We visited Saturday lunchtime and found the food and service to be absolutely amazing. Batter on delicious fish that melts in the mouth, chips and mushy peas cooked to perfection. We will definitely call in again in September.

Always amazing fresh fish and chips The batter melts in your mouth and the fish is moist and delicious We had fish and chips with a curry sauce and mushy peas to share with two teas and it came to just over £20. A real bargain and the two ladies who own it are a delight

Lovely fish and chips only at the takeaway but not disappointed, very warm and friendly service pleasant . We went here, purely because another fish shop was closed and we needed somewhere that fried in veg oil.What a fantastic experience we had. There was 5 adults and 5 children and we wanted to sit inside. Their seating area is small but clean and tidy with a lovely aquarium.The two ladies who ran Small Fry could not do enough for us. Not only were the fish and chips fantastic and cooked perfectly, everything else was too. The gravy, curry sauce, peas and hot drinks were all excellent.Added extras like a slice of lemon on the fish, gravy boats for the sauces and such a pleasant warm welcome made our visit really enjoyable.We have all told many people about this little gem and will definitely make this our stop when we visit the coast. Fabulous place and highly recommend. Thanks ladies for a lovely experience.

Haddock, chips and curry sauce. Fish was cooked whilst I waited. Very particular about putting my curry sauce on my chips before my fish was placed on top. Fish was delicious. Generous portion. Always go here every time I go to Scarborough .

The best fish n chips we have ever had the 2 lady’s that run the place run it to perfection the mushy peas were perfect haddock was delicious simply perfect in our opinion number 1 fish n chip shop 👌

Ordered 2 x Haddock and Chips over the phone to collect. Food was ready when I arrived and was still piping hot after the 15minute drive home. My main reason for writing this review is the superb service I received! The lady that served me was really friendly and chatty, a great example of real customer service!

My husband & myself had the most delightful meal in Small Fry, Scarborough! The 2 ladies who run this wonderful fish & chip cafe/takeaway are just lovely & offer such great service! We had our meal in the little cafe which was so cosy & warm & exceptionally clean. There was a little electric stove heater underneath a large nicely presented fish tank which added to the atmosphere beautifully! We felt like we were sitting in a Christmas Cottage....My husband had cod & chips, I had a battered beef burger in a roll with a portion of mushy peas which were very generous portions & truly scrumptious! We also had a pot of tea for 2 that came with an extra pot of hot water....very nice indeed! For dessert my husband had 3 very large scoops of rather yummy vanilla ice-cream which came with an all butter shortbread finger! The menu has a good variety of food & drinks & the prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend Small Fry, Scarborough for a wonderful meal in a tranquil atmosphere.

Always cooked to order, haddock, plaice, scampi, cod etc. The best mushy peas I have ever eaten. Been coming for years and will continue to do so while ever the sisters run in. Lovely people and great service. You can eat on or take away, the choice is yours.

We had this restaurant recommended by family in the area - they said it was the best fish and chips in Scarborough and they were right!We both ordered the Haddock and Chips with mushy peas and it was absolutely fantastic - so tasty. The fish was skinless and the batter was crispy. The chips were cooked to perfection and the mushy peas, that we don't normally eat, were lovely.Exceptional customer service from the two ladies that own this restaurant made our visit to Scarborough one to remember. 

As a pescetarian, it's always a struggle to find fish and chips up North that haven't been cooked in beef fat. These were just superb. Beautifully cooked fish and gorgeous chips. Small portions if required and home made mushy peas that were out of this world. This is a takeaway with a small cafe with just four tables. Service amazingly friendly. Just fab.

Quite simply superb! Excellent and pleasant service. Four tables in a small café as well as a takeaway, if you’re looking for salubrious surroundings, you won’t get them here, but what you will get is a proper plate of the finest finish and chips. I am shocked that this place is not ranked in the top 10 in Scarborough. It should be. Excellent meal, great value. Will be back for sure.

Small Fry is the best Fish and Chip shop in Scarborough. Family run, they do out sales, but also have a small café, where you can go in sit down enjoy mouth watering meal. Cooked to perfection every time, with a pretty good menu. Positioned on North street, with a council car park literally on the door step, no problem. We have been going to Small fry now over 20 years. The service, presentation of the food, lovely.. If your on the main street where Marks & Spencer are, North street if just a little higher up . First trip to Scarborough and had a look on google for fish and chips. Council Car park is just 30 seconds away. We decided to eat in from the small but cosy cafe side of the shop, which was lovely and clean and nice setting. 5 of us so we had a selection of food including fish, chips, pie, fish cake etc. All was absolutely lovely. The two ladies running the shop were very friendly and helpful and made the visit that much better. Would visit again most definitely.

Visited here while in Scarborough but only stayed for tea.To get into the cafe you go in through the takeaway door and then through another door to a small cafe.There we were well served with our pot of tea.Everything certainly done properly

I was trying to find a chippy whilst staying in Scarborough that fried in vegetable oil - no easy task!!! Came across this on my search and so glad I did. Lovely light batter, tasty fish and yummy chips. Fish and chips have a tendency to lay on my stomach, but not these, they were excellent.

