Smokd in Newport

This is definitely the best barbecue you will find in this area. Great selection of smoked meats and a good size menu. All the staff are very polite and the service is really good. Definitely didn't come away hungry. You have the option of the meat trays or a wide selection of burgers, the trays are a good size and although this place is more expensive than say TGI fridays the food is much better. I don't mind paying for something that is authentic and not mass market produced and heavily processed. I cant comment on the vegan stuff as thats not my scene. Cocktails are good as well and competitively priced. Excellent really especially the brisket.

Food was good and well made but honestly not worth the expensive price tag. More like an overpriced Fridays than a genuine smoke house.I wanted a selection of smoked meats but it was 50 pound so couldn’t afford, settled for a 22 pound burger that although good was pretty standard these days, especially when beefy boys do it better for a tenner less. Vegan options were lacking and the vegan burger was the most standard out of the packet burger I’ve ever paid for, and came with a ball of rocket and cheese that wasn’t even melted. Overall we paid almost 80 pound for a meal that wasn’t as nice as other new indie chains or even tgi Fridays. Went for my birthday and was disappointed.

Great food - meat tray for 2 or 3 was packed with tender meats and brisket was perfectly cooked. Burgers enjoyed by all with macca cheese. Wide choice of drinks and fantastic, attentive service. Definitely worth a visit.

Seriously underwhelming. Cauliflower wings just tasted like dry, flour-fried cauliflower woth no seasoning. Burger is literally a McPlant knockoff at twice the price and the chips are floppy and badly cooked. Don't bother.

What we ordered.. Beef tray and brisket chilli What went well.. Service was really good, the lady was kind, pleasant, asked if everything was okay.. couldn’t fault her! What didn’t go so well.. Atmosphere was dead.. only one table in the restaurant at our time of visit.. could be just that time of day so didn’t mind as much.. Food was tepid.. didn’t really taste of much, was expecting a sort of spice or something! Beef chilli wasn’t really that.. it was more nachos with a side of chilli so for the price it was way too much!! Slaw was boring and no taste to it.. the beef tray tasted like warmed up meat.. (I know slow meats are pre cooked but the temperature was tepid and so went cold quick on the plate.. To top it off I saw the chef eat something with his hands and didn’t witness him washing them after.. then our food arrived.. Overpriced and underwhelming

Would highly recommend a visit to see Tom and his team, allowing them to serve you some really authentically smoked food. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Menu is excellent and well thought out. They’ve worked hard to create a menu that has enough breadth for everyone, whilst not overstretching themselves. The food is brilliantly cooked, and would give many an American smokehouse a run for their money. Jumbo wings were great - try a few of the flavours to get full experience. Bark on St Louis ribs was crisp and covered a moist and succulent rib meat underneath. Beef rib had superb depth of flavour, good smoke ring and melted in mouth. Burnt ends were good - lots of flavour (but I prefer a crispier burnt end!) Chicken fell off bone and tasted great. Brisket chilli was warming and full on for flavour. Fries were great…. Dirty fries even better! Even dirtier fries I didn’t get to try as they forgot the pulled pork (and I didn’t realise!!) Portion sizes are good… and they allow you to add extra smoked products to your plate. Food does not come out as a starter, main etc… all comes out in as it’s ready. As it would at a bbq! Sure they could take a starter order, serve it and then take a main order etc if you ask.

First time visit to this establishment which we have said for months that we would visit but our first visit would not have us returning unfortunately. Food was really underwhelming, street corn side would have been better if actually barbecued but just tasted boiled in water & not a fan of the white bbq sauce which is just a personal taste. Have tasted cornbread in other American restaurants but it’s always tasted savoury and this one was so sweet more deemed as dessert than side dish. Garlic king prawns didn’t taste of garlic at all and bread they were served on was quite soggy. Meats on tray 4 option were ok, sausage was the best tasting but all felt a little lukewarm and underwhelming. Restaurant itself was clean and staff were lovely and polite. So many other eating establishments nearby that we would prefer to try others than return our custom here again, shame it wasn’t better.

Chose Smok'd for a special evening with adult son who was travelling 110 miles to send a night with us as Covid & travel had prevented a get together for almost a year. I visited the restaurant 4 days in advance to check on menu, location etc as we both have mobility restrictions. I queried whether I needed to pre book & was assured there was no need as early evening on Tuesdays the restaurant is always quiet. We subsequently arrived at 6.45pm on Tuesday & were informed that as we had not prebooked they could not serve us. They had one chef working & about 6+ customers dining. I explained how special this visit was for us but the duty manager was unmoved & refused us entry. We were devastated. If you was considerate, caring customer service do not visit Smok'd Friars Walk Newport. We will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

Very impressed, the food was delicious I hate burnt meat, but the flavour of the marinades was lovely the staff was very friendly and helpful, my only moans were I did not like the Glamorgan larger and the food was on the pricey side, but we will visit again.

These guys absolutely nail accommodating for a dairy intolerance, making it so easy to eat out here without worrying! Probably the most accommodating food venue we’ve been to since discovering my wife’s intolerance last year. Food is FANTASTIC. Full of flavour and service is also brilliant with friendly staff. There’s a real American feel to the venue itself which I love and this is very quickly becoming a ‘go to’ place for date night with my wife and I. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the start of January and we will be back soon! Keep up the good work! Choose this over TGIs next door, better value for money and good to support local businesses also!

I had been looking forward to this visit as a birthday treat. We ordered a meat tray and a few sides to share. The food arrived very quickly , much of it was caked in a black crust which I assumed was a rub/seasoning. I tucked in to each cut of meat and the resounding feeling was that they were all incredibly dry , even the chicken was as dry as a driest dry thing ! There wasn't that much flavour either so no redemption on taste sorry. I was hoping for succulent but got cardboard. It was terribly disappointing. The dirty fries were good and the blue cheese and jalapeno salad was fabulous the service was good too ,

From the moment we entered what a wonderful warm welcome. nothing is to much, staff was excellent food excellent fantastic environment.cant wait to visit again

The best burger I’ve ever tasted and we all had great meals! The quality of the meat is amazing!!!!! The hospitality and service was so so good. I wish I lived closer because this would be my ‘go-to’ restaurant of choice. Seriously good food, exceptional service.

Wish I could give the place 10 stars. Superb menu, tasty food cooked brilliantly and great drinks. Friendly team who know their stuff and a cool playlist of music to keep you going! This is our second visit and we have vowed to come more often.

We tried 2 sides, 1 sharing plate, a ribeye steak and some cocktails. 10 out of ten on all counts and the best service ever. It's rare not to find any fault in a meal, but there simply wasn't any. Perfection.
