Slug and Lettuce in Isle of Wight

Group of us were on holiday and looking for somewhere to eat and drink before going to Fever. The rest of the town was pretty quiet on a Saturday night but we came here and was happy with what we found. We didn’t have a booking and were let in. The decor was really nice. We ordered food on the app and it came quickly. I had the lasagna which was really nice and some chicken tacos which could have had more chicken in but were still nice. My boyfriend really didn’t like his chicken burger so wouldn’t recommend that. There was 2 for 1 cocktails all night which was amazing and they had a vast, interesting menu. However, some of the cocktails were very sickly and I started to feel quite sick and full after only 2 drinks. I wasn’t sure if this was down to the food or the sickliness of the drinks but it was probably both combined. I wouldn’t recommend having such a big meal before lots of cocktails! The staff weren’t overly friendly but got rid of empty glasses very quickly which was great. Overall, I would recommend going here if you’re looking for a night out on the island, as it’s probably a rare find in such a quite place.

Friendly and helpful staff. The establishment seemed clean. It was a shame that this place was the only open around 4pm for a cuppa.

Sarah and Tristan were amazing. They are assets to your team. The food was good but the service made the night special. We came for my 18th and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you both.

We booked here for an evening meal while we was visiting the Isle of Wight for a holiday. I have never been to a slug and lettuce before but I imagine that they are all very similar, as hospitality chains are.We arrived around 7pm on a saturday and the atmosphere was already more that of a bar, with loud music and flashing lights darting everywhere - not quite what was we was expecting but it didn't stop us from enjoying our evening.The food was lovely and the cocktails were 2-for-1 all night, with no real limitations to which you could choose, which was a bonus!My only complaints are that it was very cold inside and some of the staff could have been a bit more pleasant. At the time of our visit, this place was definitely geared more towards the livelier folk, so from our experience, if a quiet evening meal is what you are after then you're probably best looking elsewhere.

Place was empty when we stopped here for dinner.Staff not that friendly. Felt like we were a pain for being there. 2 ladies there spent most of their time cleaning bottles behind the bar.Eaten at other pubs in this chain and food has been amazing.Not the case here sadly! Garlic bread was cheap, hard frozen rubbish and chicken didnt taste great either. A shame as I had raved about how good the food was and thought it would be the same quality as other branches....not the case. Will not be back!

Really poor service... waited an hour for our drinks. Awful. No apology for mistake... expensive and a total waste of money.

Had a very enjoyable meal here, with delicious food and a nice atmosphere, although one member of the party's order was incorrect, and as we had waited a while for the food (due to a lack of staff), we didn't see a point in sending it back. However, the staff that were there seemed friendly and helpful. Good Covid-19 measures were put in place, with a one-way system throughout the restaurant, several hand sanitising stations were provided, tables were clearly set apart from each other and social distancing was practised by everyone whilst in the queue. Would definitely visit again.

I, personally, have never had a bad experience. The staff are always friendly - a bit sparse, but that's not their fault. The cocktails are lovely and the food is always spot on and fast to come to you. Their vegan food is brilliant - a very wide selection. Sometimes the portions are on the small side but that is definitely reflected in the price. I genuinely don't understand the negative reviews, I must just be very lucky.

I popped in here last night with a friend to celebrate my birthday as I knew that they served the vegan Moving Mountain burger.It was absolutely delicious as was my friends cheeseburger. I was very happy to see a vegan dessert that didn't contain chocolate as most tend to and I don't eat chocolate.The blackcurrant bar sounded so good even my non vegan friend ordered it and we both agreed it was gorgeous. The waitress was friendly and helpful as was the lady who served my my drinks. Thanks for making me aware of the two for one offer on the cocktails. They were delicious. All in all we had a wonderful time. Thanks.

My wife, daughter and I had a burger that should have had slow cooked beef on it, how ever when the burger came out it was more of a chilli consistency cooked with mince and not slow cooked beef. There was no mention of a chilli base on the menu.The place was clean and not many staff around

Called in for lunch.  Place was empty except us, it was early.  It did feel rather like a disco setting before the night starts.  The food was OK, we had a chicken wrap to share and three Cappuccinos.  Staff were prompt and friendly.  £13.34 for three of us was good value.  The floor seemed sticky as you walked across it which does not give a good impression.

Called in for lunch, pleasant, calm and relaxed atmosphere, clean and easily accessible, polite and engaging staff, professional behaviour and excellent presentation of food.

