Silvano's in York

This restaurant was a great find. Food was excellent. We had a mixture of steaks, fish and pasta dishes with a lovely side selection of vegetables. All cooked to perfection. Dessert's were good to. All reasonable priced. Would recommend Silvano's.

From the moment you enter the door you think this might just be ok. The staff were superb. Attentive without being over the top. An excellent menu choice and really lovely food. Glad we found you and well be back

It’s always a pleasure to eat at silvanos you know that the food will be exactly as it should be because this is a chef that has his heart in every dish he cooks without compromise delightful food a beautiful restaurant and wonderful service in the centre of York nothing but true Italian and great value.

We called in for lunch on Saturday. We enjoyed starters followed by main courses. They offer an extensive menu. The food is excellent. The service was very good. We will be back.

Fantastic food, good service, good portions and reasonably priced. Highly recommend, will definately be back.

Saturday night. January. Our favourite Italian was closed so venturer elsewhere. Found Silvano’s. Reviews looked good. Looked ok from outside. Menu and prices looked ok. Gave it a try. Early table 6.30. Almost empty. No atmosphere. Disappointed so far! Service spot on. Almost authentic Italian. shame about the music though. Not Italian. Still disappointed! Menu excellent, wide choice. Meatballs & spare ribs looked good. Quality ok just ok but nothing spectacular just average. Still disappointed. Could have cooked this at home. Sauces lacking any real flavour. Veg ok but just ok. Why just ok? We’ve paid for better than just ok. I can do better than ok at home !! Fillet steaks cooked nicely but tasteless meat. Poor quality. Now very disappointed! Kitchen smells spreading into restaurant now. Chip fat ! Smelly. Not happy ! It’s cold because kitchen door open. Lost interest at this stage and asked for the bill. Staff still attentive and accommodating but we don’t complain because we’re British ! Bill - best part of £100 Enjoyable night out ? we made the most of it but won’t be going again. Sorry. Could have done better at home for a fraction of the price.

I love my food, I am known for a good appetite, but this lovely place stopped me in my tracks with 2 courses! We called for lunch, my wife and I, we sought out somewhere different following a very disappointing meal in another Mediterranean restaurant. We found Silvano's and called in. We were the first customers that day, a bit of a worry! We were greeted and seated and given menus, lovely chap looked after us service was spot on. The meal, well I am usually grumbling to myself about portion size. Here the portions are very very large, I decided to have the meatballs with tomato sauce to start. 3 possibly 4 would be a good portion, I got 7, beautiful meaty and full of flavour with a really good sauce. For main course I went for the Seafood Risotto with a side order of sauté potatoes, my wife went for chicken topped with ham and cheese with boiled potatoes and vegetables, she struggled all the way and just could not finish it, as it measured about 8 inches by 6 I was amazed at the amount she ate! My risotto was just too much, well fished,band a good risotto to boot. But again just too much, I ate all the seafood and only left rice. We left, having paid a very reasonable bill, stuffed to the top. Very good food and very good value, reduce the portion size and I would give 5 stars. This restaurant should be full every day, give it a go!

We stumbled across this little place for dinner one evening and am I glad we did!! Very cute and cosy, lovely atmosphere, very tasty food and brilliant service, can’t recommend enough!! Would definitely return! If you’re in York this is a must!

Went for a dinner on the 1st of january with my wife. We asked for starters, crespoline and special mussels which were actually very nice. Then my wife asked for a diavola calzone (it was just fine) i asked for a seafood pizza, that came full of oil and little amount of seafood, basically it was not tasty at all and too greasy to eat, i’ve had a couple of bites and couldn’t keep eating. When i’ve asked about the oil on the pizza, he told me that the same mix for the starters is used for the pizza (so I could also understand the taste of the vinegar, not nice on a pizza). Not an excuse, nothing offered instead. We ordered desserts (our fried courgettes still on table), none of those desserts home made but fine. I’m a chef, and I just don’t understand how is it possible that for a seafood pizza there is no fresh seafood to put on it at the moment to bake it. We really loved to chat with the waitress which was very kind and friendly, and the italian waiter was nice as well, thank you!

We found this gem wandering around the centre on our 1st night in York. The waitress was friendly and polite. Ambience very pleasant. We ordered a bottle of wine to share. Hubby had the Alfredo pasta, decent portion, with ample bacon, not like some places that one has to search for the bacon. I had the veal cooked in white wine sauce which was served with rice, potatoes wedges, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, simply delicious, we were both very impressed. Price was about £49.

Visited one evening with family. The restaurant was very empty which meant the service was good and fast but led to us feeling a bit rushed and pestered. Other than this we can't fault it. Complimentary bread on the table followed by delicious garlic pizza bread. Penne arrabiata was able to be made without meat for me as a vegetarian. Also tried some of the desserts - very nice. Would definitely return but hopefully on a busier night.

Nice food in a lively pizzeria. Good choice of dishes & we all enjoyed our choices. Staff very nice & service very good. We'd go again.

We stopped here on our way into town for a night out having tried many other Italian's in the past and fancied a change. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were friendly and professional. The food was probably the best Italian food we have had in York. It was freshly made and tasted delicious. The portions were generous and the price was comparable to the other restaurants in town. Will definitely be visiitng again

Have eaten at some great restaurants , but this is by far the best. The food was amazing, the choice was enormous, the portions so generous. And the service was wonderful, the staff were friendly and great fun . Will sing from the rooftops about the whole experience

We had an excellent meal here last night. I had Spinach & ricotta ravioli which was the best I've ever tasted & my husband requested a vegetarian calzone which was not on the menu but was no problem to make, it was packed with a selection of veg & was delicious. We would highly recommend
