Royal Tandoori in Reading

Ever since I visited this place with a friend who introduced it as "authentic Indian food with a home-like feel" a few years ago, I've been taking all of my friends there almost as an ambassador, but when I went this year, the food wasn't the same as before... It wasn't bad, but it wasn't very tasty either. It was a shame because I felt like it wasn't worth the price.

Absolutely amazing experience, a lovely place and great service, all the staff, but mostly Reha ( I hope I Spelled right) made sure the food and drinks were on the table on time!!! Thank you guys, see you soon!

We order the below frequently as a takeaway, probably the restaurant we order most from . the naan is allright ,But other stuff is top notch Butter chicken (can ask for a spicy version) Gobi Manchurian Paneer chettindu Chilli chicken Chole Dal makhni

Been hit and miss recently. Disappointed a couple of weeks ago but went with friends yesterday and the chicken chettinadu was really good. I will also highlight lack of toilet facilities. There's obviously been a refurbishment, which generally is good and made the room lighter, but there's only one toilet for the entire restaurant - an odd choice.

For a work day lunch the Royal Tandoori is a great place to visit. Excellent value.

Did the order via uber eats during not busy hours. Food is nice but they missed the itam and didn't deliver or refunded the itam. Delivery service is poor.

The food arrived barely warm and the tandoori meat was so tough it made my jaw ache. It was over £30 for something I really didn’t enjoy. Sorry. My son had told me this was the best curry house in Reading, that may be true, but not on this meal.

Food is not properly cooked. Absolute disaster. Money doesn’t worth. Ruined my day.

The food and service was superb, the only thing that was a bit disappointing was the condition of the toilets, they definitely require some attention, it wouldn’t stop me from returning though as the food and service was amazing, sort the toilets out and it would really be up there as one of the best Indian restaurants in Reading

Lovely food, portions are big. Couldn't eat everything needed to take home with me. Reasonable prices

This place is one of my favourites in Reading when looking for authentic Indian Cuisine. The food & ambience is fantastic & service is great, they even have buffets over the weekend which is great value for money. A must visit when in Reading town & just a 5 mins walk from the train station.

The place has a nice ambience, but the food doesn't really have authentic Indian taste. Wasted some money thinking the food would be good.

We have been coming to the Royal Tandoori for more than 6 years. Their service, quality of food and ambience of the restaurant has always been excellent. Have normally always booked on the phone but for the first time booked online with The Fork. When we spoke with the staff last night they guessed it was us and we had our usual table. Very enjoyable evening as usual.

Good food and service as normal

Very nice food. Non veg options are good. Rice, daal, Sewaiyan Kheer and hot gulab jamun was too good. Reasonable price for buffet.

My order never arrived. I had to pick it up. This is pathetic service and I need my money back.

Used to go here 6 years ago and was very good. I'm pleased to say it is still very good.

Great food and a reasonable price. Lacks atmosphere though and the loos are through an empty hotel lobby area that looks like a storage cupboard. Very strange.

Stop over in Reading so came to Royal Tandori have been here on a few occasions always had a good meal. Had the Deviled Lamb, boiled rice chilli nan. All stunning great value as well.

Basic Indian with a very very very limited menu. Fine if you don't like alot of choice.

Food was very tasty but kadhai prawn at almost £16 had four prawns in it, so not great value really.

Excellent dishes, ultimate quality spice, we strongly recommend jeera pilaf and tadka dal as staple accompagnements.

The food was delicious, but the service left much to be desired. It lacked warmth and felt unwelcoming, making me question if I had done something wrong.

Great food, I always make it a point to stop here any time I visit Reading.

Ordered mix of veg and non-veg food. Starters were stale. Chicken tasted sour and old. Lamb was also similar and not cooked properly.

This has got to be one of the best Indian restaurants that I have ever eaten in. The food is absolutely delicious. I would recommend wholeheartedly.

If someone gave me the option of a free meal here or being hit by a car, my first question would be "how fast would the cat be going?"