We were searching for a place to eat about 8:30 in the evening and this seemed to be the only place available in Newport High St in walking distance of our Hotel. It is designed for young customers and for drinking primarily although the menu is very good and extensive. the staff were cheerful and happy to help and chat. The food arrived quickly and was very nice. The only downside is that it is a very loud pub with thumping bass music making conversation very difficult anywhere in the room. To be fair this is what the pub wants to be and we ( in our 60's) were just looking for somewhere to eat

Just popped in for something to eat with my wife. We have eaten here before but only for a burger. My veggie wife today had the butternut squash lasagne and I had a steak and I have to say both dishes were cooked to perfection. We even stayed on for a triple dessert dish which was also excellent and a coffee. The staff were excellent, especially our waitress Grace. I like this place. It's clean, funky, modern and clean. Would highly recommend.

Despite the rain it was worth the walk to get here. Quick service by friendly staff. The food is of a reliable standard and economic. Clean venue, tables and facilities which is all we wanted.

Stopped into the Slug & Lettuce for a breakfast and was so impressed by the service, it was clean and the food was delicious.

popped in for vegan nachos with the wife, what I will say is nice atmosphere and friendly staff. food not great though, and pretty convinced the vegan mayo on the nachos was dairy sour cream, but in fairness could have just been horrible.

I think the only people in here were the ones who didn't want to watch the football in the Hogshead nearby. Staff not bothered about serving us, when they did the beer was very poorly kept (to be polite). when nobody seemed interesting in serving us food we chose to leave telling them the beer was undrinkable. the staff seemed unphased by the criticism, they must be used to it.

My wife and I come here for a lunch break and were very very happy!!

Thank you so much to the team for organising such a great event for us! Kristie had set up a fantastic spread, great entertainment from Dave, all looked after from Kat and Chris. Everybody had such a great night. Those that popped in for "one drink" ended up staying all night!! Great cocktails, plenty of Prosecco, sore heads next day... But totally worth it! Thanks again for organising such a fantastic party!

My friend and I went here for lunch today and ordered the Reuben burger and paid the extra to upgrade to the Wagyu burger which was advertised as with "creamy garlic mushrooms and camembert". On arrival, there was no sign of either and on asking the staff we were told that the upgrade was to the Wagyu burger which is a better burger and that the mushrooms and camembert were not included. Although the food arrived quickly and was tasty, we feel the £2 extra each was not worth paying just for an apparently better bit of beef!

Went into the old yates in Newport isle of wight. It's now been turned into slug and lettuce. The decor is nice and the staff friendly. Shame the food and drinks are not the same.

On a business trip, thought I'd have dinner here on 2nd night. Ordered a chicken pie.... The mash was meh... Veg was at least fresh, but the pie... Was on max from the microwave.. the pastry seemed to be cooked via blowtorch... Overall ... Burnt your mouth, whilst pastry just flaked! I'm not a gourmet person, so this was just...meh!

We visited on Christmas day 2018 after searching online for a place to get a reasonably priced Christmas dinner whilst visiting the IOW over the Christmas season. The Slug and Lettuce came out top of the list as (at the time) we were trying to find a place that was 1) Not too expensive and 2) Dog friendly.

I had beef chilli,Kerry had a chicken wrap with sweet potato fries,both were excellent and good value for money.Will definately go again

After a bit of a nightmare elsewhere for breakfast we decided to come to the slug and lettuce for lunch as we were too late for breakfast. We ordered and were served almost immediately, our drinks were delivered promptly and when the food arrived it was amazing. Hot, tasty, well portioned and, most importantly, it was well cooked. Can't fault the service at all and the atmosphere was great.

This is the place to go if you want Cocktails, the list is extensive and good value as you get 2 for the price of 1 !!!

I went in with friends and enjoyed a nice meal, food was presented well and tasted good. The staff were very friendly. We all ordered cocktails, the drinks were all 80% ice, at an average of £5.50 a drink, thats some expensive frozen water! I would go back for lunch/dinner but will not be buying from the cocktail menu again.

Friendly helpful staff in a clean air conditioned bar restaurant. Good choices for vegans and the dishes were fairly priced and absolutely delicious! A must stop for a relaxing lunch break

Just had great meal,service and cocktails here.Cant fault any of it.p it not one in Sandown but will be back here soon.

