Silks Fish and Chips at The Croft in Scarborough

Very friendly owner/ manager and member of staff. We were able to sit in to eat without paying a penny for the privilege. Thank you. The chips were crispy, as was the batter on the haddock. We enjoyed every mouth full and will partake again in the near future. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me start this review off by saying I have never liked chippy’s much and I’ve always been picky when it comes to food. I decided since I was visiting Scarborough I might as well try out the chippy for a quick meal. AMAZING!!! Fish is fresh the menu has a variety of different options I ordered a small fish and chips with gravy and it was gorgeous! The service was lovely they wished us a goodbye as we left and thanked us you can really tell they appreciate orders there. It was slightly pricey but you get more from what you asked for… for example I asked for small fish and chips and got a big amount of fish and lots of chips but it was just right for me! So just to warn you, getting over regular size can be unexpected with what you may get, but don’t let it put you off proportion wise. I enjoyed that meal so much and cleared the whole thing so did my family too even my kids. Amazing definitely worth a visit!!! Everything was hygienic and clean the place was appealing to me just looking around you can tell what the quality of your food will be like!

Not as good as it was… three rounds of cod and chips + mushy peas x 2. The fish was great, fresh and flaky. Chips cooked but not as crisp as I have before, probably been hanging around a bit!

This chippy was great but every time I've been over the last year or so it has been closed despite website saying it is open. Also heard it had been bought by someone. Simply given up. The website needs updating if anybody looks after it anymore.

We have used Silks a number of times on visit to Scarborough and had a great in shop and takeaway experience until last week. We had a mixture of cod and haddock and chips. The fish was fresh but the batter and chips were poor… can do better…

I often think about getting fish and chips here as people have recommended it, but after several attempts I’ve only found it open once and then after asking for gravy I got curry sauce! It’s always closed! My latest attempt today at 12.03 on a Saturday lunch and yes, all In darkness with a big CLOSED sign up, Saturday lunch!,,

Went to Silks today, fish dry, brown on the bottom and couldn’t cut through the batter. They had no peas . Couldn’t eat it, what’s happened.

Visited Silks after bike riding all day on the Cinder Track, it was tucked away from the main road near Scarborough, but so worth the trip. We sat inside to enjoy the fish and chips which were superb, but enjoyed the banter of the staff as much as the food. It was like a live comedy show. Amazing fish and chips - wonderful Matthew dealt with our enormous order ( 6 families ) with a smile and easy charm - hugely busy night and he had to do special gluten free as part of our order - highly recommended- felt like we had a great night out even tho we had just been stood in the queue - he deserves your business !

Visiting and this was recommended to us.. finally found proper fish and chip shop where the food is properly cooked and tastes even better. Great customer service and I couldnt manage a pint after as I was so stuffed. Cant recommend enough.. Perfect

Silks fish and chips is my first stop each time I visit Scarborough from Australia . This place is the real thing ! Quality fish , great chips and humour and repartee that is a refreshing experience. The Friday evening queue and the staff interact to make everyone welcome and the emphasis on producing the best product is reflected in the numerous awards and nationwide recognition it has received . I am very much looking forward to my return this summer to resume my enthusiastic consumption of Mathews delicious fish and chip suppers . Thanks and well done !

Excellent fish and chips cooked to order by cheerful people. Be aware that there's always a queue here and very limited seating to 'eat in'.

Whilst visiting Scarborough for the week we didn’t want to leave without having some fish and chips but we wanted a chip shop that was decent so after seeing the reviews for silks we thought we would give it a try, I’m so glad we did, they were the best fish and chips we both have ever tasted. The batter was lovely light and crispy and the fish was so white and fresh. The mushy peas were the proper mushy peas that are soaked like the old fashioned way, far more tastier than tinned ones. We will visit here again when we are in Scarborough, and oh the fryer and staff are very friendly too. Well done Silks, keep up the good work 👍

This was our first visit and we are so pleased to have discovered such a lovely place to go for fish and chips. We received a really warm welcome and ate inside which was clean and bright. Great food! Worth the trip in from the coast.

Extremely tasty food and a good menu. Great customer care. Very clean and hygienic. there is a small seating area inside and parking is easy.

After a trip to the beach with the kids we googled fish and chip shops and so pleased we went for this one. We were made to feel very welcome, and for all they'd been so busy they had run out of fish they bent over backwards to see us right with everything else. My 3 hangry children soon turned into 3 very happy children and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Our first visit but certainly not our last. Thank you for a lovely end to a lovely evening.

