Inside decore poor. Fish lovely chips 😡 i call them scraps gravy and tea nice. Staff very efficient polite toilet lovely and clean. Regarding chips MANY chippy use these enemic tastles scraps. As for cost i think expensive £££. But just my opinion sorry i will not be visiting again.

Not been here for quite a while, a neighbour treated me today. Very disappointing. Fish wasn't bad, but a bit overcooked and hard at the rail end. Chips were awful! Tiny bits, hard, dry. I ate a few but the rest are in the bin. With the price paid I expect a lot better than that. Sorry, not going back here.

We have been going to Sole Plaice for our Fish & Chips in Truro for many years and have never had a reason to complain, as it was always what we considered the best Fish & Chips around, but sadly we visited for lunch on Mon 25th March and had the worse experience we have had. The chips were soggy, very greasy (probably reheated) and must have been made with poor quality potatoes as a lot of the chips were green or black (bruised). The fish was nice white fish, but the batter like the chips was also soggy. Can’t fault the service as this was all very friendly. We will try again in the future to see if this was a one off, but if repeated will have find an alternative Fish & Chip restaurant.

Have been going to sole plaice for many years. Always been one of the more expensive fish and chip shops in Truro but was willing to pay for the quality food it usually served. In the last year I would say this takeaway has gone downhill and the food we had this evening was extremely poor. £35 paid and won’t be returning. The fish and chips were overcooked and clearly had been left warming for too long. Should never have been served after a certain amount of time. Curry sauce was lumpy and too thick. Ordered and paid for sauces but not packed in the bag. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Disappointed as chips were very like warmed up chips, not crispy at all. There was an after taste that was really unpleasant. Fish was quite tasty. One of our party bought a curry sauce, was full of lumps as if not blended properly & proved inedible. Don't often get fish & chips, had family staying & this was a 'treat'. Most chips went in bin & I was surprised & upset at the quality of iverall meals.

We really fancied fish and chips and to treat the children after a busy week. Bought four lots which came to almost £50 (though very good portion sizes). Sadly all ended up in the bin. We were gutted. The chips somehow managed to be a soggy mess yet not cooked properly, the fish tasted of grease and grease alone. We hate waste and really tried to eat it but sadly it was totally inedible. I was actually rather sick that evening too as what I did eat didn't sit well in my stomach :(. Would suggest avoiding unfortuntley. Such a disapppointment.

Beautiful piece of fish inside a greasy over cooked batter and served with nearly warm scrappy chips. This was once one of the best fish and chips in the southwest. We have since changed our opinion!🤔🧐😕

Juse picked up some food from Sole Plaice. I found it disgusting. I only had chips but they can only be described as an inedible luke warm greasy clump . Not luke warm because of a long journey home. We only live down the road. Not recommended. Chips - bin - thank goodness I didnt have fish.

My family and I have been visiting this fish and chip shop for nearly 30 years and have always loved it , food always fresh and service friendly with a smile . Popped in yesterday (Thursday) and has my usual steamed fish chips and bread and butter . I asked if I could order a side salad as an extra the server said “oh no ! The salad isn’t great I’m sorry , it’s really not good “ I was surprised at this so I said no salad ? She said I wouldn’t recommend it or serve it but I can see what I can do . I said to my partner what could go wrong with lettuce tomato and cucumber. Not long after our food arrived minus the salad Server said have you got everything ? I replied sorry you’ve missed the salad her reply “ no no salad today it gone off “!!!! But I can try and see if I can give you a tomato and cucumber which I declined after her saying it had gone off This was such a weird thing to say does make you wonder what else had gone off . Couple of tables came in after us and sat near us , food was served to them all with salad !!!! So confusing . Sadly after all these years of coming here it really has put us off returning . Really appreciate the steamed fish and look forward to seeing the response from owner /manager

As a fairly regular customer I enjoy eating in the restaurant at Sole Plaice. The fish and chips are usually tasty, the helpings generous and the staff prompt, friendly and helpful. My main criticism is that the food seems to be served on cold plates. This spoils the experience of eating at Sole Plaice because the food (especially chips) gets cold quite quickly, usually by the time I'm about two thirds of the way through the meal. Cold chips are not at all appetising, so to counter the problem, the temptation is to eat too fast, which does not help good digestion! (So far I have never managed to finish a meal without the food being pretty well stone cold by the end). This problem is very easy to address and I'm sure I'm not the only customer who would appreciate food served on nice hot plates.

