obviously get their trade due to the location. rude disinterested landlady. no interaction at all and just stares at her phone. we gave it one last try after 3 or 4 visits but never again. If this bar was in any other location, very few would return. far better places to enjoy a drink in RHB. Such a shame.

Great bar in Picturesque Robin Hoods Bay at the bottom of the hill near the beach. We stopped for a drink a couple of times. Great drinks, dog friendly and always someone happy to chat. We had dinner one night with our family and two dogs. Food was delicious, pepperoni pizza and chorizo burger highly recommended. You must visit if you are in the area.

Mid week visit to this little bar near the sea. Delicious pizzas with a proper homemade base, and home made burger. Served very quickly. Good pint as well. Recommended, but you will probably need to book at busy weekends…

Lively little pub, busy, had to book a table for evening, pizzas or burgers, pizzas looked really good and people coming in to collect takeaway, but we went for the chorizo burgers which were amazing, homemade burger as they should be, yummy

Really chatty friendly people and as its small it's easy to get chatting to people. Loved the pizzas and the beer. Dog friendly as well.

Really unique cosy bar ( eg toilets - very clean - are outside). Local ales, lovely pizzas and burgers accompanied by great rock ( not too loud ) music.

Stayed in RHB for a long weekend with our two dogs and we went in here twice. Friendly lady serving who treated our dogs to some fresh chicken on both occasions. Intimate place so it’s easy to get chatting to other customers if you’re sociable. The first time we went in most customers were having pizzas and they looked fab. We’d booked to go out for dinner but will definitely try them next time.

Pros A lovely little pub. Cons. Attitude and customer facing skills of the young lady serving on our visit was appalling. Surely the elders who were sat at the side of the bar and playing some sort of game on a tablet with said bar person can see this! (These 2 ladies who probably owned the establishment) The draught real ale was not good. Over £14 spent for 1 ½ pints of a Guinness alternative and a pint of not so well kept real ale. Avoid! There must be other establishments that are more welcoming and appreciative of your custom and look after their real ale better.

It was an odd visit. Rugby was on, quite a few people in. There was a member of staff wandering round on a personal call for half the time and later another watching something on an ipad sat right next to a table that had booked for food. It's a tiny place downstairs so these things set the vibe which was a bit of a shame. Burgers were off so think it was just pizzas available thos weekend but they did look good. Been in before and it was candlelit and cosy, just not today.

We ate last night at Smugglers, what a fabulous atmosphere the place was buzzing. We had lovely wines and delicious pizzas. The staff were very good. We were a table of eight and all homeowners in the Bay and are delighted we have another place to eat . 👍

Lovely place, reasonable food, horrible owner... ssriously the worst attitude for a hospitality owner, like a female Basil Fawlty on a bad day,...vote with your feet and eat elsewhere, trust me.

We found the staff and other pub goers very friendly . It’s lovely location and really nice ambience. Pizzas looked tasty!

Myself and my family (4 adults / 2 children) entered the premises on 23rd December to be told that under 18s were not allowed in the establishment and consequently had to leave before even ordering a drink. Funny that the following day, we saw a family inside having food and drinks! Always heard that the staff and management can be ‘funny & off’ with people - seems all too true. Needless to say we will not be returning ever again when we come back to the bay and our custom is reserved for the Bay Hotel - a much more friendly, warm and ambient atmosphere to say the least. There’s a reason why the Bay hotel is always busy with the Smugglers Inn very much of in the literal shadow of its bigger and better counterpart. Your loss is their gain!

Dont reply on opening times. Tried to get a takeaway tonight with the opening be advertised as open till 11pm and takeaway available till 9pm to get there at 8.15pm and be told they’re closed. Anyone’s who has visited Robin hoods bay this time of year will know it’s remote, delivered aren’t available and there’s no other options for a takeaway so to advertise wrongly makes it very difficult for holiday goers.

Despite their sign clearly stating that takeaways were available until 2100, we walked in at 1950 only to be told they were closed. Purposely waited to have tea from smugglers, only to be seriously disappointed. Nowhere near good enough from a professional standpoint.

Oh dear what have they done to this once quirky and cozy pub. The bar, which used to be on your left as you walked in has been removed and placed in the far right corner. The barrels for tables have gone from inside, the tucked away booths and intimate corners are no longer there, along with other subtle features which made Smugglers so unique 🤦‍♂️Replaced by rows of tables and long benches, everything on one level. The place now resembles a school dinner hall. A member of staff told me the rearrangement enabled the staff to " see what was going on better" ... eh ??😳 A lot of character and charm has been lost 😥.. I hope they realise the error of this 'refurb' and put everything back as it was. The pizza was good and the staff pleasant.... but just not the same appeal.... so sad 😞

The place looks nice but the beer is terrible. Some of the colours of the beers are very odd. Really poor taste too, I’m all for trying new beers but I have learnt my lesson now as this was my second visit. Every pub should have a nice blonde beer, farmers blonde is a great pint served up the road at the Victoria. A decent lager, a good IPA and maybe a good stout. I couldn’t find any of these. On a side note, they are very anti kids. A man was told his kids had to leave after just popping in to join him after a visit to the beach. It’s was only 5pm in the kids summer holidays ! I won’t be going back

Lovely place to visit , we only had drinks but the food looked and smelt amazing. Candlelight atmosphere was very nice , if in the area a must to pop in.

