Raaj of India in Kirklees

Staying up the road in Holme on holiday, popped into the Raj for an evening meal. They have a very varied menu and all at a very reasonable price. We were very happy with the friendly service and atmosphere. The food was excellent and we would highly recommended a visit to the Raj. Thank you!

3 of us had an excellent meal at Raaj on Tuesday evening- we all enjoyed everything we ate, the staff were very friendly & helpful, and we thought it was good value for money. If we lived in the area, we’d definitely go back.

Absolutely delicious we will be back. I messed up and had put collection rather than delivery but they came to the rescue and delivered and the curries were fabulous. 5+ stars

not the Raj food that I have previously experienced... keema paratha was cold and tasteless food didn't taste as nice and felt greasy not as we have had before would be reluctant to buy again. we had 2 different mains but both tasted very similar. sorry don't normally leave negative reviews

Brilliant curry everyone with us loved it

The food was ok but not as good as we have had previously. The curry was a little bland (maybe poor choice) and the chaat was quite oily. You also forgot my rice which is the second time an item has been missed in our delivery. Good, fast delivery service though.

Portions where small, been using raaj for years food was lovely but portions just seemed way smaller then they have before, disappointing.

We tried the other indian and we wasnt that impressed. So, we gave this one a try. The food and service are excellent. The after 8's are always a nice touch.

Had a good meal deal at £15.99. Starter, main, ice cream and coffee including popadoms. A nice meal. Also food is not over priced generally on the menu.

When I ordered my food I was given a 30-40 minute time frame which was the usual so wasn't too bad. An hour passed and I thought I would ring to ask for an update,I was told the driver was on his way back and then straight to me which is around about 8 minute drive. Another 30 minutes passed and I rang again, the driver had only just left the shop. In total we waited 1 hour 50 minutes for food. Without any explanation, I think is a joke!! Food was OK, some parts hot, rest of it cold. Couldn't be bothered ringing up to complain because by this point it was pointless.

Online order 22/11/23. 1 Chicken Tikka masala, Pilau rice and peshwari nan. It cost me £20. First of all they sent normal rice instead of pilau rice. Meal was watery with little chicken. I won't be ordering again. I used to use Shimla but they closed recently. Not recommended. Sorry.

Used online ordering system. Chicken Tikka Masala. Ordered and paid for Pilau rice but normal rice arrived instead. Meal was watery and low in chicken. Nowhere near as good as Shimla, which has unfortunately just closed. Won't be going back, especially as it cost £20 for one meal.

I just had a takeaway from this place and I must say the food was incredible.

Curry was nothing like it was supposed to be and the driver got lost and decided it was my fault. Was quite rude. Won’t be ordering again.

Stunning takeaway. I very rarely praise a curry takeaway cause a lot taste bland or samey, but this was delicious. I had the chicken Deshi masala 10/10. Definitely coming back. 😋

Great takeaway last Friday night especially the vegetarian options. Couldn't manage to order online for some reason but very efficient and friendly when I rang them up.

The food arrived lukewarm, the curry itself was watery and the can of coke was warm; clearly not been in the fridge. Absolutely woeful. I will not be returning.

Excellent as usual. Delicious Butter chicken, lovely Lamb Saag and freshly fried chips and warm naan. Perfect.

Hardly any meat in any of the 3 different curries. Sauces where very runny. Onions Bhajis where cold and under cooked. Very disappointing, as been good in the past.

I ordered requesting a collection time for an hour's time. My order was accepted, but 20 minutes later I got a text to say my food was ready to collect, so I suspect my food had been sat there for 40 minutes before I collected. Most of the food was cold. The pakora starter was chewy, the naan bread was like eating cardboard and the chicken in the curry was sparse and like eating tasteless straw. Very disappointed. Would not order again.

Went early on a Wednesday evening when it was fairly quiet and ordered the Thali which is small amounts of several starters and main dishes. It is cheaper on a Wednesday (£13.95) and the food was delicious, definitely recommended.

The staff were great. The food tasted great at the time. However my partner and I have been ill since our visit. Painful stomach cramps along with plentiful toilet trips. I can only assume the rice was not reheated properly as this is the only thing my partner and I shared. Unless both the curries were not cooked properly or it’s general poor hygiene in the kitchen. Never again. Not worth the visit. Nor the illness.