Horrible service. Not very clear about sitting in and taking away. Went to sit down and was told to leave. Girl behind counter laughed in our faces denying the fact that she said we could sit in. When we tried the chips they were soggy. And the manager also didnt wear gloves while frying the nuggets. Never EVER going again!

Always lovely freshly cooked fish and chips. Good quality and nice they stil use dripping which adds extra flavour. Our go to when we are in Truro.

Haddock and chips haddock was a little grease, chip was very nice. The small cod and chips the cod was a little grease but ok and the chips was nice and crispy. Over all the meal was very good, very nice, nice and tasty. Staff very friendly and polite Give it 8/10

Got to say i had probably the worse fish and chips possible not up to the mark with the fish being in overcooked putrid greasy batter and not at all pleasant as were the chips a strange colour made of small bits of mush and bits of u pleasant bits of fat from the bottom of the fryer Was once the best fish and chips around

We stumbled on the Sole Plaice almost by accident and decided to have lunch in the restaurant. The staff were pleasant and courteous and the service was prompt. However, the best was the food itself. My wife and I both had standard cod and chips and we agreed that this was the best we've had in a long while. Highly recommended.

The lady serving was happy and charming. The man at the fryer was rude and kept on arguing with staff members. The food took a long time, over 10 minutes. The food was good though.

I had to ask the girl server to wash her hands before doing my food order. She kept putting her fingers through he hair. The poor lady before my had to say she had enough salt on her food I really hope it was OK for her. However my husbands fish was ok but mine was under cooked and slimy. It became cat food. Very disappointed as previously had very good food. We won't be going back

Struggled to find anywhere to eat in Truro but stumbled across this unassuming little place and found it had a restaurant behind the takeaway section. It is nothing flash but it was clean abs tidy abs the food was good. Clearly freshly cooked to order and good quality.

Well, where do I start? After an EXHILERATING day at Watergate Bay Beach, my party of ten and I decided that the only way to properly finish a #BeachDay is to have fish and chips and after finding out our nearest chippie was rated 4.6 stars we thought we must have a wee gander. We were all COLLECTIVELY thrilled with our order and even though we made a micro error and only ordered 9 portions instead of 10, we managed to share it round and there was even some left! The service was absolutely marvellous and the young girl who served us, Kelly, was absolutely charming. I would definitely recommend this fish and chip "shop" to anyone visiting Truro forevermore.

Had a takeaway from here whilst staying in Truro for work over a number of months. The fish and chips was probably the worst I had during my stay in Cornwall, extremely greasy and poor quality fish.

This is by far the best chippy in Truro and we get food here about once a month. The back restaurant is lovely, great service and friendly staff.

Went late night shopping with some friends and got a cone of chips from sole place chip shop and bit down on hard piece of black plastic to then be told it couldn’t have been them and I was lying about it as if I was after a refund for a cone of chips lol absolutely shockingly bad customer service and cheap chips guna cost a massive dentist bill!!!! OK, some may compare this chip shop to others in Truro but this is still a great cafe to visit. I'm biased I admit as I live just round the corner, but the food is delicious! The "proof of the pudding's in the eating" and whether you're eating in or out, the food and service is excellent. Lots of chip shops in town but I always use this one and its not because its local to me! Try it; you'll enjoy it!

We are local and always get our food here. Fish is fresh, batter tasty and not too thick. Would recommend the take away, not sat inside.

