Signature Restaurant in Bolton

We came a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Please look at my previous review. We came last night with a mrs Rainford ….. she has reviewed before….. however things didn’t go quite as they should. Our starters went ok if a little slow and then we started hearing whispers of problems in the kitchen. We felt that we were falling behind in the pecking order, then one of the waiters came and mentioned a problem but not what. Our mains arrived and on first bite me and Diane noticed our fish was cold so we called over the lady who seemed to be overall in charge and she took our plates away. So we sat back and waited. Our partners finished their dishes and shortly afterward a female waiter came and took away all the plates and dishes, bearing in mind that nobody on the table had had a sweet. About this time I got up and went to the toilet. When I returned I was told that 2 plates of lamb had been brought and taken away because neither of us ate lamb. We hadn’t been asked that question. We weren’t approached afterwards. When Steve went to the till, he was told there was no charge and could they wrap up the sweets. Steve felt it was time to make an exit and just left to meet us at the restaurant entrance. We all know it’s a training kitchen and the staff have to learn but we felt that there needed to be more guidance . We would welcome an explanation. barrym48@btinternet.com 07794195920

The service was amazing, staff are friendly, smartly dressed and confident in their work. The food was well cooked, presented nicely and at an edible temperature. Higher recommended.

Lovely venue for the presentation we attended on Thursday 30th November. The food was lovely and the waiting staff were welcoming, friendly and very accommodating, well done to all the team, we had an amazing evening x

My wife and I went for the "Dine and Dash" lunch service. The days menu was small but sweet, my wife had a chilli and line chicken wrap with a sweetcorn salsa (succotash) and I had a roast beef brioche with crispy onion rings and a watercress side salad. Everything was cooked perfectly and was really delicious. To think that these chefs are college students and can put some professional chefs to shame would be an understatement. The front of house students showed great professionalism. Dessert was a choice of creme brulee or schue pastry filled with cream and fruit topped in white chocolate, we had one of each and again was exemplary. We will happily go back and is great value for money, they even have a licensed bar and uimited coffee

Lovely food and great service, we couldn't ask for more and throughly enjoyed our evening thank you very much we will definitely be returning.

We heard all about this place from our friends and decided to join then to see if all they said about it was true. The greeting was very friendly and we realised it was going to be busy. We ordered drinks at the bar and sat nearby. We were then called and shown to our table taking our drinks with us. The staff, all trainees looked nervous but seem to follow all previously given instructions. We ordered starters and mains and sat back awaiting the results. Tha food was excellent and delivered with aplomb.. everyone enjoyed the offering and plates went away clean.

im already at bolton college went in 1 day and been going back ever since the food is really nice and the staff are really nice saying they are learning the food is exceptional

First visit to to the signature restaurant last week and certainly not the last, already booked another date, Food was excellent, Service very good by friendly enthusiastic staff, presentation very good,A wonderful experience

We went to the Signature Restaurant on May 3rd 2019 having looked at Trip advisor and we were delighted with the venue service and food. Staff were really nice and plesant and the service they provided was first rate. The three course food menu was comparable with a very high end restaurant but the price was very resonable there is also a vegetarian selection on the menu The presentation and flavour of the food was exceptional and attention to detail was spot on staff were attentive but without hovering and being in your face all the time. Well done to all at the restaurant we will be returning very soon.

Lovely restaurant good service food very good. G&T could have been presented better. In a larger glass more ice. Other than that perfect. Would go again

Thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Food of a high standard and good to see the future of catering and hospitality in action, clearly with some good mentoring. The rating for both food and service is well deserved. These guys are learning the ropes and delivering great dishes. The chocolate brownie was delicious!

The title says it all really - Signature is one of Bolton's best kept secrets. £14 for 3 courses! It's great to see the trainees learn new skills and it is close to the town centre with a multi-storey car park opposite. Unfortunately, the staff accused my mother of taking another woman's coat after we'd left... so keeps yours on the back of your chair and not on the hangers!

Great food, great price and great experience for the students to gain experience in 'real life' situation. Win, win, win!

