Silcock's Pier Restaurant in Sefton

We visited there today . The fish & chips were very fresh . We had the fish cakes also and Chicken nuggets & chips ( child) free drink the cafe was clean and we had good service ! we felt it was reasonably priced given the location . My husband also had a pint San Miguel which as same price as we pay locally . On leaving my grandson had a double scoop ice cream which was huge for £3.20 We will definitely visit again !

A disgusting experience. Absolute robbery. £30 so not cheap. Dirty tables. Everything cheap and nasty. Food horrible. Drinks tiny. You have to order and collect yourself. The worst place ever. Avoid like the plague.

Not cod even though its list as such , it was basa or simulor £9.00 not much fish mostly batter , very poor for seaside , chips were good but not many of them ,( see pic attached ) our local chippie would blow them into the weeds

BEWARE OF EATING HERE!!; We visited on the 26th of June, the first indication was the disgusting state of the cutlery, we had already ordered and paid for the meals when I collected them, I grabbed a handful of serviettes to wipe off the ( dishwasher??) stains but was amazed to find egg yoke stuck onto one knife!! We ordered the chips and fish, which came in at just less than £10 a potion , which for a sit in at the seaside isn't overpriced. When the meals arrived we commented that the potions of chips were rather small but the fish was a decent size. I only ate half of my fish mainly because it seemed tasteless on eating BUT with a strong aftertaste, my partner ate all of hers. We had no food or drink anywhere else by 7.30 , to put it politely we were both jostling for the bathroom at various times ALL thru the night and woke up with terrible stomach cramps. I would have accepted this as a one off, knowing full well that the fish had caused it until I read of more people leaving reviews with the very same problem. I do feel that the public health should do an inspection of the premises and I am going to report the matter to them. My advice is to AVOID!!

It was here we had the fish and chips in Southport Pier. It was lovely British grub, clean oil. It is not pet friendly to sit in the restaurant. Definitely come here for Sundays many entertainment across the road and down by marine lake.

It's dirty and expensive for what it is. 2 Fish and chips x 2 small diet coke -£24. Quick service but the chips were very pale and weirdly chewy. Fish was bland but nicely cooked, counter lady was nice. No ketchup and cutlery was dirty. Bathrooms were filthy

Visited with family. Awful plastics table cloth and the place looks like it needs a good clean and update. Food ok nothing special. Needed to feed the kids and get out of the rain.Lady at the till was friendly enough.

Visited here whilst staying in Southport, we use to go with our kids when they were younger and it was always nice, however its changed, we ordered 2 x fish chips and mushy peas with a latte, they dont do lactose free /oatmilk for allergies so had a carton of orange juice cost £27. All the cutlery was dirty no sugar for coffee, sat down then had to collect food they dont even bring it over despite being quiet, fish and chips looked nice, mushy peas were dried up and tasted awful so left them, my orange juice was not nice feel sorry for kids that drink this contained no orange 🤢 fish and chips were nice, fish a bit greasy. When i got up to go i had curry sauce on my pants off the plastic tablecloth which hadn,t been cleaned properly from previous diner. Would not go back here or recommend it will find somewhere else a lot of money for okish food

Wish I'd read the reviews first.I didn't want to go to the place I'd originally been recommended and stupidly went here. Chips lukewarm and pale. Burger tastes of nothing.Salad on bap was two strands of lettuce. Coffee was awful as well. Place truly awful and indifferent. Would be better of at Wetherspoons with burger, chips and pint for less.

The Place is very unclean the chips and sausage seemed like they were made yesterday took them one minute to serve 2 people and both were horrible I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy it’s the sort of food you’d expect inmates to eat

Visited here while in Southport for the day. I had the sausage and chips which was nice. However, my parents both had the fish and chips and said the fish was quite dry.

Went to Southport with daughter and grandson. Unfortunately picked the wrong place to buy fish chips for our seaside treat. I ended up with violent vomiting and explosive diarrhea. It had to be the fish as it was just me that had it. Thank goodness I'd got home before full impact of eating this meal happened or may have ended up in local AE dept. I'd advise anyone reading this to avoid using this establishment or face the dia consequences of what I've experienced eating from this place. Wish I'd read reviews before I did!!

Many of the tables were dirty, and the first set of cutlery I picked up was still dirty from previous use and had to look for some clean ones. Children’s high chairs were being put away after use without being cleaned. Unhygienic place - food was ok, but won’t be going again…

Had lunch today, we were a very large family party, (quite a few oldies) the staff were super patient with us and handled all our associated nonsense professionally and always with a smile. Food was great and the staff didn’t move us on, just left us to our own devices while the oldies nattered away. Will definitely return. Great service.