Good service and reasonably priced. Soup and sweet course good . Main course of chicken in sauce , tender chicken and reasonable vegetables, plenty of it , average to good. Could do with sharper knives. Coffee not to my personal liking and not sure why mince pies seem to be served in the summer. Regular function and improved over the years

A great venue for work colleagues to catch up and enjoy a curry

Went on a Sunday evening and hence was quite empty. I think Friday and Saturday remain crowded. Good food. The quality was excellent. Service was a tad slow, but that's fine

So we went here for the 1st time and the lovely lady who served us was very nice and accommodated, I ordered the chicken biryani and lamb achari and it was delicious would definitely go back, the only critic I would say is the man who slammed our glasses on the table like he didn't want be thier should be service with a smile

This is our favourite Indian restaurant in Reading, we always go back! Favourite dishes are: Achari lamb or chicken, kadai chicken or lamb, lamb rogan, garlic naan, peshwari naan.

Buffet is not a good option and is a waste of money. There were no good starters or main dishes in the buffet, despite it being called an Easter special. Serious improvement is needed. Other menu Pricy but ok for occasional

Probably the best "curry" restaurant in reading. Never had a meal that wasnt top rate. Be aware that you wont get typical things like madras here. The food is more traditional. But there are a number of spicy dishes if that's what you like.

The best curry I have ever had, staff were very friendly and the food was very well presented. The spices were very on point.

Bit strange during the refit where the tables are in a temporary area, but the food is absolutely OUTSTANDING! I adore this food, the wonderful flavours and the staff are just fabulous.

Ordered through deliveroo, couldn’t add a photo there, so coming here for wider visibility. Restaurant staff, can you explain this uncooked food and charged me 5.99£ for? If I get stomach issues because of half fried, uncooked dough, will you take the blame? I have ordered so many times from you, and you just lost a valued customer.

Tried buffet with family, good menu and tasty, enjoyed. Both north and south India dishes covered.

Bustling atmosphere, one of the few “traditional” curry houses left in central Reading though still a Dhansak desert… Capable staff and a good vegan section: I enjoyed the Bhindi Dopiaza with Roti though my friend found his 3 chilli 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ meat dish a bit spicy. Cobra or Kingfisher on draught. Could do with a lime pickle with pappadams. But overall a decent central curry house (done renovation ongoing until 10 Feb).

Butter Naans and Paneer Buttler masala not upto the mark.

Nice curry place. A bit of a strange building, maybe used to be a hotel. Nothing special, service was good.

Superb cuisine and customer service

First time did online and the food was delicious and all enjoyed. Second time I went for takeaway and biryani was bland definitely not like first online order. Third time I took my family and although the service was till 2.30pm then gentle man said closed at 2.10am. Felt racism amongst our own countrymen. I had to change the open to closed on the door and exit.

One of the best Indian kebabs I have had in UK.

We went for lunch and it was a disaster. We ordered a Royal tandoori platter . There were tandoori prawns, chicken tikka and lamb along with sheekh kabab. Tandoori Prawns were good. But all the other items were terrible. The chicken tikka was very dry. And the sheekh Kabab and lamb tikka were the worst. Lamb tikka wasn't even properly cooked. We couldn't cut it with a fork and knife. Not only that, the taste of it was awful as if we were chewing it like chewing gum made with raw meat. The same goes with the sheekh kabab also. For the main course we ordered aloo paratha and chicken butter masala. We were surprised to see that they don't have any idea about the differences between chapati and paratha. There was no butter/ghee/ oil on Aloo paratha. Chicken Butter masala with ready-made gravy was very sweet and average. After a successful devastation of our grand day, we decided not to visit here again😡.

The manager is very rude, gave us 45 mins to eat as there was no reservation and the place was almost empty

Had the set lunch menu this time too. It was a quiet afternoon - again. The single staff member was friendly. The place could do with a little bit of a spruce up (though it's in a reasonable state at the mo). The thing that peeved me though is that they don't let you take away food you don't finish! So not only does it go to waste - it's also a waste of money. Another thing of note is that the payment showed up at the ibis hotel on my card. Have they been bought over?

