We ate at Smugglers Inn Blue Anchor on a friday evening. We had not booked but went about 6.15. Already quite busy from camp site down the road. Service was a bit slow because of this. Food took a while to come out but understandable with the volume of customers. Very much worth waiting for. Food looked and tasted amaizing. We had 3 different burgers and a fish and chips. Highly recommend a visit.

Heel leuke pub, met goed eten. Het is er druk en gezellig. Het staat naast de camping. Je kan niet direct vanaf de camping er komen. Je met om de camping heen. We hebben er lekker gegeten

Food was good service a bit slow but understandable as it was busy and only 2 members of staff serving at bar and in restaurant, good choice on menu but did note there was not a lot of choice for vegetarians and as we have family who are, had we have come with them it would be disappointing.

We visited on the Saturday 27th July for our son-in-law's birthday. We live nearby and struggle with the menu as it has hardly changed in years. It could certainly do with more of a choice i.e. a curry dish, a pasta which is not a veggie another fish dish besides prawns and fish and chips. The bar has improved and has extended into the restaurant and is very in keeping with the Smugglers name. I think we and other locals would visit more often if there was a better choice of menu.

We visited twice during a stay in Blue Anchor Bay. The first time was on a Friday night shortly after we arrived in the area. Overall the food was very good - I had BBQ Ribs and my wife had fish and chips. There were a few areas where an improvement could be made: get rid of the rock music - it did nothing for the ambiance, replace broken chairs - my wife’s chair had springs hanging out of the bottom, and also educate the waiting staff on the available drinks - my wife asked if there was any local cider available and was faced with a blank stare. Our second visit was for Sunday lunch which was a much better experience. The food was excellent and good value. We sat in a different part of the pub so the furniture was better, there was no loud music and the waiter was much better. If I was scoring just the Sunday lunch it would be 5 stars.

An amazing dining experience, both the wife and I had the ribs and probably the best we have eaten. Extremely reasonable priced too. All the staff were very friendly and had time to make you feel welcome. Will most definitely return and would recommend 100%.

We were waiting 10 minutes at the bar to be served a drink. I then spoke to the rude man behind the bar saying we had a table booked for 7.30pm . His reply was be with you in a minute . That minute turned out to be 1.5 hours later bearing in mind only a table of 8 were eating in the whole place. We were then shown to our table and placed our orders . The staters arrived one missing which we accepted mistakes can be made . We then had our main meal which was very nice .The rude man then came and asked if we wanted puddings which our reply was no thank you . We ordered another round of drinks which he did get but the look on his face said it all. He then approached our table asking did we want the bill, we said yes please .We then paid and with in a minute he was straight back to our table to clear all the glasses etc while we were still talking an finishing our drinks . We then left and before we had gone down the last step out the main door he was locking up . To be honest we all felt very unwelcome and we won't be back again . Such a shame as such a lovely setting but the man behind the bar needs to learn how to treat paying customers .!!! Very disappointed

Went for a drink tonight, was met at the door by a barman who said there was no food which was ok as we had eaten and were there for drinks only. We were shown the way to the bar which was down steep steps but as I walk on crutches I was unable to use that entrance. We were then told that we couldn't use the other entrance as he had mopped the floor so we were unable to go in. No access to customers with mobility issues, really? The barman just said sorry and went inside! We were very disappointed.

We were there on Sunday night after pre-booking 10 days previously. The barman greeted us by apologising for: NO draught beers/ciders available because the system had been down all day and the repairman was taking the night off, only one bottled lager and no bottled ales... AND the menu was limited to cod & chips or scampi & chips. Against our better judgement we decided to stay and make the most of a bad start (where were we going to go at that time on a Sunday night?). The only things special about their "special 'fish and chip' night" was the lack of any other meals, the fact that they were VERY basic, and VERY expensive compared to the two previous nights where we enjoyed meals at pubs with normal pub menus. There was plenty of time for the staff to contact us with a heads-up about both problems, and the barman alluded to this.

