Sizzling Spice in Reading

No poppadoms no draught beer and cash only which we were only told at end of meal so had to go to cash machine to get cash.

We went there for a Sunday buffet and I felt a couple of items were gone bad and after I reached home, I felt stomach upset / diarrhoea and needed to go to toilet few times. Will never come back again and will not recommend for friends.

Decent food but service was poor. Family of 7 went for lunch buffet. The food was alright but the service was poor. Hope its get better.

In general good service and a decent restaurant but my veggie Vindaloo was far too hot, like a madras involving a chilli powder spill. Yes I was warned it would be hot but I like a spicy curry and the many other curry houses I go to make a well spiced version, hot with potatoes and mustard seeds with plenty of garlic and ginger but not blistering like a Phaal. I felt I was being punished for ignoring the advice. Next time I will have a Dhansak here. I think everyone else enjoyed their meal. Drinks were £5.50 for a pint of Kingfisher or £6.50 for a bottle of cobra. Worked out as £25 per head for papadam/pickles, drinks & main including tip.

Good food, well priced, friendly staff

Recommended this excellent restaurant by the nearby Sure hotel and we weren't disappointed. Friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant has a relaxing ambience and the food and service was of a high standard.

Ordered a takeaway for 7 of us on 20/6/23. Discussed choices with manager beforehand and all of the group remarked positively, and independently, about food taste, value and quantity. There was no over sell or irritation with assistance . Charming staff . Food was fresh, tasty and plentiful with a good variety of unfamiliar dishes . Wholly recommend and would return for a ‘ sit down’ meal if in that area again . Tables were beautifully laid up and bar appeared well stocked. Thank you 😊

Unexpected visit as my hotel didn’t have a restaurant. Food nice and staff friendly

The food is still amazing. The quality is high. We had ordered Chicken Dansak, the Whole Sea Bass, Rice, Naan, Dhal, Bhindi Bhaji, a couple of glasses of wine, a beer and a jug of water. The whole experience from start to finish was very welcoming, friendly. The food had the right amount of spices so was very tasty and not bland. The restaurant was very quiet, however the take away was busy. We would eat here again and are planning to take friends who are visiting from abroad.

I have been there with my few friends. I really enjoyed their food and service was amazing.

Excellent food, and service,very polite staff

Tried this place out for the first time tonight and I wasn’t disappointed! I got the garlic chicken tikka masala, coconut rice and naan bread. The curry was one of the best I’ve had from a takeaway in reading! This is now my new go to Indian.

Overall good food , you can request to make it spicy (hot) if you like it that way. Had ordered lamb Biriyani and chilli chicken, good taste but would have preferred those to be little spicy as I requested for medium spicy. Would anyways go to this place if I feel like having Indian food around reading.

Disappointed after visiting. Went through the reviews and had high expectations. Food isn't pure Indian. Tasteless. Not worth the price at all. Very limited buffet options. If you are looking for Indian food this is not the place

Do not expect tasty, spicy dish when you order chaat, you will be disappointed. Ordered biryani, was served masala rice. Restaurant has perhaps blocked my review comments hence have to edit same one. Yes this is the same restaurant, I have got it right. Check your Veg Biryani quality and compare it with masala rice. I am sure any indian will find it same

Good variety of Indian food.The taste was authentic and had a good flavour overall.

Lamb was nice, but there was not a lot of taste for the Indian pallet. The lamb kofta had no flavour and same with the curry

Worst chilli paneer I ever had in my life both in taste and in quantity. What a disappointment. Typical example of using Asian/Indian name without knowing any recipes.

Worst food ever tasted, ordered biryani which looked and tasted like stale rice. Would not recommend. Servers were hovering over making the dining experience uncomfortable.

This was my second visit to the Sizzling Spice in the space of a week or so. Sadly my mum is having an extended stay in the Royal Berks Hospital, and the Spice is situated close to the hotel we were staying in, whilst visiting. We live in Manchester and are spoilt for fantastic quality Indian/ Asian restaurants, so often find ourselves underwhelmed when on our travels, but not so at the Sizzling. In simple terms the food is great, and clearly cooked fresh to order. On this visit I re visited the wonderfully spiced Sheek Kebab starter, (having enjoyed it so much on my solo visit a week ago) and once again it was on top form. My wife had the firery Paneer Chilli, described as rich in spice and flavour without blowing her head off. For mains a Brinjal Bhaji, Lamb Gosht Kata Masala (first visit) and a House Special this , were all well cooked and extremely tasty. You do need to come up with a better name than House Special though. It deserves a name. Raj our waiter was friendly and attentive without being over so. On both my visits the restaurant has been rather quiet. Time of year perhaps, money tight for everyone? Whatever the reason, the food deserves a bigger audience. If you live in Reading, use it or lose it folks. If your visiting and find yourself in that part of town, give it whirl.

