Won't be going back there. Plastic starters from the pingepong, and a chicken jalfrazie that was nearly vegetarian. Only 7 chunks of dry chicken in it, and all the veg was still crunchy.

1st class service once again, thankyou. Food was delicious, enjoyed by all. My Daughter really enjoyed her birthday meal and the extra touch was so very kind of you. Would really recommend, always fantastic.

Booked for 8 pax on Friday night at 6pm. We brought our own wine and beer and the staff were most relaxed with us. They served us popadoms and sauce , very nice . We had 2 children also with us and they had kids meals with Ice Cream after . We booked starters and mains each along with various breads and rices etc. it was soooooo nice and we shall return soon . We ended up taking a doggie bag home . The place was busy but atmosphere was very nice however .

Visted solos in Skelmanthorpe with family from Wakefield the food service & ambiance was fantastic. definitely recommend.

Beautifully made food with big portions we have been here a few times now and the liver starter is amazing and the garlic chilli chicken. It's bring your own alcohol too so keeps the bill down even though it's very good for money! Would recommend the staff are lovely too

Date night with the wife was very busy but to be expected on a Friday night. Service was brilliant was seated straight away. Had the sizzling starter which was terrific definitely recommend it .

Very tasty Korma, although extremely small portion size. We sat in. We got 5 pieces of small chicken. Extremely stingy and a massive let down.

Very bright lights, barely anyone eating (us and two other tables), no music playing and borderline cold. Starters not too bad but pickle tray came with just raita. Was expecting mango chutney, lime pickle and onion/tomato. One main was served in an actual frying pan on a wooden board which was a bit odd and the handle just kept getting in the way. None of the food was particularly hot either. Bit disappointing. Oh and they only take cash…

I have just eaten at Solo's and had a very nice meal. The ingredients were very good quality - I had King Prawns and they were plentiful and tasty. The service is very prompt and polite. Good parking Highly recommended.

My daughter and I have a Solos most Fridays. The food is always lovely. The service is fantastic, Mo is always great when he takes our order. The restaurant and take away, has been in Skelmanthorpe for a long time and long it may continue. Thoroughly recommend Solos.

Midweek evening meal for five. Entered restaurant and had to wait several minutes before someone arrived to show us to the table. The food was tasteless and disappointing On departure it’s CASH ONLY. Who carries £100 with you these days. Will not be returning

Are here alone whilst staying overnight with work. Never ideal being Billy No-mates but really didn't fancy what the hotel I was staying in was offering. Very quiet in the restaurant ( early evening and midweek) but welcome was warm and service good. On arrival discovered that a) cash only and b) not licensed for alcohol. A quick hundred yards walk to the co-op sorted both problems. Free poppadoms to start - I hadn't intended to order any but they arrived any way - excellent spicy fish starter followed by a passable biryani and a chapati. £14.60 total which I thought was excellent value. Not breathtaking quality but by no means the worst I've ever had. Would certainly return if in the area again.

This is a late review and my feedback is based on the day in question. We've used Solo's a few times and never had any issues what soever. We've also eaten in the restaurant and never had any issues then. What I will say is... we was given a solos voucher from our gardener has a token of appreciation being a good customer..it was a £50 voucher to either use at the restaurant or takeaway.. I ordered £25 worth of takeaway using the voucher and ordered a meal for 2. The manager I spoke to said he'd sort out a good deal for 2 and I thought that's brilliant. We was told to go pick up so no delivery and when we got the food home I wasn't very impressed of the quality or quantity. It tasted very bland like there was no effort at all. Now I know we paid with a voucher and I expected to have the same good quality food we usually receive but on this occasion it was rubbish. In my eyes the voucher is just has good has cash it's just a shame the management don't see it that way. I still have £25 of the voucher left but after the last experience I don't think I'll be using it

Family party of 5 adults and 6 children, Christmas day lunch of pickle tray and popadoms, mixed starter with five different Indian starters, any main course from main menu, plus a delicious Indian sweet. All food was delivered with a smile by our waiter and each course was piping hot and delicious, arrived to find Christmas crackers on the table. Will be back next year for the same, Do not be put off by the takeaway shop on the main street, drive round the back to the car park, up the iron staircase to the seating area and enjoy one of the best Indian restaurants (in my opinion) in West Yorkshire. Price on Christmas day £25.00 amazing value when local restaurants were quoting up to four time normal prices. please visit Solos if you enjoy Indian food you will mot regret it.