My husband and I were staying at the adjacent campsite and had booked a table about a month previously. They emailed me on the day to re-confirm my booking so I thought they seemed efficient. Wrong! We arrived on time and, after standing there being jostled but ignored for ten minutes, we physically grabbed a waitress who was zooming by and forced her to seat us. We didn't let her go till she had taken our drinks order. When the drinks arrived we asked her to take our food order but she said "just a minute" and went off. Twenty minutes later we flagged her down and she reluctantly got out her order pad, by which time my choice of meal had "just run out". The food was good when it finally arrived 45 minutes later. We didn't have the stamina to go through all that again to get a pud, so my husband went to pay the bill. He was INVITED TO LEAVE A TIP !!! The following morning I got an automated email from manager/chef Mark Forman hoping I'd had "a great experience" and I gave him the above details. He replied, telling me about the tough condiions and staff shortages he was experiencing and invited us back so that he could make sure we were treated properly. We declined, but we would have accepted a refund! We felt unwelcome and disrespected.

There was obviously some issues with staffing/kitchen as we had to wait a while for our dinner to be served, but it was worth it. The food was excellent and well presented. The price was reasonable. The restaurant itself was busy, it was clean and it had a good atmosphere, both in the clientele and the layout/decor. The staff were very busy but still had time to be polite and helpful. It’s funny isn’t it, people only tend to write reviews on here if they have had a bad time. Perhaps with more people writing reviews when They have had a lovely meal the overall star rating would be higher. We parked our motorhome in the car park, booked a table for 715 and both had the burger. The service was attentive, the food is delicious and the atmosphere lovely. Gabbs Our waitress was delightful, attentive polite and funny. I can only assume that those who left bad reviews were either very hard to please or had arrived in the middle of the summer when I can only imagine that service was somewhat more hectic.Thank you so muchDon’t avoid this pub due to sketchy reviews, we left very happy and very stuffed. Booked a table here for 2 adults & 2 children for Sunday lunch. Firstly I would like to say the staff are very friendly and accommodating. We were very disappointed with the food. The beef was full of fat and any edible bits were incredibly pink. The Yorkshire puddings would have been nice if they weren't burnt. The potatoes were OK. Vegetables weren't great. And the soft drinks were awful. There were a lot of dogs in the restaurant which was a bit off putting. We booked this place after reading so many good reviews but we didn't even stay for pudding as we just wanted to leave. We definitely won't be returning.

After my nan and grandad having a caravan near minehead for years we always loved coming to the smugglers inn, we had seen a few bad reviews since the change of hands however we thought we would give it a try. We Booked here months ago for my grandads 80th birthday celebration which 15 of us were looking forward to sitting together to have a meal to celebrate as a family after a long wait due to Covid. We were due to have our meal on the Thursday evening and my grandad went in the Friday prior to confirm everything was ok with our booking which they confirmed was all sorted for us.On arrival to find out they have given away our table reservation due to not:- Paying a deposit (not asked for by the smugglers) Not confirming via telephone we were attending when they rang us on the Monday - They called my grandads home phone number while we were on holiday (keeping in mind my grandad confirmed this in person in the pub on the Friday) The barmaids were rude with no apology until the manager came out which he responded we should have given a mobile number to contact us on unfortunately my grandad does not have a mobile number and thought that confirming the booking in person would have been enough. My nan and grandad were absolutely devastated as we couldn’t get in anywhere else as a family however having a look at the reviews around the bad food and drinks looks like we’ve dodged a bullet.

When an elderly gentleman of 80 years old books months in advance for a family group of 15 to celebrate this milestone birthday, and then takes the time to physically drive to the pub six days before to check it is all OK and booked, it's hard to imagine anything can go wrong. But apparently, even after checking everything is OK, The Smugglers Inn are happy to sell the tables on.Their excuse was that this 80 year old gentleman didn't give a mobile phone number to be contacted ( again even though he literally went into the pub to confirm) To make matters worse, the attitude of the two incredibly rude and immature girls on the bar was appalling with them seemingly finding it funny that their miscommunication had caused 15 family members to be waiting to celebrate with nowhere to go. One girl even stated condecendingly " That's how pubs work!" ; neither of them offered any form of a sincere apology; and they both said it was impossible to contact a manager. When someone more senior did eventually appear, they at least offered an apology but offered nothing in the way of solving the issue by offering to rebook for the following day or offering a drink while we tried to find an alternative venue in the pooring rain.I suggest The Smugglers Inn do some much needed emergency training on internal communications and customer service. In the meantime we have had some fantastic meals at The Windmill Inn and The Northfield Hotel, which are only a short drive away.