Did intend to sit in and eat but had only a little time left on our parking so we got fish and chips open and ate as we walked back up the hill to the car. We both got the small fish and chips. The fish was Lily white with crispy batter and the chips were just to our liking. Beautiful. Service was quick and we were served by a lovely lady. Will definitely be back but will sit in and savour the luxury of taking our time.

Visited here Tuesday 11th September the fish and chips were perfect one of the best lots we have ever had, cooked to perfection crispy batter and lovely white fish would recommend.

Arrived in Truro night before a wedding and needed a quick meal after the long journey. Owner of the B&B; said to go to this chippy. Said there were some fairly snide ones about and that this was the one to go to. Selection of different fish. I had hake, chips and peas. Very good quality, not quite the cheapest at £7-something, but there you are. Sign said "all our items are traditionally cooked in beef dripping". Had to dodge seagulls, so find somewhere under cover.

I have been here several times previously,on average once a month, usually 2or 3 of us. The service has been slow as they appear to cook to order but they usually take your order quickly and bring drinks and cutlery. Today I think I must have been invisible. I looked at the menu and say patiently to have my order taken. The couple on the next table finished their meal, went to the loo then left.a lady cleared their table but didn't seem to ssat me right next to it. A group of 4 were then seated tnere, almost in my lap, and before they had even had time to browse the menu their order was taken. I was still ignored so got my shopping together and left. The woman at the till didn't speak to me even though if I had eaten would have been leaving without paying. If you are the manager reading this maybe more staff training...this is the second time this has happened but the previous time you were busy and maybe I was lost in the rush but you only had 9 tables today. I guess a group of 4 ordering the specials gives you more profit than one lady alone. You won't be getting a 3rd chance to ignore my custom. deeply disappointed.

Sole Plaice is the best little chippy in the city by miles. It deserves every award. Absolutely terrific. Only ever had takeaway, so I can't speak to the restaurant experience, but the food can't be beat.

Had to go to Truro for funeral and nipped into sole place afterwards for fish and chip takeaway. I believe its one of few that are open all day. Very tasty fish and chips - staff were very freindly and helpful.

Popped in here a few times usually in the restaurant, this time we had take away, great tasting food, freshly cooked, not greasy, friendly staff very quick service. The fish was very tasty, batter very light, good size portions, good value for the money. Well worth a visit.

The staff were more interested in watching the football than serving. Asked for 1 x small and 1 x large chips both of which resembled a Small portions. They also tried to charge me £3.30 for two cans of coke. No idea how it came to that amount. The food was good but at the amount I paid for I expect more as it certainly wasn't cheap.

We ate at Sole Plaice in Truro. It is a very busy Fish and Chip shop in town and has dine in facilities both ground floor and upstairs. A nice clean, ligh and airy room upstairs was well staffed and they offer regular size Cod and Chips, Small, and also childrens size. We had small and it was plenty. It was also very nice and a reasonable price. Loos are downstairs (ground floor).

Lunch was needed so the bible was consulted. It was difficult to distinguish the restaurants of Truro one from another but this one stood out. Always close to the sea in Cornwall one should not go far wrong with a fish and chip shop but sadly no, not this one. My wife said it must be the beef fat they cook it in.

Both sit in and takeaway are consistently good. There are not many fish and chip places I would go to but this one is the best in town. Portion sizes are ample and the team are always polite and friendly. Would recommend

Went solo for cod and chips. They do provide small portions, which is great, as they are generous portions! The service was friendly and efficient and they gave me scissors to cut my tartar sauces packets - great touch! A great clean well run down to earth lunch - exactly what I wanted!

We always enjoy fish and chips here, as a family the kids eat every bit, as a couple on a rare shopping trip, or like today, by myself simply because i couldn't resist! Honestly the best fish and chips around, it's a shame our local town (Bude) has nothing this good.

Firstly, the Fish and Chips are always lovely and the staff are nice too. The portions have been steadily getting smaller while the prices go up.