This was average. Portion sizes were small. However, the fish was tasty. Restaurant were unclean. We visited midweek during a quiet period. Tables dirty, toilets also dirty.

Asked for a LARGE portion of chips and a regular drink! (Hardly anh drink- seemed like a small) And this is what I got. I didn't get asked if I would like salt and vinegar on my chips. I even asked is this a large portion. The customer service is shocking. All the tables was dirty, and hardly any customers in! Partner had to ask for it to be cleaned and he came back with the cleaning products! Bit shocked really!

We took our grandson for a day out to Southport and went into this place for a cup of tea and a kids meal. I have to echo the comments on the poor service and the attitude of the staff. Not only this but the pot of tea for 2 was at best only slightly warm, worse still there was only one teabag! I asked if I had ordered tea for 1 how many teabags would be in that pot the answer was of course one. Yet the tea for 2 is double the price. We will definitely not return and with summer approaching I would urge anybody visiting the area to avoid this disgusting overpriced place.

I wish I had turned around and walked out as soon as I stepped foot in there as there was a horrible burnt oil smell in the air but I thought can't be that bad I was wrong, ordered fish chips and mushy peas with a cup of tea and bill came to about £10.50. I waited about 15 mins which I didn't mind but when I finally got the food it didn't even look good, greasy batter, tasteless fish that didn't smell to good and greasy sloppy manky chips, mushy peas were OK but overall disgusting. Ate a 3rd of it and left, felt ill afterwards too. I won't personally go again

Visited on 25.10.22. Very poor greeting. No smile or welcome, just a "yes" Poor fish and chips. They were freshly cooked, but the fish was not fresh, tasted odd. Watched us tidy up after ourselves, put waste in bin and return the tray to them, no comment from them, just looked at us 'gone out' Not very nice. I would add, we visited last year, and totally different then...

Visited Southport for the time in quite a while yesterday. My family and I were looking forward to treating ourselves to a chip shop lunch. Whilst the food was quite nice, it was disgustingly overpriced for the portion size. The main reason for my low rating though, was the appalling service in the takeaway. The young man serving just stood there. I think I was interupting his conversation with another staff member. He didn't even ask what I would like so I ordered once he caught my eye. He was miserable, impolite and definitely looked as though he wished he were elsewhere. Training in customer service is an absolute must for this establishment. Sadly, we will not be returning to see if they improve.

I remembered it from when I was a kid many moons ago and said to my wife that the food was delicious. Damn those rose tinted spectacles, the chips were soggy ,greasy and tasteless ,they had more eyes in them than a sack full of needles. The fish was also tasteless but mercifully small. The curry was more like congealed gravy from netto, we threw most of it to the pigeons who were in no hurry to eat it either, all in all a lukewarm disaster, apart from that it was great and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves moaning about awful chippys. Shame on you cheap skates ripping us off for 13 quid lol

Just visited Southport for the first time in 40 something years with a yearning for a portion of chips with gravy. What I had was OK but the portion was very small with a dribble of gravy for £3.45 not good value at all, especially as I had seen similar advertised in another chippy for £2.10. I just assumed this place would be roughly the same. Note to self check it out next time

Great food freshly cooked. Sat outside with dog. Perfect fish and chips. Not difficult to get it right but not many get it perfect as this was. Polly enjoyed her sausage just as much as we enjoyed the fish and chips. Top marks, well done

This place is one of the worst place I have visited in Southport. Me and my friends received tasteless fish, soggy green chips and but fizzy drinks were the only thing that was alright. The prices are so shocking and over the top, the staff never seem to care other then taking money off people. Have the owners even read all the other reviews and ever trained their staff properly?? I’d be really embarrassed if this was my Restaurant and there was so many bad reviews, I’d be updating straight away.Won’t be rushing back better off going to places on Neville Street.

Wow it was bad. The staff were rude, the food was very greasy and my fish was full of bones, could have tipped the gravy pot over my head and I’d have still been dry. To top it off the prices were ridiculous for the quality and quantity! Do not go here. :)

Decided to pop in to this restaurant for teatime, quick service however this was the only positive. Chips were just edible, tasteless and drenched in salt. The fish was described as “alright”… nothing special and wouldn’t return. No tomato ketchup available.. my advice- don’t go!!