At the end of a superb day trip to the seaside, we searched Google for the best gluten-free fish and chips in the area and luckily found Silks Fish and Chips.Charming, jovial, keen to please and with great humour Matthew greeted us both and cooked a perfect Ordinary and also a GF fish and chips, which we then ate on their white table outside in the sunshine. Thank you for the perfect end to a perfect day!

This place is simply brilliant. It is well worth getting off the seafront to find Silks Fish and Chips at the Croft tucked away on a housing estate. You will not be disappointed. The food is brilliant but regardless of its high quality it is still trumped by tha amazing customer service. Eat in and just listen to how the proprietors speak to every customer with genuine, really genuine, care and attention. Young, old, local or visitor it doesn’t matter every one is treated with good grace, charm and humour which embraces but never embarrasses, honestly the pair should get an MBE for service to the community. As an example whilst we were sat there a lady with mobility issues pulled up outside. Like a flashy one was out from behind the counter to assist her out of her car and supported her walking into the shop chatting all the way cracking jokes which were spreading a huge smile across the ladies face. Simply the best which we have marked out as a highlight of our holiday. Lawrie and Tania.

We live in York so have been to Scarborough lots, over the years we have learnt the best/worst fish n chip shops. I have recently learnt that I have a wheat intolerance so searched on here for a place I can get gluten free food.I am so glad we found this place, it is not a chippy that we would have gone to before my intolerance because it is off the beaten track and would never have found it by chance. The staff were so friendly and spoke to the kids rather than 'over them' as I often find people do, asking them about what they would like to order.The 'normal' fish/sausage n chips that the kids and other adult in our group had looked lovely and they reported back that they were really, really nice. One of the kids got a small fish, the size looked like what yuo would get on the seafront as a normal fish and the normal size at silks looked like a whale!!!Lastly, the gluten free fish was so nice, the best I have had, a really meaty texture.We will definitely make this our 'go to ' chippy when we are at Scarborough. Interestingly, they displayed a photo on their wall of our favorite chip shop in Bridlington called 149 who are equally as good as Silks so I wonder if there is a connection between the two shops?We chose to drive back down to the sea front to eat our food rather than sit in, the boxes of food were put in a bag for easy transportation and it was all still steaming hot when we parked up so even if you want to eat your food looking out at the sea you can still buy from here and have hot food rather than feeling like you have to use one of the lesser standard sea front chip shops who have great trade based on their location rather than the quality of the food they serve.One final note - we went there for our dinner (1.00pm), but using the drop down menus on trip advisor I had to select lunch. Dinner (midday) and tea (early evening) are not options, tea is only an option if you are talking about a beverage, trip advisor cannot have been designed by a person 'up north' - hehe!!

We ordered fish and chips etc for five people, only to be told there was a special offer on for families, which included curry sauce and mushy peas. Very helpful when there are five of you.

Visited after a recommendation from the owner of the cottage we were staying in and we weren't disappointed. You can always tell a decent chippy by the queue and this had a substantial one when I arrived. It was Good Friday evening so was expecting a bit of a wait anyway but it was 20 deep. The ordering/queueing experience was unique with lots of banter between staff and with staff and customers. It probably isn't everyone's cup of tea but I liked it. The meal itself was delicious. A lovely piece of haddock and a good portion of chips, crisp batter and not too greasy. Very impressed. I did only just get there in time though as they ran out of fish shortly after my order so I bet there were a few disappointed punters that evening. Would certainly recommend a visit if you're nearby.

Went for a sit down lunch. This place is by far the best fish & chips in scarborough. The fish is superb & chips are just right. It's always busy for take out but you get your order taken when you walk in. Great friendly staff

Mathew & the team produce the best fish and chips you will get anywhere in the country. Forget your high priced, overrated Whitby fish and chip restaurants, Silks is the best tasting, best value for money you can get anywhere in the country.

Sorry to buck the trend but I found the fish and chips to be mediocre at best. Although the fish was huge and perfectly cooked it was only Luke warm and the solidified grease in the bottom of the box was really off putting, the chips again only Luke warm and the curry sauce was bland.

Excellent fish and chips friendly staff. You can sit in and eat very comfortable. My wife is a Coeliac and needs a Gluten free meal and the Croft caters for this, just ask when your there no problems. Parking is on the road but no restrictions.

