Small talk in North Ayrshire

Small but cosy place. Was very busy when we arrived, but then it was lunchtime! Staff took my name and number to call when table was available..was about 10 mins. Well worth the wait. Good coffee and a great selection of sandwiches, panini, etc., as well as various hot and cold specials. Most impressive was the fact that almost everything could be gluten free! They also have a large selection of home made gluten few cakes. Parking is on street outside..busy but plenty of it, with a quick turnaround. Worth a visit!

More spacious than it used to be so plenty room for prams or wheelchair users. Two sections, some windows seats looking into the harbor. Good all round menu with plenty choice. Then we come to the bakery. All handmade & utterly delicious you will have to return. Toilets on premises Staff really are friendly

We visited on a Saturday morning and it was very busy. It definitely has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The menu had a good selection across breakfasts to afternoon teas. They have lots of cakes to choose from. Toilet is a ai le although it didn’t look like it was designed for the disabled. It’s on the ground floor with lots of free parking right outside. Staff are excellent.

Small Talk is always a pleasure to visit. Lovely food, friendly staff and being quite a small venue, always cosy. They also support local producers and sell eggs etc, as well as a variety of gift items.

I ordered a Cumberland sausage bap, however I was brought a pork link bap. I told the waiter I order a Cumberland Sausage he said yes and walked away. They are not giving what is on menu and substituting for a cheaper alternative, but charging the price for those on menu. A complete rip off, I will never be back in the café, if you don't want scammed avoid Small talk cafe.

Busy place but it's worth it. Food delicious, staff fantastic and I personally loved how they interpreted the needs of my toddler in a way that no where else ever has. Looking forward to going back.

I really think Small Talk is an underrated cafe, the cakes are honestly to die for and the meals too are delicious - the specials are normally quite unique and good chance to try something different. Service is always great. I would definitely choose this cafe as first choice when visiting Irvine harbour. We had a cake made for my grans birthday which was amazing and the full family loved it!

My 3 sisters who come from Glasgow and myself from ardrossan came here today. First time ever. Food was excellent, service first class. Very reasonable prices. Very clean. We all agree we will definitely be back. Well done ladies

Absolutely fantastic, great atmosphere and vibe

After a visit to the maritime museum at Irvine I tried out this cafe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the cakes were excellent and there was a great atmosphere, what's not to like. We will certain be back.

We have been here often and have never been dissapointed Their food is good and they have a superb selection of cakes.

Welcoming atmosphere, very friendly staff and a wonderful array of home baking. My sister and I opted for freshly baked scones with our coffee. Delicious. Also some lovely gifts available for purchase adorning the walls. I can highly recommend the fresh eggs for sale at a very competitive price. It was my second visit to this tearoom and will not be my last.

Really enjoyed visiting harbour side cafe.Good coffee and cakes looked delicious.Friendly and helpful staff, one lovely lady came out to tell us about the Kelpies which had just been put up next to the Mariner museum.Colourful scarves for sale, well worth a visit.

Went here for lunch today with a friend and what a lovely place. Much bigger on the inside than appears from outside, beautifully decorated with lots of nice gifts for sale as well. Good menu selection and food was delicious. Cake selection is amazing and of course had to take some away for later ! Was lovely and cosy inside, very busy and staff were very friendly - would definitely return.

I have lunch in small talk frequently and I’m used to it being busy . Today was no exception . However the attitude of the waitering staff has definitely gone down hill . Firstly when asked to stand out side we stood on the ( apparently) wrong side and my partner and I were ordered - like cattle- to stand on the other side . We dutifully stood for 10 mins waiting for a table . Soon the window table became available and my partner asked if we could sit here . At this point a part of 3 or 4 had arrived and my partner was rudely told ‘no you can wait for a table that sits 2 to become available’ The larger party were then taken before us and we were left to stand outside . Now I know small talk and I know just how small the ‘small’ 2 seater tables are . My partner is a large guy - larger people are more comfortable at larger tables ! Anyway at this point we felt rather annoyed and choose to leave . I do understand that establishments want to maximise their profits and have maximum numbers per tables - however if his doesn’t give them cart blanche to be rude and totally revoke a request for a table . It’s a shame that they are employing staff with these attitudes as the food is always first class .

Lunch was just the best. Pate and Brie platter with wee jars of chutney and red currant jelly. Beautiful presentation and huge portion. Gorgeous pineapple cake for dessert. Always a great selection of soups. Service is great, Covid procedures really good. Love this place.

