Very tasty food, and very friendly, good service. Nice atmosphere. Good value for money I think considering the prices everywhere are higher nowadays - Four of us, all had two courses and two drinks each, £170.

Very average meal. Had expected more. Lettuce with starter was slimy. Sunday roast very average, meat very fatty and tasteless, couldn’t cut roast potatoes but to n that could have been blunt cutlery. Very unimpressed

Stayed here with a disabled friend for two nights. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. However the young lady who was serving breakfast on our first morning was surly and unhelpful to the point of rudeness. To give one example, when we asked for some toast she glared at us and said the toaster had been switched off!! She made us feel that we were a nuisance and her attitude really upset my friend who had made a great effort to go on this break. She thought the girl's attitude was because she had to serve someone in a wheelchair. However we did find out later that the girl is generally unpleasant. In my opinion she brings discredit to Slater's Inn. On a positive note, by contrast the gentleman who served breakfast the next morning couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

The food was OK. Kids food (Chicken nuggets) very dry. My Daughter couldn't finish it. Rooms are starting to look very tired. Holes in the walls, a good dusting wouldn't go a miss. On a positive note, the beds are comfy. Lots of road noise, and a lack of sound deadening possibly due to single panes used in the windows. We stayed over due to being invited to a Wedding. In the morning all the wedding parties were seated upstairs, which is problematic if you have family who can't get up the stairs... The waiter seemed miffed that we couldn't make it up the stairs and explained that he would now need to set a table downstairs and that we, should have mentioned this at the point of checking in! How were we to know where breakfast was being served? We don't own a crystal ball! Lastly, breakfast was OK, the food was actually nice. The waiter however, didn't listen. I asked for no beans, and beans were served. I asked for a coffee, no coffee arrived, then to prompt him him again, I asked for a cup of tea, to which this was served by pouring it the over the table with a stern, breakfast has finished now and walked off with sugar that I was about to put into my tea! Miserable bugger! Will I be going back? You've guessed it, not a bloody chance!

Love Slaters. Staff are so very friendly and efficient and the food is very good and we eat there often. Yet, one issue today and I should have complained. My companion ordered the garlic and chilli prawns, delicious 😋 but the bread accompaniment was bread to bake and it wasn’t baked!! Pale and soggy!! I find this unusual for Slaters standard. If it wasn’t for this it would have been 5 stars!

The very accommodating staff managed to fit us in to the restaurant, at a very obvious busy time. On the specials board was a very interesting offering......pigeon, pheasant and I think guinea fowl suet pie. The interesting turned out to be absolutely delicious. It was so good that I had a takeaway for another day. The chef and the team are a credit Slaters and should be proud of their service and friendliness.

For us we normally would give Slaters a 4/5 star review. However on this occasion we could only give it 2/3 We ordered roast lamb which was quite tough. The meat appeared to be not cooked on the day but reheated from a previous day. This may have been due to us having an early booking. Also my wife’s desert was very bland.

Christmas Day lunch 2023,£100 per person. Lukewarm welcome ,I know it’s Christmas Day but if you work in hospitality then that’s the nature of the beast. Amuse Boucher, poor, pate a huge tasteless slab with one cracker ,no chutney. The Christmas dinner was mediocre a large piece of turkey wrapped around a pig in blanket making it look far larger than it was ,very few veg ,no mash and bullets for sprouts,Christmas pudding was nice ish!! All in all very disappointed and overcharged for drinks. Some staff were in jeans and looked scruffy,Andrew as always the gentleman. We come to slaters every 2-3 weeks and always enjoy our menu choices ,sadly Christmas lunch was a massive fail. Mrs N Booth .

Called in for lunch today to escape the awful weather. Pleasant cozy atmosphere with the wood burner lit and glowing. Staff were friendly. My husband had the doom bar and said it was an excellent pint. Plenty of choice of food including specials. I chose the roast beef dinner my husband the lasagne (large) Both meals arrived hot and great portions Thick slices of roast beef perfectly cooked homemade Yorkshire pud and plenty of vegetables and gravy it was excellent. Husbands lasagne was piping hot and he said it was delicious . He doesn’t like garlic bread and they brought him chips instead. He said even the salad was good! Great dressing.Couldn't manage a pudding we were too full. The quality and price were reasonable we would definitely return when passing this way again.