Best chippy in Scarborough. Can highly recommend and the service is fantastic. They have the best fresh fish everyday and you can takeaway or eatin. The two sisters who run it are so friendly and welcoming and they keep a very clean fish shop.

We parked in the north road car park and on the way to the shops you will see Small Fry fish & chip take away & Resturant I have been many times a great place and reasonably priced

We had a takeaway fish and chips. The fish was plenty big enough even though they said they didn't have any large ones ready. The taste of the fish was just great, the real thing.

I am very grateful to TripAdvisor for finding this lunch venue. We were on a charter train trip and needed a swift lunch. We got there just before cooking for lunch ceased. The café adjacent to the chip shop is very small but there was a table for us. We greatly enjoyed our haddock and chips. Very friendly and efficient service and very reasonable prices. All round excellent!

We often visit Scarborough from Leeds and always visit Small Fry. Fresh food always delicious and the only place I eat peas. A must for anyone who wants great food, lovely service and the best mushy peas anywhere.

We have had takeaway fish and chips several times from Smallfry, and always enjoyed them. As the weather is getting colder we decided to try the restaurant attached to the shop.

Having been resident in Scarborough for the past two years, we've sampled most of the town's numerous fish and chip restaurants and takeaways - well, you have to, don't you? Out of all of them we've come to regard Small Fry as our favourite, for a number of reasons:

Starting the staff we're all friendly and very efficient, the fish and chips were even better! would 110% come back here!! You must give it a try

don't mention small fry to me slow service small potions to expensive for what you get wont be in a hurry to return here

We have visited Small Fry for many years on our visits to Scarborough. It's a Gem of a place. The service, the food, I would give 100% . Fish and chips cooked to perfection, along with mushy peas, which are delicious, and pots of tea. They have other variations on their menu also. Cooked in vegetable oil, not fat. Give this little Gem of a place a try. You wont be disappointed.. Try the fish shop for take home meal, equally as grand and tasty. We may see you all in the café, tucking in to the best.

I have written quite a few reviews of places I have visited, but seem to forget to review what we have at home.

Far and away the best in town. Succulent fish and perfectly cut chips served in a friendly atmosphere. We generally use the small cafe,presided over by the convivial owners for whom nothing is too much trouble. We'd recommend the accompaniments of mushy peas and s raps.

It is over thirty years since I discovered Smallfry, Perhaps more than fifteen years since I was last able to visit. In that time I have compared many other fishy offerings and none live up to the golden goodies provided on this small Scarborough back street. We travelled from Orkney for today's lunch and every last mile was worth the effort. This is exactly how cod and chips should be cooked and the service is unequalled anywhere. We had a wonderful lunch today Thank you. Please ladies, do not ever change.

Owned by a couple of friendly locals offering take away and incorporating a small cafe with 16 seats, serving generous portions from an extensive traditional chip shop menu. Delicious fish is complemented by tasty chips and superb mushy peas with a colour and consistency unrivalled elsewhere. Seek it out off the town centre on North Street and why not enjoy a pint in the almost adjacent Angel afterwards?

One of the best in town, have been going for years and occasionally try somewhere else but always go back for the best

Every visit to Scarborough, it is a must do, to have a sit in Haddock and chips.

We discovered the Small Fry 20 years ago by accident and on any following visits to Scarborough, we cannot resist a visit. The fish is always so fresh and juicy, with the batter done perfectly, the chips are not greasy and their mushy peas are to die for, the seasoning used is magical - mmm. We have experienced both take away and sat in the dainty little restaurant. The 2 ladies who work there are superb at making you feel at home - this is a spotless place. Possibly this café falls by the wayside with it not being on the sea front, but I have to say, it is well worth going inland slightly for this tasty experience.

We were in Scarborough to see Simply Red at the Open Air Theatre. We have been coming to Small Fry for probably 25+ years now and it never disappoints. We have always got them well wrapped but decided to eat in for the first time.

this place has been here as long as I have in scarborough run by sisters and the quality of the food has never dropped, everything is cooked fresh they have very little stood and the mushy peas are definitely the best in scarborough

Haven't been here for over 20.years but when I lived in Scarborough I always went here and they were excellent but I have to say when I had fish and chips on Friday chips were pale and the vinegar watered down why do fish shops need to do this ? the fish was lovely shame about the rest

Very charming little four table restaurant run by two beautiful sisters. Takeaway being the main trade. A little gem. Cod or Haddock, we had both.

When in Scarborough we try to visit Small Fry. Great fish and chips - light not greasy batter and sensibly sized portions for those who don't want a mountain of chips. Proper service where every customer seems valued. A new addition, since our last visit, is a small pair of scissors so you don't have to tear open the sauce sachets. Unusually for me I didn't end up with ketchup all over me!

Been visiting this fish and chip shop for many years, the two ladies that run it are wonerfully friendly and havent changed in all the years we've been coming here, fish is fresh, tasty with fantastic crisp batter, mush peas are amazing, a must have, its off beat and track but worth the walk up in to the town, forget sea front, head to small fry on north street, you wont be disappointed.

Succulent fish and chips which can be either taken away or eaten in the small cafe adjoining. Friendly owners who are keen to ensure visitors enjoy their visit. Close to main car parks and just off the main shopping street, this town centre shop and cafe provide excellent food cooked in the northern style.
