SO! Bar and Eats Ripon in Harrogate

My favourite eatery but terrible gluten free fish Had numerous fantastic meals but unfortunately the fish and chips were terrible The batter was too brittle and the skin left on made it difficult to slice making a mess on the plate and the mushy peas were slightly warm. The worst plate of food I have ever had and will be amaze if this stays on the menu over a month

While staying in Ripon for a couple of days I visited So! twice because it was SO good. Food was excellent and at very reasonable prices, the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. If I'm ever back in Ripon I shall definitely go there again.

Called for lunch on arrival in Ripon having visited a year ago Friendly staff and excellent tasty food, well worth a visit.

We were in Ripon for a random night on our way from Whitby to home .... we chose this based on the Gyros on the menu!... then bonus, it happened to be Quiz and the karaoke night (Weds!) - what lovely evening. We were made to feel very welcome ... We're looking on Rightmove - we hope to be a local one day 😘

Absolutely fantastic food and an excellent gluten free menu. Definitely coeliac friendly! Good veggie options too! Service was a little slow however they were having problems but we were happy to wait. Will definitely be returning! Please consider expanding across to Lancashire!

Visited for a couple of drinks last weekend and then happened to be in Ripon again during the week so popped in for an early evening bite while the car was charging. Shared 241 meal with the wife and we were both really pleased with our meals. Wonderfully cooked, succulent chicken (two types), tasty and fresh! Plus the Guinness was on the money! Definitely recommended.

Pleasantly surprised with this place! We visited ripon on the day of ripon races and could not get a table anywhere so we tried here and they got us in. I wasnt expecting anything amazing but the food was gorgeous! We had a gyros and a steak baguette. The flavours were amazing, so tasty! The cocktails were nice too! And it was reasonably priced!

Popped in for Sunday lunch on my own and chilled with a book and was made very welcome! The lady in charge was excellent and the food tremendous! Only comment would be maybe be a bit too much garlic for some but personally I loved it as I love my garlic.

My wife, two daughters and I had dinner here on Saturday and it was absolutely fantastic. Booked online a few days before and even though we arrived 10 minutes early we were politely welcomed and shown to our table. The decor is great and So! was just a nice place to be. When we walked in we saw a few old fashioned games on the bar (great little extra). Our drinks order was taken and although we didn't have any cocktails the menu looked very good. Once delivered we ordered our food and grabbed a game from the bar. The food was amazing!! The steak and frites for only £10.95 was excellent my eldest said it's the best steak she has had. My wife and youngest opted to share a few starters. Cowboy fries, ribs, prawns and mozzarella bites. All the dishes were superb but the ribs were to die for. Good size portions and great value for money. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our meal. This is honestly one of the best places we have ever eaten in and we can't wait to go back soon.

Visited So Bar for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. Food was absolutely delicious and service very friendly. Extra shout out to Ellis for making sure we were looked after! Will recommend and be back 😊

I went for a Sunday Roast today and it was amazing!

I went to so bar for a roast with my work colleagues. The food was very nice. The service was great. Thank you to Ellis in the kitchen for cooking us a yummy lunch!

So we visited Ripon for the first time, looked at a few eating places and chose this one as the menu looked very impressive. We sat down and a lady took our order, but 5 minutes later we overheard her tell the next customers that walked in that there was an Hour delay for food. Why hadnt she told us? We would have left it if we had known. About ten other customers came in and left when told there was an hour delay. We waited 65 minutes for our meal to come out and we were very underwelmed to say the least. I ordered a chicken parmo which was a small piece of chicken with cheese ,dripping with orange grease. To make matters worse the chicken was placed on top of the fries so the fries were saturated in orange grease. I really don’t mind paying more for good quality food but i find this was very overpriced for the quality of the food . It is a shame really as the decor is lovely and the staff were friendly. I just wished we had been told there was an hour delay so we could have left .

