Lovely food totally let down by lack of customer service and oppressive owner, loads of rules do not s , wanting a take away was rudely told to wait by the door and stared at , purchased water and was viewed as if from outer space when had the audacity to ask for a takeaway cup to drink it … food was very good though

Amazing atmosphere, relaxed vibe, fantastic food and excellent service. We stumbled across this place and managed to find the last seats in the end of a bench. We had a bottle of house white, a Caesar salad and a ploughman’s board. The food was excellent as was the wine! We had lots of discussions with the owner over our time there and were made to feel very welcomed. Would definitely recommend forward in or take away!

This has to be one of the most shocking establishments we have visited. Extremely rude staff, not family friendly and certainly not a place you would want to take young children. In fact not a place you would want to take anyone. Avoid this establishment, there are plenty of other friendly and welcoming places in this beautiful place.

We are local couple and stumbled across this place 3 years ago. We haven’t looked back. The team are always attentive and friendly. It is a very relaxing environment where you can forget about the world outside. The staff have a dry and warm sense of humour which is fab! The owner Paul is lovely. It is a small and cosy establishment where you can sit on a long table in the middle with other customers or on stools in the window or on a table with your party. Food excellent (recommend the Pastrami and Salmon Bagels) and their coffee is great too! Keep up the great work guys!

Interesting approach to catering and service. Small cafe rules restricting seating for lunchtime repast , so much so that after ordering a light lunch and hot drink was told that I needed to exceed my order to be seated at one of the tables? Announcing immediately afterwards it would be allowed this time by a very curt waitress. My wife and I have been using this cafe for 5 years but apparently rules now have changed and will be adhered to! Bread is now very 'Supermarket' as opposed to past offerings? Obviously they don't appreciate returning customers and thankfully there are quite a few more establishments in Dartmouth.

I do not like croutons. The beet - feta salad is sublime. . . The croutons might be bread spun with olive oil! The smoked fish is perfect. This deli has absolutely everything anyone could ever need. Did I mention the ginger cake?

Visited here for my Birthday with my wife and children. My Brother in Law lives nearby and recommended the deli as his favourite place to visit. He was not wrong! The menu was varied and creative and the food when it came out was absolutely delicious. Additionally, I could have easily bought many of their deli selections and local produce but had to stop myself or I would have spent a small fortune! Highly recommend.

Simply outstanding. Our go to eatery when in Dartmouth, we go every day. Everything is delicious, fabulous service, wonderful products, cannot recommend highly enough. Check out the Anitpasti (photo included) with Italian meats and Taleggio cheese. Yum!

I visit this deli every time I visit Dartmouth and I just love it! The service is spot on and the selection of produce is fantastic, from wonderful cheeses to yummy cakes and snacks. I just wish I had one nearer to where I live.

Had a great lunch here today. Plenty of social distancing made us feel very comfortable. Our party of three had a filled bagel, vegetarian bruschetta and a ploughman’s board and everyone was very happy with their choices. Even the side salad had a delicious dressing on it! Well done!

If you have never stepped inside Smith Street Deli when in Dartmouth you really need to! We had a birthday lunch today and felt thoroughly spoilt. Superb food (the pate board and sardines particular highlights), a lovely friendly vibe and a glass of wine. What more could you ask for!

Fancied a cream tea, so popped in to order one. Waited outside (covid), thankfully not raining! It came in a cute cardboard box with blue gingham wrap. Excellent scone , one of the best I’ve had, good portion of clotted cream, garnished with a tasty strawberry and a good quality little jar of jam. I didn’t take the tea as I was going to eat it at my holiday home. It was all delicious

Yesterday, I visited Dartmouth for the first time and came across this cafe. The food was absolutely gorgeous. I had the smoked salmon bagel, salad and chocolate brownie. Honestly, it was one the best lunches I have ever had.

We had been recommended Smith Street Deli. We arrived just as the sign outside said Closed, however I popped my head in and asked if they could do a couple of take away drinks. They welcomed me in and said of course! I ordered a latte for my husband and he said it was really good coffee and he has high standards when it comes to coffee! I tried the hot chocolate and again I know a good hot chocolate, it was delicious and I will be back again! I had a brief look around and grabbed some biscuits. The choice of food on offer looked wonderful. You could easily get take away brunch/ lunch/ afternoon tea or even food for dinner. What a fabulous Deli!! Lucky Dartmouth

Popped in with my daughter for a early Lunch I had the salmon and cream cheese bagel and a Flat white, my daughter a bruschetta and one of the local cold drinks. The Salmon Bagel was amazing, bagel was warm and no shortage on Salmon and the flat white Coffee was the best I've had in a while. My daughter said her lunch was delicious too. Already looking forward to returning for Lunch again.