I love ordering the regular cod and chips here. It is very tasty, not oily, not soggy and with just the right amount of salt. The price is £7 but the smaller one is £5. I don't prefer vinegar as the usual condiment but you can pay extra 25p for tartar sauce. The shop looks small though there's actually a dining area inside. Staff are polite and efficient. I just live at the Truro city centre and it's lovely to eat fish and chips from Sole Plaice while sitting in front of the Truro Cathedral.

There are lots of choices when it comes to takeaway food in Truro. During our stay we had tried one other fish & chips takeaway and was a bit disappointed. A look at Trip Advisor gave us quite a few options so for our final evening of our stay we opted for this one as it had a restaurant as well as a takeaway. The small restaurant is at the rear of the main shop, easily accessed through the front door and via a small corridor to the right. We were the only ones in the restaurant but were quickly served. I had battered sausage, egg and chips and the wife small cod and chips together with a pot of tea for two. The food arrived very quickly. We asked for some ketchup and mayo which came in those little plastic sachets and were provided with a small pair of scissors to open them - a nice touch. The food was very tasty and the chips fried in beef dripping...yum. The restaurant was clean and tidy and our waitress, Rhea, was very friendly, attentive and looked after us very well. If only all customer service could be like this. If you like traditional fish & chips then you won’t find much better in Truro.

We found a table upstairs and were served within minutes of sitting down and our meals arrived very promptly after, I mentioned to the waitress that the chips did not seem very hot she quickly dealt with it and I was soon tucking into my meal which was delicious, The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the restaurant is very clean. We left as two very satisfied customers, will see you again.

Visited here with the family after a long day out. Sat in the restaurant. Had a lovely waitress called Keely who was so helpful and friendly. Food was lovely. Reasonable prices. You can even have a cider with your dinner :) Very clean and tidy. A small thing but thoughtful.. they provided safety scissors to open your ketchup sachets!

Let's start by saying, that this is not the easiest of places to get to, if you are driving. Truro, really doesn't go out of it's way to assist, with a truly mind numbing one-way system. When you do arrive though, you can eat in, or take away, we chose to eat in and whilst everything is basic (no frills), the food more than makes up for it. We had probably the best fish dinner, in our whole visit to Cornwall, served piping hot and the chips were really good. My wife and I both enjoyed our dinner and would go back on our next visit, it was that nice.

I just fancied fish and chips after smelling the wonderful aroma of chips splashed in malt vinegar and sprinkled with wafting in the air as I was returning to the viaduct car park in Truro.

Dropped in tonight as it had best rating in Truro and we were not disappointed as had special and they came in at just under three quid each... add to that their idea of bread and butter is a doorstep thickened with real butter they'd get my vote anytime!

20 mins for meal fish was soggy and chips cold no staff to complain to told staff member when paying no apology told me next time to complain be fore having paid over 20 pounds both pensioners there will not be a next time

Ive been to many other fish and chips shop places in Truro but I must say the fish is always cooked to profection. And the chips aren’t soggy unlike others. The staff are always smiling which makes me feel welcomed. Will definitely be back

Wanted something to eat in a hurry so called in for takeaway fish & chips. Fast service, fresh & piping hot, delicious crispy batter on the fish and excellent value.

Me and my wife went out with our little boy and popped in to this place as we haven't been here for ages and we really liked it the last few times coming in. When we sat down we had a bit of a squeeze to get in with the pram also. We put our sons high chair at the end of the table and while the waitress was taking our order another women came up and told her to make sure that we move the chair in place of a chair. Now is she had came up to us and spoke to us like we where there then that wouldn't of been to bad and we would of been happy to do so but by coming up and talking to her college like where weren't even there felt a bit disrespectful. We didn't have to wait long after our order like we have never had to and looked great. The o my downside to my food I felt was that there was to much grease on the fish and it made it all soggy on the bottom. Just resting it for a minute more or so would make it much better. Apart from that everything else was good.