The food at SO is all homemade and absolutely gorgeous. Our party of 5 all had something different and everything was delicious. Our 2 coeliacs had extensive choice and we all commented on the lovely crispyness of the buttermilk fried chicken. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. Can't recommend this place enough. Brilliant experience.

We called in for a few beers with our friends, who have just moved into Ripon. Lovely old pub, with a friendly Landlord.

We found the pub by chance and had no idea it could cater for Coeliac needs as well as it did. I’ve never had such a choice as I did here. Proper battered onion rings for the first time in years, thank you! We were away for a few days so not local to us but if we’re ever in Yorkshire again I know where we’ll be heading to.

Dropped in by chance due to abysmal weather conditions. Friendly welcome on arrival. I fancied a Sunday roast however, priced too high. Fish and chips for me and double burger for Mrs. Batter on fish was slightly under done but was ok as I was hungry. The chips were big fat ones and perfectly cooked. Mrs enjoyed her burger but it looked a bit pink in the middle for my liking. Plenty of choices to dine in Ripon therefore, we would probably give this place a miss on our next visit.

Had Sunday lunch with family and friends and the food was terrible, we had the beef that was supposed to be sliced but was more of a steak and under cooked

Been visiting So, Ripon regularly for a while now and have never been disappointed. Visited Saturday and again were delighted. Extensive gluten free menu which almost mirrors the main menu. Food outstanding as usual. Staff and service excellent, very friendly and attentive. Nothing too much trouble. Dog friendly and wheelchair accessible. Will definitely be back

What a lovely place! The food was really good, they had an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu. They were very dog friendly and even had a changing room for the baby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If we’re ever back in Ripon we’ll be sure to come back

Called in here for a spot of lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. On a cold November day we were welcomed by a very friendly lady and a roaring log fire. The decor is traditional and comfortable. We had two main courses from the 2 for 1 menu and both were very tasty. The beer was good and sticking to the glass; a clear indication of a dedicated Landlord. Excellent!

Food was lovely, staff great, atmosphere was good but spoiled slightly by the entertainment.

What an amazing and extensive menu catering for varied tastes and dietary requirements. The food is so tasty and portions are generous. The staff were so helpful and cheery. The atmosphere was lovely, relaxing and welcoming. We are definitely going back soon.

Had a great bar meal here. Popped in (with dog) at quarter to six. Decided to have two burgers (one veggie, one meat) and realised we were in time for the 2-for-1 offer. Bargain. Well, if they're good it's a bargain 😂 and they were great. In fact I reckon they're a bargain at full price. I couldn't fault mine in any way. It was a bit tricky to eat because it was full of two good quality patties (no cheap rubbish) plus cheese and bacon and dill pickle... I can live with this kind of problem. Plus proper bread bun... I have a thing about brioche. Why do so many places think burgers should be served in soft sweet squishy cake? Yuck. No such problem here fortunately I think to get the offer you have to buy a drink. I had a Belgian wheat beer, very very good. It's always great to find somewhere that takes pride in well-prepared food. Especially somewhere dog-friendly. Will definitely be back

It can be hard to find vegan options so was great to have a whole menu to choose from. I had the vhish shop butty andy pattern the gyro. Both were really tasty. Would definitely go back to try more dishes. Excellent service too.

Very good burgers. Starts were good but not great IMO. Really great to have such an extensive gluten free menu and options. Waitress was very friendly. We'd happily come back.

Very busy when we were here. Food was excellent, simple pub food but very well done.

Four of us dined at the So Bar on Thursday the 31st August. As always the service was very good. We all had different dishes and everybody thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We have dined here fairly regularly and have always enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend you give it a go.

Service was great. Food was inedable, I had the classic vegan burger which I could not eat in it was disgusting, my mam, had the fish and chips, she said the chips were not cooked and the fish was grey, she had the humus for starter she did not eat it in I had the garlic bread which was horrid it was greecy The place is grubby the tables were was sticky.. we will not be going back. My neicr, who has been before didn't even enjoy her meal

Visited here with friends as we were exploring Ripon and wanted a break. Nice welcome - comfortable seating - drinks were standard selection, but food menu seemed a bit different to the norm, and was very welcome. All the food was in good proportions, promptly served.

