This is a great little restaurant at the back of Fenwick they do a great set of lunch and fad food with great service

On 7th December, myself and my partner went to this beautiful restaurant and was met with a warming, homely, authentic atmosphere. The restaurant itself its beautiful and clean, all though 'tight' in size, it doesn't feel it. The staff were amazing, tentative, smiley and just lovely! Now the food, lord this food. Was so mouth wateringly good, very good portion sizes and so full of flavour. I couldn't recommend it more to anyone! My partner made this night a little more special by popping the all important question and the staff went above and beyond congratulated us with prosecco and there smiles and well wishes! I can not wait to come back! Cause we will be back. Many many thanks to the staff and the chefs for the amazing food! You are all a credit to your fine establishment x

If I could give zero stars I would. My girlfriend is pregnant and the staff did not let her use the toilet. Unbelievable.

Waited 40 mins for starters to arrive, then again for 30 mins for mains! On top of that, the pizza was undercooked. The dough was pathetic. We asked them to change it, the got another, which was undercooked again! PATHETIC!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

Horrible experience!! We waited 30 mins to get our order. Overly priced but poor service! My pizza was undone, the manager was rude. They replaced the pizza once, the second pizza was undone again - it was literally just hot dough! Once we raised it, she was really harsh in her body language and said “You know what, I cannot give you anymore pizza cz the kitchen is closer” and walked away!

I booked a groupon for 4 people for 2 course meal, the vouches said 3 months to use, but what they don’t state is they take no booking for December. I still had 21 days to use the voucher but Because they don’t allow group on booking in December they wouldn’t let me use the voucher. So they stole £55 from me, absolutely disgusting, jusy robbing people money! DONT SELL ON GROUP ON OF YIU AREN’T GOING TO HONOUR THE 3 MONTHS VALIDATES!!

The service was excellent albeit there were only a few tables occupied but the food was a very big let down. We had pate to start, very watery and only part toasted bread, one lasagne that didn't live up to expectations and one carbonate that was tasteless. We decided to have a dessert to finish and ordered canoli. The pastry was completely soft and the filling was very grainy.

THE Best Value meal we have ever had! Had the Groupon 2-course Lunch for 2 with glass of Prosecco or Red/White Wine and Coffees to finish. Didn't know what to expect because the deal price was so good, but thought for just over £20 quid all-in, even average would have been acceptable. WOW! We arrived 12.30pm on Sunday and waere greeted and seated in lovely surroundings and nice,relaxing background music. My Wife got the Prosecco and a White Wine for me...Good start. Wife is Gluten intolerant with potato allergy also, but lovely girl who served us said no problem they could accommodate on a good selection of the menu and pointed us in the right direction on the list so all happy. She picked the Garlic Mushrooms which came with GF Bread and I had a plateful of very tasty Pate with Toast. Both agreed that was excellent and surprisingly better than our expectations. We both had the Pork Belly, which my wife couldn't have the Mash so they kindly replaced with Carrots in a very nice sauce. The Pork was beautiful with a little bit of Crackling on and the portions....OMG! We both agreed it was fantastic (I even had to finish the last bit of her Pork as she was bursting!) All finished off with 2 lovely Americano Coffees. This was quite simply an outstanding lunch which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Congratulations to the 2 girls waiting the table as you never seemed to stop! Cannot recommend highly enough. 👌

Must have walked past this gem so many times from the car park but this time we were dropped off and it was right in front of us. Cosy feel inside with a very warm welcome. We had a bottle of Top Dog Zinfandel which was delightfully refreshing. The food and service were amazing and you can see why the reviews are so good. Great variety in the menu and it was hard to choose. In the end we went with bruschetta and Arancini followed by cannelloni and lasagna. I didn’t have room for dessert but my partner had the lemon tiramisu- delicious. Absolutely no faults to be found and will be calling in again next time we are in York.

Food was really not up to much. Potatoes served with the sea bream were very dry and appeared to have been reheated several times. Sauce was watery. Was disappointed seeing as we had pre ordered due to being a big group. We all agreed that we would not visit again.