Visited this inn because it was by the coast, what a disappointment.Entrance is via down steep steps ,although there is a door to the garden it is locked ,no good if disabled, no sign saying you can use the exit which is a ramp.Main point of visit was to have a drink, if my husband had drank what he was given I think he would of spent the next day on the loo. He ordered Lilleys scrumpy cider which tasted like it was watered down also like dish water, so he left that drink told the young lady who served us who said she would tell the landlord, so my husband ordered another drink a Doombar when it came it was cloudy,so he left that too, my husband knows his drinks being 60 years young. To avoid being disappointed don't go if you enjoy a good clean pint.

There was no restaurants around this day selling fish as it was Sunday roast. Calling the Smugglers the Manager said the same as the others that he was only serving Roast, until he knew my son's special circumstances. He offered to cook my son fish and chips, sat us quietly in the garden and the Staff went out of their way to make my son's day special. He didn't have to wait, which with an attention span of 5 minutes is a must to keep his anxieties down. The food was brilliant, the fish and chips was one of the best, the restaurant is on the sea front, clean and comfortable.A huge thank you to the Manager and Staff who made my son's outing smooth and enjoyable through kindness and thoughtfulness.

My husband and I shared a freshly baked pizza which was delicious and within an hour we were told we could go to our room whenever we liked. Went in for a bite to eat. Things didnt get off to a great start when my wife asked for sparkling water, they dont have any.. still water.. they dont have any. Coke. Yes they did, joy. Only it turned out to be cheap rola cola and undrinkable.Food..I had a pint of prawns and bread.. omg. By the time i had peeled the prawns and scraped off the eggs there was nothing left to eat. My wife ordered the pizza and it was inedible.. i actually think it was microwaved. Never again..

we were looking for a place that catered for 5 adults, one toddler and 2 dogs that did Sunday lunch. This place fitted the bill perfectly. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the Sunday lunch was lovely and a very big portion.

In the strange times we live in it was a joy to stumble into the Smugglers for a few drinks and a cracking meal to follow. The approach to Covid was really well managed with very prompt service at both the bar and once sat down for dinner.Definitely worth a return visit soon.

We'd booked well in advance on the strength of reading good reviews, and we weren't disappointed. There was a good range of choices on the menu, but for my husband and I it just had to be an old-fashioned dish brought up to date - bubble & squeak, topped with bacon, poached eggs and cheese sauce. Really tasty. My brother in law opted for the Exmoor burger. He said that the burger was beautifully cooked and the chips were some of the best he'd ever eaten, huge chunky chips that weren't in the least bit greasy. Then for dessert, I couldn't resist the almond rice pudding topped with mango sorbet. It was a proper rice pudding with the rice still in perfectly cooked grains, not a squidgy rice-flavoured mess. I haven't had bubble & squeak or rice pudding for the best part of 20 years but wow it was worth the wait! The staff were all really friendly, and the entire visit felt completely Covid-safe, with track & trace details taken on entry, tables a decent distance apart and all the staff wearing masks and/or visors. It was a pleasure to eat here and we'll return next time we are staying in Minehead.

It doesn't look particularly nice from the outside but inside is extremely nice.We eat three times while staying at Holborn down the road -Two evening meals and Sunday roast.Pizza was fantastic. Really impressed with them. My daughter decided not to have Sunday roast and have pizza as she enjoyed it so much on the Friday night. To be honest the roast was ok but pizza was probably the way to go.The burger was also great.

Lively atmosphere and traditional pub. Our dog was welcomed and we were given a table in a corner where I could keep her out of the way. Social distancing was being observed and everything was clean. The food was big portions and hearty. The deserts were wonderful. I took lots more photos of food but I can’t upload on here! We were camping in the field next door.

We booked in to stay for one night, we arrived early and were fully aware that check-in was not until 3 pm, the attitude of a member of was belligerent and patronising and even though we paid we decide not to stay and left.

We went twice for dinner and both times the food was lovely and well worth the money. However on the first visit my daughter had a glass of milk and they charged us £2 for it which we didn't realise until we got back to the caravan. When questioned it on our second visit we were told by the manager that she can't change the price as it's down to the owner. Unfortunately I think that was a cop out because it's usually down to the managers discrestion. I expect to pay a bit more for milk but not aying 4x the amount. This was to the extreme, could have milked the cow cheaper.