£100 each for Xmas day dinner in a cramped room with a middle of the road food offering. Why the tables eere so close together is beyond me (and the people sat around us). The staff were , well, let's say not full of Christmas cheer and seemed to have little training. Asking for a pint of lager, I was told it was only served in the other bar, which is what 10 metres away? I did get it, but it seemed an onerous task. 3 coffee cups presented were chipped, 1 dirty. We didn't complain, recognising that Xmas day for the staff working isn't perfect, but we were disappointed and won't be back.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday at Slaters. First meal out since lockdown so was really looking forward to it and boy did they impress. Upon arrival a very friendly staff member took our temperatures with a hand held device and our name and contact details which are held for 21 days in case they need to contact us due to the Virus . We were then seated on a reserved table situated in the beautiful garden courtyard with plenty of space between other tables. We were offered drinks as soon as we sat down and the waitress brought them over. We then ordered food, chicken wings to start which blew my mind. So fresh hot and TASTY! Then came the Thai chicken curry, with fragrant rice and naan breads and a cheeky side of Slaters homemade fries.( they also do hand cut chips which are amazing too)My wife and kids had the Roast Beef dinner with Yorkshire Pud OMG ! all this with two ice cold pints of Stella made this the best Sunday for months. It's a good job that the food here is good because the welcome and initial service left a lot to be desired. Despite booking a table, and arriving on time, 3 staff chose to ignore our presence at the bar on our arrival. We waited patiently until a member of the staff realised that she was going to have to stop putting glasses away because no one else was going to serve us. Rude and disappointing. When seated we still had to go to the bar to order our food, I had hoped they would be slightly more attentive after the poor start but it has certainly made me rethink where I'd go for a good Sunday lunch.Shame really as we've been before and it was good, like I say, I can't fault the food but first impressions count and yesterdays was well below par!

To say that the awful mess that was provided fell below standards would be absolutely incorrect. That would imply that slaters had any standards at all, to be clear, they do not. From the rude and abrasive lady we had the misfortune of being talked at on reception to the farcical mess that was supposed to be a wedding dinner. Missing glasses of champagne for the guests to being denied bread then watching the staff eat them in the kitchen. Try to speak to the host about your issues and you are promptly reminded that this is a wedding, we shouldn’t discuss failures at every level because it’s someone else’s day. If only I could attribute that get out clause to the rest of life... Onto the rooms, if you were a child in the 70s it could be a nice throwback, even nostalgic, I wasn’t and therefore it was just outdated and tatty. Like the service. I then had the pleasure of talking to the general manager. Suddenly it all made sense. With an attitude like that I’m not surprised slaters is lacking in every sense of the word. Just an obvious lack of skill and customer service. Find somewhere that appreciates your occasion and is not simply overcharging anybody that walks through their door with embarrassing service. They only care for your money, nothing else.

Looked for a pub restaurant within an hour of Oulton Park and Skaters came up at £75 for bandb for two. On arrival was informed that we were being upgraded to a suite? In fact they are mini cottages without the kitchen or at least...

went out with some friends for a bite to eat at slaters which i hadnt been to in over 10 years. first impressions excellent - nice atmostphere, fair choice of food, nicely priced. went upstairs to the granary, nice white tablecloths, candles etc. chose the mussels then the steak and stilton ciabatta. everyone else chose the steak and kidney pie. mussels were ok bit small but nicely presented with finger bowl and spare bowl for the shells. howver once the steak and kidney pies arrived, messy presenttion, bland veg and although the steak part was nicely cooked, as my husband described the kidneys as 'tough as old boots' and nearly spat them out. the other pies were the same. we mentioned this to the waiter and the young duty manager immediately apologised and took them off the bill. i just want to mention that we rarely complain. Then as we were still eating, the waiters started clearing tables, spraying and moving tablse, clattering and shouting, for the wedding breakfast the next morning, so i understand they have to prepare, however not conducive to a relaxing meal - i thought this inconsiderate and yes, staff are working to set time, but you don't expect this in good establishments. i just want to mention that the mens toilets had bowls underneath the urinals - not sure why, but apparently the toilets smelt. so all in all, average - gone downhill and lack of nice touches - ladies toilets tatty.maybe i'm picky but very disappointed and will probably wait another 10 years until we go again.

We attended a lovely family wedding here , and it was perfect. The venue is set in the countryside ,in grounds that host small retail outlets that compliment wedding planning and inception. The staff were amazingly helpful and everything went without a hitch , espcailly when we arrived early expecting to be able to get into our room to get changed for the event, thanks bride for giving us the wrong check in time!!!! The rooms are lovely especially the family room on the courtyard , very clean, lovely comfortable beds and quiet too. Breakfast was more than adequate and cooked just like home! Thanks to all for making a very very special wedding complete. Wedding breakfast was huge !

This is the second stay (the first was with my wife and midweek) - the staff are always welcoming and hospitable. Rooms are well appointed and clean. The pub food is good with enough variety for vegetarian and non vegetarian. There is a good selection of real ale. The hotel is a function centre so Fridays and Saturdays (with an event on) is not quiet and the disco does resonate and would likely trouble those who need peace and quiet to sleep. Midweek it was very quiet. Breakfasts are good but not great but I would definitely stay again though would be more circumspect in selecting this hotel if it were a weekend.

