A first time visit to a new venture, can only get better. Having visited Smallwood Lodge a few times for lunch, it was a nice surprise to see they are introducing a couple of evenings serving Tapas and Mezze. A much needed addition to the town! We visited on the second day of opening so they are very new to it and we’re happy for constructive ideas. Apparently the chef is only 18! In all we had 7 dishes and drinks which was reasonably priced. I don’t think they can charge more for what is on offer. All the dishes were very tasty and beautifully cooked. A suggestion would be that bread is served as a ‘norm’ rather than charged for, could ask if customers want it or not so as to save waste. Booking is required. Will definitely return.

I’m a regular at this establishment for coffee and cake, meeting girl friends for lunch and afternoon tea. So to kickstart Hubby’s 60th birthday celebrations I booked us in for a breakfast on the special day. In advance I dropped off a helium balloon, age specific badge and sparkling candles and all these duly appeared when we arrived - the candles in the sausages on hubbys breakfast plate! We were looked after with friendly kindness and the food, tea, coffee and a glass of Prosecco were all first class. Toilets are spotless and general hygiene second to none. Excellent local businesses like this one deserve to be supported and encouraged. We will be back.

We ate some lunch and had coffee and a glass of Prosecco today at Smallwood Lodge. The staff welcomed us with warm smiles, lovely service and were so accommodating. We arrived at Smallwood Lodge unannounced having not booked a table. The staff there couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Lunch was amazing. If you go there, your tea will be made fresh and served the old way - with tea leaves for you to strain - so much tastier. Everything happens in good time and is super fresh - so don't expect 'fast food'. We will definitely return there. If I had to made a suggestion for Smallwood Lodge, it would be to make the entrance more prominent and advertise to people what gem lies within. The little menu box there is easily missed.

I can't recommend Smallwood Lodge highly enough! I love coming in with my little dog, often with a friend but today I came in on my own to have a coffee and something to eat. I am a diabetic so I eat omelettes all the time but today I had THE BEST omelette I have ever had anywhere! It was so light and fluffy and so tasty! Accompanied with a cappuccino that was perfectly prepared, exactly how I had asked for it (over 1 inch of foam with no chocolate sprinkles).... Huge well done to this amazing cafe! If you are in Newport shropshire, do come and try, you won't be disappointed! Leda Tustin

Couldn’t fault the food one bit it was excellent so compliments to the chef. However, my mum had paid a lot of money for my nan’s birthday to take herself, my nan and myself and my sister for afternoon tea. She had pre-booked two of the champagne afternoon tea. The service was absolutely awful. We waited for ages and they forgot to bring the champagne so we had to remind them, they then forgot the pots of tea and then when they brought the food, we had to wait ten minutes to just get cutlery. It’s a shame as the food was lovely but I will not be returning and most certainly will not be recommending this as a place to go. Considering this was a pre-booked ‘experience’ that was certainly not cheap, it was absolutely horrendous. No organisation and no communication at all. We then asked for the bill, 15 minutes later we had to go and find someone to go and get it and then found the girl stood in the kitchen on her phone, absolutely disgusting behaviour when you’re supposed to be at work and especially when a paying customer has asked for the bill. Awful service!

The majority of the staff are very friendly and have a chat with you... however, there is one lady that is awfully rude and abrupt, doesn’t even smile or check to see if everything’s okay. I’ve shrugged it off a few times thinking maybe she’s having a bad day, however I’ve mentioned it to relatives who are also fans of Smallwood Lodge and they’ve experienced the same thing. Thinking we would only have half a sandwich or a small amount of soup for the price it was a lovely surprise to have full sandwich and tasty it was too! A lovely building, a feeling of elegance like popping back in time, loved it and would definitely go again, friendly staff and not rushed at any point, it was full of people enjoying great looking afternoons teas nice to see on a Thursday afternoon, pop in, you will not be disappointed!

Having read reviews we stopped off for lunch and were not disappointed. The building is full of character, warm and comfy.

Again Smallwood lodge have impressed us with an amazing lunch with a glass of fizz. I had the butter chicken curry and rice and my gorgeous lady had homemade burger with mature cheddar and bacon, side of horseradish coleslaw and side salad. We had a lovely bottle of chilled prosecco. Great warm and friendly service in a lovely place. This 600 year old Tudor tea room is a hidden gem, rumour has it that there is a ghost residing here! Really worth a visit if you are in the area, we love it!

Fantastic Sunday lunch and service. clean and relaxing surroundings. Diana and Paul who run the Forresters Arms are such a great team. Diana cooks wonderful food - the best Sunday Dinner in the whole of Yorkshire.

We visited the grove for Mother’s Day, 6 adults, 1 child. 3 x roast chicken, 2 x 8oz fillet steak, 1 children’s chicken nuggets +chips. My meal (steak) came out and looked great, although my stone wasn’t hot enough to cook my steak, onions and mushrooms, my steak although looked great, tasted horrible. £23 to only be satisfied with the chips! My wife also couldn’t eat the chicken and neither could my father Inlaw, only eating less that half there meals. I wouldn’t go back if I’d not Eaton for a month and was offered a free meal!

Fantastic service couldn't fault them. We were one of those dreaded tables with allergies and picky people and no request was an issue. Our servers Ryan and Kaiyre were amazing. Definitely recommend

We went here for an evening meal. The service by the staff was most welcoming and professional. We chose a three course meal which filled us both up .For the main meal, we chose a sirloin steak cooked medium rare, which when it arrived was cooked to perfection our compliments go to the chef. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for a really nice evening for friends or family..