I'm not a big lover of fish & chips but sometimes it's what you need.

My wife and i had fish and chips today and on the hole enjoyed them but the box had lots of oil on the bottom of the box which was a bit off putting..large fish with nice batter.. a little on the expensive side.

On Travelled 6 miles on the recommendation of my friend to find it closed. Why don't they let customers know.A very dissopointing journey.

Absolutely no competition for silks in Scarborough or surrounding areas. Lovely meaty white fish cooked perfectly and fresh to order. Cracking service, good portions. No complains at all. Never been a complaint in the 10 years iv been going to silks in various locations

The food served here is fantastic. Nice chips and large fish. The pies are from Glaves at Brompton are a treat with free gravy.

Wow. What can I say but YUM! You cannot go wrong ordering from here. We always go here (at least once a week as we are lucky enough to live within walking distance). I would like to see more dishes added to the menu but only because everything they already do is sooooo good. Fresh, hot, tasty, friendly service and resonably priced. It sets the standard for all other fish shops.

Fish and chips of impeccable quality. The proprietor has a huge reputation and deservedly so. Traditional shop where standards of food and service are as high as they can possibly be.

Some of the best fish and chips in Scarborough (and I've tried a few) well organised so they take yr order in advance so minimal waiting for fresh food. Definitely recommended. Generous portions 😁

Love eating at the croft. We have always eaten at premises owned by Matthew. He had a shop in Bridlington and we used to visit there often. Now he's come to Scarborough so we visit often here now. Staff are so friendly, chatty, and so helpful. They even remember comments you mentioned from a recent visit. Fish is so fresh, cooked well and tastes superb. Chips are just as good too. Not greasy nor limp like I've eaten at other places. We wouldn't eat anywhere else now. Been spoilt by this place. Have eaten in too ansnthe customer service is juts as great as a takeaway customer. Chatty and friendly. Wel worth a visit and I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Matthew is often in the shop, helping out too. Chatting away.

The quality of the fish & chips is by far the best I've tasted. The owner (Matthew Silks) and his staff provide excellent service and care about the quality of the food served. You won't find fish & chips as tasty served by such lovely staff. I wouldn't go anywhere else !!

Not an easy place to find but well worth the trouble, we enjoyed generous portions of excellent fish and chips cooked freshly while we waited by friendly and helpful staff. Silk's has an eat-in area as well as the take away service.

The fish and chips are clearly fresh, and are cooked beautifully - crispy and delicious. There is a chalk board telling you where the fish of the day is from and the service is friendly and welcoming. Lovely chippy...

Fist time eating from here and we all enjoyed it. Definitely will have this on our go to list in future.

You can always guarantee the fish and chips will be nice. We often have them and have never been disappointed. Also they are still piping hot when you get them home.

Nothing wrong with the fare, but we've tasted better, particularly Small Fry in town or North Bay Fisheries. The staff are friendly enough and the portions plentiful, with the source of the fish displayed. Last time we visited the proprietor said that if we got better anywhere else then he'd give us our money back. We haven't been back yet.

Called in here as our usual favourite had sold out of fish...... and we certainly were not disappointed! Lovely fish and chips - not greasy, crispy batter. Clean and bright chippy with an eating in area. Reasonably priced, and service with a smile! Will definitely be going back!! Well done!!!

Its delicious - Don't get a takeaway - sit in and have the fish and chips on a plate - with no washing up! Its spotlessly clean, the fish and chips are fresh and delicious - what more can you say - its friendly, excellent service - can't fault it.

It's a bit 'tired' outside and on a reasonably run down council estate that has obviously seen better days, but inside is a first class chip shop with a couple of tables if you want to eat in. there.The fish is astoundingly good with details of where it was caught up on the wall and polite and well trained staff who know their business.

Freshly cooked to order so piping hot. Lightly battered fish no grease in the bottom of the box. Fish patties were so tasty proper combo of potato and fish. Chips were melt in the mouth. Staff so helpful and pleasant.

One of the best fish n chip shops in the area. We eat in for the first time on this visit as the have a couple of tables inside. Excellent food as always. If your on the north side of Scarborough go into newby and find it you won't be disappointed.

This traditional fish and chip shop has a small interior and exterior eating area. Food is always cooked fresh. A golden haunt for us after a busy week at work. Staff are always friendly, quite often having friendly banter with their customers. Portions are often generous. Children's and senior citizen portions available. The shop is tucked away on a housing estate with plenty free parking around.

