My friends and i bought food and drink (8 of us) and spent probably over £50. After we finished eating/drinking we were kicked out as “this is a pub not a community centre” - bearing in mind there were only 4 other people in the pub at this time. It was only one staff member who was rude and unwelcoming- normally staff are quite friendly.

A wee gem. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, and the pub itself is just beautiful in its atmosphere and setting. We came in for Sunday lunch. Absolutely delicious! Asked for a wee bit more gravy and was given a small ocean-going liner of it! Next time we're back this way, we will definitely pop in.

We haven't been in here for a few years because it had gone downhill. Popped in yesterday evening for a pint and discovered it had new owners. Had a totally different feeling to it. Warm and cosy, a buzz about the place... Staff were friendly, and a nice pint. Also discovered they had a visiting pizza truck outside every fortnight, so have to give that a try sometime. All good. Worth a visit if you, like us, avoided it in the past...

This pub has recently been taken over and I cannot recommend it enough. The staff are excellent and the food is great. The current owners have put so much effort into making it back into a local pub, and it has worked. The owners son has taken over the kitchen as an apprentice and I can't wait to see what happens in the future. Well done everyone Ricky and the team, keep up the good work ❤️

Our lovely local! The pub was recently taken over by new management and they’ve made what was already a sweet pub super cosy and welcoming. We recently hosted my partner’s 40th birthday there and the landlords couldn’t have been more accommodating. A great pub, with great service, great food and a lovely setting. It is only spoiled by people vaping indoors,so if you are eating or just having a beer, you have to put up with clouds of stinking fruity smoke, this is obviously not good and spoils the pub and the evening..other than that it is a great place to eat and drink and we will return and would highly recommend the Brewers Arms. We’ve been back again a few times,it’s under new management now,but on Sunday evening we were in,and the vaping is still going on,hopefully the new management will put a stop to this…..watch this space

Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. I'd like to have given this place 5 stars and I'm sure as time goes on things will improve. However I've knocked off 1 star because quite a few things on the menu were not available. It also took over 45 minutes to arrive (in a fairly empty pub) and each dish arrived 5 minutes apart so as the last person started eating others were finishing.

The bar staff are just out of primary school and have their friends waiting on a table by the bar. It felt like the local youth club. What an interesting visit to this very quaint Somerset pub. We sat in the garden to begin with and ordered our food. The menu is very basic, but that’s not a problem. The pub was extremely quiet on our arrival. After three quarters of an hour, we enquired as to where our food was and were told that “you’ve ordered pies and they take 45 minutes”. (Had we known, we wouldn’t have ordered pies). We moved indoors as it started raining. Ten minutes later (so 55 minutes!) our food started to arrive. There were six of us and we think the food is cooked quite a way from the bar as there was a few minutes gap in between each meal being delivered to the table. So much so, that by the time the last one was delivered, the first meal had nearly been eaten. (Bizarrely, only one plate was carried to the table per journey!) The actual food was fine. Not spectacular but fine. No apology for the length of time the food took. Probably wouldn’t go back unless we had a few hours to spare.

The setting of this pub is beautiful with a stream running in front of it where they host their duck race, however the pub is a different matter. It's very run down with banners for sky sport and football all over the place. We went on a Sunday afternoon for a quiet drink however pop music was blasting out. We asked for a Thatcher's gold and a Bombay saphire gin, we were told that the bottles in the optics were just for show but we do have Gordon's. The grass in the beer garden hadn't been cut and the benches felt like they could fall apart. This pub could be really special however it just seems to be set out to attract people who want to watch sky sports, but not even they can be bothered there was only four other people there. Sorry this place is just a waste of space.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This is a traditional village inn, slightly off the beaten track and unlikely to get too much in the way of passing trade. As such, it’s a bit of a local’s pub with just a handful of punters propping up the bar on a recent Saturday lunchtime visit, one of whom was swearing rather a lot which I always think creates a rather unpleasant atmosphere, especially in a quiet pub when everyone can hear it and there are ladies present. Outside is a good sized garden as well as a covered smoking area with some leather sofas. Décor wise, it’s quite traditional and with a minimal amount of work could be quite pleasant. There is much exposed stonework including a partition wall splitting the pub in to two halves, with a walk through at each end. Elsewhere the walling was painted wallpaper, cream at the top and maroon lower down and it was this that looked very shabby, with large sections of paint having peeled off to show the previous colour underneath. Something that could be easily fixed at minimal cost and a few hours work smacks of a landlord that takes no pride in the pub. There were a few black beams on the ceiling and a massive stone fire-place with a wood burning stove. A plasma was up on the wall showing the F1, and I thought this would have been better placed in the “public bar” half of the pub along with the darts board rather than in the lounge area. There were a few large speakers around and a notice board advertised a forthcoming Elvis night as well as a BT Sports fixture list. The menu offered a selection of basic pub grub such as hunter’s chicken, sausage & chips, fish & chips, burgers, sandwiches and jackets for around the £6/£7 mark. My ham, egg & chips was a generous portion with plenty of chips and two eggs, although the ham was of the cheap processed variety rather than anything hand carved from a joint. Similarly the tomato sauce was from an unbranded squeezy bottle and was very runny. For the price though, I guess it was fair enough. Despite four had pumps on the bar, two appeared unused and the Bass had run out leaving Doom Bar as the only option. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold & Thatcher’s Haze, which I’ve not seen on draught before. I think the character of this pub is likely to depend on who’s there at the time. With the sweary bloke at the bar on our visit, I didn’t really warm to it, but on another day it could easily be a friendly little local, although even the barmaid didn’t help by ignoring us as we left.

I have to say I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviews. This little pub is a fantastic lace to drink or eat. It feels like a proper pub and the staff and patrons are all extremely pleasant. There is a nice beer garden by the river, away from the hustle and bustle of the village centre, and a children's play area. Inside, the smell is that of a real pub. Drinks are very good and the Sunday lunch is delectable: possibly the best I have experienced, certainly in a pub. Love everything about this pub and have returned every day on my visit to Banwell Castle, and will undoubtedly return again!