I would have given this so called restaurant a zero out of five but it wouldn’t let me so it had to be a one.let me begin me and my wife had a great day out mooching around Southport we were quite impressed and though it would be great to get fish and chips when we heard an elvis impersonator singing near a chippy we thought let’s go and eat there and a bit of people watching granted it was very busy we found a table and we waited and waited some more 20 minutes to begin with we waited for loads of staff just with no idea what to do I had enough and went to the service till to be told it’s waitress service please sit back down I did this and we waited some more still nothing after half an hour I then went to a waitress who assured us she would come and take our order next she didn’t though she sat down in front of us and started eating her lunch by now it’s taking the piss I was about to go and go mad at them but my wife went instead and about 15 minutes later we actually got drinks then our food which was not what I ordered I wanted gravy not mushy peas but they actually got my wife’s order correct what a place I hope the owners read this and actually think about wether or not they are in the correct industry they should go and do something else PLEASE PLEASE never go to this place you will be waiting all day

We had chips & mushy peas and a separate portion of chips, they where 'warm' not hot, overcooked brown, tasteless. We like everyone else like some chips when you visit the seaside. But this was just horrible, very much like the staff she couldn't even wrap the food properly. After walking back to the car we realised she never even included a fork...We took the stuff back got a refund and went to McDonalds.Guy's even if your desperate..don't eat here, you can see what they think of the public in the way the food is cooked and presented!

Absolutely disgusting needs a good clean an the food was horrible and well overpriced wouldn’t go again

Had 3 fish and chips and a nuggets and chips. The fish was absolutely delicious nice light crisp batter and cooked to order. The chips were also fab my lad said his nuggets and chips were great. We also had a curry sauce which was lovely. Nice friendly girls serving on takeaway. Shame about the bad reviews if I had read these prior to going I would have avoided the place so glad I didn't. Keep up the good work guys. 10/10

Fish,chips and gravy,fish very dry must have been old fish,chips hard and the gravy had no flavour! Fish ,chips and mushy peas,same as before for fish and chips and the mushy peas where dry and hard not at all mushy,plus two teas,total price £20..

Avoid. Got my order wrong twice, spent nearly £45 on my food for my family and sat outside, my 5 year old was desperate for the toilet and i was told he could not use. I begged and pleded but the terrible staff and management would have none of it. The little fat man who was making the fish who i assume is the boss wouldan't even look at me or help me out. Shameful and the food wasn't the best from what i eat as i had to take my lad to a public toilet.

We decided to support using the eat out to help out scheme and really wish we hadn't. We have been here before and it's never been great but we thought it's been here a long time we will help them out in a difficult time. We ordered two portions of nuggets with two portions of chips and gravy. She gave us (2 very obvious adults) kids portions and tried to charge us for adults. I stated that the order was wrong and she had such a bad attitude slamming the plates about. She went and added 2 nuggets to each, so still children's portions. Cost us £9 which is extortionate but would have been £18??? Place was absolutely filthy. No cleaning. One of the staff members wiped his nose repeatedly on his hand whilst handling food. How this place hasn't been shut down is beyond me. If you go and you get covid it will be no surprise.

Regrettably I have to add to the numerous 1 star negative reviews. If only I had checked first, we could have gone elsewhere.This establishment clearly benefits from it’s prominent position on the front.We just had fish and chips takeout hoping to enjoy it sat on a bench in the early evening sunshine.The fish was covered in thick, soggy, overly greasy batter. My wife picked out the fish, I was put off and left it after one bite. Chips were very nice but very small portion with most ruined by the big heavy lump of greasy fish.Staff were very inattentive and only interested in getting something out of the door. No care taken whatsoever and no engagement with the customers.Don’t be taken in by the location, seek out a smaller more personable fish shop.

We visited 26th July, this place is a health hazard food is far to expensive,£2.80 for a latte in a paper cup dirty tables and cutlery windows full of dead flies disgusting,had to leave the food could not eat here ever again I had to leave one star but only because you can't leave none

In light of the Covid Pandemic we decided to support this local business. What a mistake that was! We visited this so called 'restaurant' today with our two children. The children had Sausages and Chips with coke. In line with government recommendations of keeping a 2 metre distance apart we decided to sit outside in the fresh air as the restaurant didn't look like it was complying with goverment recommendations with the adequate distance between the tables. After the children had finished their average meal they needed to go to the toilet. A member of staff was cleaning the windows so I politely asked him if there were toilets that the children could use. His response was "No they can't, you can only use the toilets if you have been sat in the restaurant!I don't make the rules it's the manager!" I had spent over £10 there and the children couldn't use the toilet. I was absolutely disgusted! I spoke to the manager and he also refused. I will never go here again to eat and I will certainly be telling all of my family and friends about my experience. To refuse two young children the toilet is absolutely outrageous.They will quite happily take your money but refuse you the basic human right of using the toilet. What kind of people are they that own this restaurant? We had purchased food from them but because we decided to sit outside this took the right away of using the toilet!Their customer service was appalling!