Had lunch there today and I was somewhat disappointed to say the least, we ordered and paid for food and asked for the receipt, we were told it would come out with the drinks, the drinks and food came out with no receipt to which we asked again, we had sharer starter and it came out with the main course and the mushrooms were cold inside and so was the chicken so we didn’t feel we could eat it, finally the bill came out with an apology that we had things on our bill that we didn’t order or get so we were given a refund for it, we began to work out who owed what to find out that we had been charged more than the menu price for other items, we said about it to the staff and received our 3 rd lot of change!! A bit suspicious to say the least, all in all very poor, also things to note under staffed, toilet seat broken, no soap in the toilet, I will post a photo of my receipt to prove the times I was over charged, also this is 1st bad review I’ve ever left on TA.

Only giving 2 stars as in the past when I’ve visited it has been quite nice in here. However when my boyfriend and I visited on Friday - despite it being empty bar about 4 other tables - the staff were rude and seemed like they just didn’t want to be there.

Visited during jazz weekend great food, lovely music and the staff couldn’t of been more welcoming. Will definitely be back!

I was surprisingly impressed. The food was pretty reasonable and the cocktails were tasty. An improvement on Yates.

The slug and lettuce has replaced the cesspool that was yates, and the change of decoration is nothing short of shocking, in a good way. When I first walked in i couldn't believe it was the same place that use to be yates. The new slug and lettuce looks amazing, and i believe could become a popular spot IF they maintain standards.

Anything is better than the previous Yates! The refurb looks fantastic! We ordered a meal and the food was lovely however no one cleared our table when we finished so after an hour we decided to go and find a staff member and the table was cleared, Likewise re drinks, we were sat at a small 4 seat table and at one stage we counted 16 cocktail glasses, no one was clearing tables and when we left at 10pm our table still hadn't been cleared. The cocktails were average, for the price we paid I object to a cocktail being 2/3 full of crushed ice, In one glass there was about 3cm of cocktail and the rest was ice. LESS ICE PLEASE

Had lunch brilliant sharing platter the food was very good and the staff helpful in choosing food and drink

I was pleased to see The Slug & Lettuce brand here and was a good selection of beers although as always a bit pricey. Having come from another venue nearby I felt the staff knew what they were doing and were quick to serve. I did however feel that I had stepped back into the late 90s. The music and style of the place seemed a little dated for a new pub (replacing Yates). Just an excuse to charge more for the beer and food???

Visited today and had a lovely lunch. The venue is lovely, great atmosphere and fantastic staff. We'll definitely be back.

Dropped in for lunch, 2 steak ciabattas & 2 Americano coffees. Waited for 20 minutes to receive 2 coffees, then had to ask waitress for them. Food took 40 minutes to arrive. However the Waiter apologised for the delay and explained that they were working with reduced staff due to last minute sickness. Food was excellent though.

Ordered 'superfood salad' claiming to include quinoa and more. Received bowl of lettuce with a few endame beans, tomato (not on menu),sun dried tomato (not on menu). Replacement meal of fish cakes, was little better, again served with lettuce claiming to be superfood salad. Come on guys, get your act together. These meals were poor, and greatly disappointing.

Went in and ordered and went to sit down after taking money the girl came over to inform us they didn't do decaf coffee. Which I the only coffee my mum can have due to her heart condition. Disappointing for such a large chains nor to even have a tin of decaf coffee.

Went for lunch yesterday. Had the burger meal with house wine. My wife had plaice meal with a gourmet salad on a good deal with a pinot around £17 for both meals, Not massive but I was stuffed. Staff were good , food was hot and tasty, all you need. Nice decor , thanks for a nice lunch guys

Finally a decent cocktail bar in Newport. Been to other Slugs and never disappointed. Haven't eaten here so far but the cocktails were great. It was 241 on cocktails. Very tasty! Only £8 for two. Nice midweek bar. 👍

Went to the new Slug & Lettuce in Newport Isle Of Wight today

Looks good from the outside, went in to find alot of tables reserved, absolutely fine no problem with this at all, we arrived just after 5, some tables reserved for 20.30?? Surely they could say, this table available until 20.15 at least anyone sitting there would know theu have to be gone by that time, that's a management thing to organise.

I was working in Newport and had an hour to nip out for dinner. This restaurant is near to where I work so I thought I would try it.

I came along with my son Simon and had a great night. The food was only surpassed by the lovely staff. Particularly Lorna who made every effort to make sure the Gaelic coffee was sublime!