Ordered a takeaway for Christmas Day. Delivered on time after pre-ordering. Service with a smile and excellent food. Well boxed and arrived nice and hot. Would definitely order again.

I very nearly didn't order from here as I never like curries from takeaways, but we were all craving one, never tried here before so gave it a whirl. The food was delicious. Not only was it super tasty you could tell it was quality food. The chicken chunks were soooo nice, not fatty and tissuey or slimy, not hard and shrivveled, just big juicy chunks! The sauce was delicious too. Actually looked a bit odd at first as it was so bright haha but trust me the flavours were simply lovely. I usually just get a Korma, but we got Korma and the Mackhani one, the Mackhani was so so tasty I'll be ordering two lots of that next time, though the Korma was nice, it was like a Korma with a kick!The Garlic Naan.... Soooo garlicy (is that even a word?) it was very tasty and tangy!We also got onion bhajis and vegtable samosas and they were so nice, only issue we had it they were a little bit too spicy for my kids, and they usually like spice, but that meant more for me haha! Food 10/10 (maybe half point off for the very spicy extras!) Service 10/10 came at the time stated and the delivery guy was very friendly. The tempature of the food was piping hot so just right when we got it from the cartons to the plates. We loved our meal, so thank you, we will be back1From our little family at Denby Dale, Withyside.

Ordered 3 curries on Just Eat tonight. They took the trouble to call me just to check a couple of details on the order - which was much appreciated - and the food was delivered quickly. Fantastic curries, really tasty and decent size portions. We'll be back... Highly recommend Solos!

Just wanted to say thanks to the key workers @ solos for staying open.We ordered the mega meal for 2 which was £10pp we had lots of food and the quality was amazing especially the mixed starter the wait time was as expected and was told how long on ordering we weren’t disappointed and have now found our weekend treat! Looking forward to our next order.

Had an amazing takeaway last night! Solos were upfront from the start with the approximate waiting times (when everybody is on lockdown and understandably everywhere is busy!) I personally would rather be told how long it’s likely to take and when our food arrived it was top notch!! Especially the Chicken rogan josh which was melt in the mouth . Never used before will definitely be a repeat customer

Never given a 1 star review before so giving 2. Unfortunately most was inedible, odd flavours and poor quality meat. Perhaps it is because they are so busy meeting demand at the moment. Unfortunate for the customer as spending money on a takeaway when most aren't working during this time is a big deal. Won't be trying it again.

Birthday meal with eight friends, everyone loved it. I return time and again to Solo’s and I’m never disappointed. Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Take away is brilliant too - love the free poppadoms, nice touch.

Good atmosphere but service was extremely slow. Food was average and lukewarm by the time it eventually arrived at the table. No alcohol licence so take your own. Far better Indian restaurants in the area.

Fantastic place - good service, delicious balti, fresh and tasty naan, and probably the best Dal I've ever tasted at an Indian restaurant. Very good value too and was surprised it wasn't more expensive given it's a famous place.

The banister up to the toilets was very dirty and sticky, the stairs seemed filthy like they needed a huge clean and vacuum

We arrived earlier than planned yesterday, and were greeted by the most hospitable staff who took care of our every need! They escorted us to our tables and made us feel at home! The food was delicious and the service was spot on. The tandoori masala was the best Indian curry I’ve tasted in a long time!!! I only wish we had enough space for all 3 courses! The value was excellent compared to other prices we have seen and we found the quality and atmosphere hard to match! This is defos now a new favourite and I can’t wait to book our next meal!

I visited solos as part of a teachers work Xmas party last week, we normally go to a restaurant in Huddersfield but thought we’d try somewhere new! The food was amazing, we were so very happy with the different styles of food and really appreciated the fast and very warm service- a very special thank you to Mo, you went that extra mile to make sure everything was perfect! We will all definitely recommend, and can’t wait to pop back in, would definitely recommend the lamb biryani to anyone planning on trying!

Food good , service slow , all the paintwork was “ sticky “ upstairs accessed by a worn stairs and a sticky hand rail , ( try to walk up stairs without touching it , toilet doors dirty and sticky . Could do with a good clean

We visit Solo's at least once a in a couple of month. since moving into the area 10 years ago we'd tried it on advice of some neighbours & was really pleasantly surprised not just by the quality of the food but by the warm friendly atmosphere.

