SMOKE Barbecue in Sheffield

We didn’t have a huge amount of time as we had to get to the theatre, but Emily was great and made sure our food was pacey but equally that we didn’t feel that we were being rushed through. Food was nice but huge portions for adults. Kids portions were good and we had a nice time.

Pasaron 15 minutos y parecía que habían olvidado que estábamos allí, así que tuve que preguntar a un servidor si podíamos ordenar. Ella no se disculpó... dos hombres que vinieron 10 minutos después de que nosotros teníamos su comida en la mesa antes incluso de que hubiéramos pedido comida. Así que mientras que la comida era muy agradable, el mal servicio era el poco que recordaremos...

Con un nombre como 'Barbacoa de humo' uno presumiría que la comida está ahumada. Tonto yo, en su lugar se obtiene carne seca cocinada en horno que posiblemente ver un fumador durante unos minutos. Muy lejos de las jugosas carnes húmedas que se caen del hueso que encontrarías en un verdadero ahumadero.

Absolutely terrible food chicken full of fat and bland . Had beef it was full of fat Tacos were lovely staff need a personality transplant very miserable will not be returning.

Chicken very dry, ribs even dryer. Burnt end not burnt but slathered in bbq. I feel this is a gimick bbq restaurant that doesn’t really know how to do bbq. Service good though.

Their homemade sauces are incredible!!!

Excellent food, excellent service

We ordered on deliveroo for a takeaway. The food was inedible and went in the bin. What a waste of £56. The brisket was so dry, i could hardly chew it, the burnt ends were that dry and overdone, i couldn't even cut it. My partner had the chilli hotdog said it was disgusting and was nothing like a hotdog.

Was looking forward to this with what I've read but very disappointed, asked for a pint of neck oil to be told they dont have any, it's some other version, they brought me a fun size can of whatever it was, i swapped it for a coke, wife asked for a wine glass with her wine to be told all wine glasses are out and she could have a flute or a mug, a mug of wine isn't very classy. Ordered the beef ribs that came and was OK but very greasy, onion strings started ok then turned to a bowl of grease with onion strings mashed in there, chips were nice, then the dreaded hair, eating a price of beef then pulled it out, not good, then a waiter rocked up with 3 espresso cocktails, told them it was the wrong table and asked for the bill, had to get them back to adjust the bill as they had charged me for the espresso cocktails we never ordered. We wanted to like this place but I'm afraid it was a bad experience so won't be back im afraid. On a plus note the atmosphere was very relaxing and rustic.

The service was friendly, but otherwise very average. The barbecue sounded good, but was also average. The ham hock was dry and salty with lots of gristle. I had the spicy double burger, which was like two very thin, dry burgers stuck together with cheese. It was awful and tasted like cheap frozen burgers. I was assured that the burgers are made fresh, but hmmm… bad recipe? If you take a moment to look at the reviews, there is a recurring complaint about the meat being dry, which is never a good sign in respect of the food preparation - especially meat! The whole experience was that of a modern American-style restaurant with a focus on the vibe, but very little passion for the food. Adding insult to injury, they automatically add a 15% discretionary service charge to your bill.

The food is good but if you prefer less greasy and more healthy options then may be you should choose a different place. Staff were friendly and accommodating our guest special dietary needs.

Chilly hot dog and loaded chilly fries was excellent. Highly recommend. Huge portions, good atmosphere.

Very nice smoked meat at fair prices. Unfortunately the grill was broken but the smoker was great. Friendly staff. Worth a visit!!

We have been plenty of times to Smoke and I'd have always have rated it as 4/5 but were left a bit underwhelmed by today's visit. The service was quite slow - it took 15 minutes until our order was taken. The staff were a little inattentive at times - heads down and not really noticing when you needed something. When our food arrived, several items were cold. The ribs were so spicy they gave me hiccups to the extent I felt they needed a warning on them. I NEVER complain in restaurants but did on this occasion - I only complained about the temperature of the food as I felt I must have made a poor menu choice. The staff were good about this (but it took a bit of time to get their attention and noone had come round to ask how our food was). They gave me a fresh plate of food within five minutes that was steaming hot - and these ribs were not at all spicy so I was left wondering if I had been served the wrong item the first time. When we ordered, no burgers were being served which threw us a little bit as we had our three year old with us and that had been the most suitable item on the kids menu for her. However, they were good at accommodating my request to give her a hot dog instead when only sausage was on the kids menu so I appreciated this. On another note, the disabled loo is starting to look in need of some maintenance (though this isn't unusual in lots of places we go). We had a nice visit overall - but just felt things could have been a little better.

