Used to love this little bar, my husband and I would go for a date night tipple or two. You could find so many unusual gins that you don’t see in the supermarkets and you don’t want to commit to buying online until you’ve tasted first. The friendly experts behind the bar knew the best pairings and garnishes to recommend. It stood apart from all the other bars, as it was centred around gin (though you could get other drinks). Now with a standard drinks menu it’s just another bar. Yes, due to its size it still retains its intimate feel, but it’s lost the magic. Perhaps the owners are trying to shed its niche reputation, so they can attract a bigger audience, sadly in doing so I’m sure with its bland drinks menu I won’t be the only one that begins to forget its even there.

Second time we have visited Simpsons bar and it was even better than our first experience. Rachel served us on both visits, on our first visit she recommended the Ten Legs gin which was the perfect drink for us and has become a favourite. On our second visit, we had the pleasure of talking to the owners Anne-Marie and Derek who were both lovely, spoke to us about our visit and recommended their gin tasting events (which we will be booking). The bar is cosy, with incredibly friendly and knowledgable staff. Can't wait to come back and visit again.

Lovely visit yesterday, staff very helpful, felt very COVID secure. Very large selection of drinks on the app, the app didn’t lessen the experience in any way and staff were on hand for any questions. Fantastic selection, the most challenging part was choosing! The only slight down side was the amount of information required for booking, I don’t think it’s necessary for an email for all guests along with everything else required.

Booked a Friday night out out, was given a table by the toilet, the staff took our temperature at the table, and we asked to move. You can only order from one of the most complicated phone App’s known to man !...the list of Gin is long but it’s just a list, and when you only have a two hour slot in a dimly lit arena, all you do is squint and sit on your phone all night. Then came the bombshell of the price , £9.50 for a single gin and tonic...£12.50 for a double...by my basic calculation that is between £275 and £300 that they are retailing out a bottle of gin at. Even when you factor in a little fruit, masses of ice, and staff costs that is excessive. Track and trace forgotten by the staff even tho it was mentioned. In all the ambience was ok, but attention is needed to the toilet doors as the whole of the upper level just end up looking in the toilet as people don’t close the door after they come out. They also need to review the prices they offer as in my view this is greedy, we won’t be returning.

Top quality evening filled with flavoursome gins and a range of tonics to suit every palate. The gins we had were Mermaid Pink Gin, Ginting, Edinburgh strawberry and pink peppercorns and Puerto Indias strawberry liqueur. The box also contained delicious olives and quality potato crisps. Previously we have only experienced ordinary gins. We are so pleased that we have been introduced to these little gems. It was so lovely to spend time with friends over Zoom having a chat and a giggle but also learning about the history of gin and how to get the best flavours with the different tonics and botanicals. Rachel, one of the bar staff and our Zoom host for the night, was brilliant - what she doesn’t know about gin isn’t worth knowing! If you enjoy good quality, value for money and experiencing something different, this is for you. Well done Simpson’s Gin Bar.

A table of 5 booked several months back for my Hen weekend, we walked through the door and automatically asked by a woman ?owner who looked so inconvenienced by us, whether we’d booked. We said yes and said the lead surname twice to hear “No!” - errr yes that is the name! Then said the first name; “you’ve got the table til 8:30” and told to basically be prompt to leave for the next lot. We were then told endlessly and incessantly that they’re going to be so busy tonight so they only are serving cocktails from a limited list. Table area was nice and had table service. On several occasions members of our party asked for a particular gin in the booklet but basically told by this same woman “you don’t want that! It’s got all this hype but it’s not that good” and ushered to have different (most likely more expensive) gins. For someone (on their hen) who drinks a lot of different gin to be told “you don’t want that one!” is not only entirely patronising, an absolute joke, and poor customer service, it really left a sour taste in my mouth! Then, on leaving and trying to be prompt, we asked for the bill which the same woman brought. Then sat there an age waiting for someone to come back but in passing, the woman said “oh you want to pay on different card?! You’ll have to go to the bar as my machine doesn’t allow me to do that here.” Upon asking where we had plans next (The Bracebridge) she then pulled such a face as if we’d just told her we were dining out of a bin! On reflection, it was an enjoyable few hours of drinks because of the company in our party but completely let down by this pretentious one person. No. I won’t be recommending it. It’s “not worth the hype”.