Visited the shop on 11.5.16. By golly I was not disappointed !! Fantastic service, even better fish and chips. All freshly cooked, batter light, crisp, and not greasy. Reasonable price. I wish I lived closer, I'd be there at least twice a week. Best I've had in years !!!

Myself and two friends visited Silks, We decided to eat in and sat in comfortable surroundings. Staff were polite and nothing was too much trouble. We all had haddock and chips, they were really quite large portions and the fish was gorgeous. I would certainly recommend Silks and will definitely go back.

Being choosy about my fish and chips having grown up in Scarborough and worked in a chippy as a teen I ventured out to seek Silks. Cooked to order fresh firm meaty haddock with great chips. Struggled to find at first but worth the trek.There is a small cafe seating area I will definitely be returning.

Live close by so admittedly it's a first port of call, but we have tried several others in town and competition is high as it should be for Scarborough. But we regularly go about twice a month and are never let down, yes it can be a bit of a wait and there is usually a queue but what does that say about the food.

I live close to this fish shop.......the food is excellent and the service is quite good.Everything appears to be cooked to order,so you do have to wait a while.But thats fine because when the food arrives it realy is first class fish and chips.However the surroundings leave a little to be desired the shop is often a meeting place for teenagers etc which can be a little threatening. I am sure that things could be done about this,,but its npt the fault of Silks their staff and food are excellent.Good value for money too.

Went to this unassuming chippy in Newby and had by far the best Fish and Chips ever, we've been to Rick Steins in Padstow and the Magpie and would still say these were better. Loved that they advertised exactly which boat and fisherman had brought in the haddock that day. Their family meal deal is fantastic value, 2 haddock and chips, 2 kids meals (fish bites and chips) and 4 sides for £17!

Oh yes, proper Yorkshire fish and chips with friendly service. The fish was fresh and flaky and the chips just as they should be and a sensible portion size.

I went here the day their Scarborough best fish shop award was highlighted in the paper. Not our usual chip shop but we were swayed by the award. We'll not be going back. The staff were friendly and service good, but the fish didn't appear as fresh as we are used to from the sister shop on Northway Scarborough. The batter was not as good either and it was very greasy. The chips however were good, although portions a lot smaller than other chip shops. We'll be sticking with Silks on Northway. There are tables in the shop and you can eat in.

I sent a comment to Silks back in May commenting about their website not having opening times listed. I received a reply 2 months later (today), the email read 'Your Loss'. Clearly Silks don't want any customer feedback. Says a lot.Anyway, the same day I sent the email I visited by chance and they were open. I ordered cod but they had run out so I ordered haddock. Got home and I couldn't believe the amount of grease! If you want a decent fish and chip supper, head to the coast and avoid this shambles!

Really enjoyed my visit today. The food was fantastic and the staff are friendly and attentive. Good value too. Will be back soon.

Why oh why didn't I take heed of one or two previous reviews re fat leakage.A recent visit left me unimpressed, with a pair of shorts and a car seat splattered with cooking oil. Difficult to believe that cooking fat from a portion of fish and chips could seep through a cardboard container and a carrier bag.Overall - 5 stars for shop experience (provided by friendly, jovial staff, (all too uncommon these days) 3 stars for food quality which I thought was nothing special despite the many rave reviews (discarded most of the saturated batter) Zero stars for excessive chip fat and poor packaging.If purchasing as a carry-out best to take 'back up' packaging - a bucket or such like.Be warned !

We enjoy the fish and chips from Silks on a regular basis. The fish is fresh, flaky and not overcooked. The chips are crisp and the mushy peas are a delicious and traditional addition to the meal. We find this to be the best fish and chips in Scarborough, in fact the fish was much better cooked on our most recent visit than in one of the more "elegant" eating places that we have reviewed in Scarborough! Friendly and helpful staff and generous portions. Recommended.

While Silks @ The Croft are arguably the nicest Fish & Chips in Scarborough. I do wish that they would either use plastic bags for take aways or allow time for the fish to drain off the oil before wrapping them. I went for our Fish & Chips on Thursday of this week, and the oil has dripped all down my trousers, oil on my car seat (where I had placed them). The oil was still dripping from the paper bag the full length of my hall carpet. If I can't get the oil out of everything. I guess my Fish & Chips x 2 will have cost in excess of £200. (Gutted) Advice:- Take your own carrier bag and keep it well away from your clothes etc.

