Soldiers return in Basingstoke and Deane

Very noisy in the front bar. Not my favourite pub in Basingstoke.

Been coming into this pub on and off for the last 12 years since living fairly local to it. Drinks are a fairly reasonable price and the atmosphere in the pub is always decent with a generally good crowd of punters. So today after booking a table for Sunday My wife and I decided to have their Sunday lunch carvery. Well top marks to the pub it was lovely, the food and service was very good and I cannot fault it. I'm no Soldier but I will be returning very soon for another lunch.😀

Really good night that turnt annoying because one of the owners. If you mean you told us 3 times in the space of 10 seconds then it's a joke. Everyone else in the pub thought it was pathetic aswell which was just amusing.

What can I say? I've been a local pub drinker for decades, and I'm 28. I have been to pubs since I knew! Good old days with the Popinjay, and it's now gone to shame with the result of having to go to the soldiers. I like this pub, and that's why I was there, but we have a respectful owner and a miserable one. Trust me, you won't last a minute. I was having a lovely day for my birthday, which was also part of a fundraiser, and now I have been technically kicked out. Not me, but after 1 minute of being told that kids are not allowed to be drinking their drinks, I said that's fine, and now I will get from the bar. Please bear in mind that I am looking after my own brother and sisters, and in addition, they have their own money to go to the shops. One more sip of her drink means that's it; she's out, and I mean, gone. No questions about it. 1: She is a minor; 2: I agreed to buy her additional drinks from the bar, but apparently it was not good enough. If you see Kev, the owner, he is a really good guy. If not, run a mile because the generation has changed and we are now living in a moany, grumpy woman era, which you do not want to be around for. Not all women obviously but some really just live such a weird life. So sad to see such a good pub go to trash. It use to be my local pub, if you thought we was doing it to disrespect your pub even though we was also just playing a good game of pool with the other landlord. Every time we come in we say hi to the owner because there's a two way respect. Sorry that this review had to be so low because we was all having a good day but it was ruined so quickly.

Very disappointed !!!!! Used to be a very family friend pub but shouting at an 11 year old for drinking a drink she had brought from the local shop, even after we apologised and offered to purchase a fizzy from the bar, the 11 year old was then told to leave and was barred, the child was with her older brother and friends who were having a few beers after a charity event, luckily we have two family friendly pubs nearby.....won't be visiting the soldiers again

Visited for a darts match. Was in the back bar staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely evening.

For a dog friendly pub we were asked to leave because my dog had passed wind not a dog friendly pub in my eyes stay well clear

I went to this pub for the first time to celebrate my mate's 20th birthday and the place was amazing. The service was spot on and everyone was super friendly. Even the bar owner talked to me about the different types of ale they had on tap and was happy to see younger people who were muture in his pub. So I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to try some drinks at a new pub

A pub with potential. Difficult to find due to no signage. I wish I had passed on by. Their customer service is very poor. They stated cashflow is more important than good customer service. Very quiet and I'm not surprised why. Not recommended.

Great location and the locals seemed welcoming, although like most public houses it is clicky. The landlord was friendly and quick to serve. The lady of the house was unnecessarily rude and bolshie so we left after one drink! The cost of one round ( 3 drinks ) was very expensive. I will not be returning to this pub and I certainly wont be recommending it.

Good honest people in this pub, they make me welcome even if I ain't lol. I say please visit this place if your in the area. You will always be more than welcomed in there and the roast dinners in here are very good

Beautiful spot in the sun out the front with a nice garden at the back too... nice selection of different spirits, beer, cider you don't see anywhere else! Lovely touch in the ladies with a little table of toiletries, deodorant, spray and hand cream 👍 and a baby change in there too! Pleasant staff and customers too we will be back!

Popped in to ‘waste’ a bit of time while waiting for an appointment at the nearby industrial estate. Nice traditional pub, clean, friendly and a decent pint. Quite uncluttered inside (modern design) small beer garden and seating at the front Nice

Very friendly staff, lovely food

Staff are friendly and attentive, place has had a re-fresh and it's looking better for it. Good Covid measures in place. Drinks are good, couple of different bottles IPAs would be appreciated, but good gin range and draught beer/ larger. Didn't actually eat the food, but the current chefs food looked super tasty on Friday 28th May and our family said it was great. Generous portion sizes too!

