my breakfasts when I am away for a few days and this Hotel ranks very highly. Good choice. Could not fault the breakfast and service. Some reviews comment on the Hotel been a little tired. A couple of the stairway carpets were a little worn but I was not there to enjoy the carpets! Probably agree with the tired comments but it also added to the Character of this "Old Hotel" . Big car park. The Hotel is situated overlooking the Sea and is a 10 minute walk into the top end of the town. For a few days it was very enjoyable.

I stay in many hotels with my job - so a night away - not far from home in Bristol was an exciting thought- but when we checked in - no upgrade was offered- even if we paid a bit more for sea view ? But I had to ask myself- We had a nice big room - overlooking the road - but there seem to be a noisy generator running all night outside the room ? - plus the phone to call reception didn't work ? We asked for it to be fixed- but was told it wouldn't be that evening! Why have a phone in the room if it doesn't work ?We also had a bedside light that didn't work - so asked for the light bulb to be changed- but when we returned from evening out - after 3 hours out - it hadn't been- it turns out on our return- that the light just hadn't been plugged in - after my wife checked it !Overall hotel is ok -but with my experience of staying in many hotels- service here is poor- I am sure they would get repeat custom if it was improved ?? As it's a Lovely spot with estuary views

My wife and I went to this hotel restaurant in a room set aside for our group. When we got there we were presented with a menu. We chose melon, Turkey and the dessert choice would come later. The melon was hard and not ripe. The turkey meal consisted of thick slices of white meat mysteriously all the same shape as if it had come from a tin! The carrots were hard, the cabbage (no sprouts!) was undercooked, the saving grace was the roast potatoes (no boiled ones). Then came the dessert choice and guess what....NO CHRISTMAS PUDDING!!! We had a piece of tepid thin so called apple pie with watery cream . Mince pies and coffee then followed which was OK. The cost of this meal was £18 per head. I have had Christmas dinner recently for the same price at a different establishment. On that occasion it was excellent. This was a ripoff with poor quality ingredients. We will not be back.

My wife started with Ham hock with peas terrine , whilst I had Whitebait. Best whitebait that I have had in a while and my wife adored her terrine. Neither of us could resist the belly pork main course which fully met our high hopes. We cannot have deserts but they did look seductive. Service was good and the food was served promptly in a most pleasant manner. The room is very attractive and a delight to be in, with a view over the Severn Estuary to the lights of Wales. The cost was reasonable. The only reason that I have not scored 5 is that at home we have a suspended light over the dining table and here the lighting was rather low.

Ate here oncyhe saturday evening of a weekend stay to meet up with old friends. Unfortunately, the noise from the wedding party just across the corridor made it almost impossible to chat and despite my comments about the volume, the door to the restaurant and the door to the party room were kept open. Our meals arrived and i had guinea fowl. On the menu it was pan fried guinea fowl so i was surprised when a leg arrived and not a breast. It was also quite overdone so a little dry. The accompanying vegetables had no glaze on them the potatoes however, were nice.

We stayed in Walton park hotel for five nights, nearly all the staff were very helpful, lovely view and a great location, nice and quiet. But...I was charged £7 for two slices of toast which is very excessive as the kept running out of full English options...on looking on their own web site we seem to have been booked into a standard room when we in actual fact booked a superior room via late rooms.com but it states on Walton park web site executive room our room was nowhere like that!!! And on departure which was Friday 7th August 15 the receptionist on duty appeared very eager to get rid of us @ 7.30am as there was a wedding booked in that day and guests for the wedding had started to arrive, we had not even had breakfast so we reluctantly went without breakfast and went, that spoilt an enjoyable few days away, obviously our money was not good enough as they get huge money for a wedding, I think guests are just as important as well as any event that the hotel may hold we pay just the same as them, and being hurried to depart because of a wedding is unexceptable, if they book a wedding in a place like that they must appreciate that there are holiday guests and that they have paid also!! A real shame. A nice building with a lovely bar area. The Duty Manager was working behind the bar and was a real gent, he lit the fire for us, lit candles and really made us feel at home. We wanted to eat early as we had an early start the next morning so was going to eat in the bar area, food served all day. The menu was poor with nothing on there that neither myself or my partner fancied. We enquired about the restaurant and was told that it wasn't open until 7.30pm we decided we would book a table and eat sharpish as to get an early night. We went into the restaurant at 7.30 as planned and they sat us, it was by a really drafty window, it was pitch black outside so the view wasn't really the issue here. We asked to be moved somewhere warmer and we ended up closer to the kitchen. As we wanted to be in and out we didn't go for any starters, we just ordered mains, and a bottle of wine. (wine was extremely expensive in my opinion for this type of restaurant)When the lady took our order into the kitchen, we heard the chef shout back at her and said, "if that table who aint having any starters think they are gonna get their mains any quicker they have another thing coming" Nice......When the lady brought over our wine I said, we may have to wait for our mains then? She said smiles very awkwardly. The food came in about 20 minutes which is fine, why the fuss? It made us feel very uncomfortable and the noise from the kitchen was horrendous. The menu was poor with little choice, and the quality of the food was also poor in my opinion. Room was ok although cold and drafty again. I will not be returning to this hotel in the future, I am sure a lovely location, food and service need attention in my opinion.

I was led to believe, and the website states 8-5pm! Curtly told that's it! Thank you very much young lady. One attitude spoiling what has been a lovely place to go. Not overly large place so booking is advisable. Having said that, 4 of us turned up without a reservation having had some difficulty in booking a table ? However, the lovely guy at the desk shuffled things around and got us a table. What a great experience ! Chicken, beef, lamb dishes were amazing! Rice, noodles, potatoes, salad, pasta, fish, calamari, chocolate cake, chocolate fountain, gatuea, whippy ice-cream, array of fresh fruit etc etc ... So many choices! We were VERY impressed and have already booked a return visit ! Staff are helpful and polite and kept very busy ! We thought it was good value for money. £13 for children. £20 for adults ...evening price . I think a little cheaper on a lunch time ? All in all a very good experience.

Also ordered the breakfast set 1 and didn’t enjoy any of it, all over cooked! Shame but wouldn’t go back for food only for coffee. Wasn’t worth £25.00 and this included a refund of one egg.
