Skewers Kebab & Grill Chelmsford in Chelmsford

I think this was actually the worst doner kebab I've had. It was rock hard and was unedable. I called to complain and got offered a free kebab next time but dont live in the area and only staying for one night so not very helpful.

I knew I shouldn’t have bothered after problems with my order in the past but fancied a kebab and thought that by now they would have got their act together. But no. I ordered 2 kebabs, 1 chips, 1 potato wedges, 2 burger sauce and 1 chilli sauce and a salad. What I received was 2 boxes of meat to put inside 2 pitta breads that you couldn’t tear apart, 1 portion of chips that were barely edible, 1 chilli sauce and some hot curry like sauce. The salad was ok. I phoned and was put on hold several times, wedges were apparently off the menu but they hadn’t had time to take them off the app. They reckoned the chips were a double portion (they were not) and human error not sending the burger sauce. The curry sauce was complimentary! To make matters worse I was cut off the call and had to call several more times before they finally answered. Nothing resolved and of course the promised phone call from the manager never materialised. Do yourself a favour and don’t spend your hard earned cash at this abysmal takeaway.

I have had quite a few lovely takeaways from Skewers and have put on glowing reviews. Heard it was under new management but hoped the quality and service would still be as good. They weren’t. Firstly it took an hour and a half for my meal to arrive even though the website “tracking” was saying my meal had been delivered for the last 20 minutes of that time. When it arrived the bags were wet on the bottom and I was warned to hold them underneath so the food wouldn’t fall out. On looking the bag with the salads in looked as if it already had fallen out. One of the salads and one of the sauces were open and upside down (he seems the wet bag) Despite specifying no cucumber (due to an allergy) all three salads had cucumber in making them inedible The two kebabs were cold and the meat was over cooked and dry. Several bits were so burned I thought they had put charcoal in by mistake. The doner meat and fries used to just be meat and fries but this time it was covered in loads of salad and masses of a white sauce (mayonnaise?). The salad had loads of cucumber in it so this dish was also inedible. Even without the cucumber it was stone cold and couldn’t be microwaved as it was covered in salad and Mayo. The two kebabs were cold and we tried microwaving them but the meat was so dry and tough they also got binned. All in all the meal cost £25 and 98% went in the bin. I rang the shop and the girl sounded as if she’d heard it all before. They had been rushed off their feet but she would get the manager to ring me back. Unsurprisingly he didn’t. So sad to see the best kebab shop in Chelmsford become this bad in just a few months

The service was honestly ridiculous! I ordered my food and three hours later I never received it. Currently trying to get my money back. Spoke with the staff three times and I was advised that it would get sorted and by the end of the night I never received anything. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone honestly disgraceful!.not worth anyone’s time.

My food was amazing good flavor & very generous with the quantity of meat, chilli sauce was nice too. Will return for more.

Chicken shish kebab where did you get it from a can of smart price dog food. Not impressed. Looked as appetising as it tasted, don’t get me started on the Donna kebab. Just imagine the sole of your grandmas slipper and put it on a pice of bread that looks like it was made in the 18 hundreds. Thank you but I will not be returning. And the worst of all it cost £30 for 2 kebabs and chips.

Tasty chicken shish wraps and mixed kebabs, delivered in an hour. Food arrived warm. Happy customers here.

I literally just signed up to Trip advisor and leaving a review for the first time in my life. However I want to make everyone aware of how terrible the food is here so that you do not make the same mistake. I ordered two peri peri burger meals and when they arrived the horror started. Misleading! the burgers were fried chicken steaks rather than freshly grilled peri peri chicken breast, tasted stale. Salad was moody and the chips clearly have been cooked in the same reused oil that has been sitting there for days. Chips were stale! I can not believe they get away with selling this crap to people.

For an individual who works in hospitality and retail this is the worst customer service i’ve received. Mahi, the manager continued to insult and slander me on the phone after his team made a simple delivery mistake of giving the food to the wrong address. I received a knock on the door, the delivery driver telling me food had been delivered to this house, although i didn’t order food. The driver, which our family knows personally, claimed that the food was for the us as a Gift (its the 24/12/2020). One of the members of my family was out and I ask if the order was for that family member, just to be sure. He continued to say yes. Then puts in my hands. The order came with no receipt so i was unaware of the address or the name. we also messaged the driver personally saying thank you for the order he replied no worries. the neighbours knock on the door an hour later, asking if we had their food. We explained the situation to the neighbours. The delivery guy made a mistake.Instead of saying nothing, we did the ‘moral’ thing , and called the restaurant and explained the situation but they refused to hear what happened, in denial that him and his team made a mistake.i’ve been to this place a few times and i’ve always supported the business, given that it’s young people trying to make something of themselves. But the service they provided was beyond disgraceful. Even outside a job role you would expect individuals to treat each other with respect. I received abuse and was insulted on the phone, when telling them that they made a mistake. My family of 5 heard mahi telling me that i am not ‘moral’ and i should be ashamed of myself for taking what was not mine. Initally, i was willing to pay for a new meal to be delivered only if the neighbours got refunded. However, they refused to refund them and since i have self respect and i refused to give this business money after Mahi disrespected me on the phone. He even had the audacity to charge me for the mistake that he had made after he had insulted me, suggesting if i didn’t pay i would be a bad person.Bare in mind that we are in a pandemic, it’s tier 4 in chelmsford, the manager expected me to deliver the food to the neighbour after the driver has just placed it in my hands. Every restaurant should be enforcing covid policies as it’s the law. Therefore, he should know that you can’t just take food from one house and then take that same meal and give it to someone else. Moreover,this is a general rule in hospitality but it’s more significant during this pandemic. Do you see deliveroo taking their orders back and or getting other people to deliver for them??? Additionally, there are multiple houses, so i would have been going door to door putting myself and other people at risk. This is basic health and safety.. The ‘moral’ thing to do would have been refunding and a re delivery of the order (TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS ). As the family had to wait longer for their dinner. I suggested this , but mahi was talking over me still making it known that i was apparently a disappointing human. Talk about moral.. he still charged them for the meal..