Awful food, one curry turned up split open all over the bag. Rice is nasty, naan bread chewy and saag paneer tasteless.

Had an amazing lunch with my family. The drinks were fantastic and tasted super good. Even the food was amazing. Will surely visit when we visit reading again!!

Food was quite good. Lot of vegeterian, vegan options to choose from although few options were unavailable on that day.Service was pretty ok as it took time for the waiter to come and take the order. Location wise, it was an easy and convenient walk from the train station. There is also paid parking close by. Overall a good experience but chances of improvement.

First -- Service was terrible... Tadka Dal -- They don't know how to cook, you will only get Yellow Dal, you ask them they say.. this is what we prepare and that's it... You only have a set menu and quality of food is not good. Having food there today... we had to skip our dinner due to stomach upset...

This is our absolute go to for an Indian Restaurant in Reading, can’t beat it. Great price, good service, and fabulous food. We find that we rarely need a starter as the main dishes surely finish off our appetite. Our staple order is the Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Lamb with Butter Naan, Raita, and plain rice, split between two makes a hearty delicious meal. The spice levels on the menu can be a little misleading, we found the butter chicken spicier than the masala for instance, and the Saag Lamb also had a bit of a kick, so if you don’t have a very good spice tolerance I would stick with Korma or Tikka. The restaurant makes it very easy to share dishes, and usually has a table open for us when we come in. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the restaurant itself is top notch, being cleaned swiftly and to a good standard between diners.

What a place, superb staff, superb food, best place we have ever been to, the whole of our family were blown away how good this place is. Can't wait to go again.

Really nice but portion sizes were smaller in the restaurant than if I had ordered a takeout from them.

Very poor service. Waiters showed attitude towards us. If u r showing partiality towards customers that means ur unfit for customer service. If u have self respect do not visit this place. Tandoori is the only worthy food here.

We visited this restaurant for dinner and we got a table right away. The waiter was friendly, and the service was fast. I did not realize the tandoori chicken and lamb were served on a hot plate. It was quite good, but I have to say the poppadoms are the commercial ones. It's rather tasteless, I do not recommend ordering them. The Naan was alright.

Poor customer service A tall man wearing glasses who attended us was so rude and has a bad knowledge in customer service He must either stop talking to customers or learn some politeness before he does😂😂 We will never visit or recommend any !!

First time & very impressed, lovely food! I have coeliac disease & find it difficult to get gluten free food on a night out! All the staff were great but in particular Mathew Gonzallis (not sure if I've spelt his name right) was very attentive & took time to explain what I could & couldn't eat!

Highly non customer centric, rude staff. Mr Matthew needs to know how to talk to customers. Food quality is hyped, can get much better quality food and much efficient service with a nearby Indian restaurant. Won't order again.

Honestly we have not tried the food, due to bad altitude and unfriendly hospitality from the lady working there, we had to walk away from the restaurant… just down the street there are couple friendly restaurants with nice food.

A place full of delicious menu items.

Really good food. Cooked well and served hot. Service was just right, not in your face but attentive.

I was in a party of 5 people and we are all lovers of Indian food, 2 are British from Indian families, but still foodies. Two had visited multiple times. This was my first visit. Overall the menu was not overly extensive with hundreds of options, it was boardering on sparse, but with key dishes for the major categories. We shared the Poppadoms and dips, which was good. We ordered an Indian beer to accompany the meal. We each ordered a different main, then some side dishes to share. The first thing that strut me was the large portion sizes, the prices weren't cheap but that was a bonus. We were able to share the mains and the side dishes, which made the experience among friends very pleasant. Overall the meals were on the peppery 🌶️ side, we did not order butter chicken. I did not know that Chilli Naans existed!!! The waiting staff were available but did not hover. The meals were available in good time, and the bill was also presented promptly when requested. We shared the bill and bid the staff a good night. Overall a very pleasant experience and I will visit again.

This is a very authentic Indian restaurant. The chefs here know what they are doing. The staff are nice too. My husband and I enjoy eating here ever so often. Best butter chicken