Another decent curry 10/10 whatever I order I have never no complains I have been to other restaurants/takeaways in past but always go to solos now because the food is spot on, home cooked delicious food welcoming friendly staff food always on time especially mo he is a gem very professional genuine funny guy best restaurant in hd8 area would recommend ❤️

Great price £12 a head, poppudums mixed starter selection. Your chosen main then a selection of rice and naan breads! What a spread, all very tasty. Pleasant surroundings and staff. Don't forget to take your own liquid refreshments!

Solos has been in the village for 30 years now, and I have visited hundreds of times over the years. Terry and Mo have been part of the village for so long it's just a natural choice to go there for a sit down curry.

I went their with my family and it was great food and great service I would definitely recommend it, especially if you live locally

It’s the first time we’ve tried Solos and we’ll definitely be using them again. The food was delivered piping hot and well within the estimated time. Top marks for quality food and service. Keep up the good work!

On Tuesday evening we contacted Solos to make a booking for six people. We turned up early on Wednesday to enjoy an evening with our friends (that had travelled for more than an hour). Only to find that the restaurant had been closed by environmental health on Tuesday afternoon for Rat faeces in the kitchen - We were astounded that they hadn't tried to contact us to cancel the booking!

We booked to dine here on 14/05/2019 just hours after the notice had been served. They still took the booking. We turned up last night only to find the restaurant closed and displaying a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice. A rat infestation had been noticed and observed during evidence gathering. I understand these things happens, as bad as they are, but why not contact people to say the restaurant was closed and save us a trip? Posting on social media that you are closed due to 'gas problems' is just disingenuous.

The best Indian food in skelmanthorpe very friendly staff and good food makes for a good night out.and because you bring your own drinks it even better

Family visit at Christmas for an `alternative` lunch. Lovely frontage in a lovely village on the fringe of Huddersfield. Bit of a journey unless you are very local. Very good staff and service from all. Food? Pretty average Indian to be honest, but we were there to enjoy the time together, not for the cuisine. A suggestion. Although the place was booked for me I still looked at the reviews on this site. It seems that the "poor" ones are a few years old,. Makes me think maybe new owners? When I read reviews I look at when they were posted, not just what they say. I would not rush back, but would be OK with going again.

I have been coming to solos for years and it never fails to impress me. I use both the restaurant and take away service. I always have the chicken tikka shali and it always tastes amazing. Well balanced heat and spices. So tasty. For the first time this year, me and mum are going on Xmas day, which I'm really looking forward to. Service is great and the staff are so friendly. I highly recommend it.

Busy and not expensive. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. It's a new place for us. Nice mix of food. I have cancer at the moment and asked if they could pick thing that are not too spicy. That was no problem. As my wife doesn't like hot spicy we had a very nice evening. Flavours were tasty, food is hot(opposite to cold nothing to do with spice) and we didn't feel rushed. Must come again.

Accessed at the rear of the Solo's takeaway, this restaurant is a good place to grab your favourite curry. As this was our first visit, we were caught out by the fact that Solo's is unlicensed and you have to bring your own bottles with you. Not really a problem as there is a well stocked and conveniently placed CoOp two minutes walk away. The Friday night that we called in was busy but that didn't have impact on fast and friendly service, We ate very well and at a cost of <£50 for the three of us it was also good value.

Hand to wait 15 mins just for a bottle opener and the place was empty. Food was rushed and comes looking very average no effort in display. Toilets where dirty. When asked to box the meals up they mixed a vindaloo with a Korma. Not a good Indian restaurant

I love this place! I would definitely recommend to anyone with a family , Girls night and events such as birthday or Christmas party . The staff are lovely and friendly and the food is really good and affordable. The inside is new and has a fresh modern twist with amazing lights . I would only ever go hire for a meal .

A perfectly serviceable Friday night tea. Nice to see it had been freshened up since the last visit but the food is nothing special. Not everywhere does have to be special. Usual complaint that there is just too much- I guess that solves the light lunch option for the rest of the week.

I have been visiting Solos for the last 20 years and I can say that it is the best curry house in Yorkshire! The food is always fresh and flavoursome, coupled with fantastic customer service and a lovely ambiance, it's a fantastic place to visit..Naz and his team are always friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them! The staff always make you feel at home. I would definitely recommend solos to anyone who loves curry and I am sure you will not be left disappointed! Not yet tried the free delivery service but I am sure it will be just as good.. keep up the good work lads!