We walked past this restaurant and noticed their set meals, which looked good so we decided to go in. The restaurant is comfortable and pleasant, had to wait for a few minutes before we were sat as the waitress was busy. Once we were seated we had to wait again before being able to order drinks and food as there was only one waitress working and they were busy with the other tables. It wasn't busy but busy enough for the service to be slow. The starters were delicious - we had the breaded brie, pate and garlic mushrooms and we all enjoyed our starters and portions were a good size. The mains were good - we had rigatoni arrabbiata (but it was penne instead of rigatoni), belly pork and calzone. The pasta and pork were nice but unfortunately the calzone was undercooked which was disappointing after the good starters. Overall it was nice but the undercooked calzone and slow service at the start stopped this be a five star meal.

Pasamos junto a este restaurante y notamos sus comidas establecidas, que se veían bien, así que decidimos entrar. El restaurante es cómodo y agradable, tuvimos que esperar unos minutos antes de que nos sentáramos ya que la camarera estaba ocupada. Una vez que estábamos sentados tuvimos que esperar de nuevo antes de poder pedir bebidas y comida, ya que solo había una camarera trabajando y estaban ocupados con las otras mesas. No estaba ocupado, pero lo suficiente para que el servicio fuera lento. Los entrantes eran deliciosos - tuvimos el pan brie, paté y hongos de ajo y todos disfrutamos de nuestros entrantes y porciones eran de un buen tamaño. Los principales eran buenos - tuvimos rigatoni arrabbiata (pero era penne en lugar de rigatoni) , panza de cerdo y calzone. La pasta y el cerdo eran agradables, pero por desgracia el calzone estaba mal cocido, lo que fue decepcionante después de los buenos entrantes. En general fue agradable, pero el calzone mal cocinado y el servicio lento al principio detuvo esta ser una comida de cinco estrellas.

Booked this for my birthday through Groupon and we were blown away by the quality of the food and service,We ordered extra portions of roast potatoes and chips and believe me we did not need them as the portions of the starter and main meals were more than enough, highly recommend and will definitely be returning on our next visit

Set menus have good options and very good portion sizes

Nicely located restaurant serving Italian food in the city of York. It appeared to be quite busy during my visit, which is a good indicator of its overall quality. The service was great, especially Mihaela did an amazing job, though the atmosphere was rather mediocre. Although all of our food appeared to be rich in fat in overall it was quite nice. Recommend food: pizza calabrese and shared antipasto platter. Would probably come back when in York again.

Well worth the detour. food excellent, service excellent

We had an early evening two course meal here on Thursday 17th October, it was quite simply superb. A really pleasant surprise, just 1 minute walk from our hotel, we will definitely be back on our next trip to York. We shared bruschetta and a bowl of olives which we thought were just nibbles but were plentiful enough for a starter. I then had pollo cacciatore, which was most definitely the best I had ever tasted and my husband had the skewered lamb, again quite something. This chef knows what he is doing.

Second time I have been to Losteria. Both times the food was delicious and the staff were always friendly and polite.

Went for the evening set menu and WOW!! Beautiful food, great size portions and all served in a lovely restaurant. The staff were really lovely, friendly and the service was excellent. I went with a friend, loved it and ranted about it to my family when I got home. We are going to take a trip to York next weekend and try the lunch menu!! Excellent value and super tasty food, highly recommend a visit here.

Great Groupon deal but set menu good value at face price. Warm welcome and good service throughout. Really good quality food and satisfying portion size. Would recommend braised cheek of beef - melts in your mouth. Hope to return.

Had a meal there last night while visiting York, food was amazing (I am Italian heritage so grew up living on pasta) the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were amazing. Very reasonably priced again food outstanding and very fresh, which is very important. Small menu which is ideal.

Nice space with some great dishes. Carbonara was excellent and so was the pizza. The lamb was overcooked but otherwise tasty. Service was functional but understaffed while the restaurant was busy.

The beef cheeks, although very soft, were significantly worse than any other beef cheeks I've had in any other part of the world/ place. They tasted like cardboard. The potatoes were undercooked. The pizza crust and onions were slightly burned and tasked like a ready made £2 pizza from Asda. Edit: The starters and desserts were actually good.

Genuinely the best food I've ever had in my life. The staff were so lovely and the meal was delicious. We used a Groupon code and it was insane for the price. Worth every penny.

The food was amazing at this restaurant, very reasonably priced, and very big portions which we appreciated. The staff were all also exceptionally friendly and we had a lovely experience overall. great service, the waitress was lovely, the hot chocolate, carbonara, and strawberry gelato (chef gave me an extra scoop just because) were delish. i was the only one there at first, but as the restaurant filled up everything was still quick.