Been to the Smugglers on a number of occasions and we love the food there. The staff are trying with social distancing so we bear with them on that.My issue, on our last visit, was the amount of big, smelly, unruly dogs in the eating area. A real wet dog smell when you entered, a very large dog barking loudly all the time we were there, two large Staffordshire bull terriers knocking beer glasses all over the floor and jumping at whatever food went past on a tray. the woman on the next table to us with quite a large cocker spaniel on her lap, slavering and paws all over the table. It always gets me how people with dogs always presume other people like them?? I don’t mind dogs but not like this in restaurant areas. I bet the dog owners would moan if I took my young grandchildren and let them run around the restaurant shouting throughout their meal. Also, not happy with serving staff petting dogs and then bringing food to the tables without washing hands. In short, nice food spoilt by dogs! Don’t go here if you’re allergic to or don’t like dogs.

The food was excellent but social distancing is not being practiced at all. We were seated in a corner right next to another table, despite there being plenty of empty tables available, the staff wore no PPE and were leaning over us every time they came to the table. Children were running around the restaurant area around our table, the staff said nothing about it. Cleanliness also seemed to be lacking. There were grease marks all over the wall by our table. I would have scored higher but the social distancing is such a massive issue I really wouldn’t feel comfortable going back. If you’re a vulnerable person I’d definitely avoid this place.

First time to this restaurant and it was amazing. Staff friendly, food amazing and everything was up to covid standards. I tired the smugglers exmoor burger and it was amazing. My fiancée had the chicken and bacon caesar salad and she said it was the best she had ever had. Best restaurant in the area by a mile!!!!

Lovely “quirky” pub in Blue Anchor. This place is easy going and welcoming despite the pandemic. I am camping next door and stopped for cider and pizza. I would recommend to anyone. Beautiful stone baked pizza and good cider at a reasonable price. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff.

We were staying locally on holiday for a week and ate at the Smugglers twice and used the beer garden for drinks. Fantastic, friendly place, great Covid procedures in place and the food was amazing! We used the eat out to help out scheme on our first trip for an evening meal. 4 mains, 3 desserts and drinks for £50. Couldn’t fault it. Food was beautiful. 2 pizzas, sausage and mash and pie of the day, really delicious. The cheesecake and brownies were gorgeous. Our second visit was for the Sunday Carvery. It finishes at 2.30p.m and our table was for 2.15p.m. I was a bit worried that we would end up with all the scraps left over, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Delicious roast, all fresh vegetables and roasties and Yorkshire puddings to die for. We loved it so much we are planning on an adults only weekend trip and staying at the pub in one of their rooms. Thank you for the warm welcome !

Menu very limited for lunch time. We took advantage of the Help out to eat out but wouldn’t have been happy paying full price for very basic food. We sat out in the garden and was embarrassed to be asked to go to the bar and pay right now because people have been walking off without paying. You are expected to pay before the food even arrives. To pay you then have to go to the bar against the COVID one way system in place.

Maybe we came on an off day but the service was lacking and the food was pretty awful. A crab sandwich that left a nasty aftertaste, bad fish and chips with mushy fish, and a very average burger. We took advantage of the 50% deal but I would not have paid full price for this meal. A shame as the location is amazing.

We met some friends and was looking for some lunch, so we googled up the Eat out to Help out scheme and found the Smugglers Inn at Blue Anchor. We didn't book but the staff managed to get our party of 2 tables of 4 into some space 20 minutes after we arrived which gave us time to look around the garden and order some drinks. We were seated in a little alcove out of the way, which was great as it distanced us from other diners and we could allow the children to make a bit of noise without disturbing other diners. We were not in a rush, which was OK as the pub service was not particularly fast which may put some people off, but for us it was welcome for us to have a relaxed lunch and chat. The food was amazing, obviously all well made in house. Between us we had the Fish and Chips (very good), Pint of Prawns (not for the faint of heart as it is a WHOLE pint) Sausage and Mash, 2 Pizzas (also home made, as one we ordered without cheese), Mushroom Carbonara (very creamy) and Fish Finger Sandwich. All was delicious and would recommend each dish to future patrons. We also ordered pudding, the highlight was the chocolate brownie which was nice and gooey which delighted my daughter who likes her brownie exactly like this.Overall a great experience made better by the cost coming down with the government scheme but saying that, the prices were not bad without the discount representing good value.

Customer service where is it? Couldn’t be more miserable if they tried. As for the fish and chips the chips were just about edible. Will not be returning and will be going to my usual one on Minehead seafront

Absolutely love these chips! Very friendly staff, though there may be a question this is because they are sooo delicious and worth the wait! Family visit us just to be able to have the fish and chips!!! Not to see us 🤣