To celebrate my 65th birthday I took eight of my family members for a celebration dinner last Saturday 24th February. We had booked for 7.00 pm and the waiter promptly took our order and around 7.30 pm the starters arrived which were OK but not great. We then waited, and waited, and waited for the main course which took around 50 minutes to arrive.All the food was cold, I had ordered a Kharai which is advertised as flared in the Khari, all I can say that it had been 'flared' long before it reached our table as it was lukewarm to the touch, at best. On complaining the waiter reluctantly took the main courses away and as they were in metal dishes obviously put them under some sort of grill or hot lamp. The dishes were returned about 10 minutes later all dried up and to accompany them we had cold rice and bread which by now had been sat on a counter somewhere for sometime and on our table for around 20 minutes. It is the first time in my 65 years that more food has been returned to the kitchen at the end than had been consumed. After much complaining the manager reluctantly knocked £20 off the bill.

The food at Solos is always lovely. Well cooked, well presented and so so tasty. We’re always made to feel welcome by the staff and whenever we fancy a curry it’s the top of our list.

We eat here regularly and love It! This is our local. All the staff are lovely, we are always well looked after. Bring cash - no cards accepted. Bring your own booze, there's a Co-op in the village open until 10pm.

The restaurant had a full refurbishment last year and is stylish , modern but hasn't lost the friendly cosy atmosphere.. and the food was up to its usual high standard . Solo's isn't a ridiculously priced restaurant like many and the food is excellent it also has excellent service from the waiting staff who are friendly , attentive and nothing is too much for them .. keep up the fabulous work Terry , Mo and the team .. you are the best .

Went with a large group for evening meal the food was beautiful just a shame about the staff overwhelmed with the amount of people to serve which resulted in some tables not even had their main course when the 1st diners of the group leaving for home Solos knew this large party had already booked so why not have employed more staff for the evening ?

Today while ordering a takeaway from solos I realised they had not brought me the veggie spring rolls I had ordered. I rang up to ask if they could bring some round there was a little miscommunication but ...... to my surprise they turned up not only with my veggie spring rolls- that by the way really did hit the spot with the variety of delicious spices and crunchy texture- but with a box of chocolates to apologise as well what a lovely takeaway with a lovely surprise defiantly will be eating again and will also be dropping in to say a massive thank you

We normally eat at a nearby Indian that also offers bring your own alcohol but decided last night to revisit Solos after a long period of not using it - we're typically English in the fact that if we have one disappointing experience, we're reluctant to go back (but don't normally let our reluctance extend this long). The restaurant was busy when we arrived including Asian diners, always a good sign. We were quickly seated and served and went for starters and mains. The food was all excellent with good service in pleasant surroundings and a good ambiance. Portions were generous (and I've a big appetite) so make sure you're very hungry when you go. Well stuffed with quality food for less than £40 for two is a winner in my book. Worth noting that they also have a "Party Time" budget menu for £12 per head (4 plus people) that we are going to use with friends. We'll definitely be going back again soon.

Great place - great food - great atmosphere! We are a family of four and tend to go to Solo's a few times a year more often then not for one of our birthdays.The food is to die for , my husband loves their korma, I enjoy the livers for either starter or the main ,kids love their biryani .The portions are generous and great value for money.

Ordered the platter takeaway featuring poppadoms, starters, curry, rise and nan. Very affordable considering the food quality. Delivery was on time and food was still steaming hot. One of my favourite takeaways in the village.

Having read reviews and had personal recommendations from friends, we decided to give the (newly revamped) Solo's a go.It proved to be a very disappointing experience. The restaurant itself is pleasant enough, and as others have pointed out there is ample parking. Personally, however, I'd rather walk a little further and be served good food.The service was the biggest shocker. We arrived at 6.25pm on a Sunday night, and over the course of our dining experience perhaps 20 other people came in to the restaurant. Here's the thing though - our dining experience stretched over 2 hours!The people serving us were perfectly nice (no complaints there) but the food took aeons to arrive. We were there for 20 minutes before our popadoms and pickle tray were brought out. A further 25 minutes until our starters. Then a whopping 50 minutes staring at the empty table until our main course. Other people were grumbling at the rate of service too.If the food were exceptional, this might have been acceptable. The food, however, was bland and in some cases downright inedible. The high point: my fish pakora starter. The fish was fresh and tasty although the shredded iceberg lettuce and slice of lemon was an unwelcome 80's throwback. Our main courses (selected from the "specials" section, no less!) were terrible. The appearance and flavour of both my chicken Dahi and my partner's Chilli Garlic Chicken was like a generic jalfrezi from a jar. The lowpoint: our garlic naan. We ordered a plain and garlic naan and both were much like supermarket naan bread - doughy and limp in equal measure. The garlic naan deserves special mention, being in essence a toxic waste pizza. I have no idea what was "painted" on the top of the plain naan to anoint it garlic status, but it wasn't recognisably a foodstuff.The failings across the board are such that I can't imagine this was simply a "bad night". The plethora of glowing reviews mystify me - there are infinitely better restaurants within a 5 mile radius and I wont be returning - sorry Solo's!