Visited early on a Saturday evening. Was pretty busy but had a table reserved so no problems getting seated. Was presented with a menu but told some of the Gins were not in stock as they were about to change menu.Drinks were good and service was prompt and friendly. It is expensive and this is where I think it fails itself. The setting looks tired and unorganised. Piles of crisps stuck on the bar, boxes on tables in the window, computer on the bar which makes the place feel well messy. For the cost of the drinks I would expect something much better and more unique and fresh.Worth a visit but wouldn’t be somewhere I would rush back too.

I never write reviews on anywhere but this places definitely deserves a good review and a 5 star rating. Thank you to all the staff at Simpson’s gin bar for there recommendations of what other gins to try after the event, Shevaun made me a mojito and it was the best mojito I’ve ever drunk. We booked a gin tasting event more than a month ago whilst drinking in Simpsons on a Saturday night. We booked onto a Thursday night event and turned up expecting a group of people to be participating, however it was just myself and my wife at the event! We felt a little awkward about this to start with, but the manager Karen joined us to talk us through the history of gin and the tasting of 5 gins with appropriate tonics and garnishes. The experience was broken up with the arrival of a cheese board halfway through.

Came here with friends after hearing nothing but good things about the bar. However we won't be back in a hurry... due to the footy was not busy but had to wait almost 30 min to even order then to be told 3-4 gins out of stock. Surely not be expected in a gin bar! The house gins were nothing special and even forgot our garnish. Attention to detail is so important but just wasn't impressed with sloppiness. As a gin lover I can get a better gin in my local. Located towards the town end of the Sutton Coldfield High Street this beautifully decorated Gin Bar is a fabulous and much welcome addition, it only opened a few months ago and offers over 90 premium gins served with a variety of fevertree mixers, care is taken with each they all have suggested botanical options. Waiters and bar staff are very friendly and have a commendable knowledge of gin history. There is absolutely no need to book for a weekday or weekend daytime however it was suggested should we visit on a Saturday evening or were a larger party it was advisable so they can reserve your table. Currently there are not food options however this may change in the future. We will definitely be trying their Gin tasting evenings these were £25 per person for 6 premium Gins which are fully hosted. There are other spirits available and full menu of wines

This place could be so cool and a great venue. However, it's trying to be something it's not. It lacks that certain je ne sais quois. If you're going to offer a service which requires pre-booking and a doorbell to allow you in, then firstly please offer to take customers coats, the staff were pleasant but appreared to be nervous and were scurrying around. Not sure why the Simpsons chose this location. Taxis can't drop you outside as it's right on the pelican crossing so if it's raining, tough. We weren't told it was table service only so after we'd waited 20 minutes for the waitress to come to us we went to the bar, only to be sent away again. Tiny table for 2 so by the time we'd got 2 glasses, a bottle of wine, the unnecessary "light box" and a cheese platter on there, there was no room for plates, so it was perhaps a good thing we were given SAUCERS to eat from. As for the ladies toilet - well that's been mentioned in a previous review. It's a place you would try once and not return.

I so wanted to love this place but it just fell short of a good experience. It is clear that the management are new to this business-it shows!. The decor is special and it is a comfy hideaway. I would advise the staff to avoid pestering customers every few minutes -two on duty and both kept coming to us-at least 6 times in less than an hour .If you spill a drink at least replace the napkin and apologise. Don't assume the change is your tip without handing it back the the customer first. The list of gins is impressive but we were not impressed with the insipid and weak cocktails - for the price (£8 each) I expected a lot better. An online booking system highlighting that any food needs to be pre--ordered would be better than current system of emailing. I would love to return -just sort out the rough edges and you will be perfect.

Beautiful period surroundings , let down by low standards of everything else ! Coffee's were not sufficiently hot enough , & on complaining a waitress seemed somewhat puzzled as to how best to remedy the situation ! The food offerings faired worse , after ordering 'fish-finger' sandwiches , we were dismayed to find , the fish-finger ultra slim (approx 1/4 inch) with a 'dark' filling , on canteen style bread (pre-packed sliced ) , a reasonably tasty salad & tartare sauce accompanied ! I presented these facts to 'the manager' , he laughed & said , well you have eaten it all ! I replied I didn't say it was inedible , but very sub-standard, after trying to appease with 'cakes' I accepted a 50% reduction ! All in all our worst dining experience !
