Small Batch Coffee in Brighton and Hove

The absolute charlatans don't except cash and refused to take cash which is illiegal in England. DOESN'T NOT ACCEPT OUR LEGAL TENDER. Good news though, so many other choices in brighton an hove now you can stroll in somewhere else. This place is a shadow of its former self since Mr Johnson sold up.

Approximately 14:15 on 29/05/22 Always loved Small Batch but when our drinks were brought outside and we asked for some sugar from the female staff member, she gestured to inside and told us it was in there as she walked away. We wouldn't have thought much more on this, but when one of our party went to get said sugar he overheard her moaning about the fact we'd asked her and when confronted about this (firmly, not rudely) she said "what do you want from me? And apology?", when I said yes, she replied "well you're not going to get it, grow up" as she walked off again. The male staff member did not attempt to intervene at any point. Such a request is met by staff at Small Batch with no problem before and any other café around. Making this occasion an absolutely disgusting display of customer service and a serious attitude. We will not be returning.

One of my favourite cafe to do some work in peace and enjoy first class coffee. Lunch snacks also rock!

A victim of its own success, the ever popular Small Batch on Western Road has lost its best staff and is now lazy, grubby and produces (too often) undrinkable coffee. Twice over the weekend ( I, and then we, went back hoping it was a blip - it wasn't) ordered cappuccinos and came away the first time with something more like hot chocolate and the second time with two different drinks, one made with oat milk and the second even sweeter and clearly not coffee at all. The Barista and co were clearly having a lovely time ignoring customers, looking cool and slopping milk randomly into mugs and cups. Now they serve half decent meals they seem to have forgotten about the core product - consistent, high quality coffee.

Always excellent coffee, friendly staff. Nice outside seating area to enjoy sunny days. Plenty of space to work with a laptop if that’s what you want to do.

I fell into Small Batch on Western Road after googling 'dog friendly cafes' as I needed to sneak out from my building with my dog. I ordered an oat cappuccino and some toast - arrived really quickly and the portion of toast was huge, 4 slices of sourdough with butter and jam. The lovely women working actually gave me some jam to takeaway as I loved it so much! Highly recommend, super chilled and they love dogs!

Choice of sandwiches very poor and not appetising! Strange fillings. Table wasn’t wiped before we sat down. Too pricey! Definitely would not return!!!

Average coffee shop Expensive coffee - have to pay for soya milk :( - you should check the law for dairy free alternatives Soy coffee is always lumpy at this one, I don't know why Wifi broken

We went to this small batch because we heard they now had a Brunch menu. We found the staff friendly and helpful, they were quite busy and we don't like to be fussed over. We ordered a Avocado and toast (Sourdough bread) with a side 2 poached eggs each and some coffee. The coffee arrived quickly and was very nice. The food also arrived in quick order. We had a good relaxing time there and would go back.

Having sampled their excellent coffee, most lately Small Batch has introduced a great menu of brunch type food - very tasty and very sweet. However there were s few issues with tech and my Eggs Royale didn't go quite right - but the caring staff were so apologetic and I gained a bag of beans and another flat white@ And a delicious meal once rectified. Brilliant.f

Hi. Have been a supporter of the coffee company since day one at Goldstone Villas. This particular outlet is generally very good but today not so. I had a business meeting and my client snared wifi password. I asked one of the employees who happened to be cleaning a table next to us and she just said "look at the label on the bar" and carried on cleaning. Hey ho. Snowflakes of today.

This is a place have enjoyed visiting many times but really disappointed with staff today There was problem getting onto WiFi previous has been fine but they changed password and the one they said was correct wasn't working at all tried multiple versions with and without capitols and spaces but nothing worked Frustrating but worse was the staffs complete lack of response and really didn't seem to care Quite rude and dismissive and not prepared to check issue Oh well here is hoping they read reviews and do something about it I will probably go back in again at some point but there are so many great cafés that will choose others for my daily coffee ☕ break Really Dissapointing Small Batch Coffee has got quite big in the area so expected more... Oh well... I did enjoy the coffee just won't be visiting again too soon

its freezing in there. The staff seem love have every single door open even on the coldest days. Coffee shops are meant to be warm and comfortabe to sit in. The staff also seem to resent serving customers. I remember when this place had a really personal touch to it, staff were friendly and remembered your name and order. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Real shame.

The service is outstanding and quick. Coffees are higher quality than Starbucks, food is fresher and tastier and the bill is less. The surroundings are pleasant and on a warm day there is a patio you can sit at.

Typical small batch experience. Totally empty but a 15 minute wait for the coffee to be "crafted by beardy artisans" bloody ridiculous, its is a coffee, nothing more, it is not a craft, stop poncing it up to be something it isn't. You take beans (2 secs), grind them (3 secs), add water (10 secs max) and then a splash of milk (2 secs), that doesn't take a quarter of an hour. Its actually luke warm after all this faffing, absurd

Not only is the coffee awesome, we were visiting Brighton and accidentally left a laptop charger in the coffee shop. (These things are expensive!) They couldn't have been more helpful, put it to one side, sent it back to me and refused to take any payment for the hassle and postage. Legends. Keep up the good work.

a young asian girl with a mole on her cheek served me today. it was very quiet and I was the only person at the till. she decided to prioritise cleaning the tables before taking my order. she was rude and had a bad attitude. when i said "hello" at the till after waiting for a few minutes she decided to ignore me. i then waited for my coffee to be made, whilst waiting i moved a napkin to one side at the counter to make room for her to place my coffee in front of me. she immediately picked up the napkin and put it straight back to where it was. i will not be visiting this coffee shop again