My wife took me for a treat this morning Saturday 22nd May. I had a Coffee with a fruit Scone jam and Fresh Cream. The Staff where fantastic and the service was excellent. 5 Starr Service and food.

Love the food here, never disappointed. Soup is always tasty. Great selection of cakes and love the lemon meringue pie and cheesecakes. Welcoming staff and nice view of Irvine bay. Well worth a trip to the coast.

My wife is a frequent visitor with either me or one of my daughters and kids. We have never been disappointed, even in this difficult Covid period. Great cooking and service with a smile. My daughter says she has never seen her mum eat so much.

Very impressed with the afternoon tea to takeaway. Sandwiches, kettle crisps, scones, strawberry tarts and meringues plus the offer of tea. Beautifully presented and wrapped with lovely personal touches. Excellent value. Thank you for a wonderful takeaway experience and l will definitely be recommending this excellent package.

Had a great lunch with a friend here today. We both had panini which were lovely and served with a generous side salad and pringles. We couldn’t resist a dessert as the cakes all looked gorgeous! We halved a piece of cheesecake as the portions are very generous (not a criticism!) - vanilla and white chocolate - delicious! Lovely wee place for a bite to eat and a chat. We will be back!

Have visited here a lot in past. No apology when returning our cake with a black hair under it!! Cut off abruptly when giving our order by a demand for contact details. No need to visit a coffee shop for this kind of treatment.

So with all of the restrictions because of Covid-19 Small talk have adapted to offer a take away service. We called to place an order and popped along 10 minutes later to collect it.Customer's collect food from the front of shop and there is plenty of precautions to keep staff and customers socially distanced for everyone's safety.The food we ordered was honestly absolutely brilliant!. A freshly made savoury cheese sandwich on beautiful bread with a very deep and fresh filling and really good home made soup.We had 2 sandwich packs, 2 soups, an Irn Bru and a bottle of still water and that was only £11 which is phenomenal value considering I have spent more on a thrown together subway sandwich.Well done small talk!!

Quite simply the best at what it does. Delicious homemade food at very reasonable prices with great service. The best part about Small Talk though is the ridiculously amazing choice of cakes and other sweet treats, you will not find better in Ayrshire.

This is one of our favourite for a coffee and snack lunch. Home cooked food and very good service from the staff are the attractions. It is quite small being a converted house and perhaps not so good for very young children but ideal for couples and small groups. The soups, usually three on offer are excellent and quite filling to senior citizens.There is a good variety of cakes for those with a sweet tooth.

What a wonderful place...excellent food.....excellent service...and a wonderful location. We will be back soon.

My wife and I were in this lunchtime. We keep forgetting this wonderful little cafe and gift shop. The staff are really friendly and the service fantastic. As for the food my wife had a cheese scone with pineapple and I had a bap with black pudding and bacon . Can’t fault it really tasty. Would highly recommend this little cafe and shop.

We visited for a coffee and cake while exploring the harbour front. The cake selection is quite extensive and we both enjoyed our choices. The coffee shop has a nice cosy feel to it and the staff were friendly. All in all, would happily return.

I didn’t spend even an hour at the cafe, but my brief experience was positive. The staff was friendly and efficient, my soup was delicious and the Victoria sponge cake I enjoyed was near heavenly!!! It was quite crowded and I didn’t have a view or time to really settle in and enjoy the visit, but I had a positive experience and would return again! Would love to see more or Irvine.

This is one of the best places in Irvine for afternoon tea as the staff are both friendly and very helpful. Delicious food and amazing cakes. If your down at the harbourside I would suggest you give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Went in for afternoon Tea. Lovely scones and large strawberry tarts. Nice sandwiches and a 2 pots of tea. All for a very reasonable price. Pensioners pay less after between 3pm and 4. Would highly recommend

We called in for an impromptu cup of tea and a scone last week. It has been sometime since we have visited, just forgot what a little gem this place is. Shall just have to make a mental note to return more often

I went for an afternoon tea. It was quite busy. The service was friendly, the food very good and the location is great!

We ended up at Small Talk as we couldn't get into Grow! But it was very nice, good service, very friendly. Only criticism was that my piece of carrot cake was very small, expected more for £2.90 really.

Popped in here for coffee on our morning walk to the harbour. Tasty fruit scone with butter and jam and good coffee but could have been hotter. Our waitress wasn’t exactly friendly although pleasant enough compared to young girl who took our check who was really friendly with a lovely smile.