We went to get some fish and chips and decided to eat in the shop as they have a couple of small tables there.The food was execelent, about the same price as take-away and the staff were attentive and obviously knew their business.Light crisp batter, fluffy obviously very fresh fish and nice mushy peas.It isn't sophisticated, it's a chip shop and deliberately laid out as such. But it aspires to greatness, and, to be honest, achieves it...

This was my second visit to Silk's Fish and Chips @ The Croft, Newby. My first visit was at 7.20pm on a Saturday evening, where I arrived to a locked door only to be shouted at through the door: "Sorry, we're closed!" I was disappointed.This evening I arrived with the intention of buying a large portion of chips for my husband & I to share. The shop was busy, with about eight people already queueing for food, and a family seated at a table eating their dinner. As I slowly edged forward in the queue, I had chance to read the signs on the noticeboard. An impressive letter of congratulations from the local MP on their winning Fish & Chip shop of the year (local competition), and an assortment of home-printed signs and offers, most of which were extremely badly written with spelling mistakes e.g. "entery" (for entry). I soon realised there was a system in place, whereby the manager would ask the customers when they were at a specific place in the queue, what they would like. The reason being that all fish, sausages, etc are cooked to order. Very good, I thought. Then I heard the manager speak very rudely to a young man who was completing customers' orders, telling him to "Get over 'ere and give me a 'and instead of standin' there wi' yer finger up yer ar*e". The poor lad looked extremely embarrassed as everyone in the queue heard the rude and unnecessary remark. I edged further forward, awaiting the rude manager's request for my fish order. It never came; instead, he completely overlooked me and asked the gentleman next in the queue to me. I ordered my chips and left. I shall not return.

I must say the best Fish & Chips I've had for a long time friendly staff as well keep up the good work.

Best to go as early as you can as because they are so popular they often run out of fish especially the smaller 'old folks' portion. If this happens there is another 'Silks' on Castle Road, Scarborough. Wonderful fish, cooked to perfection in scrumptious crispy batter with chips that are fluffy on the inside. These people certainly know how to fry fish and chips.

We visited silks on a Friday afternoon after spending the week in filey, we had visited before and were not disappointed so decided to pay another visit, one thing I will say is make sure you take cash, I had quite a walk looking for a cash point, we all ordered fish & chips and one sausage for a child, the chips were hot, fresh and delicious and the fish was meaty, fresh, hot, crispy and didn't taste of fat, we sat on the green in front with a few strange looks but we didn't care our take away was absolutely delicious and could not fault one thing, the guy cooking and the lady serving were very, very friendly and would make you want to come back alone and the food was a bonus. Keep doing what you're doing, everyone loves good fish & chips

When we stop in Scarborough for a week I dare say we will eat here at least 2 or 3 times, the quality or these fish and chips are second to none. This place puts the magpie cafe to shame

Well, they are as good as everyone says. Excellent qualty of fish used, and fried to perfection by a team that clearly takes a massive pride in what they do.

Visited for first time on Friday for tea for 4,was packed within minutes of opening.This chip shop runs like clockwork,a real "team",and the premises are spotless.I ordered haddock and chips,they were cooked to perfection and absolutely beautiful.There is even a notice board telling customers where the fish has been caught that day.It is not often I like everything about a food outlet,but can honestly say this place deserves 10 out of 10.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Lots of competition in North Yorks regarding fish and chips and this one is one of the better ones I have had the pleasure of enjoying. Lovely meaty haddock in a superb light batter and dry chips and excellent mushy peas. When you raise the bar this high in terms of quality it was a shame that the tea was so poor! Tasted like instant tea. If it wasn't instant, then the tea bags used were of poor quality. Also served in a glass which in my humble opinion should be reserved for beer or wine! Only 80p, although I would be happy paying double for a decent cuppa.

Second review for this fish and chip shop, wish it was a positive one again. Needs to watch when boss is away no good employing son to run business as it was a total playground. All staff more interested in entertaining each other. Haddock was tiny and very greasy. Won't visit again hope it improves

After hearing this was an award winning fish and chip resturant in scarborough, as we were visiting decided to have lunch, found the fish very greasy, not at all tasty, the chips were really nicely cooked, presented well and tasty. Much prefer fish and chips from Inghams when we visit Filey.