Paid over £15 for 2 fish and chips. The lid wasn't on properly on one container so that went to the seagulls as it flew open. Food was so bland even after salt and Vinegar was put on. Definitely wouldn't return. I've had much better fish and chips where there isn't a seaside for 2 hours.

There is a fish and chip take away cafe and an ice cream parlour next to each other, both take credit card and both do delicious food, drinks and dessert. There is a good grassy area next to the chippy where you can eat your food and play ball games with children.

As a family with our 3 grand children we Visited Silcocks fish & Chips cafe today! Ordered food and sat down! After ten minutes a member off staff came over and stated were we was sitting was for staff only! We apologised and said we didn’t realise! She said we could stay and finish our meal! A couple off minutes later another member off staff came over, was very rude and shouted we should not be sitting there as it was staff only! We tried to explain we had spoke with the other lady who said we could finish our meals, she was not interested and told us we must leave as everybody else would follow us! She was shouting the whole time! There was no signs up to say it was staff only sitting! We was extremely offended at her attitude towards us and would never visit this cafe again! The children were also very frightened and did not want to finish their food!

Had the worst takeaway. The portion was tiny, the staff miserable and had dirty clothes on. Outside was full of litter. Always go to this chippy when in southport but never again.

We have used this restaurant on many occasions in the past. However we went last week and standards have dropped. Prices are high for the food you get, and the service was appallingly slow. The place was filfy, the floor was so greasy that my wifes walking stick kept slipping. We had to search for a clean table.

Thinking this restaurant was in a prime position would mean it would be very popular and great food. No no no. First impression was that it looked quite old and shabby however you could describe it as a typical seaside town restaurant. We still decided to give it a go. The service was extremely slow and when it came to our turn to be served, the young girl just stood there! Didn’t ask what we wanted, could she help, nothing. Just stood. We told her what we wanted, she didn’t write it down like the other girl and went off to get food. No interaction whatsoever! When she finally bought food over she started putting mushy peas on the fish and chips.. No they’re for the pie and chips. She started scraping them off the plate then she must have seen our faces and said I’ll re plate it.Service at till wasn’t much better. No charisma, no please no thank you.The food however was ok but sons chicken nuggets were only Luke warm, just wasn’t worth the hassle sending them back.I don’t like to be negative as I know what impact it can make however, it does need saying and hopefully they will improve their service.

I visited in July 2019 and found there to be very bland chips and chicken nuggets, which seemed to be straight from the microwave. The prices were slightly overpriced with a small selection of foods. I won’t be going here again!

Filter coffee for start up was most definitely kenco instant .....Horrendously over priced for very little reward .....It was like trying to communicate with alien life forms when trying to talk to the girls taking our order!!!The damp greasy smell was more than we could take and couldn't wait to rush out the door for fresh air .....

We went in late spring early summer. Restaurant was empty and there we're plenty of staff on duty, which makes its state worse.* Tables weren't cleaned properly and felt sticky* Toilets smelt foul.* Canteen style service (Order at till, wait 20mins for your food, then take it to your seat yourself).* both Fish & Chips were Overy greasy & didn't taste very fresh.Will find somewhere else for our "Sea-side Fish'n'Chips" fix on our next visit to Southport.

Ate here yesterday with my partner & 5 kids. The food here was great, not greasy as a lot of fish & chip restaurants can be. Prices are slightly inflated however, it is in a prime place for tourists / visitors so you expect it to be.

I visit here most times I visit Southport. Fish and chips are excellent, you usually have to queue at the weekend but its certainly worth it. Great to have something to eat and then admire the many motorbikes parked outside.

Whenever you’re at the seaside you have to partake of fish & chips. So we did here. They were ok, sadly although virtually empty inside small dogs were not allowed in, so we sat outside.

It's the seaside (well, ok, it's Southport so the sea is a mythical mysterious place somewhere over there, past the sand and the end of the pier ..... but you are still, by definition, at the side of it) and this is a chippy on the end of the pier with outdoor seating. Nothing more to say is there? Go and enjoy!

Always visit here when we are in Southport and never had a problem, hubby had the fish meal deal which was cod chips,peas and a round of bread and butter with a soft drink i had chips and gravy with a tea, food was well cooked i love the chips from here, staff are friendly we will return again on our next visit.