Ordered before seikh kebab chicken was okayish, last night i ordered the chicken kebab, IT SMELLED DISGUSTING !, Taste was bad,, burned...UNEDIBLE !!!I Swear i threw away the whole meal, along witht he order some humus which was bland and tasted badI would never recomend this place to anyone after this.....THE KEBAB WAS THROWN DIRECTLY TO THE BIN !Online delivery by Just EAT.

First time trying this place. I was told the order would take 40 minutes, 1 hour later I called and was told it was 15 minutes away, 30 minutes later I called and was told it was 5 minutes away. 30 minutes later I called to get a refund as the order never turned up.

We ordered a takeaway from here as never tryed it and heard good things. I ordered a chick wrap and a burger. The chick wrap was OK and the burger was terrible with moody salad that was brown in it and a soggy bun. Very very disappointed. Terrible

Food took 1.5 hours to arrive and when it did it was wrong. Phoned the restaurant and they said I had to take it up with just eat, and they also allowed a drunk customer to grab the phone from them and be abusive down the phone to me. Took me over 2 hours on the phone to just eat to get my money back after the manager refused to let me just come and collect my £18.80 myself. Do not use!!

Waited over two hours for delivery each time of phoning being told it was on its way. Wouldn’t have minded if it had been worth waiting for but it was horrible. Chewy lamb, dry chicken,Chicken donner tasted like it had been sitting around for hours. Sorry nothing good to say about it. Won’t be ordering again.

Awful experience - ordered food at 6pm took 90 mins to arrive, when it did arrive half of the order was missing 3 x Portions of chips and a pizza - called restaurant and they said they would send out but would be 45-60 mins - 75 mins past and still not arrived called again and they said it will be 15-20 mins at time of writing this 60 mins have passed still nothing - the pizza was a treat for my children and found this service disgusting and certainly would not recommend or ever use again

Third time ordering from Skewers and again the food was delicious! Best Kebab I’ve had in Chelmsford and the Halloumi side was awesome! Ordered over the phone although previously used their website which was also quick easy. Food was delivered quickly and contactless and was hot when it arrived. Portions are big and definitely value for money! Like that they also offer options for vegetarian and gluten free and have discounts for NHS and discounted offers mid-week. Well done Skewers! Will be ordering again very soon

I was annoyed that the half pounder was two thin burgers put together, they also forgot the cheese!! Two very very thin burgers pressed together so clearly not half pounders. Also the lamb shish was neither cooked on a skewer which was unexpected in view of the name of the place, or tasted like it was bbq’d or good quality meat it was grisly and fatty and sliced very thin and tasted like they’d fried the very thin fatty pieces of meat to death!I called twice and the person who answered mumbled and I couldn’t understand him very easily, maybe it’s just me but at the very least the person answering the phone should be legible and also I thought as it was on Baddow Road in the heart of chelmsford town that it would be good but I was very wrong.It was disappointing, just about tolerable but nothing to ever make me go here again and if you want any honesty about what they serve I suggest you look elsewhere also.

So, we've had food delivered from here before. It was nice. That's why we ordered again. But to be told to expect delivery within 45-60 minutes, and you're still waiting for food 1hr 20mins later... its not good. And when you speak to the owner on the phone and he tries to justify it by "I've sent food to Broomfield Hospital" .....its not ok. Food was ok. Delivery driver lovely. But sadly wont use again. Shame.

Have had 2 deliverys in the last 2 weeks. Food has been excellent both times. Hot and tasty, very friendly delivery drivers too. I have had mixed shish which was so tender and nice and also a dinner burger which was amazing. Will definitely be coming to visit once everything is back to normal! In the meantime I will be getting more delivered.

Enjoyed our meal, large portions and plenty of choice thank you.chicken cooked just right. Will be ordering again.