It's unusual for me to write a review whilst still in the venue but this place is unusually good. Everything about Slaters is just perfect for me. From check-in onwards it's been fantastic in every way. The staff are wonderful, caring, professional, interested, not overbearing, friendly - either it's just an incredibly friendly part of the world or their staff selection process is world class. The room (118) is fantastic, the bar lovely, the food lovely, I honestly cannot fault it. I've stayed in "better" hotels around the world but can say with absolute sincerity that pound for pound this little hotel is up there amongst the best (even the regulars in the bar are really nice). If it were not so far away from home this would be a regular stop for me and I'd invent reasons to stay. I'm happy to say that I'll be working away from home for some time now and I'm cheerfully not looking anywhere else. A real home from home. My only "con" is the mobile phone reception but obviously not their fault and it was only me, my colleagues were fine.If you're in the area at all do not look elsewhere - you'll thank me.

We went for Sunday lunch. We were greated by friendly staff and sat upstairs to eat which was very pleasant. Simon made us feel welcome and he made the experience all the better. The menu was simple but offered sufficient variety without being extensive. Everything on the menu is home made and well presented. The puddings were fabulous. Thank you Slaters for a good lunch, pleasant surroundings and great staff.

very enjoyable meal here. Good home cooked roast beef, no frills just well cooked food, well presented with good service. Chose this meal because it was Sunday but there were many other tempting items on the menu and specials board.Restaurant was busy but snug with a massive log fire on a stormy day. Will go back soon

Prebooked a table for four on Saturday night. Good enough variety on the menu and for a fair price. Prompt service and interesting out-of-town venue. Only minor problem was paying the bill by credit card needed a short walk to the accommodation entrance counter.

We've visited Slaters many many times over the last few years and whilst the food is perhaps a bit on the expensive side for pub fare it's usually been of decent qulaity .We visited this evening for a bar meal and have a few observations which will hopefully be a constructive form of criticism. Our orders at the bar were taken very quickly and we sat in the bar area enjoying our drinks whilst awaiting the food. Service is usually a little on the slow side but we've always felt that this was due to the food being properly cooked. When the meals were delivered we noticed a couple of issues:1.No vegetables with the steak pie and chips . After a few minutes waiting we popped over to the bar questioning why the veg hadn't been delivered and, hey presto, it arrived shortly thereafter 2.The better half ordered a burger and was interested to see that the pancetta mentioned on the menu as a garnish was missing. We questioned the waiter/barman who initially suggested that this may be part of the burger itself ............on checking with the chef he then delivered a freshly cooked piece for the mrs to add to the topping on her burger! The burger was well enjoyed but I have to say that the steak and ale pie was VERY poor indeed. I've enjoyed this as a main course here many times and it has been lovely but today's offering was amongst the worst I've had. The usually tender meat was of VERY inconsistent quality indeed and whilst some of the pieces were sort of OK the majority was tough to the extent of almost being gristle. For a £12.95 bar meal it was extremely poor .One wonders if there's been a change of meat supplier or perhaps it was just a poor cut of meat ?On settling the bill we were asked the usual question if we had enjoyed our meals and responded that we were very disappointed with the pie. No further questions were asked so I guess the answer just wasn't really of interest? The jury is now out as to whether or not we will go back which will be a shame as it's just down the road for us but there are lots of nearby places competing for our business .....!

Visited slaters for Sunday lunch. When we arrived the wow factor hit as soon as you pull into the car park. Upon entering the restaurant it was once again a wow factor. I would highly recommend the prawn skewers for starter they were lovely. When the main course was finished unfortunately my grandmother felt ill. I would like to say a big thanks to the waiter who was caring and also brought my grandmother a glass of water. Overall a great experience and I will be returning.

Our intentions were to go to another local Wether spoons but this is closed for renovations. Sat at a unclean sticky table as we had no choice. Had to literally ask where are my Crisps as staff too busy dancing about to pay any attention! Then we received the wrong ones but would of waited ages to get proper ones. Staff spilt a shot over my Dad which they will be billed for if the stains don't come out. Food well Dad enjoyed his but my food was cold. Disgusting they had no Mayo at all and the Tomato sauce was rebottled. Chips were that hard I had to soak them in Vinegar to make them edible. Day light robbery for a bit of cheese. Won't come to this Spoons again and went to another after so to keep our sanity. Never again.

Stunning old pub in the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme. It had a decent atmosphere, even at 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon, with friendly staff and a coal and wood fire at opposite ends in huge, traditional fireplaces. It's a Joules brewery pub, with Pale, Blonde, Slumbering Monk, and their lager - all of which are well priced and pleasant. Bear in mind it is cash only, though Lloyds Bank has cash points 30 second down the ginnel opposite.