As a Basingstoke football fan. We have taken our time to come here. Excellent service as always and the owners are so lovely. Guinness is beautiful. Would recommend anybody to go. Best pub in Basingstoke

The man behind the bar was extremely rude, patronising and sarcastic. As a young woman, I left feeling very unwelcome and intimidated

Staying in a hotel around the corner this the best pub I've been in since I arrived Tuesday clean tidy comfortable good staff locals seemed fine and amiable I felt relaxed in there it was a proper pub going back later for another go 👍👍👍

Watt can I say every time myself or my wife our son go into this pub the atmosphere is great landlord is good not sure of his name think it’s Dunkon bar staff are great customers are always welcomeing to us we have been there around 10 times maybe more we have never seen any problems in the pub our 7 year old is always welcome he goes plays pool he speeks to every one in there customers take time out to speek to him and us staff is great can not recommend this pub much more brilliant place to go opposit large field and park price on drinks are very good the pub is clean well decorated. Give it ago we went to a function their also around 2 years ago absolutely brilliant. All positive from us . Thank you to all .

Lovely place to eat drink friendly staff

I've only been once during a weekend day. Service was good, clean inside and looks like recently decorated. If be happy to bring the children here again, the menu looked good.

Too noisey. Kids should be banned and why ask for tv to be volume up and then just ignore it. Rude.

Fantastic place for a party. Great Sunday carvery around £9.50 a head, kid's eat for a pound with an adult.

Nice pub with a pool table and jukebox

Excellent well supported two bar community pub brought back from the dead. Only an easy 15 minute walk from the station, so well worth the trek. London Pride and a couple of local brewery ales usually available. Longdog ale on when I visited. Competitively priced menu on the food front.

Small local pub with a nice atmosphere. Often has sports on the tv. Only Down side is that feeling of heads turning when you walk in as it is a local pub for local people and a new face is an interesting distraction from the darts on the telly.

Friendly pub which felt like I was the only non regular. Only one real ale on which was London Pride but this once good and reasonably priced at £3.40. Clean inside and nicely decorated.

I had my hand fasting there. Found out we were double booked. The landlord gave us a part refund. We were happy to share our evening. So all went brilliantly.

Fue en un viaje de trabajo, después de perdernos en el camino, no muy fácil de encontrar, conseguimos. La cena fue bastante buena, pieles de patata eran excelentes y bistec era buena. Lo recomendaría si en la zona ya que sirve comida buena en una zona donde no hay muchas opciones!

Entró a ver el fútbol en televisión porque bt sport app nos indicó la dirección de pub. Fútbol vimos en una ambiente amigable y relajado. Entonces decidimos tener comida, familia de cuatro comer tapas y casa pescado cocinado y patatas fritas, todo por 40 libras extraño. Toda la comida era excelente y muy bien cocinados, incluso los niños impresionados de nuestra muy estricto que no suelen comer nada dado a ellos! Sin duda volveremos en el futuro + +

Le Soldiers Return est un peu l'exemple type de la vie de quartier à l'anglaise.Le bar ne paie pas de mine mais il a pour lui cet atmosphère feutrée des pubs anglais semi-ruraux avec ses boiseries et banquettes de cuir bordeau, ses rediffusions de criquet/foot et ses jeux de société. A mon départ, la carte de cuisine était encore un peu irrégulière mais la situation a du changer depuis...Fait appréciable, il ne sert que quelques grandes références de bières et cidres (dont les immanquables London Pride/Magners) pour laisser place aux nombreuses autres pépites du Royaume-Uni. Chaque semaine vous découvrez une nouvelle sélection du chef.Le pub profite souvent des évènements en week end, des fêtes nationales à la partie de foot du terrain d'en face, pour se positionner en lieu de rencontre du quartier.Et c'est là son plus bel atout.

Fuimos a este lugar un sábado por la tarde, buscando una buena pinta y algo de comida para disfrutar del fútbol. La selección de cervezas y sidra fue excelente y la comida era muy buena. Tuvimos un problema con nuestra orden que fue completamente nuestra culpa (carne en un plato que nos pareció que era vegetariano). No sólo el chef y el personal del bar de solucionar el problema con un plato de reemplazo gratis, estaba hecho de una manera verdaderamente agradable. Servicio realmente impresionante.No juzgue a este lugar desde el exterior, ir y probarlo. No te decepcionará!

Un gran PUB, buen ambiente muy acogedor, buena variedad de cervezas, gran mesa de billar y el grub era bueno. Señor tierra tenía una sonrisa y fue un cambio agradable de algunos de los bares locales. También tenía una sala de póker, adecuada mans pub

Tengo un nivel bastante alto para la comida y he visitado muchos restaurantes excepcionales. Volver andando desde el centro de la ciudad aparecimos para tomar un trago. Terminamos pidiendo comida. Las hamburguesas estaban en especial sólo £4. Hamburguesas caseras de ternera... impresionante... sabor sabor calidad, todo excelente... sin duda volveremos y esta es la mejor hamburguesa enamable Basingstoke gran pub local. Estarás sorprendido por la bienvenida

Clean, bright and cheery since the current manager took over. Staff are friendly, and helpful, the bar is well stocked, the new garden at the back is lovely, and the fenced in seating out the front is Basingstoke's best sun trap. Food currently unavailable as no chef.