We are very disappointed with the service received from Skewers tonight. We placed an order skewers for delivery - 2 large sheesh kebabs, 1 lamb doner and a portion of chips. Sounds easy , right ? Well I am afraid not, what a nightmare it turned out to be. The food turned up with the delivery driver, no salad / sauce in sight. We managed to get the delivery driver before he left, he had 2 salads / sauce in a bag, he forgot to pass over not the 3 that were requested with each of the kebabs. One of the salads and sauce for the lamb kebab was missing from our order. We phoned up skewers to inform them of the missing salad and sauce. The person who I spoke to on the phone said ‘well I don’t know how that’s happened’ well it’s an easy mistake to make, it’s not been put in the bag. The guy on phone stated in as much words it would be pointless coming back to deliver our missing salad. The thing here is, we are the customers, we are paying for a service that has not been delivered on, therefore it should be rectified. He said the salad would be half an hour, to which I said the kebab would be cold by then. He then agreed to deliver a new lamb kebab with salad / sauce in half and hours time and abruptly hung up the phone with no apology! Half hour came and went and no food arrived, therefore time for another phone call. So the same guy answers the phone , i ask where our replacement kebab is, to which the reply is another half an hours wait! How is this acceptable ?! I end up having to drive down to Skewers to pick up a replacement kebab and still no apology on the second phone call with the promise that if I phone up when I get there the food will be delivered to my car. I pull up and make the phone call, and the food is not bought to the car, my passenger gets out of the car goes in to skewers and 2 of the staff laugh and find this whole situation amusing. The customer service from Skewers is disgusting, it was an easy situation to rectify, but I’m sure skewers had no intention of delivering a fresh kebab and with all of this there’s no apology for being inconvenienced to go down and pick up a mistake that they had made.

We ordered our food over the phone. Was told we would be waiting 1.15 hours. After that time our food arrived. Unfortunately only half our order - no one had a complete meal. Phoned them and they apologised they got it wrong. In fairness our food turned out half an hour later - all completely wrong again - it is now 8.45 so won’t be wanting a re-order.Food is so delicious and best around. However, we stopped using them as they kept getting our order wrong, then they shut down. When they reopened thought we would give them another try. Until they can sort themselves out and give complete orders we won’t be using them again which is such a shame.

We ordered two kebabs, 1 large chicken shish and 1 large mixed shish. They were tiny portions. The chicken sheesh in the attached photo and the mixed shish had 4 bits of chicken and 4 bits of lamb, which was tough.

Simply awesome kebab wrap, burgers, popcorn was yummy. I will order more sure. Delivery also good on time.

I’ve been eyeing up this restaurant for a while and decided to try it out. No one could be bothered to cook so between 4 of us we had a good selection. Worst takeaway ever. Nice and prompt but to be expected on a Monday. The burger was cheap meat , overpriced and not a bit of seasoning or taste. I had the chicken Donner and it was swimming in grease that the pitta couldn’t stay together. The chips were far too thin and look like they came from the Brakes Website. It seems no different from any takeaway you could get in London. With so many food options available in Chelmsford they should really up their game

Food is delicious, not too expensive. Very noisy with people celebrating similarly and everyone talking....but had a great time and would recommend the food and the facilities.

This place came up on my instagram with the most amazing pictures. DO NOT BE FOOLED THE MOST DISGUSTING KEBAB EVER. Absolute dog food. Embarrassing they actually sell this inedible dog food to people.

Have used skewers before and really enjoyed it. This time, sadly e were bitterly disappointed. 3 bits of dry overcomes chicken for a shish??? A ton of cold, rubbery chips and 2 pieces of overcooked halloumi thrown in a container with some lettuce chucked on top. My 6 year old was still hungry after a regular (3 bits of chicken) shish!!!! Bitterly disappointed and won’t be using you guys again.

A group of 3 adults visited this 2 of us had mixed Doner kebab and a drink, the other had the grilled mix kebab and a drink all for under £25. The kebabs were very tasty and generous size, they were cooked fresh, salad was done to your taste. Staff were pleasant and friendly. We will be going back in the near future, we ate in on this occasion and thought the free WiFi and charging ports were a nice idea. I am in a wheelchair it was easy to get me in as the front door was open, I am not sure how easy entry would be if door was shut. All the tables have fixed bench seats but I could have sat at the end of the table and not blocked the way, on this occasion I say on a seat.

Spent £22 on two meals and got greased soaked chips, a tough and chewy doner wrap and grease soaked mixed doner really contemplating not ordering again

Fantastic kebab once again everything about it was tasty salad was so fresh chips and chicken so nice as well.

Visited skewers for the first time after my night out... very clean place considering it was half 1 in the morning, friendly staff and my quarter pounder meal was delicious. Fully recommended.

Had a lovely Dinner With the partner . The food was amazing . Got to sit down and have it on a plate with Knife and Fork . Highly recommend The chill sauce . Will defiantly be My new local Kebab place .

I visit Skewers for the first time, and I was surprised for its kebab quality. I really liked it. It simply one of the best kebabs that I have ever eaten. I was very happy with the service too.

Absolutely Awful kebab - took one bite and threw the rest away and ordered from somewhere else. Kebab cold. Over cooked. Just disgusting. First time ordering from here and will never be back.

Very few restaurants in Chelmsford are anywhere near the standard of skewers. Food is absolutely delicious and comes hot, fresh and the portions are perfectly sized.
