My wife and I visited after seeing a sign scribbled on a chalk board during the day. It's an innovative little pop-up based in the vaults under Scarborough Market Hall, where there are craft and vintage shops by day. Manned by owner Paul who is very knowledgeable and chatty, we were treated to some superbly kept wines in a quietly informal atmosphere. It's a far cry from the hoi-polloi and bustle of Scarborough drinking holes, and one which must be prized. Top work, we'll be back.

Myself and my partner made our pilgrimage last week. The wine on offer was exquisite. The owner, Paul across, gave a detailed overview of where the wines were from and how they was made. We will come back.

Myself and my parter discovered this hidden gem in Scarborough which is a place like no other. The wines are unique and the atmosphere was just right. The smell of the stone and wood and the dimmed lighting was just perfect For a chilled night of drinking. Very relaxed and comfortable and we would recommend to anyone.

I was informed of Black Friar early in the day, and was really pleased to come across it during the late hours of Friday evening. The Host is a wonderful man who came up with this idea whilst a Business Academic in Hull - may his venture continue. The selection of vine is matched by the knowledge of the vineyard and advice as to pallet of preference. Blink and this venue will disappear and return to being the entrance to the undercroft of the Market upstairs during the day. A must for those wine connoisseurs seeking a rest-bite from the late-night madness of Scarborough.

The owner couldn’t be friendlier nothing is too much trouble and telling us about the history of the market place. We will return when back up here again

A Dickensian feel to this pop up wine bar lots of candlelight and a solid feel to this venue considering if you pop in the daytime it's not there - a small but good selection of wines and bread ,olives or cheese available

What a gem! The menu is simple, interesting and well considered. We had the daal stew which was delicious.;We were spoilt for choice with other offerings on the menu so will definitely go back. They make their own bread, scones and croissant too. Very friendly for humans and furry friends, I highly recommend.
