Fantastic lil restaurant with the best service. Food was fresh, hot and lovely displayed. Will definitely be back :)

As with most restaurants, there was twice as much pate as there was toast to put it on. Luckily the pate had a taste that made me quite happy to stop half way. I then had a dish with 2 cuts of lamb, one of which was very good and went well with the tasty red wine jus. The other was cooked ultra well done so it was hard, dry and tasteless. Disappointing.

The first Italian restaurant In UK that does feel Italian.

Avoid if you have allergens or are Vegan. Very slow and somewhat rude service, Had to request our drinks multiple times, Garlic pizza bread was severely overcooked and dry but mains were delicious, Despite the menu stating clearly that they offer Oat and Soya milk when requested they stated they don't have any and never have, Vegan desert came with a clearly labeled biscuit containing Egg and Honey. They did acknowledge the mistake but It took 10 minutes to get someone's attention to point out the mistake and have the desert removed from the bill. No way to know if the rest of our food was actually Vegan.

What a lovely experience. We were wondering around, feeling hungry, and stumbled across this place. We took the lunch special and it was delicious! Very friendly service too - highly recommended.

One of the best Italian restaurants outside Italy that I've ever been to.

Had lunch - we were the first customers in that lunchtime so our food arrived very quickly. I had pollo saltimbocca which was delicious with lovely crispy pancetta and asparagus. Good flavours in the accompanying purée and sauce. Only criticism was the mashed potato was a little lumpy (but perfectly seasoned and I like mash made with the skins). My sister had the carbonara which she said was good and both dishes were nicely presented. Staff were polite and the atmosphere picked up when some more lunch groups arrived. Impressed to see so many vegan options too.

We arrived as ‘walkins’ but were found a table, which I am very grateful for as the meal was excellent. The lamb dish was especially good. The wine was keenly priced, we plumped for a simple Pinot Grigio and were blown away, it was buttery smooth. The service - and there were just two people waiting on - was just right. Will definitely return when back in town.

No idea how they have a rating of 4.4. Average food served in a depressing dining room, accompanied with slow service. Too many better Italian options available.

What a great find for a cheeky Italian lunch. Lovely friendly service and a warm welcome. Food was stunning and would highly recommend the lasgne. We will be back.

We were so so surprised to find this quiet at the weekend - food was incredible. Burrata starter so fresh & salmon main to die for. Portion sizes are huge! My partner ended up taking some pizza home. We shared the tiramisu for desert. Staff were so friendly throughout. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Very slow service, beef cheeks main was ok potato mash had skins in would have been better without, sweet and sour carrots were absolutely not needed normal carrots and more veg would have been better it was a clash of flavours I never want to try again. Banoffee pie for pudding I no joke had one slice of banana the thin layer of toffee couldn’t taste it at all it was just a “choc moose” disappointing I wouldn’t recommend if I wasn’t with friends having a good time I would have complained.

A nice small restaurant nicely situated in the heart of the city with friendly staff. There were a few issues with the menu with items listed on the menu but missing from the plate which we had to ask for but failed to get. Overall it didn’t feel like the fine dining we wanted for a my partners birthday, no water offered. Probably better as a lunch stop rather than an evening venue. It was the little things that let the overall experience down.

Went here last night for my Christmas do, safe to say I won’t ever be attending here again. There was 13 of us who all prepaid for Xmas menu, got there & they say we can’t all pay our part of the bill, we have to have 1 person pay it & then we all split it after! Unheard of & the person waiting on us was so rude. Starter came out before we even had our first drinks which were ordered 20 mins prior. All the food was cold, bland and rushed. The banoffee dessert which they said had biscoff on, didn’t have any biscoff what so ever. It was truly appalling. After we got our first drink, nobody offered us anymore & the atmosphere was awkward. Some of the staff were pleasant but the main waiter/waitress was incredibly rude. Our full party said we would not go back & wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. £32.50 for the Xmas set menu aswell, rip off.

Ordered two courses. Friendly staff. Satisfactory food dishes. I would come back to this restaurant if I visit York again. I can recommend this restaurant to my friends.

We took a chance and walked in as most places were booked up on a Friday nearby. The place was busy which we deemed a good sign. The front of house staff were welcoming, accommodating and had a lovely way about them. We ordered a nice bottle of white and the atmosphere was nice. However, the food was atrocious. For starters the bruschetta was cherry tomatoes chopped in half with a squirt of balsamic glaze on toast (no garlic, no basil, no finesse), the bork belly was mediocre but probably the best item of food of the day. We ordered to monk fish mains which were over cooked inedible with basic potatoes and a bland tomato sauce… the best thing on the plate was some grilled asparagus. We complained and had them taken off the bill and replaced with lamb two ways… which had lumpy undercooked mash and lamb cooked two ways you wouldn’t want to eat. We were embarrassed to complain twice so paid and left with a horrible taste in our mouth and £80 poorer. Again, the waiting staff were really nice… and we got the impression you’d be better off ordering something more basic like lasagna or pizza and pasta. But likely never to return unfortunately.

Bit of waiting but delicious food

Honestly one of the best resturants I have had the pleasure of going to, table of 10 with only 24 hours notice, accomidated us perfectly, the service was impecable and the food was the most fantasic food i have ever eaten, beyond worth the orice, utterly ammazing really cant wait to go again, in all the 10 of us, 2 drinks, starters main deserts was just over £500 so £50 a head and that is impecable

10 out of 10!!! Plenty of choices on the menu for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. I had trouble choosing which vegan options I wanted most. And when they arrived, they didn’t disappoint. Service, atmosphere and food all perfect.