The coffee lacked any true flavour or depth. I doubt that they freshly grind their coffee, or whether they use fresh beans at all. Tasted like a cheap cup of coffee, in contrast to the price. Despite the amount of milk being more than I tend to like, at least they don’t use copious amounts like other coffee shops around Dartmouth are guilty of doing, which was noted. Furthermore, the coffee was nice and hot! I would go again if I desperately needed a hot drink. Not too shabby. I did not order anything else off the menu, yet the food did look tempting, so I may be returning to try some of that! Overall: drinkable coffee, nothing special, although please do note my standards are somewhat high, and some think it good to support local businesses!

Popped in for a takeaway latte and a cappuccino - went back again next day as delicious. Would highly recommend.

Lovey little deli / bistro in the heart of Dartmouth . Came here for lunch with my wife who had the quiche board and I had the ploughman’s. Wonderfully prepared , high quality and locally produced ingredients in a pleasant and immaculately clean environment, however my Lord the owner is miserable - barking at everyone !! He made us feel nervous asking for the bill.... to make things worse , we actually heard him later in the day at the waterfront (after he’d finished) moaning because of how busy it was - I’m sure there are plenty of people in the current climate who would welcome the trade ?? A shame as would have been easily 5* had it not been for the resident Victor Meldrew!

Great food and lovely staff. Ordered an antipasta takeaway box to take to the beach which was filled to the brim with lots of high quality cheese and salami. Great salad and dressing - just what we wanted.

We really loved this delightful deli. Great coffee and cakes. Our children enjoyed the sausage rolls and ploughman's lunch. Kind and friendly service, especially given the current restrictions. A super find for us and we will definitely be back on our return to Dartmouth.

We were lucky to drop on for the window bar of seats one Saturday lunchtime. Great view of the street and time to just 'sit and relax'. Good menu that accommodates all diets, something for everyone - literally. Nice fish board, good coffee. It is a little above average in price but hey it's Dartmouth and the building could do with a little TLC, we would however return.

Stumbled across this fantastic deli. My mum and I were looking for a light bite with a glass of wine , the menu was perfect, something for everone, we had pate and toast, which came with a side salad and red onion chutney, food was delicious and two lovely glasses of wine , staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Looking forward to the next visit

A Christmas holiday in Dartmouth would not be complete without a couple of trips to this fabulous place. The Fish Board is to die for, as well as a gorgeous Horseradish Mustard and a piece of cheese. Thanks Alan, Paul and the team! See you next time we’re down!!

Small, local, friendly, unpretentious. This place serves delicious, quality and great value good. Not for it the high street names and their ‘standard’ offerings... And thankfully in a different league to the apparently quintessential Tea Shoppes like the Singing Kettle and Mad Hatters !

I went to this “cafe” with Granny and Grandad, Mummy and Daddy and my baby sister. I had soup like my grown ups. It was very very tasty so I ate the whole bowl. Then mummy said I was allowed chocolate brownie. It was really yummy. Then I found it hard to sit still but fortunately daddy was just finishing the 2 deli boards. The olives were mummy’s favourite with the cheese on the anti pasta board. Daddy liked the bread a lot because it was tasty. We would all like to go back and eat more food here.

This was an amazing find in a back street. We were made very welcome an all enjoyed the freshest food we’d had all week on our trip to Devon.

Informal & impromptu, yet we felt the quick bite of lunch we grabbed in Smith Street Deli was one of the tastiest meals we had during a fortnight away. Everything about it screamed quality - fantastic scones and jam, delicious cheeses, pickles and bread and the best coffees we found in Dartmouth. The older guy on the till could, perhaps, have been a little more amiable but you’re coming here for the food, not a full entertainment package so five stars it is.

Am a frequent visitor to Dartmouth and come to the Smith Street Deli alot! Very welcoming staff, good coffee and delicious cake! It's off the main tourist drag too so has a lovely feel.

I like Dartmouth but occasionally the masses of tourists and cream tea cafes can be overwhelming luckily just off the main drag is the Smith Street Deli. Great food, beautifully presented and good coffee at a reasonable price. Stop in for lunch or buy something lovely for later. Don’t tell everybody else they will all go there!