We live nearby. We have recommended this cafe to many people. We go just about every day. In there you can get stamped a card for the coffees you've had after 9 u get a free one. So one day we forgot. We went in and theres this new girl, GD HAVE MERCY, I SAID WE FORGOT YESTERDAY WE COME EACH DAY CAN YOU STAMP PLEASE? "OH NO YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH MANAGEMENT" "TAKE IT UP WITH MANAGEMENT WTF ARE YOU JOKING WE COME HERE EACH DAY" I was really upset, not to be trusted. Ive met people like this before. One can imagine she would be a good bureaucrat stopping people at the border, "Oh I have a wife and family its winter please help me" "Oh no" this girl would say, you didn't cross your T and that i isn't dotted, sorry you'll have to die in the cold" "But...but...." Thats the sort of person this is. CANT BLOODY SMALL BATCH GET PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPASSIONATE KIND AND GOOD TO THEIR REGULAR CUSTOMERS? JEEZ

Great coffee and veggie breakfast roll. Probably gets busy but worth the wait while the staff get round to everyone

We normally like the small batch coffee shops, but this was our first (and last) visit to the one on western road.

This coffee shop has a great setup and a good selection of brew methods to suit most palates. In the batch brew was their blend of Burundi and Colombia. Nice atmosphere with a steady stream of locals grabbing a coffee whilst on the dog walk. Couple of coffees later I leave feeling satisfied and would return when in the area again.

As ever, small batch coffee is consistent and to our taste. Never over roasted. Pleasant service. WiFi here is brilliant.

Stopped for a quick coffee at Small batch on Friday. I know it’s a very popular brand in Brighton, but I’m sorry I really don’t like the coffee. It’s too strong & too bitter. Really unpleasant. Sorry.

I think that this cafèe is very cool and pretty. It's ok for young people.

The small batch coffee is a good bar, the place is pretty and the location is confortable.

Small Batch charges extra for non-dairy milks, a lot extra. When I emailed them to ask them to stop discriminating against their vegan and lactose intolerant customers they said they spend lots more on alternative milk than dairy milk. They buy one of the most expensive soy milks available and refuse of have an additional good quality but cheaper one (there are many). I don't think this should matter as they already make a large profit on coffee and I asked them to send me over the different prices so I can work out if the extra charge just covers the additional cost of the alternative milks or is ripping us off as I suspect. They will not provide this price comparison. Please avoid as they like to rip off customers, especially the vegan ones.

Nice central reliable coffee shop. Friendly eclectic crowd, solid products. Good relaxed atmosphere.

Although I am a small Batch Coffee fan this is my worst experience in their coffee shops

I visited this coffee shop with friends and, after our coffee, needed to use the toilet. These are located downstairs and, as I discovered, are kept locked with key code access.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Brighton, I ordered an ice latte and they were little late to serve it so they gave me a free coffee card for my next visit which was nice and thoughtful!

I popped in the Western Road branch on a Sunday morning for a take away coffee. The staff have no urgency to serve customers they are more concerned with talking to each other instead of giving customers a speedy service. After waiting for 10 minutes for my coffee the staff then got confused with the orders purely because they weren't concentrating. and to finish it off the coffee was lukewarm.

I do enjoy the coffee here but unfortunately I'm not keen on going into any eating place and being forced to be veggie! They had NO meat sandwiches, sausage rolls, nothing that contained meat. It was 12 noon as well. Not everyone wants to be a vegetarian or vegan so you really need to sort your stock levels and cater for everyone. When I commented on this to a member of staff I got a filthy look. Hardly professional

Good coffee but..... 13 min wait for it, 30p charge for contactless card, awful noise from machine, and real tea but why not use a pot where the customer can decide how long to let the leaves brew.

A lovely corner setting to sit outside and watch the world go by Coffee is perfect and a good range of cakes and pastries Recommended are the marmalade cake, delicious!

All branches do brill coffee but my favourite venue is Norfolk Square- bigger,more food and friendly staff. My only criticism is their frappes altho good, are way over priced.

Always reliable, with nice staff. The coffees, teas, and hot chocolate are good, and the selection of accompanying bites are very good. They are dog friendly, and even have a small outdoor seating area over looking Norfolk Square.

Large cafe - so you can usually get a table, v relaxed vibe that suits locals and tourists, the coffee is very very good and the staff are friendly. Sometimes takes a while to get your coffee if there's a queue, but worth the wait. Dogs welcome.

I spend a lot of time in coffee shops as I travel for work and spend a lot of time trying to find a good space to sit and drink good coffee. It is very fortunate that one of the best places I have found is right on my doorstep.

You know when you have an experience of something you really know well and it surprises you and you wonder 'where has this been all my life?' and all other versions of that thing are rendered pointless? Like the first time you tried champagne having always been a prosecco girl, or the first time you ate real prosciutto having only ever had ham? This is the comparison to make between coffee and Small Batch coffee. It is deep complex, fruity, chocolatey, roasty perfection. It is on another level of coffee. The service was also, excellent, friendly and helpful and educational, lots of new coffee information and tips on the right grind for a take home bag. Once you try small batch - no other coffee will do. Branches are popping up all over Brighton too - thank goodness!