Samantha did everything to make sure our visit was the best we can have and we had a lovely meal. Thank you.

Quick night away in York and stayed at The Hilton Tower. As you walk out directly on the left is a beautiful building full of character which is Losteria Italiana. Inside the character continues and decor is vey nice. The service was excellent, immediately located a table for us, drinks were offered immediately and the food was only a short wait between courses. The food was delightful, for starter I had the patè, it was huge, smooth and gorgeous! My only suggestion would be more bread. For main I had Carbonara, again gorgeous and mango sorbet for dessert. I saw the tiramisu and it looked amazing, I just didn’t have enough room for it! Lol. Fantastic place and highly recommend!

Visited with 5 friends when in York recently. Great Italian food, served by lovely staff. A set menu in the evening is a rare find, only £17 for two courses. Highly recommend.

Delicious food and attentive service.

Fabulous restaurant and the best meal we had in our time in York. I booked a table in advance (for dinner) and at the time, Maria mentioned they had a large booking in but showed me two areas she could seat us. The food was excellent and between Lewis and Maria, we were excellently looked after all night. Really good atmosphere and with a table of six, we had a good look at a lot of the food and drinks - all of which were first class. Thoroughly recommend L'Osteria if you're in York and looking for a top quality meal with top level service. My Mum loved Lewis and he really made our night - keep up the great work!

Found a great new Italian restaurant which had some unique dishes on the menu. Really tasty food and great prices. Very friendly staff as well. Set lunch is really good.

My friend and I came this evening for dinner after seeing that your restaurant had good reviews, and my gosh you didn’t disappoint! The food was fantastic - very tasty and well presented (didn’t take pictures as I couldn’t wait to eat it!), and very friendly, welcoming staff. Thank you for a lovely time!

This was probably the worst meal I have ever had in my life. I had the lamb and my friend had the chicken. It was horrific. Both dishes were over cooked to the point they barely resembled food, the sauce was water and the accompaniments mush. As I work in the hospitality industry I begrudgingly paid my bill out of politeness. I suggest you reevaluate your kitchen team as my school dinner lady as a child could have executed the dishes we had better. All in all an absolute affront to the hospitality industry. Go to Mc Donald’s at least they are honest with what they are.

Had a really lovely meal this evening in l'Ostaria italiana the food was really enjoyable and the service was excellent. It was a shame that our evening was spoilt by the table next to us, who spent the whole of their meal moaning about the food and their drinks, but then ate everything!! Restaurant 5 stars..table next to ours..1 star

Found this beautiful restaurant whilst on a ghost walk. Welcome was very friendly. Menu very veggie friendly with plenty of options on main and set menu, plus a separate vegan/ veggie option. Spinach and ricotta cannelloniplus garlic bread were gorgeous. Portions were just right. Afagatto for dessert also very good. Food was authentic and not generic like so many Italian chains. Cost was very reasonable for the quality of the food. If you are near York and you want proper Italian food with a genuine welcome this is the restaurant for you.

Very nice meal for 3. Food was really good quality, reasonable cost. Drinks (soft drinks) overpriced but this seems to be the case in most places. Lasagna so delicious, home made and very tasty. Canelloni the same, very good. Great ambiance, good service. My one moan was that there was not enough garlic in the garlic bread.

We went in for lunch and ordered from the set menu, 2 items for 17. The appetizers were generous as were the entrees. I had mushrooms in garlic sauce and the vegetarian grilled goat cheese salad. Husband ordered the burrata cheese salad and the pork belly. Everything was spectacular! Food, service, and atmosphere. I would eat here again. I would attempt to make my goat cheese salad at home, it is that good. Very close to the York castle.

Absolutely amazing food. This is not a pizza joint. This is high end Italian and done extremely well. The atmosphere is elegant. The background music is modern Italian. Loved it all.

Losteria Italiana was an extraordinary find! We tried to get into a restaurant just down the street, but couldn't. A passer-by suggested we try La Vecchia Scuola and are we glad we did. We were seated straight away. The décor was very inviting and the service was ample. I started my dinner with the Fungi al aglio which was pan-fired mushrooms finished in a creamy garlic butter sauce served with homemade bread. This selection was one of the best I have ever had, it was remarkable. My wife and a friend had mixed salads to begin with. One was served with a full-flavored Pesto dressing with pine nuts and the other was served with a delightful vinaigrette dressing. Serving sizes are big enough to share and are very fresh. Our main selections were the Filetto d maiale, which was fillets of pork, Maiale glassato, belly pork, Pollo saltimbocca, chicken breast, and homemade lasagne. The fillets of pork were served with crushed potatoes, sauteed spinach, roasted pine nuts, and a pancetta sage sauce. The pork belly was glazed with apple and honey. This dish was served with crushed potatoes, spinach, a pancetta, pine nuts/sage sauce. The chicken breast was topped with parma ham served with crushed potatoes, asparagus, red pepper and honey puree finished in a marsala and sage sauce. The lasagne was homemade and served with garlic bread. My wife and I finished off our evening with a serving of Copa tiramisc which was homemade with a scrumptious raspberry sauce. There were no complaints from any of the four people in our party. The food, dessert, and presentation were totally over the top. I must say the prices were not at all expensive and the serving sizes were great at this price point. This is truly a five-star restaurant at very reasonable prices. We will be back at Losteria Italiana on our next trip to York. I highly recommend this establishment!
