The food was plentiful , and generous portions and we were all made very welcome , the staff were very helpful and made us feel looked after . There could have been a few more vegetarian options and sadly we had to leave chips as there was really too many , but we had a lovely time .

We have tried this restaurant many of times, just to see if it’s changed over the years and it hasn’t at all. The place over all is very run down, there was water leak on the walls, the booth chairs were falling apart, my son had all black bits on his hands, toilets were freezing and dark, changing my babies nappy in there was horrible. Most staff are friendly, there is a few waitresses who were rude and didn’t really smile. Unfortunately the food isn’t nice, we have tried many things on the menu over the years, burgers were tasteless, the pulled pork tasted like tomato sauce? And very chewy. The surf & turf, spot the prawns! Chicken burger just tasted burnt, only thing that is nice is the chips. My son’s hot dog weren’t nice either and he couldn’t even eat it. Overall this place is very overrated, I don’t like doing bad reviews but i don’t want people to waste there money in somewhere like this, I’d rather go to Zak’s down the road, cheaper and definitely tastier! Definitely don’t recommend!

Don't bother going as they can't be bothered. Little point in advertising outside that you are open until 8pm on a Sunday and turning customers away at 7.05pm. We won't be back.

This place is simply superb. Food was amazingly good, service was top notch and we couldn't have asked for better. My wife and I chose to go here at the last minute, and from the phone call asking about tables, we were treated so well by them. When we arrived, the hostess continued to give us fantastic service. She was bright, bubbly, cheery and attentive. Nothing was too much of a hassle and she was more than happy to have a laugh with us. Our food was ordered and came out in great time and holy heck. The portions were HUGE for the price we paid. My wife had a sirloin and I had a rodeo burger and garlic mushrooms. What I was NOT prepared for was the sheer fullness of the plate. Everything was cooked to perfection, there was so much we just couldn't eat it all! Props to the chefs and the front of house staff, especially the hostess on the 2nd August. Great service, superb food, we're so happy we came here on a whim. We'll be back!

This is our 2nd recent visit to Smokey Joes. I just love it there. Food is really good, wide choice for vegetarians, gluten free and meat eaters alike. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere and music are brilliant. Ps There is plenty of parking

Avoid! I’ve been wanting to try this place for years and never quite got to it. Finally swung in for an impromptu visit and wish I hadn’t bothered. A long wait to take our order, then a longer wait to clear the table and an even longer wait for our desert order. Only one poor girl working the floor and she was doing her best. Cutlery was filthy with spoons looking like they’d been used to scrape out a dog food bowl. Will not be returning. Such a shame because the food was pretty decent.

i came into smokey joes today for a meal and it was honestly delicious!! had a meat feast, food was all amazing!! ribs were especially good<3 very very good customer care food came very fast.

I have just had a meal at Smokie Joe's with my family. It was a really nice restaurant and a lovely waiter who was really friendly and helpful. The food was really good and nicely presented and enjoyed by us all. My chili was excellent, the best I've ever had. I would recommend and will be back.

Food was served hot and the wait wasn’t too long. Sadly the burger buns were past their best, (dry and stale) the steak was gristly, but the curly fries were really nice! Overall was disappointed in the quality of food vs the price. The service was ok, a polite young girl served us, the booths are a great idea until a family sit behind you and constantly keep banging against the back of your seat, it gets annoying really quickly! Would probably grab food from there if nothing else open in the area, but definitely not a ‘special occasion’ type setting.

I’m sorry to write a bad review but this place has the potential to be SO much better! Firstly it needs a really good clean, to say the least, even the Storm Trooper as you walk in the front door has food (?) on it, The place is dingy and grubby looking. The plastic/glass divides up around the seating is covered in smudges and greasy handprints, the little booth we were sat in had grease and food all up the wall and it felt like we were sitting in a grubby bus shelter! I felt sorry for the young girl who had greeted us with a lovely smile and lead us to our table, she was very friendly and polite and was actually the only member of staff I saw the whole time we were there, not that we stayed long! There was no atmosphere. We didn’t even order we got up and left.