Very rude staff, particularly one young lady! She definitely needs to learn how to speak to customers in the correct manner rather than the attitude she displayed to us. Also the drinks we had tasted horrible, they had a matalic taste and wasn't drinkable at all. Even my husband turned his pint down (which was a shock because he loves his real ales) it was warm, and undrinkable! It's a shame because the pub is lovely inside.

After a long walk from Scarborough we had a fantastic evening in the Smugglers. We had loads of the guest ales and even had a Eurovision party. The 2 ladies on were fantastic and I can highly recommend the chicken and garlic pizza. Overall the evening made our weekend. Thank you ❤️

Many of the negative reviews for Smugglers mentions the fact that this is an over 18's only establishment and that this is somehow a detrimental factor. Having been in Smugglers and experienced the atmospheric surroundings, sumptuous mood lighting and its characterful interiors, the lack of children screaming the place down shattering that peaceful atmosphere made visiting this bar an absolute joy. Child-free establishments should be far more prevalent than what they are currently, and this is the sole reason why I sought to have food and drink at Smugglers.Robin Hood's Bay is a busy place and there are a few other pubs to visit nearby, but by far the most relaxing and romantic is Smugglers. Bramblewick's across the road serve lovely food, but we didn't fancy paying in excess of £100 for a meal that could be completely disrupted by screaming, unruly kids.The menu at Smugglers is simple - it's essentially a pizzeria, but what they do offer is delivered exceptionally well. The pizzas are large, tasty and well presented and the service we experienced was second to none. You will need to book well in advance in order to get into Smugglers, and judging from the food we had at our visit, it's easy to understand why.The night we visited Smugglers, the heavens opened and taxis were fully booked, leaving us with a potentially soggy mile walk back to our accommodation. The owners were so kind to offer us a lift back to Thorpe Hall, preventing us from getting soaked, which was completely unexpected and very kind. This is indicative of a well run, empathetic establishment with fantastic service. The waiting staff were also fully COVID-19 compliant and enforced the rules fairly and professionally.Book in advance to visit Robin Hood Bay's best bar! Oh, and leave your kids at home.

Smugglers serves largely pizzas and to my mind that isn't really a bistro, it's a pizzeria and additionally it's rather overpriced, we paid what you'd expect to pay in London for both food and drinks. Disappointing.

Spent the evening at the Smugglers wine bar this evening and had a wonderful time. It’s a truly enchanting little bar with candles, cosy fairy lights and flickering oil lamp type lighting. Arrived on time at 6:30, welcome was clear and safe. The candlelight created a nice atmosphere, complimenting the name and it wasn’t difficult to imagine you could be up to no good trying to avoid taxes and duty.Pizza’s were better than average and with plenty of mozzarella. Going for the spicy option I was left disappointed as it wasn’t very fiery.My only concern was the absence of hot running water in the restroom to wash my hands properly.

We went during Covid in September 2020. The menu I a m guessing ws reatly reduced as you might expect (certainly none of the steaks and shellfish shown in pictures others have posted) and was a selection of stone baked pizzas and pizzettas and some slight variations. Despite this we were very happy as our pizzas were very good.The bar itself is on 2 levels. When we were there the downstairs was for food and the upstairs for drinks . It is small, dark and atmospheric, and has a lovely cosy feel.

My friend turned 40 and one of her things to do was visit the Smugglers. Having 3 children she had never been able to go in before but not having them with her gave us a great opportunity to visit. We were turned away....very disappointed to say the least. The rules are 6 there were only 5 of us.

My wife and I recently visited Smugglers Wine Bar for an evening meal and drinks. The restaurant was cosy, comfortable, and relaxing and the stone baked pizzas we ordered were delicious. The restaurant is small, but is quirky and has tonnes of character. We thoroughly enjoyed our candle-lit dinner for two and would recommend to couples and small parties looking for a chilled atmosphere and good food.

Called in for a drink saturday of the August bank holiday weekend. There were four of us. Just to say we were very grateful to get a table as we know there is a limit due to covid. We know the rules as we run a business ourselves. The lady who was serving informed my husband, quite abruptly, that he couldn't sit on the stone fire place. He accepted that he shouldn't have sat there in the first place so got straight up to move. He literally stood up to move the table to squeeze into the seat only to get another ticking off for standing up. Not allowed to stand during covid. My husband isn't a magician. I think You need to lighten up a little. This is not the first time we have visited but it was the last. You are all so miserable which causes an uncomfortable atmosphere. Not the right attitude for running a bar.