We went out for buffet on Sunday lunch and we really liked their foods. They provided 4 different types starter, 5 different types of curries inc vegetarian curry. The drink is not included with the price but I personally find the price is reasonable. The dishes are tasty. It's a bit different than what we eat at home.

Realy good food, had a wonderful lamb pasanda with coconut rice. Mixed starter was good too.

Not a good taste, service is hideous and it's not at all welcoming, me and my family found rude behaviour from host whenever we were asking any question. Really bad experience, no value for money. I will not never visit this place again and would never recommend it to any of my friends.

I'm so glad I checked tripadvisor before ordering and came across this little gem!! Having only lived in reading since June this is the first indian take out I've eaten and it was out of this world!!! The Bombay aloo,chicken Tikka,cheese Nan were cooked to perfection and the lamb balti just melted in your mouth and the portions were generous too! Definitely be ordering from here again and recommend you do too!!:)

I visited this restaurant twice in one week. Monday Bank Holiday the King Prawn Biriyani was exceptional.. It was my Birthday on the Thursday. I recommended this place. My Biryiani did not have any real flavours in it. Chicken Korma only had 4 pieces of chicken portion sizes were small. food was cold. I was disappointed. I will stick with Garden of Gulab in future they are consistent.

The food was tasteless there was no dessert just some warm fruit Salad which was not good . I highly wouldn’t recommend from this place

Close to the University of Reading, this Indian restaurant is one of the best I have tried recently! It serves a wide range of Indian dishes from various parts of India. Tried the Hyderabadi Biryani that had chicken & minced meat, really liked it! Also had another curry dish with nan, that turned out to be great tasting too. Bottled Lemonade & other drinks are available. The prices for fishes about £ 9-13, but if you can make it on Sunday, there is a buffet for £10.95 adults & 5.95 kids with all you can eat! Service is friendly & the place is spacious & feels authentic, worth the bit of waiting for freshly prepared Indian dish!

Stayed in a local hotel so I ordered a chicken jalfrezi and pilau rice. This was The best curry I’ve ever tasted, lovely looking restaurant too. Thanks

The delivery driver hakeem is an absolute diamond, always goes above and beyond to keep customers happy & always polite and friendly,he came before the delivery time to! I haven’t ordered from here in ages but he still remembers me which was nice, food was nice and hot, korma & tikka was faultless 👌🏻

We visited this restaurant last night for the first time with friends who have been here many times and I can see why. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, the food was perfectly cooked and very good value for money. Overall, an amazing experience. We're not local, but will definitely be back.

Not a particularly picturesque location but quite a nice Indian restaurant with consistently good food. Can often get a park outside as well which is handy. Great onion bharji. We have been here several times and will continue to.

Nothing special about this restaurant. The food was ok but not exceptional. Price was on the high side especially the drinks. The ambiance of the restaurant was lacking as was the basics of a decent maintained toilet.

We went for Sunday buffet, they charge 9.95 per adult. All foods in the buffet are good and tasty. We loved all the non veg gravy and starters. Stand out dish was tandoori chicken wings. They got 4 different kinds of chicken gravy that went well with naan&rice. Worth for the money. Downside - No dessert menu and veg menu can be better.

My takeaway food was delivered cold. When I contacted the restaurant and spoke with the Manager he did not accept responsibility for the food being delivered cold. I was accused by the Manager of being a liar and wanting more food, which was not the case at all. Sizzling Spice is under new and aggressive management, which is such a shame as we have always had a good relationship with the proprietor. We will not be returning to Sizzling Spice, having been customers for more than a decade. We have reported the delivery of cold food to Reading Borough Council Food Standards Agency.

Lots of fake reviews, order they food and you will see for yourself. The food is totally tasteless!!!! no ginger, no garlic, no salt , no pepper etc... no taste! I feel like I should be paid for ever ordering it.