The worst meal I have EVER had bar none! Please read my other reviews, I am not one to complain you’ll see. We went here for my daughters 18th birthday and the place was filthy. Floor covered in food from previous guests, place is in desperate need of redecorating but the worst part was my partner found a four inch long piece of thin wire in his burger and it got stuck in the back of his throat and he had to pull it out!!! The management blamed their butchers and reduced the bill a little bit. Hardly gave a stuff how dangerous the situation it was. It absolutely ruined my daughter’s 18th birthday meal, none of us dare eat anything else and we left immediately. I myself was in tears because I chose the place unaware how awful it would be. Dreadful. Go to The Smoke House in Ormsby instead it’s amazing!

Ordered last weekend for a,family birthday and have to say everything was perfect from the service given the prompt delivery and the the food was amazing great portions sizes everything was delivered piping hot and we live in harleston so this is not always the case from many other delivery companies . Would highly recommend and cant wait to visit now too. Definatly be ordering again. Thank you for a great birthday meal

Had a whole takeaway order cost us nearly £80 and chips were over cooked, food was cold, burger had no salad and no sauce, rice was watery, enchilada was watery, chilli con carne was everywhere in the bag and so was the rib sauce. Honestly not worth it, we couldn’t finish the food cause it was so bad.

Having eaten in the restaurant a few times, we have always enjoyed the food. In current times we ordered a take away from here. Unfortunately we were left a bit shocked at the portion size. The burger was lacking cheese and taste. The extremely small pot of bbq beans and the few fries were a big let down. However this did not reflect in the price... such a shame. They were however accurate with time slot for delivery. Up the portion size to what it normally would be in the restaurant please.

Ordered a takeaway for a Friday evening and glad we did. Easy to order by phone and pay, food brought straight to the car. Our meals were tasty and generously sized, can recommend the wings! Really good also to support local businesses. Would recommend and will order again, and hope to visit for the eat in experience also.

Viewing the website before visiting I was expecting some sort of TGI Fridays experience but I was sadly disappointed. Putting a nod to an American flag on the old pub sign does not an American diner make!Allowing for the social distancing barriers between tables the whole place lacked any real atmosphere and whilst the actual service was quite good none of the staff displayed much enthusiasm.My partners ordered a Sloppy Joe Burger which she thoroughly enjoyed, well cooked and with a sizeable portion of fries, salad and coleslaw. On the flip side I ordered the Texas Combo, this being a full rack of ribs with a boneless breast of southern fried chicken. Can’t fault the size of the portions and both perfectly edible but both overcooked for my liking. Surely southern fried chicken should be juicy and succulent? Mine certainly wasn’t.

All staff were lovely. The food was the best I have had in a while and can not wait to return and also reasonably priced. 😊

We have picky teens and have a hard time finding restaurants we all like. So happy to find a local restaurant that everyone had a great meal. Staff very friendly and helpful. In these difficult times felt very safe. Would highly recommend if you want a reasonably priced meal that everyone will love.

Masses of choice, great food and family friendly . Family of 4 ate here tonight 2 adults, a 14 and a 9 year old - all had great meals. Starters were a sharing platter of wings for 2, Jalapeño poppers and Breaded Mushrooms. Main meals were 2 burgers, one NY steak and one Ribs. Everyone loved their food, generous portions, great taste. Service was friendly and helpful. Restaurant was covid compliant - visible hand sanitisers, good spacing between tables and social distancing maintained by staff.

Had takeaway from there last night. Had the Rodeo burger and chips. Was really nice with tasty BBQ sauce. Cooked well, hot and fresh. Would definitely order another meal from there again.