Takeaway &amp; resturant (BYO), resturant is done out very nicely, staff ok with hubby, I obviously had inadvertently put my invisibility cloak on, as I was totally ignored. Which irritates me no end.Food was bland &amp; tepid.

It's tucked away in a little village between Huddersfield, Barnsley and Wakefield- but the food and the service is better than bigger restaurants in those towns! Take your own drink to the restaurant and enjoy a good selection of foods that all taste amazing. Order a take away and the service and quality do not change from that of the restaurant. Only just started delivering- but since they have- this is the takeaway we order from.

Met up with friends on Saturday night. Restaurant only half full when we arrived at eight but there as a nice atmosphere. The four of us had the banquet - Poppadums, starter platter, curry if your choice plus naan bread and rice all for twelve pounds which girl the amount of food we had was fab value. If I were being cheeky, some mango chutney would have gone been nice with the poppadums but the mint dip sufficed!!Would highly recommend

After my wife and I had been working all day and arrived home later than planned we decided on a curry take away. There sre so many to choose from whee we live but a friend suggested Solo's. We ordered a mix of starters and mains and were told an estimated delivery time. The meal arrived just a few minutes ahead of schedule and it was superb. There was too much for 2 of us but an unexpected visitor was able to take advantage of the generous servings. This will be our main curry venue from now on.there is a restuarant but we only dined at home.

Six of us ate at Solo's on a Saturday evening in early June. We had the set menu which was delicious and there was plenty of food! Service was excellent and the décor is very smart.They do not have a licenced bar but you are very welcome to take your own drinks, so no problem. We had a very enjoyable evening.

It's some years since I have been here despite living not far away. It has been refurbished recently and although small is well decorated and appointed inside. There is a reasonably large menu and four of us all had different starters and main courses. All reported them to be very good. The food is simple but well cooked and looks nice as well as tasting good. You bring your own drinks and so save a lot compared with conventional places. The only downside was that it was very full on Saturday night (no surprise!) and with large parties became noisy. I would definitely return but would make sure of an early booking at a weekend.

The restaurant was quiet when we arrived as it was early, we were seated quickly and our food arrived within ten minutes. It was very tasty and the meat was tender, the portions were well sized and waiters attentive. We were given lots of mint imperials which was a nice touch.

Lovely friendly an helpful staff. Great choice of food with the old favourites an new an different dishes to try! Nicely decorated but the lighting a little too bright for my liking!

Love eating here.Newly refurbed restaurant is V nice.Staff are friendly ,courtious and helpful.I've tried many different dishes and none have been less than excellent,particularly liked the chicken lahori.Pass several other Indian restaurants to eat here kind of says it all.Well done Solos.

Lovely atmosphere, welcoming staff and terrific food. The place has just had a serious makeover. Terry and the team really make you feel at ease. No licence so take your own which makes for a reasonably priced night out

Went here with friends on Christmas Eve, it's been recently refurbished, clean, well decorated with welcoming staff. The food is plentiful, a varied menu to suit most tastes and the food is excellent.At £15 per head for three courses we all thought it was excellent value.Will definitely be going back.

Solo's is a great place to eat, the food is amazing and the atmosphere in the newly refurbished restaurant is fantastic. A 'must try' on your list of restaurants to visit. The set meal for £12.00 (minimum of 4 people) is great value.

I have reviewed this restaurant before but after a visit to the newly refurbished Solos I decided that the last review was well out of date. The new modern look has a light feel to it which is different ambience to the previous incarnation. However the best reasons for comiing here are the new menu and the standard of the cuisine. The new menu is far more extensive and includes dishes I had not heard of before. The use of spices to create very different flavours from the old standards is impressive.Last night I had Lamb Lahari which was superb. I can also recommend the Lamb Jaipur.The fact that they now do delivery takeaways is an added bonus.If you have not eaten here before you have a real treat awaiting you

My mum and her friends go to Solos week in week out so naturally on a visit up there I went with them and have been a couple of times. The food is excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and generous making sure that their customers are always happy hence why they get regulars who keep going back again and again.