As some people have commented, there is a bit of wait for the food, but its not poor service but the fact that they are a busy establishment and appear to cook everything fresh. The waitress took my order quite quickly, and then admittedly there was quite a wait for the tea and food to be brought,but once my fish and chips arrived they were piping hot, with lovely crispy batter, and white flakey cod.

Superb meal at a very reasonable price, good sized meals. The fish and chips were traditional, and beautifully cooked, with a thin lovely crisp batter, mum had ham, egg and chips, the eggs were fried perfectly. The staff were very polite and friendly.

I on occasion stop here for their small cod and chips after finishing my courier round further down on Pydar Street. At just £4.95 it is excellent value for money, just enough in quantity so no waste, and great tasting, love the batter here so light and crisp. Not too long to wait either 5 or 6 minutes whilst they cook the fish fresh on order. Enjoyed the meals so much when visiting Truro with the good lady wife last weekend decided to stop here for a sit down haddock and chips before embarking on our journey back to Mid Devon, disappointed that there was no haddock left, but the cod we ordered instead was superb, quick friendly service, and all cooked fresh, and plenty of it, the wife couldn't eat all her cod it was so big, so we took it home for our old cat Boris who is 19, he absolutely wolfed it down, so there's a testimony for the fish LOL will be going back, and hopefully there will be some haddock left for us next time.

Tuve que esperar para ser servido, que es lo que esperaría en un concurrido tomar un viernes sin embargo cuando pedí una pequeña porción de pescado y patatas fritas me dijeron que tendría que esperar 5 minutos, ya que no habíamos pedido. Me decidí a la porción estándar. Las patatas fritas eran grasienta y tuve que tirar el pescado lejos porque era viscosa y comestible. Went here after a long drive from the Lake District, as we didn't feel like cooking. We sat in the restaurant area and after seeing the generous sized servings on the table next to us, we ordered two serves of cod and chips, one of cod and salad and one of chicken and salad, and shared the chips and salad. Great service and the food arrived quickly. The salad was lovely, and the chips tasted home made. The fish was great. Highly recommended.

I bought a small chips with 2 battered sausages at around 4.15.pm a young girl served me, as I was paying by card she got a young lad to take the payment and she started my order then due to some confusion over how much extra it will cost to pay by card I missed her putting on salt and vinegar without the chance to say I don't want vinegar, as she lifted the vinegar I tried to stop her, she just stared at me like I was crazy! I said 3 times I can't have vinegar before she caught on then said 'we only got 1 battered sausage left' so I took it (unsure why another couldn't be cooked but nevertheless I needed to get to work so accepted that) there was no attempt at an apology just a stare like it's my fault she couldn't ask if I wanted condiments?? I felt awkward and will not return.I told my wife about this and she said she has been a couple of times as she works in Truro and have found some staff to be rude like they don't want to be there.The chips were nice though!

Went here yesterday for lunch with my daughter and granddaughter,very helpful with seating as my granddaughter was in a wheelchair.we had Cod and chips with extras,fish was cooked beautifully with a nice light batter chips were fine and real mushy peas not tinned.lovely meal good service and reason ale prices.

Have not been here for a while but as Fish & Chip shops go its not bad. £17.50 for 2 x haddocks and 1 x chips with a portion of mushy pea and pot of tea. No car parking.However to say its the best fish & chips I have ever had is over the top. Barneys in Wadebridge takes some beating as does Morrish's in Redruth which has free parking. Parking in Truro is EXPENSIVE and not in the town centre. M&S is £5 for 4 hours, Tesco's has camera's to watch your every move and is a right paraphernalia getting your ticket, I never go there because of this.

Decided this would be our evening meal where we could go on through and eat in, a nice and very clean section to eat in. The fish was a real high quality with a crunch to it, while the chips was honestly the nicest chips I have ever had! I would definitely recommend it!

Stopped off here today on a walk around Truro glad we did fast friendly service and some of the best fish and chips I've had especially the fish nice and fresh with crispy batter 5* from me