We visited as a party of 6 adults and 1 child, and we all left with full tummies. The food was delicious and great portion size. The staff are lovely and friendly. There are hand sanitiser stations all around, and the divides fit perfectly with the layout of the restaurant. Excellent value for money and the cocktails are very generous. Due to the world being shut down my partner and I ended up cancelling our wedding. On the "wedding day" we decided to lift our spirits we would go for a lovely day out. after visiting an assortment of pubs and zoos, we ended up at Smokey Joes. The food was lovely and the staff where very informative and attentive, excellent social distancing and safe implementation of facilities. The toilet has a light that shows you if its vacant or not (i know the owner was very proud of this feature! and should be!) In any case we originally booked for 7pm but had grumbly tummies so moved the reservation to around 5pm. After leaving we received a text from one of the owners, asking where we were. I said we ate and left and had a lovely evening thank you... They then said "but your balloons!" little did we know after finding out about our cancelled wedding they went the extra mile and bought us balloons to celebrate! what's more... the next morning they literally went the extra two miles and delivered them to our door! These people are in it for the PEOPLE. 100% recommend, brilliant staff. Brilliant food. and out of this world service. Thank you team! You made our day. <3

The service was very good, it was quite when we visited, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the ribs were melt in the mouth, only had mains as we were stuffed the portions sizes were very generous, they served very tasty cocktails It was a little expensive but well worth it for a treat

The waiters and waitresses are lovely and I have no complaints about THEIR customer service. However,, the owners pay the staff very little and they are rude to their staff infront of customers. The atmosphere is very tense and uncomfortable.The food is in great quantity, BUT the quality is the same as Wetherspoons (adequate) but for the same price as The Ritz.Been twice, hoping that the first time was just a one-off... But no.I have two friends that have worked there and were treated very poorly by owners.

Myself, my wife and my two young children ate dinner here recently. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and also very child friendly. The children’s meals were great value and really quite large. The tata tots were a big hit with the kids. My wife and I both had burgers and again these were certainly not lacking in size or taste. The fries and curly fries were also lovely and light and crispy.All in all a great first visit and great value for money

We each had a blue cheese burger(yum yum yum)which are 8 oz 100% beef, my wife had chips, salad and garlic mushrooms,I had "tatter tots" (like small hash browns)and onion rings all washed down with a nice beer.The service/food was great well done smokey Joe's....We will be back

We were in the restaurant at the same time as one of your reviews. We had great food and brilliant service there on our first visit. We also had a very disrupted meal by the family with three children with the constant screaming and children being allowed to wander in and out of the eating area. The staff handled the disruption and rudeness from this table very well. I watched the waitress ask for dessert orders 3 times. What a shame that our first experience was lessened by other people's children! We did return a few weeks later for my son's 18th birthday with a party of 12 and we had brilliant food and impeccable service. We will definitely be returning. Thank you very much for making the occasion very special with the decorations and balloons.

Me and my partner and also family have visited this restaurant a few times now, and every time we come away talking about how amazing the food and service is. Everyone who works here is very friendly and helpful, the food tastes amazing, there is a big selection and the portions are great too!, I’ve been telling everyone I’ve spoken to that they need to visit here. I’m trying to decide what was worse, the food or the customer service! Both absolutely disgusting and given we are very local, we will not be returning and advising others to do the same.

Came to Smokey Joe's for a family meal including 3 children under 3. The beef burgers tasted like greasy fat and there were rude customers and rude staff. Nearly every table had children bar 2 and the tables without children were complaining the whole time we were there about the noise. The staff were basically encouraging their behaviour! Absolutely disgusted and will not return again. A warning to others with children not to go.

We went for my sons 21st Birthday. Despite telling them this when I booked they did nothing for him which disappointed me as other restaurants would have.The meal was a bit disappointing as three of us had burgers which were over cooked and dry. Mine had Chilli it but it was bland and didn’t have much taste to it. They did take 10% of burgers as a gesture (£3) All in all we could have got the same quality at Weatherspoons at half the Price.

First & certainly not last visit! My husband had the rib eyesteak & he said it the best steak he ever had! I had a burger & it was delicious, sadly we were too full up to have a desert, the staff were very young but polite, looking forward to going again sometime in the future

As usual a very good meal from Smokey Joes; we tried the new takeaway option and were pleasantly surprised that the eat-in meal is replicated perfectly! 2 Chimichangas (with a great portion of dips, rice and the extra curly fries) ready to collect in about 20 minutes on a busy Friday night - cannot fault that, faster than a 'conventional' takeaway! Food well labelled, cooked to perfection. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must - both for the eat in and takeaway. 5*!