After racing at Ascot, we were struggling to think of somewhere to eat, after checking out places near our hotel we found this lovely Indian restaurant, what a lovely sunrise, 5 of us eating all of us commented on how lovely our meals were, we probably out stayed our welcome, but we found the restaurant comfortable and the staff all very polite and helpful, Thank You x

Sunday Buffet with unbelievable price for only £9.95/person & children under 10 years for £5.95. Fine Bangladeshi & Indian cuisines. Fresh & delicious foods for vegetarian & non vegetaria with various choices of starters, tandoori, curry, salad, rice and breads.

The restaurant has been through some tough times as others, but has now had a bit of a revamp with new furniture and has made it fresh. The greeting here was good, not hugely busy, but it was a Monday night! The service was excellent, drinks and poppadoms came quickly and love the chutneys that were supplied. The choice of food on the menu is really excellent....catering well for fish, meat eaters and loads for veggies. We had chicken tikka masala, prawn bound and paneer masala. The spice level is excellent, food was so so tasty. Their Nan bread is wonderful, puffed and slightly crispy. Drinks choices were good as well. The only issue here is parking is limited, but great bus service from the town. Please try this place, a bit out of the way BUT one of the next curry places on Reading in my view.

First visit to the Sizzling Spice for a couple of years and we were blown away by seriously tasty food with a wow factor from start to finish. A great evening and I'm genuinely looking forward to going back soon!

One of my favourite Indians. I almost always dine in and on Sundays they have an eat as much as you like buffet for £10!! There is always vegan options and the staff are friendly.

The food really isn’t that great don’t understand why it’s got so many 5 star reviews when I’ve had better and it was just average food nothing special. Chicken wasn’t very fresh at all, the prawn dish barely had any prawn in. It’s far too expensive for their price not worth it at all. Too expensive when the food is rubbish will not be ordering ever again

We ordered paneer masala, chicken biryani and chicken tikka from this place. The planner dish was like paneer in sweet tomato soup. Chicken biryani was just like normal rice with small chicken pieces. No taste at all. Not recommended.

By far the best Indian food I’ve had in Reading. Everything we’ve had is amazing, great customer service (via delivery) and it always comes very quickly. Too notch, highly recommend.

Been through a number of curry takeaways in Reading, many of which disappoint and at best are are a 'desmond' (2:2). This place brings a bit of flavour to the table and a bit of needle in a haystack. Just short of 'House of Flavours' quality, but the service levels is far better. Easy recommendation on this occasion.

We are happy regulars at the Sunday Buffet which is great value with always a superb choice of food. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere good. Recommended.

We were going to curry chef in Whitley but the front of house changed and has made the place very unappealing. A group of ten of us go out for beers on each other’s birthdays we spend a decent amount of money and expect a decent service, fortunately sizzling spice delivers this, very accommodating with enough staff that your not sat with a empty glass for very long. Food is on point and they are happy to adjust it for your own taste. Would definitely recommend. 👍🏻

Great buffet for a very reasonable price.

Food was good. My husband and I was looking for a place to eat couldn't find anything as everything was closing, and we was in the area for the weekend and we was super hungry so had to get a takeaway. Thanks to the restaurant they took our order and also gave us a 10% discount. Thank you. Food was really good. We ordered naan, peshwari naan (that was missing) king prawn puri, lamb biryani, chicken jalfrazi and with the biryani they gave us a free veg curry. Loved the king prawn puri as they made it very spicy for me, and my husband loved the biryani. Meat and chicken was nice and soft. Thank you sizzling spice.

1st stay in Reading ,thought we would love a Curry. Checked this place out on TripAdvisor. All good reviews. Decided to go .Restaurant is on a parade of shops and the area doesn't look too good, BUT Omg we went in ,very friendly staff .Food...

I work up the road and do shift work. I come here as a treat during my long weekends. It is the best curry I’ve had in Reading and the staff are always really friendly. I think they do the best Tikka Dhansak anywhere! They also kept me out of trouble when another curry house in Reading let me down at the last minute with a large group booking- they bent over backwards to fit us all in and make us welcome. I’m moving so I’m going to really miss the guys here.

We decided to eat here as it was near our hotel but it turned out to be a great choice. We had starters, i had king prawns which were excellent followed by a hot Naga curry which again was great ,the service was first class...

Service was rubbish and the toilets for women are disgusting

Everything in this restaurant is fabulous. Food, staff and atmosphere, all are amazing. Absolutely recommend it!