Lovely compact find. Delicous food nicely presented, great choice, bagels, toasties, panini, soup etc etc. To 'die for' cakes. Nice small selection of bits and bobs, struggled not to purchase one of there very reasonably price handbags of which there was a good selection of styles and colours. Visiting family in Irvine will definately return.

Popped in for breakfast...super rolls and bacon and tasty coffee..fab selection of cakes etc....I don't care how early it is I'm having cake 😋 all with great service by lovely ladies ...... quality bags and scarfs to buy too ...give it a try .

We stopped off for lunch on Saturday l, we had short wait for table, but it was worth the wait, haggis, baked potato and cheese, with salad might sound like a strange combo but it was so tasty, the soup looked lovely too. We got cakes to takeaway, they were amazing.

I have been to this quaint little coffee shop several times and always enjoyed my lunch. So i decided to take my mum and dad and i really wish we had went elsewhere. It was very cramped at our corner table to start with which wasn't great. We all ordered the soup and toastie combo and I've never seen so much cheese on a toastie it just didn't look nice. Our tea was also lukewarm which wasn't great. So all in all it may be sometime before i go back there. Really didn't enjoy it.

This is a cute little cafe down at irvine harbour. When I visited here i noticed that it is quite small but luckily we were able to get a seat. I am giving it a three out of five because although it was nice, I have been to better and also it was a bit over priced for what it was.

This is my favourite place to lunch, whether family, friends or partner everyone loves it. The food is made so well the way my gran used to cook great quality ingredients. Love the soup and toasties and also the gluten free apple pie and custard - to die for.

My first visit to this charming cafe/restaurant yesterday We picked a very busy time Short wait to be seated and served from a fairly extensive menu Cauliflower cream soup was delicious and piping hot! This is a favourite spot for lunch or coffee and cake. The extensive menu is well priced and the homemade cakes are to die for. I defy anyone to walk past the display and not try one. Staff are great and always make time to chat to customers. Our two year old granddaughter is always made welcome and given some bricks to play with while waiting for lunch. Children’s menu is excellent too. Consistently good.

Regularly pop in for takeaway lunch. homemade soup with bread and finished off with something from the cake counter. Huge choice of delicious home baking. It’s always busy whether sitting in or taking out. Highly recommend

Upon entering you are welcomed straight away by friendly staff. There's a great variety of cakes and sandwiches, panini's and baked potatoes. Everyday your treated to a delicious choice of 2 or 3 homemade soups with thick sliced bread, enough to warm anyone up. The tearoom is kept very clean and you can see into the kitchen which is also clean. No reasonable request is refused staff do all they can to provide what you ask for, mixing up menu items. Children are also welcome they even have a few toys to keep them happy. This tearoom is a place not to be missed, don't walk by pop in you won't be disappointed.

First visit we made was to meet friends and we were all struck by the warm friendly atmosphere. It was busy but for good reason. The staff were attentive and friendly, the service was quick and the food was great. Been back a few times. Love it and highly recommend it.

Small Talk was very busy which speaks of it’s popularity. Service speedy and efficient. All of the cakes and pastries looked homemade and delicious, you would have a tough time choosing only one. Will certainly come back here when in the area.

I’ve been visiting Small Talk since my son was born 3 years ago. Great food, great service, staff are all wonderful and there are some lovely gifts for purchase. My son has a particular love for their soup,cakes & Pamela 😉😂

Popped in for lunch when we were visiting the area - was recommended by a local. Food was lovely especially the cakes! Service good too and was packed out.

I live in London and there is not an Artisan Bakery to be found that even comes close to the amazing cakes on offer here! My favourite is the pineapple tarts which are full of fresh cream, yum! :)

Used to be I here nearly everyday 50years ago when it was Jean Cousars Post Office. Have driven by it for years and had our first lunch in it last week. Excellent food, lovely cakes and friendly service. Will he be using it on a regular basis.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch here with my Dad during the week. Lovely fresh sandwiches and soup at a reasonable price. Seems like we were lucky to get a table for lunch on a sunny Wednesday! Despite having more competition these days, it’s still a very popular wee place - and for good reason! Have been coming here for years and will continue to do so!

Dropped in on a Friday and although it was half an hour till closing time, we weren't in the least bit rushed. I had a lovely gluten free toasted scone, which was delicious. They have a variety of gluten free options. The view is lovely too.