Waited 15 minutes to be served as there was only one person serving. Was starving due to the sea air and couldn't find a hot dog anywhere so popped in here. Ordered a small portion of chips, curry and a sausage. Plus an other small portion of chips. To which I was served a huge portion of chips with gravy and a massive sausage. Got charged 8 pound for something i didn't even order. Sausage was also cold. Chips and gravy were nice though so fair play.

We popped in near the end of the day and sorry to say we did. There was 3 adults and 2 kids unfortunately the food was not good in fact no one ate much. Over £30 wasted. Hopefully this was just an off day.

Had a couple of cheap meals with chips. Chips were nice, just your local average chippy. Husband didn’t get his sauce with meal, went and asked, no problem.

Wanted something fast and easy after a long day - could not find many fish and chip shops open despite it being only 20:30. Made our way to the pier where we found Silock's open for take away only - so we ordered and ate outside on the wooden benches along with the bikers of West Lancs. Fish was freshly cooked - haddock as cod was off the menu at this time. It was great but the chips were small, bitty and not so great. Cheap fat food a plenty.

Stopped off here for some traditional seaside fish and chips during a great holiday in Southport. What a disappointment! Very little choice of food, staff who didn't appear to have a clue and zero personality and when we finally got to eat it, the food was well below par. Go somewhere else!

This was Silcocks cafe in the amusement arcade accross the road in Neville st, but it doesn't have a separate listing, and T advisor won't let me do one, so I'm adding it here. Got a deal in the Southport Passport for 'freshly baked scone and tea for 1.99'. Well, this is a good deal, and not a terrible scone, but only an accurate description if what it means if the said scone was baked by Beryl the bakery worked in a large industrial bakery somewhere like Milton Keynes several days before, then hermetically sealed in a packet. We decided for a change to forsake our normal seaside jaunt to Blackpool and opted (mistakenly) for Southport to celibate the longest day of the year: a fatal decision.

We found the place dirty, smelly, and not exactly cheap. I actually left my food. My Grandson wanted 6 nuggets as written on the board..... he got 4 and the chips were disgusting. Avoid it you're used to nice clean places and nice food too!

Today I was treated to a chippy dinner at the this establishment. First off the staff have never got the memo to service with a smile - they didn’t crack a smile once. Yes I watched them serve others and they still didn’t smile.

Ordered fish and chips (which was OK) and kids fish finger meal. Woman taking the order was snappy. After 10mins people who had just arrived was given our food. When complained the person on the till shrugged her shoulders and said it will be out soon. She could not answer why people who arrived later was given food quicker. After a further 10mins food arrived after being asked for again with no apology.

Just visted today with my family and I can honestly say that they were the worst fish & chips we have ever tasted. Cold and soggy chips and tasteless fish. Portion sizes were ridiculous. Ordered the cod fish bites for the kids and got three tiny dried up fish cakes instead.

The food was terrible and overpriced the tables inside were dirty the toilets did not flush. Do not eat here.

Called in Saturday 26th May for our lunch. First my wife was offered 2 fish as part of the order which were curled up quite badly and the edges were very grey, dry and over cooked. She was given such a look when asking for them to be changed however, the replacements were just the same having brown ends which we cut off before attempting to eat them. This was difficult as we could not cut through the very hard batter. We only tried to eat them as we were hungry. The chips were not much better being some hard and some very soggy. This really is the WORST fish and chips we have ever had. My wife after eating what little she did had stomach pains all day and had not eaten anything before or after this most horrible attempt at fish and chips. For almost £13 for 2 fish,1 chips and 1 gravy this was very overpriced for the quality supplied.

Currently sat in this establishment and have asked for my money back. The chips where under cooked and the fish was soggy. Don't be fooled by the children's meal when it says cod fish bites, you imagine little pieces of battered cod like at Harry ramstons instead you get breaded deep fried frozen fish bites that are disgusting. The portion size is okish but wouldn't of wanted a bigger size with the tasteless gravey poured all over it . The drinks are tiny for the price as shown below . Would not recommend this establishment at all. Overly priced tasteless food .

My wife and I called here and had fish chips and peas I'm not a fussy eater and can tackle most things but this was overpriced rubbish cost us 17 pounds for fish chips and peas twice and one drink , the fish was mostly hard batter and a sliver of dried up fish the chips under cooked but peas was OK I left half of mine and my wife was so disgusted she took hers back and got a refund, don't waste your money on this overpriced crap, and this is an honest revue.
