We have been using this take away for years. I have chicken curry with no onion and boiled rice . My husband likes the king prawn curry with boiled rice . We also have the chow mein. It's all perfect. I also love their prawn crackers, they are not too fishy .love them Would definitely recommend

Not the best food. Ordered Crispy Beef with Peking Sauce, egg fried rice to takeaway. I live round the corner and when I got home the food was barely warm. Had to microwave it. The sauce on the beef tasted powdery,disgusting. Couldn't eat it. Never again. They are never busy. They need to up their game.

Without a doubt the best around and I eat out every day and every night not part time

Good food always quick and very tasty

Every week, my friend and I have a takeaway from the Silver Star. My friend has something different most weeks, but I cannot imagine anything anywhere tasting as good as their King Prawn Satay. It’s absolutely delicious and the portions are so generous and reasonably priced that I occasionally manage to restrain myself and keep half for the next day. I love the little Chinese woman - she always asks how I am and is so friendly and efficient.

Each time I get a meal I am more than delighted. It is piping hot and really good sized portions. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

My favourite Chinese takeaway, anyone who has been knows the iconic phrase screamed at the top of her voice "WHA YOU WANT" practically scared the bejesus out of me the first time I went in , she does the best pork chow mein in shields (I can't eat chicken so don't judge ) . Great grub after a few pints or after finishing work and you can't be bothered to cook, beats the one round the corner we won't name by miles. Would I go again ... about 2 times a week. I'm shameless

Used to use this takeaway when I was at college and still stop there when I’m travelling north. She always recognises me even all these years on, which adds to the nostalgia! I just wish I didn’t live 200 miles away so I could use it every night like I used to when I had no worries in life!

Absolutely lovely. Very friendly staff and great food plenty of choice on the menu and if you are waiting for your food to be cooked the lady behind the counter is more than happy to talk with you.

Mingin!!!! Scruffy outlook and a total waste of £25, greasy, foul tasting and not even hot. I wouldn't even give the dog it. Not recommended AT ALL.

Literally can't believe bad reviews of this place. I've been coming here for over 20 years and I've yet to have a bad meal. I phoned ahead tonight and order was ready when I arrived but often I call in and wait is never long. I'd highly recommend this take away.

Like happened to previous reviewers, the lady on the phone said no, when I asked if they delivered, then she put the phone down! Hungry, I phoned back and made an order to collect: it was a gorgeous meal, for all the family. Well worth the effort!

Tried the special fried rice dish and was well impressed. Had to wait a while for it to be cooked, but then again I always get suspicious when you get your food almost immediately that it was cooked for someone else who didn't pick it up. The prawns were crisp and fresh and the rice wasn't too greasy. The egg had been added raw and cooked with the rice, which is harder to do but makes for a much better result. The lady behind the counter didn't speak good English, but bless her what she lacked in language skills she made up for in enthusiasm and politeness. I don't know whether they still do the lunchtime specials, but if they do they're worth a try. Prices are very reasonable indeed, and they don't skimp on the portions to compensate for what must be a low profit margin. The menu is extensive without being over-complicated. The frontage could do with a bit of a makeover, but now I'm probably being a bit picky. One of the oldest takeaways in town - and one of the best.

The food from this establishment literally made me vomit, I have no idea what the hell they think they are doing with that chicken/domestic pet meat. I should have listened to previous reviews but no, I gave them a chance -.- More fool me.

Been using this takeaway for years and years! The whole family have done so since early 1980's. We have travelled the uk and no one has come close to their chinese curry or black bean sauce. Our order always consists of king prawn and chicken curry with fried rice, and chicken and king prawn black bean chilli with fried rice, also the chips too. Well worth the money! Just packed with chicken and huge! King prawns! The above reviews must be used to all the sugary chinese takeaway meals! This is traditional old school cooking! Try the above meals we order then come back and leave an honest review!

Regulars at the Silver Star, we haven't been served a bad meal yet, in addition they lady who serves us is always polite both on the telephone when ordering and upon collection in the shop. She usually recognises the voice and generally knows our order always double checking that we haven't missed anything. Tried numerous Chinese takeaways and this is one of the best!

The only thing worth buying from here is spicy noodles or the curry sauce, virtually everything else on the menu is tasteless crap, please avoid this place like it's the in-laws.First reviewer is pretty damn accurate. Ribs are just damn nasty.

I've tried all the Chinese joints in shields over the years, this is the best, been going here for 20 years. The tiny Chinese woman described in the first review is not rude, she has always been very reserved and speaks English fine if you engage in friendly conversation.

Service - served by a tiny Chinese woman who has the worst people skills in the universe, ignorant and a lack of English was evidently on the skills you posses when applying.Food - where to start.. Was supposed to be house special chow mein and BBQ ribs.Chow mein ... Thick with a brown horrible goo that tasted just awful so bad it made me heave (unfinishable), the meat in the chow mein was to put it plainly horrid, beef was gristle, chicken was like that of the sliced variety from your average supermarket.BBQ ribs ... Not barbecue at all, was a lumpy gravy that tasted like nothing I've ever had before and the lack of meat was simply icing on the cake.Please never eat here, I'd never slate someone's business like this if I wasn't so appalled.I'm not a picky eater, I honestly eat anywhere and almost anything.