A really nice meal even though it was a rather quiet night for the restaurant. Food was very good and the staff were very attentive. Due to the quietness the atmosphere was a little stark but it didn't take away from the quality of the food. All in all lovely food at very affordable prices. Well done.

The floor is slanted, so if you stay for a little longer, you'll start to feel like you're in a bad mood with the semicircular canals. Other than the pizza, there is little seasoning, and it tastes like British cuisine.

Had a lovely time at Losteria this evening. Never been before but walked past many times and decided to try it and we immediately knew we had made the right choice. We had the set menu and both loved our food. I'm vegetarian and I found it very easy to choose what I wanted. The portion sizes are very adequate and the presentation is amazing! We both also had the house gin, and it was very good! I wish I asked what brand they used. We were served by Özge (I hope I'm spelling that right) who was very friendly and polite. We did not feel rushed at all and felt as though we were very much a part of the family rather than guests. All of the staff we encountered were very nice but she really made the visit a highlight. Overall I would say that Losteria is a hidden gem in York! The food, atmosphere and service were all amazing and we are already planning our next visit. 10/10, definitely would go here again.

Love this place. Beautiful food, intimate atmosphere and great service. We live in bridlington but try and get through here for the odd date night because we love it so much. Beef cheek is outstanding!

We had a lovely welcome from two ladies. We were early diners and were among three occupied tables. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonable as we had the two course menu. Service was excellent. The facilities could have been a bit cleaner but otherwise really nice.

Quaint little building right by Clifford 's tower and associated car park. Nice and friendly atmosphere and was busy when we arrived. Seemed to be one person serving entire restaurant, so service was slow, but server was very nice. Wouldn't eat there again, dry pizza and salad was going off in my opinion. They forgot our starter. On the plus side, they had a full vegan menu, didn't try anything from that.

Had a groupon voucher for lunch here. It was seriously good value for the quality and quantity of the meal. 2 courses, prosecco and coffee for £27 for two people. WHAT? Unbelievable value. We had the same meal, pate, followed by lasagne. Both were lovely apart from a stale, chewy bit of garlic bread which had definitely seen better days. The lasagne was quite solid, as it should be. Pate starter was home made and was full of flavour. Coffees were excellent . Lovely robust flavour. Very quiet restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. This restaurant really deserves to do well. Loved it.

My family is full of Italians, and this is an excellent Italian restaurant. Food was delicious and the staff were very courteous and thoughtful.

As with most restaurants, there was twice as much pate as there was toast to put it on. Luckily the pate had a taste that made me quite happy to stop half way. I then had a dish with 2 cuts of lamb, one of which was very good and went well with the tasty red wine jus. The other was cooked ultra well done so it was hard, dry and tasteless. Disappointing.

Avoid if you have allergens or are Vegan. Very slow and somewhat rude service, Had to request our drinks multiple times, Garlic pizza bread was severely overcooked and dry but mains were delicious, Despite the menu stating clearly that they offer Oat and Soya milk when requested they stated they don't have any and never have, Vegan desert came with a clearly labeled biscuit containing Egg and Honey. They did acknowledge the mistake but It took 10 minutes to get someone's attention to point out the mistake and have the desert removed from the bill. No way to know if the rest of our food was actually Vegan.

One of the best Italian restaurants outside Italy that I've ever been to.

Had lunch - we were the first customers in that lunchtime so our food arrived very quickly. I had pollo saltimbocca which was delicious with lovely crispy pancetta and asparagus. Good flavours in the accompanying purée and sauce. Only criticism was the mashed potato was a little lumpy (but perfectly seasoned and I like mash made with the skins). My sister had the carbonara which she said was good and both dishes were nicely presented. Staff were polite and the atmosphere picked up when some more lunch groups arrived. Impressed to see so many vegan options too.

We arrived as ‘walkins’ but were found a table, which I am very grateful for as the meal was excellent. The lamb dish was especially good. The wine was keenly priced, we plumped for a simple Pinot Grigio and were blown away, it was buttery smooth. The service - and there were just two people waiting on - was just right. Will definitely return when back in town.

No idea how they have a rating of 4.4. Average food served in a depressing dining room, accompanied with slow service. Too many better Italian options available.