I pre-booked for a works christmas party meal, we had pre-booked months in advanced for 39 people. We arrived on time to tables not available, we had pre-ordered our food and ended up waiting 1hr 20mins before the food was served. My party was very unhappy with this late service as we spent nearly £900 . We will think twice if we are going to visit as a large group I don't think they can handle a large booking.

The decor and the place are 5 star but some basic things really let it down. Staff don’t bring salt pepper or sauces until after food No second drinks offered and wait time for drinks is crazy. It wasn’t busy yet I ate half my food whilst 3 trays of drinks sat waiting on the bar. Bit sad really as I thought I’d be in love with the place from the outside and heading to my table but it simply failed to do anything but disappoint. Food was ok service poor

Booked a place for over 30 customers. Nothing had been prepared. Had to wait literally 1hr for food. At least the toilets were clean.

The industrial chic atmosphere and cheerful staff are a good start but my brisket was dry and had little flavour. It is hard to recommend a barbecue restaurant which has mediocre meat.

Some of the best American BBQ I have had the chance to eat. Got the pit plate consisting of the pulled pork and brisket plate alongside the pork belly ends. The pork belly ends and brisket were genuinely amazing with a rich complexity of flavour and the glaze was top quality. It was sweet and savoury pairing excellently with the crispy skin on fries.

My first time here with friends who are regulars. Service was very good, quick efficient and friendly. The food was spot on. I had the brisket which just fell apart. Others had the belly pork and burger. All the food was a hit and the portions huge. Washed down with a few decent pints made for a decent experience.

Food was very nice, my wife is a vegetarian and her dietary choices were more than adequate. Atmosphere was just a little too loud for my liking but food and staff were amazing.

Absolutely shocking. Booked for a bottomless brunch in October turn up to be told it’s not on. Won’t honour it. Terrible service no manager on site. Absolutely disgusting.

Me and my brother tried the delivery option last week, and I have say, the service was excellent, ordered online on the Monday and the food arrived Wednesday, we went for Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs and the Pit fired Chicken. All just as good as the restaurant version. Our favourite as we both agreed were the ribs, juicy, succulent and full of flavour, the pulled pork was very good too, and we enjoyed the chicken, there was even enough left of the pork and chicken that I made sandwich’s for the next 2 days! I haven’t been down to the Restaurant for a few years, but I will be heading down there in the New Yeat. Richard

Great selection of meat! If your into meat then this is the place to go. My only complaint is that the sharer we were told serves 2-3 people, we ordered this plus a main, and it was huge! We couldn't finish it. I'd say served more like 4 people with normal portion size. Felt a bit uncomfortable that evening! Great staff though, clean and rest rooms were well kept.

Taste wise it was ok, but the beef rib meat was dry like it was old and a bit tough. Staff were great but needs a better chef my companions seemed happier with their meals so maybe it was that one dish can't say for sure not going to actively return but wouldn't rule it off.

Food definitely not freshly cooked to order. Very quickly served 11 meals in 10 mins or less. Food cold, one meal was uncooked..(pink chicken). Overall felt very rushed. Service was ok. Tentative waiting staff but still felt this was a forced customer service and not staff genuinely wanting to make the experience an enjoyable one. They did remove the meal from the bill that had the raw chicken however. Will not be returning or would recommend.

Visited on our anniversary for a meal. Food was ok but not amazing. Service was friendly but sluggish at time. The place has a few wonky chairs, so me (and people on other tables) were needed to swap around.

Came here last Wednesday. Great food and atmosphere, our waitress ( I think she was called Jess) was great and attentive. Will definitely come here again!

Visited on the 27th October ordered food came chips were creasy onion bits were creasy had to send steak back as asked for well done still bloody inside the not even finished food started taking plates away when I not finished even took the mayonnaise away so didn't finish my food then gets bill not even finished our drinks so will not be going again as we felt rushed into finishing

We have been before the food was good. We where raving about it to our daughter-in-law. When we went on Saturday it came to the table rather too quick, indicating it had been stood too long. The food was dry and wasn't very hot. We mentioned it to they staff he said he was sorry we hadn't enjoy it. The bill came well over £100. I don't think we will be going again. Not even a mention of a reduction in you bill.