Of the three So Bars this one plus one in Harrogate and one in Knaresborough, this Ripon So bar is the worst for food,Knaresborough is the best for food and a great pub

Always a good place to stop for a quick lunch or early evening meal when in Ripon. Plenty to choose from on the menu and extremely friendly staff. I have been many times over the years and never been disappointed!!!

A sadly disappointing trip to what was our usual date restaurant. Visited 6th may 23. Had our usual starters, chicken wings and ribs. Chicken wings dry with a drizzle of sauce and Luke warm. Ribs which are Chinese style were covered in stuffing mix! I...

The worst food I have eaten in a long time! We got a delivery via Uber eats, the ribs were soaked through with grease, the batter had no seasoning at all. They didn't even look like ribs. The meat tasted old!! The onion rings were also dripping with grease. The potatoes used for the chips has not been cleaned this was in the taste. The burger meat was also spoiled. Not only that this whole experience was dearly priced. THIS PLACE NEEDS AN INSPECTION BY THE FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY ASAP.

But the guy playing guitar and singing should turn his amp down a few notches 😅

Haven't been in this pub since the early eighties when it was called the Black Bull in Ripon. Sat in the same window from all those years ago. Whale and chips for lunch excellent.

Fantastic place and food but even better staff. From the minute the 5 of us walked in, a table was organised and the kids were given colouring books. My nan couldn't decide on what to eat so she was given more time. The food was delivered quickly and when asking for drinks mid meal, we were given them just as quick. My 10yr old daughter asked for the toilet and the lovely lady walked her there to make sure she found them. Everyone that walked in was treated the same. Will gladly come again and have recommended you to friends that tend to visit Ripon. Thank you.

Stopped for a hot drink. Latte nice, but my friends tea came with oat milk (vegan choice) that was obviously off and had lumps in it. She just had her tea black instead. Furniture was a bit grubby (arms of chairs greasy). Wouldn’t go back I don’t believe. Was dog friendly so that’s a plus.

Finding quality vegan food outside of the city is always a challenge. Here you will find genuine variety and choices that seem to be a priorty rather than an after thought. Fantastic. Will come again.

Food excellent as always but accessibility is not great you can get a wheelchair in but you have to negotiate a steep slope in and out as well as heavy doors. Would be better opening up the door from the carpark for better access. great welcoming staff though.

We popped in today for lunch , brilliant friendly staff welcomed us , took us to a table , service was really really good , we both had standard burgers , the best burgers I've had in a long time , fruit crumble pudding also top marks . Lovely place and has polite service but was disappointed with the traditional egg and chips ordered with bread. I received wedges two eggs and three small slices of baguette, I made my first ever one chip buttie and the last baguette laid a potatoe wedge...

£6.40 for a shandy no wonder it was empty!!!! Avoid decor was nice but there are better places and certainly cheaper

Big menu with a wide selection of food available. I opted for ham, egg and chips. The ham was lovely (thick cut and tasty), the chips were good (so thick cut they were virtually wedges) and there were 2 poached eggs with nice orange yolks. All would have been great had the eggs not tasted of vinegar. I had to give up on the eggs part way through as it was just too much to bear. Still enjoyed the rest of the meal though.

Lovely food and warm, polite service. Prices were good and waiting times reasonable. Recommended for families and ever those with younger children. Highly recommended for a simple pub lunch 😀

Have enjoyed the querky menu several times before but yesterday the mushrom and lentil dish was " hotter than hell", and not shown on the menu as such. Had to leave most of it.

Been there few times already. Every time I'm in Ripon pretty much. It's my go to place for delicious dinner. Either it's a burger you're craving or something vegan - they've got you covered. Lovely place.