We were so so surprised to find this quiet at the weekend - food was incredible. Burrata starter so fresh & salmon main to die for. Portion sizes are huge! My partner ended up taking some pizza home. We shared the tiramisu for desert. Staff were so friendly throughout. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Very slow service, beef cheeks main was ok potato mash had skins in would have been better without, sweet and sour carrots were absolutely not needed normal carrots and more veg would have been better it was a clash of flavours I never want to try again. Banoffee pie for pudding I no joke had one slice of banana the thin layer of toffee couldn’t taste it at all it was just a “choc moose” disappointing I wouldn’t recommend if I wasn’t with friends having a good time I would have complained.

A nice small restaurant nicely situated in the heart of the city with friendly staff. There were a few issues with the menu with items listed on the menu but missing from the plate which we had to ask for but failed to get. Overall it didn’t feel like the fine dining we wanted for a my partners birthday, no water offered. Probably better as a lunch stop rather than an evening venue. It was the little things that let the overall experience down.

Went here last night for my Christmas do, safe to say I won’t ever be attending here again. There was 13 of us who all prepaid for Xmas menu, got there & they say we can’t all pay our part of the bill, we have to have 1 person pay it & then we all split it after! Unheard of & the person waiting on us was so rude. Starter came out before we even had our first drinks which were ordered 20 mins prior. All the food was cold, bland and rushed. The banoffee dessert which they said had biscoff on, didn’t have any biscoff what so ever. It was truly appalling. After we got our first drink, nobody offered us anymore & the atmosphere was awkward. Some of the staff were pleasant but the main waiter/waitress was incredibly rude. Our full party said we would not go back & wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. £32.50 for the Xmas set menu aswell, rip off.

We took a chance and walked in as most places were booked up on a Friday nearby. The place was busy which we deemed a good sign. The front of house staff were welcoming, accommodating and had a lovely way about them. We ordered a nice bottle of white and the atmosphere was nice. However, the food was atrocious. For starters the bruschetta was cherry tomatoes chopped in half with a squirt of balsamic glaze on toast (no garlic, no basil, no finesse), the bork belly was mediocre but probably the best item of food of the day. We ordered to monk fish mains which were over cooked inedible with basic potatoes and a bland tomato sauce… the best thing on the plate was some grilled asparagus. We complained and had them taken off the bill and replaced with lamb two ways… which had lumpy undercooked mash and lamb cooked two ways you wouldn’t want to eat. We were embarrassed to complain twice so paid and left with a horrible taste in our mouth and £80 poorer. Again, the waiting staff were really nice… and we got the impression you’d be better off ordering something more basic like lasagna or pizza and pasta. But likely never to return unfortunately.

Bit of waiting but delicious food

Honestly one of the best resturants I have had the pleasure of going to, table of 10 with only 24 hours notice, accomidated us perfectly, the service was impecable and the food was the most fantasic food i have ever eaten, beyond worth the orice, utterly ammazing really cant wait to go again, in all the 10 of us, 2 drinks, starters main deserts was just over £500 so £50 a head and that is impecable

10 out of 10!!! Plenty of choices on the menu for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. I had trouble choosing which vegan options I wanted most. And when they arrived, they didn’t disappoint. Service, atmosphere and food all perfect.

Quick night away in York and stayed at The Hilton Tower. As you walk out directly on the left is a beautiful building full of character which is Losteria Italiana. Inside the character continues and decor is vey nice. The service was excellent, immediately located a table for us, drinks were offered immediately and the food was only a short wait between courses. The food was delightful, for starter I had the patè, it was huge, smooth and gorgeous! My only suggestion would be more bread. For main I had Carbonara, again gorgeous and mango sorbet for dessert. I saw the tiramisu and it looked amazing, I just didn’t have enough room for it! Lol. Fantastic place and highly recommend!

Visited with 5 friends when in York recently. Great Italian food, served by lovely staff. A set menu in the evening is a rare find, only £17 for two courses. Highly recommend.

Fabulous restaurant and the best meal we had in our time in York. I booked a table in advance (for dinner) and at the time, Maria mentioned they had a large booking in but showed me two areas she could seat us. The food was excellent and between Lewis and Maria, we were excellently looked after all night. Really good atmosphere and with a table of six, we had a good look at a lot of the food and drinks - all of which were first class. Thoroughly recommend L'Osteria if you're in York and looking for a top quality meal with top level service. My Mum loved Lewis and he really made our night - keep up the great work!

Found a great new Italian restaurant which had some unique dishes on the menu. Really tasty food and great prices. Very friendly staff as well. Set lunch is really good.