My very first visit to smoke BBQ,we had preorder our meals.the service was quick and polite the staff made sure we were all looked after.i thought my burger was reasonable priced and I will return to smoke BBQ in the future

Dine Sheffield started today and I’d been wanting to revisit Smoke. I couldn’t order the Meat platters as they were meant for 2 diners. I was happy to try the Bacon Mac N Cheese Burger with a pint of Smoke lager. A very tasty meal with friendly service. I’d like to drop in again to try the platters.

Good atmosphere and staff were lovely. Food was ok but nothing too special. The pulled pork was good as were the chips but the ribs, burnt ends and chicken we had lacked the depth of flavour I would have expected from having cooked for so long. Not a big fan of their BBQ sauce either - for me I found it a little vinegary.

Casey’s service was fantastic, felt really welcome here and ordered the pulled pork. She was so lovely and made the whole experience that much better. Will definitely be back

Birthday meal out. Great atmosphere. Staff attentive and food was good. Chicken was a little dry but overall the food was really tasty and plentiful! Nice touch by the staff to offer the birthday diner a complimentary birthday cocktail too! Recommend the ribs and pulled pork! Share platters good value too.

If you like prepacked, reheated, dry, grey meat covered in sweet sauce, this place is for you! Brisket and burnt ends were inedible. £21 for that privelage. Smoked sausage possibly the foulest thing ever pulled from a vacuum pack. As others have said, waitress didn't even ask how the meal was, just cleared the plates. Obviously they get told not to ask cause of what would come their way. 'barbecue love' is the tagline apparently. Lol.

Sent the steak back as not cooked enough, didn't eat it in the end as wasn't cooked to my liking, other 3 people with me liked their food, wont be visiting again

Maybe was because i was one of first customers on a Monday but was very disappointed, any way u shouldn't be serving 18h smoked brisket from day before, someone people know what is a fresh cook brisket, anyway the ribs was not alot meat ,the mac and cheese not much flavour, chips where good...

Went for a birthday celebration, the food was very good, really tasty! The decor was great and all the little touches with the tin plates etc, were in keeping with the theme, the drinks were good and the price point also good. The staff were attentive and friendly. The facilities were clean and quirky (taps) What I will say, is they don’t scrimp in portions and if I went again I would choose a smaller dish. I have the build your own, I chose pulled pork and the sausage and couldn’t finish! We shared the Texan toast (insanely good) All in all a great experience, but advise you not to wear your favourite clothes as the gorgeous smoky smell does linger! 😂

Friends and I went for a meal on Saturday evening and 2 out of 3 people from our party (who both ate pork) came down with crippling food poisoning instantly after the meal. Waitress brought an array of random items to the table which weren't ordered and was rude to us when informed of the error. The waitress reread our meals upon ordering so not too sure how my friends meal was completely wrong and random items added to our bill. Had to ask for the bill three times before walking over to the bar. At this point we were all very nauseous from the food poisoning and needed to leave.

Delicious food and lovely staff. Would definitely go back again and I don’t usually eat at the same place twice. Amazing food portions for the price too. Not sure why anyone would spend £££ on miller and carter when you can get nicer and cheaper food from Smoke!

Giving a 4 because the amaretto sour was half lemon juice and I couldn't drink it; However, the lemonade cocktail (can't remember the actual name) was delicious. The service was amazing and the BBQ was yum. Very good value. I recommend the pulled pork hotdog.

Birthday meal out..husbands choice..been a few times and watched the quality and quantity of food go down hill...I had the brisket..the potato cake was the biggest part of the meal..what meat I had was dry and only two burnt ends..!!..macaroni cheese side was dry and tasted like it had been reheated a few times...don't think we'll be back..