I never finish a full Indian takeaway to myself, onion bhaji, salad, chicken madras, mushroom rice, and garlic naan bread. BUT this one was that delicious. I just couldn't stop eating it! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ without a doubt. Well done guys.

Very average and watery chicken tikka starter. Just four small pieces of chicken. Dry and strange coconut rice, with powdered coconut. Peshwari naan fell apart ; contained no almonds or sultanas, again, just powdered coconut and gritty texture. Chicken jalfezi was very two dimensional and completely under whelming. Not good at all.

Just Eat said order delivered 20 minutes before actually delivered. Starter was cold and one of starters ordered was missing. Not happy!!!

Three of us visited this Indian early in the evening and we were all really impressed. The staff were all friendly, the restaurant was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with Indian music playing quietly in the background. The food was delicious and the best I'd had in a long time. Should we be in Holmfirth again, then this would be our first choice of restaurants.

I pre ordered before they opened and it arrived 10 mins early. The food was great and hot I will be using again

First night of a holiday in Holmefirth so a meal out was called for. Really liked that popadoms and pickles turned up as soon as you sat down without having to ask. We decided on a veg thali and a meat thali both very reasonably priced. These were the best thalis that we’ve ever had and I couldn’t finish mine despite trying very hard. The staff were lovely.

No booking made, walked in and asked for a table for two, choice was given, food and drinks served vert quickly, food was excellent and plenty of it, place was clean and tidy with good service and value.

Food is fresh and tasty. I often get a takeaway from here and they are always excellent. Fast service and food is always hot. Eating in the restaurant is also excellent-great breads.

Wonderful, Holmfiirth is blessed with many fine restaurants and this is one of them.

Have been here a few times and every time the food and service has been brilliant, the food is so tasty and light, we have tried many dishes from the menu and have never had a bad meal, it's a good size for small groups too, not too big so quite cosy. Our 'go to' place in Holmfirth for Indian food.

Popped in to get a takeaway. The wait was only about 20 minutes on a Saturday evening. The food was delicious and great value for the amount of food we received. Highly recommend for a takeaway

Great prices, friendly service and very reasonably priced

We have never had a bad curry here, the food is light, fresh and well cooked, one of the few Indian restaurants where you don't feel just eaten it the following day, they have some interesting dishes and everything we have tried has been delicious. The prawn puri is so light, it's my favourite.

Very cheap prices here, but unfortunately decorated in a very cheap way also. I ate there last night and we were the only customers there, the onion bhaji were greasy and seemed to be cooked in oil that had not been changed in some time, I noticed there were three or four large flies that kept hovering around as we were eating, the salad that came with the papadoms wasn’t very fresh or crisp either which was disappointing. Onto the main meal of king prawn sizzler with a madras sauce which was absolutely fine but unfortunately the rice was of a cheap quality with to much Gee added which just made it soggy and heavy, the fries were just about ok but would Recomend an oil change for them as well as the bhaji. I’ve given them 4 out 10 as a result. The criticism from myself is designed to be of a constructive nature and hopefully not deter anyone else from eating there, who knows my standards may be to high and other people maybe absolutely fine with their experience of eating there?.. some decent flooring wouldn’t go amiss and a re think on the colour scheme, cheap pound shop mirrors and wall decor, black, white, purple, brown used together as the colour scheme just doesn’t work although it seemed very clean and uncluttered, shame about the large flies as it kind of put me off eating to be honest and the fact that the staff seemed completely oblivious. Not a great review from me and I hope they can improve things.

Had a wonderful meal in this restaurant just last night. Great service, amazingly quiet place, cant understand why. Onion bhajis, jalfrezi and madras very tasty and a great deal as 5 courses for £11! Highly recommended. And I come from Bradford!!

Best curry in Holmfirth. Been coming 3 years now and never disappointed. Try the chicken chat, but really enjoy they're onion bhaji.