We used to be regulars at 149 in Bridlington (where Matthew deservedly won the National Best Fish and Chips award). So today, we decided to take a trip from Flamborough to sample the fish and chips at Matthew's new shop in Scarborough, some 20 miles away. Well, it was certainly worth the journey. We ate in the café and the service was very efficient and the staff were friendly and helpful. The haddock, chips and peas that we had were absolutely delicious, in fact we would go as far as to say they were the best we have ever tasted. We'll soon be going back for more of the same.

This in my opinion is the best fish and chip shop in Scarborough. There has been a lot of investment inside and outside the premises and it shows. It's very clean and there are high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. More importantly the fish and chips taste delicious and the service by the friendly staff is first class.

I think this place changed hands around a year ago and had to do some pretty hard core advertising to convince people to give it a go. We've been eating here in the cafe side regularly most friday evenings - alway at our usual table. . . . and we're seeing a change. . . . we have started to push people out of the way to get inside the shop. . . . they're queuing into the street! last week our table was reserved - FOR SOMEONE ELSE! and tonight, we, (OMG) had to SIT AT ANOTHER TABLE - shock horror!!!!!Which is brilliant news :) We LIKE having a quality chippy right on our doorstep :) We like to big up local eateries. . . . but I'd still like them to do battered scampi and not the boring breaded ones. . . . . bring it on!!!!!

I live about 3 miles away & this fish & chip shop has become my local. Everything is freshly cooked with a good choice. A notice tells the customer which boat todays fish was from and the variety of potato the chips were made from. The service is very efficient and friendly. There are a few tables if you wanted to eat inside. Highly recommend.

This place really is the best in town for fish and chips! Good value for money clean and the staff are very polite. I've been about 3 times and never walked out without something added on free. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Second visit & will be going again!!! Staff are so tentative and actually care what you think of the food, always asking if all ok, nothing too much trouble. Food is cooked to perfection & it's a joy going. Will recommend this as the best fish shop ever!!!

We had fish and chips here and have to agree they were the best we have ever had. The fish was really excellent and the chips done to perfection,the staff were really nice and the cost was a bonus too.You dont want to miss this little gem.............

My wife and me have a caravan at Bempton Nr Bridlington and were regulars at Matthew Silks 149 on Marton Road during the season------- Matthew always sold a quality product and ran a happy shop------ However, towards the back end of his tenure at 149, although the quality remained, the happiness did not.-------- Matthew is now back on top form in his shop at The Croft in Scarborough----Quality and service are outstanding with the old light hearted banter back to the fore. We will continue to make the 35 mile round trip from Bempton to Scarborough just for the fish and chips at Silks at The Croft.

If you like fish and chips and you are in Scarborough, you must visit Silks at the Croft, Newborough. The fish portions are huge, all the fish is fresh and sourced from local named trawlers. The chips are always fried to perfection. All fish orders are cooked while you wait so the batter's always crisp. You can eat in if you want or take away. Silks is owned by Mathew Silk. He has two other shops in the area all serving the same standard which, in my opinion is the best in Scarborough.

The croft has been a fish and chip shop for decades and at long last it has regained its quality, taste and popularity - practically queues out the door - just like it used to have back in the old days. . .only this time, even better, coz you can sit in and have your fish n chips in their cafe - no need to smuggle them home - and they taste best this way - totally love it! the only request, is could they please do battered scampi ;)

Can't deny that this is a good place for fish & chips. Very nice shop, clean, reasonably priced and quality ingredients to start off with. So you think 10 out of 10 then? Sorry but no! We have visited several times and the same problem keeps repeating itself over and over. I'll explain. Fish & chips was one of the very first "fast foods" Walk in, choose, served, walk out with your meal. Not anymore. Like many other places Silk's do the "fry to order" malarkey You order, wait for your fish or whatever to be cooked and then when ready you are served. And here lies the first of two problems. 1: They have managed to make fast food slow, and (2) in order to speed things up the (we'll say fish for example) goes from deep fat fryer to the cardboard box in which it's served without any time to rest, but much more importantly without time to drain it's self of the excess fat. This excess fat then covers the bottom of the cardboard box, soaks your chips, and if you were to sit the box on your knee to eat would without doubt stain your clothing. It also sticks the fish & the chips to the bottom of the cardboard box as it cools and congeals.If only the could have a few things ready and waiting, drained and free from fat. Folk with limited time don't want to stand and wait.So considering the above and my haddock and chips were ruined I have to give a low mark.