We have previously loved coming to Smoke and I'm really surprised at our experience yesterday. First of all our food was OK but not the usual standard we are used to from Smoke. Two sides were forgotten about, at no point did anyone come and ask if everything was OK with our meal, we had to go to to the bar to order our drinks. The place was fairly empty, maybe six tables occupied, however they decided to sit a group of people right behind us, maybe they asked for that particular table but if not it definitely didn't make sense as other larger tables appeared available. The toilets both male and female were filthy, urine on toilet seats and it didn't look like they had been cleaned in quite a while. The chef was busy but also busy scrolling on his phone with gloves on with a phone in one hand and a spatula in another. It just feels the place needs a bit of TLC, a good clean, and maybe the staff to have a refresher course on customer care and how to look presentable when serving food, should staff not have long hair tied up neatly when serving food? . Nobody can tell me they were busy or didn't have enough staff as they were stood around most of the time around the bar area. I fed this back to the manager who did give a discount on our bill ( after I went up to the bar to ask to pay as nobody seemed interested to come over and ask). I honestly feel we could have just walked straight out and nobody would have noticed. Try to do better Smoke.

Went here as wife has wanted to for ages. We chose a build your own platter each, I had Sausage and pork chop, wife had ribs and pulled pork. Saw they came with Coleslaw and asked if it could be swapped and was told no it is what it says. Fair enough. The ribs tasted like they were out of a boil in the bag or something very sloppy and clearly not cooked on a bbq. I ordered a side of brisket hash (£6.50) thinking it would be in a bowl mixed up after reading about it on the menu it sounded lovelybut no was 2 deep-fried cake type things which tasted awful and salty ans overcooked. Pulled pork was tough and dry, as was the pork chop. Food was obviously batch cooked as it was served really fast. Nothing tasted like it had neen bbqed just slathered in bbq sauce. No one asked how our meal was whilst eating, nor when they saw how much we had left. We were just served, then felt like we were ignored. The waitress kept disappearing to use her phone at far end of the restaurant. The table was dirty and sticky with residue all over it. Not in a hurry to return, very expensive for what it was

Me and my fiancée went here for date night, I asked why is it we’ve never discovered this place before? The service was outstanding, food and drinks came out very quickly and they were busy. Food is to die for, we had a meal deal each, and the meat just fell apart it was the best meat I’ve had. Would highly recommend if u haven’t tried before. Milkshakes were really nice too. Great place for families big or small and great place for date night.

Sadly, for me, the food lets this place down. Both the beef rib and the sausage link were dry, the latter with a texture more akin to a spanish chorizo. All moisture of the meats had been removed. I didn't need the wet wipes provided. As i left i tried to look at other tables for and it appeared to be the same. As shame as the fries were light and crispy and the beans nice.

Shared the classic sharer and was delicious, quality meat and beautifully cooked. Plenty of food and variety for 2 people. Very good quality compared to other smoke house style restaurants. Beer selection slightly disappointing, but the food is why you go and well worth a trip, good value too for quality and quantity.

This venue lures you in as you walk by, with the smell of delicious smoked meats surrounding it. While prices might not be the lowest, you’re getting your money’s worth. The portions are generous, so if you’re not starving, you’ll want to ask for some takeout boxes. The ribs are exceptional, and you shouldn’t let any of it go to waste. I also recommend the wings with their original sauces. The chips are also on point.

It's definitely better than a 4/5, so giving 5/5. The food was outstanding, pictures below of the (can't remember name) 'Everything plate' as couldn't pick. Atmosphere good, somehow nailing loud and bustling with chill, wasn't hard to talk, music soft-ish, room volume high but not overpowering. Decore fun, novel take on outside/bbq/lounge/industrial kinda mix. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend. Only bits of critique I did have were the below, but the real concern with either is that on the night we went, (Friday night) they were not full at any point, a few free tables at all times, and on the way there Google said it was less busy than usual, which I can well believe, so not operating at capacity, yet: 1 water glasses brought still warm from glass washer, 2 took a bit of time to get the attention of the waiting staff once we were sat and had made initial order, even for more drinks. Both seem a little odd as should have been busiest and most heavily staffed night, yet not that busy, unless they're cutting staff on the night but at the cost of service? Anyway, only slight, minor issues, not enough to lose a star over, really good meal, delicious food!

My husband recommended this place as he has eaten there before. Whilst not a huge fan of ribs I thought we would give it a try. Menu is a bit limited -strangely there is no standard burger on there- but I really enjoyed the ribs and the sides were excellent. Food arrived very quickly so they clearly have food ready to go. Good option when going to the Lyceum, Crucible or City Hall.