So this is a mixed review. We ordered online at 16.35 today. Rang the restaurant too and asked for delivery at 19.30. At 19.55 rang the restaurant and asked for an update on our food order, they said the delivery was just setting off, as compensation they would give 2 bottles of Cobra. 20.25, nearly an hour passed our delivery slot, the food arrived... no cobra hmmm here’s £2 😳

Raj is my favourite place to get curry from, both take away and eat in. Service is always spot on, food is wonderful and always at a great price. Would recommend to anyone, not to mention the best Naan bread I’ve ever had.

Nice, clean, fresh and tasty. Best AUTHENTIC selection of curries, best in Huddersfield for sure! Can't wait to visit next time we're in Hudds.

Great food friendly staff a good night as usual

Just had a delivery to local campsite for 4just want to rate mine a veg makarni... It consisted of frozen mixed vegetables, potato, soggy over cooked cauliflower and a pineapple ring. I thought it was disgusting and could not eat it no seasoning or flavour and FROZEN MIXED VEG not acceptable for restaurant food. Awful don't get the veg curry.

Not even close. We have been eating Indian food for over 40 years and I have never eaten as bad a meal. We had it delivered. Mushroom pakoras - a big mass of batter with a raw mushroom lost in the middle. Onion Bhajis - small discs of batter that didn't taste of onion or spices at all. Mushroom Jalfrezi - a tin (I presume) of tasteless mushrooms with no sauce at all except horrid coloured water from the mushrooms. Rice was fine :)

This is a nice looking restaurant on the main road through Holmfirth. Close to centre of town. The staff are a friendly and efficient bunch of lads and the reviews looked promising. I don't know if we are spoiled by top quality Indian Restaurants in my town but the food was not very good. I had a chefs special dish. Which was very creamy and less spicy than a korma. This was my choice and I should have checked. The chicken pieces were all exactly the same size, very poor quality like they were from a frozen supply. My wife had a lamb balti. The meat tasted like stewed lamb and the sauce was gritty and powdery in texture. The keema nan had a teaspoon of minced meat in it which was kind of sprinkled over the whole naan and the mushrooms in the bhaji were were like pencil erasers. Nothing was fresh..all frozen and tinned. Not a top quality meal at all. We ate as much as we could but didn't enjoy it. Beer was good and the price was reasonable. But would never visit again. Awful meal..seriously if you think this is good food then visit our local restaurant in Leek.

We visit Holmfirth once a year on holiday and ALWAYS order at least two meals for delivery from Raaj of India during our stay using the Just Eat app. We have found the food is always very flavourful and of a good sized portion, I have quite a large appetite and am always satisfied with what I have ordered, their chicken tikka masala is served in a rich thick creamy sauce with succulent pieces of chicken breast and the amount of chicken is comparable to other Indian restaurants I have used. The Tandoori chicken is spicy and a deep red and bursting with flavour, onion bhaji, chicken pakora with yogurt dip & crispy poppadoms, rich garlic naan bread and fragrant pilau rice make this a delicious meal. Delivery time was estimated at 50 minutes - it was actually about an hour - but we stay in Holmbridge a couple of miles from Holmfirth yet the food was still hot upon arrival with a very pleasant chap delivering it. Excellent value for money and tasty I can only recommend this establishment and have found the food consistently good for the five years or so we have been using them.

We went in one night about an hour before closing and there was no one else there. Immediately we were treated like we shouldn't have come. When the food arrived we felt like we shouldn't have come. It wasn't a nice curry at all. Service was appalling and they couldn't wait for us to leave.We shouldn't have come.

Fabulous take-away food delivered incredibly fast when staying at Whitegate campsite nearby. Chicken was beautifully tender and all lovely breast meat in our curry meals. Huge naan breads. Good value compared with home prices!

We really like to eat at the Raaj of India and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Situated in gorgeous Holmfirth the staff, service and especially the food is second to none. Jay provides a great and consistent front of house welcome and the restaurant is great whether you visit as a couple or a group.......they always manage to give personal service and they ‘remember’ you when you return which is especially nice. Got to be on your list of places to visit and eat when you’re next in Holmfirth

Food absolutely delicious...staff very friendly

The restaurant offered 3 courses for £12 and a free bottle of wine for parties of four. We were seven but he let us have 2 bottles - brilliant. Staff were humerous and friendly and the food was good - plenty of choice. I recommend it if you are in Holmfirth for the evening.

Thursday & Sunday 5 courses for £10. Excellent.