This was my second visit to Smokey Joe's, this time as part of a party of 5. Nice relaxed and unrushed service but with real attention to customers. Food was lovely - I tried the Vegan burger which is apparently new to their menu but was really tasty, and all our meals were good portion sizes. Definitely will be returning again.

fantastic food as always, all members of the party had burgers (rodeo and pulled pork) and they were amazing, moist and full of flavour. Every time I visit I aim to have a dessert, but as the portions are so big I always end up too full - so this time I had a couple of cocktails instead which slipped down a treat and were delicious. Really can’t fathom out how anyone can fault Smokey’s (looking at the previous review) as the food is delicious, staff are fantastic and friendly and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the massive size portions xx

We have been here several times and it never disappoints, super 5 and an excellent host who make’s sure you have a good meal. And oh my the freak shake..... in the words of my daughter”the best milk shake she’s ever had!”

Called on the offchance and were fortunate enough to get a table. Very friendly welcome to a nice place, and our drinks order was taken promptly while we looked at the menu. There was a great choice but we had already decided on surf and turf burgers based on a friends delicious looking photos on Facebook from the day before. We were not disappointed...the burgers were very generous and cooked well,with plenty of prawns and sauce. A unexpected bonus was how tasty the sweet potato fries and coleslaw were too. My partner doubled up his burger and for the first time EVER left a restaurant unable to finish the whole meal! Food and cocktail was great,prices reasonable and the staff so friendly and chatty, what more could you want? Thanks again and see you soon :)

We have been looking forward to visiting this place for a while now, and after the Earsham Hall Xmas evening we were hungry and it seemed the perfect time to call in.

Tried here for a family meal - the service was efficient, helpful & very friendly - there is a great friendly atmosphere. The order was taken swiftly and the food arrived in good time. My husband likes very hot chilli and was very impressed with his "Chilli Burger" - the chef cooked it especially hot and then came to ask if he was OK with it. There is a varied menu including burgers, chicken, mexican & vegetarian and a great choice of desserts too. We will be returning before too long.

Great atmosphere, fast service and large portions. Lots to choose on the menu. Vegetarian options are limited, but available. Not suitable for vegans. The burger I ordered was a little bland, but we otherwise had a great evening.

After hearing good reviews we popped in for a late lunch/early dinner with the family on the way home from Ipswich and we were not disappointed.

We were taken to this restaurant by some friends we were staying with, which upon arrival was a little surprising to be found in the middle of the countryside as opposed to some inner city high street. Outside it appears to be an old pub which on this night had an apology notice outside ,due to being sold out and unable to accept any more diners. Upon entering we were greeted by one of the many friendly and helpful members of staff ,and shown to our booked table something our friends had done for us. The choice of menu was excellent as was the food and drinks, and very reasonably priced for the quality. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for something a little different if you are in the area.

Glad we booked as the place was full! Our first visit and came highly recommended. We had a mixture of items from the extensive menu: burger, mexican and grill. All well presented and very generous portions. Good red wine. 2 of us managed dessert which again was a generous slice of key lime pie well presented.

Returned to Smokey Joe's on a Saturday afternoon whim. Glad we did. Another top notch Mexican meal. Enchiladas don't get better!

Big portions and a nice selection of regional beers by an owner who knows what he is taking about. Lots of Americans road trip memorabilia too. Friendly service.

Booked a table for three last minute and they were very friendly and accommodating. We all ate starters and burgers/chicken for mains and they were absolutely delicious, and the portion sizes plentiful. I can easily say it was the best burger I’ve ever had, made with 100% steak, it was tasty, moist and cooked to perfection. All staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Me and my partner go here every few months she is very funny when it comes to hygiene, but the cutlery is always spotless and the toilets ect are to, the food is allways consistent the owner always make time to have a chat and make sure everythings ok, the staff are always friendly and it doesn't cost you the earth, well worth a visit.

We’ve visited here this evening after deciding to give it a go over Zak’s and wanted to try somewhere different but with the same kind of food.