Me and my partner was on our way to cosmo and seen smoke bbq and decided to go there instead. I was very please that we did cause the atmosphere and service was amazing greeted with a smile .now let's talk food wow I had the pulled pork it melted in my mouth and was not over powered by the bbq sauce and the chips was summat esle

Burnt ends were disappointing but the rest of the food was alright. Burnt ends should be cooked in layers of sauce, but the burnt ends here were chunks of plain, flavourless meat, drizzled with some sauce before serving. Tacos were cool. Everything was ok, but I don't think I would eat here again, solely down to the burnt ends.

Year after year I've ordered here for several of us, to take back to the hotel (literally next door) while in town for a convention. Every year the head chef has always been Empathetic and worked something out for a gluten+mustard allergy. This is the first year I was Flat Out Refused to order anything due some silly policy I cannot take the same things I used to back to the hotel next door for the sake of someone's ego on how the food is "presented". I know first hand it won't go cold by the time I get back. I was also accused of lying (why would I come back if I hadn't had a previously good experience??) They close early and everyone can't get there in time. It's just a steak. You're not making it for the King.

Went here last March. The restaurant itself is spacious and bright. The interior is well-planned and they’ve got a high ceiling as well. Lots of tables for diners as well. We ordered their ribeye steak and brisket plate. Both were delicious. The Ribeye steak was medium well and juicy. Tender meat and delicious. However, the Brisket Plate was a bit dry and hard to chew on. ( it was tasty though). Other than that, I’ll still recommend people to try and dine here.

Ordered beef brisket and chicken wings which was very dry and tasteless. The chips tasted cold and dry as well. Was heavily disappointed with the food. Would never recommend this place to anyone again.

We were excited to try the brisket. But it was cold, hard, and not palatable. If a person has ever tried brisket before having this, it would be really disappointing. It was not at all worth the price. The wings, which is the most easiest dish in a barbecue and you guys have unfortunately managed to dry it up. Not at all an american barbeque place. Chip shops do it much better. The place has good vibes but food has been very disappointing.

Disappointing. Meat was dry and not 'BBQed'. Cooking involved opening vacuum packed bags and warmed up. (Sat watching them cook it) Didn't even have the big cooking pit burning. Mac n cheese was nice but if your going for the meats go elsewhere. Toilets disgusting and smelt awful. Should have gone to toilet first because you can always tell a good restaurant by the state of the toilets.

First time visit, ordered sharing big, ribs were cold, these was taken away and replaced, pre packed food was taken out of the fridge, placed on the grill then seasoned and warmed up, wouldn't call this BBQing, table was sticky, toilets need cleaning, over all not a great experience, I won't be going back, I'll visit Asda and purchase the same food and warm it up in the oven. 😪

As with some other reviews, this was a mixed bag. Cannot fault the staff who were friendly and prompt. Each of us went for the plate option. Ribs were great, wings were not. Everything that wasn't chicken was tasty, well seasoned and nice. Beer and cocktails also great. Just avoid any of the chicken options, greasy and bland.

If you love BBQ sauce this is the place, best sauce ever. Can buy it too. All meats unreal, endless flavour. Just go.

Food very bland, no seasoning... Have they even heard of salt? Compared with, say, Smokestak in London, everything is very poor (brisket, mac & cheese, corn. Skin-on-fries were good though.

Very disappointed. Celebrating a birthday. My daughter didn’t get what she ordered, my pulled pork was cold. My husband had the brisket which was dry. The only thing that was spot on were the drinks. The waitress was lovely.

Pleased to be greeted and seated at the BBQ smoke house upon arrival but unfortunately the food was so dry and hardly any meat on the baby back ribs very disappointed especially with the price and what quality was served to me and my partner we have both been sick from this previous meal. With bloated stomachs even hours after food.

Food was pretty good, but the portions were a bit small for the price. The burger is not much bigger than a McDonald's but x5 the price. It was decently tasty. Chips were nice too but definitely tastier and cheaper options out there. The house lager was surprisingly nice though.

Way overcooked bbq not worth it save your money

Had the mixed platter, got wings and shot ribs with tango orange, the tango was the best thing. Completely gutted because I love bbq.

Considering it was a very busy Saturday evening, the service was very good and all staff were all friendly and helpful. The food was very well cooked and tasted delicious and portion sizes were large. The beer jugs are a great idea and went down very well. We booked for a birthday party for our daughter who was very impressed with her complementary birthday cocktail. We will definitely be visiting again. Well done to all staff you were all fantastic.