This restaurant is a nice place and the food is lovely. The staff are polite and friendly. There is just one thing that is not so good, every time we've eaten here, they clear the tables as quick as they can. No member of staff asks at the end of the meal '' can i get anything else for anyone''. Such a shame because when in a large party, people are always up for another drink. But instead its all staff disappear and kind of ignore you so you feel its time to go. Such a shame really, as food is tasty. Does put you of a bit.

We went here on a Saturday night for my wife’s birthday as I thought we would try somewhere different.The burgers were very nice but the rack of ribs were a bit dry and bland & the fries ( curly,sweet potato and normal) were probably from the local freezer shop.The side orders of garlic mushrooms (supermarket freezer aisle) and 4 onion rings were small in quantity for the price.The desserts were very nice especially the key lime pie.The place is decorated in an American diner style with juke box and instruments on the walls mingled in with Elvis and Buddy holly vinyl records and old 50s signs but we could barely hear the jukebox which was playing queen and George Michael , not any rock and roll to add to the American diner authenticity. In all , it was a disappointing evening out and we won’t be coming back for seconds any time soon.

Very surprised, service was 1st Class, food was very good and portion size generous. I would give it 4.5 out of 5. If only the Coleslaw and salsa were homemade, then 5/5.

Called into Smokey Joe's as we were passing by and so glad we did, the atmosphere is great with very friendly and helpfull staff and the food is amazing with huge portions! Will definitely be visiting again as its the best food around by a long way! I had the chilli and bacon burger and my partner had the cheese and bacon burger and we both had the sweet potato fries and coleslaw and everything was delicious!! Would highly recommend

It was our first visit but won't be our last. Very child friendly with goodie bags filled with games, crayons and a little puzzle book. This is a warm, welcoming place and the staff are lovely. The food is typically American with chilli dogs, burgers, mac n cheese etc. Fine for the vegetarians in our party who said the mac n cheese was lovely.. Quite large meals and they are nice and hot too.

We had travelled past Smokey Joe's at Ditchingham many, many times, and never stopped to visit. On Sunday we did, and immediately regretted that we had never visited before. It really does the quintessential authentic American Diner style exceptionally well. The burgers were really excellent, A decent size; nicely cooked and served with a generous portion of fries. Great selection of sweets and drinks at extremely competitive prices. And the staff were friendly; superbly efficient and just a pleasure to be with. I cannot praise this place highly enough

Despite not booking, we were found a table and there were 12 of us! The restaurant was busy too so we all aporeciated that very much. I'm not a huge fan of American diners but the food was lovely and fresh and we were all served together. Not one complaint and the children loved the Dragon to colour (kept them occupied) and I loved the milkshakes. I would recommend Smoky Joe's. The customer service was exceptional and the food and surroundings were lovely.

My wife and I enjoyed yet another amazing meal here. As always, the owner and his staff are very friendly and the food tasted great. Once again, we were both defeated by how filling the meals were, so were unable to force a dessert down us! Looking forward to visiting again.

Food is what you would expect from an American diner with the added bonus of homemade burgers etc.its a relaxed place with friendly staff.

The food is top top notch, good value & it's really nice to be able to eat in an independent chain free restaurant! Burgers amazing & if you still have space for dessert do try the Key Lime Pie! 4 adults, 5 children and a baby went for lunch today. Service was efficient, friendly and prompt. The owner/ manager made sure we were ok and provided connect 4 for the children which was a lovely touch. Only downer for us was the price of the bug juice and it wasn't overly clear which drinks were included with the children's meals. The portions were big and children enjoyed their meals. The sharing platter wings and dips were plentiful and well cooked. C and b burger good quality and plentiful and the 1lb burger was a welcome challenge for the men. Too full for puddings but the children enjoyed theirs and the menu choice was good. Hubby was particularly pleased to see ghost ship on tap. A lovely relaxed family meal with high quality food and good value for money. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you

Went here for a friends birthday treat, pleasantly surprised, very friendly staff, extensive menu to choose from, we all ordered differently, even though very busy for midweek we didn't wait long, lots of very full bellies, very enjoyable and reasonably priced. Will return.

I have tried to book us in here a few times before but it was usually last minute so not surprisingly no tables available. However, may latest attempt last week was successful and we thought we'd try this over our usual Zaks.