Staff took our party to our table and asked if we required a drink at the table or we could go to the bar area. As I am a diabetic one member of the staff enquired which one of us it was and I informed it was me. They brought us our drinks before they took our orders for starters and main meal of which there was a choice of three of each. Service was smart and quick, didn`t rush us and asked if we had finished before clearing the table before serving next course. After we had finished our mains the staff asked if we required anything else to drink before taking our Sweet/Dessert order, I had already booked a fresh fruit salad , which was very nice {recommend for those not into sugary things}. For 2nd/3rd year students, on course time, I think they are doing a great job and I would recommend that you give this restaurant a big thumbs up and give it a try. All their training staff should be proud of who they are teaching they did you and us proud. Thank you.

The Signature Restaurant is where the catering students of Bolton College put into practice what they are learning in the lecture rooms and a great job they are doing to - they are a credit to their teachers/lecturers. We were a large party of eleven ladies which many restaurants would have found daunting to serve but these 1st year students looked after us really well with every course beautifully presented. The food is cooked by 2nd year students and between us all every offering on the menu was tested and all proved excellent. There are 3/4 choices on each course - 3 courses for £10.50 with £1 extra for tea or coffee - great value. The bottles of wine are real value for money - mostly £12.50! We'll be going again. Went today for the first time, what a beautifully presented and cooked food. When you think these could be first year students the quality of service and food was as good as a Michelin restaurant. They where a credit to the college and themselves

This is a restaurant staffed by catering students who prepare and serve all the meals. But you wouldn't know that by the quality of food and service. Just had a Christmas dinner yesterday which was amazing 3 courses and mince pies and coffee for only £18. They also have a bistro on Thursdays and Fridays, no need to book for that. Great choice of dishes.

Visited whilst photographing an event . Is run by the students with staff on hand to help if needed. But the student acted in a professional manner as good as any professionally run restaurant. Look a reply good place to eat

Gran lugar para comer, idea novedosa ya que son servidos por los estudiantes, pero el precio no tiene parangón. estupendo si vas con regularidad, ya que no puedes ver la mejora de los estudiantes individuales

I visited the training restaurant at Bolton College recently, the total experience from arriving to the end of my meal was excellent.On being seated myself and my colleagues were introduced to the staff who would be looking after us during the course of our meal. The service throughout the meal was excellent and the food when it arrived was lovely, absolutely nothing to fault at all!!!Signature is a training restaurant and its wonderful to see the trainees working so hard to make your visit enjoyable, I will definitely be visiting again. It is well worth a visit!!!!!

We won this meal in raffle. Didn't know it even existed but will be back. £13.50 for four courses is hard to beat. Especially impressed with helpful staff regarding my wife's gluten intolerance. The only bad news is that it's term time only and only open certain nights so keep checking the website for details. And book early.

A group of 7 of us went to the training college restaurant. The service by all the students was excellent. Very attentive and obviously being training to a silver service standard. Every course was very good. The flavours that were put together were good and complimentary. I felt the chicken and steak was a little over done for my taste but never the less tasty. I am not one for liking puddings but the pudding served was amazing! Excellent value for money and will definitely be reurning. Thank you

The training restaurant at Bolton College provides a very good lunch at a very good price. Make slight allowances for the fact that these young people are learning their trade and relax and enjoy the experience. We did!

The food is prepared and served by students working towards NVQ qualifications, closely supervised by their tutors. We went this lunchtime after booking last November! For £10 each we had a 3 course meal, beautifully presented. There is also a bar and tea/coffee.

Had a meal here on weds food was superb and at a great price 4 course for £13.50 its a teaching establishment but all the students were polite and did there job with a minimum of fuss very attentive at a restaurant you were pay a lot more for the food you got definately recommend tried to book again but booked up until january which is telling you something

We have been several times for lunch here and have always been very satisfied with the food. However we went yesterday and the food was superb just to our taste. Our 14 year old grandaughter was with us and we thought she may not have liked the food as she is a fussy eater. However she ate almost everything and enjoyed it.The starter of crab leek and safron quiche was excellent. We then had lamb tagine with cous cous and for dessert carrot cake with ice cream. There were other alternatives to choose from and they were all superb. We will definately be going again soon. The whole experiexnce is 5 star.

My husband myself and two friends went to this restaurant this afternoon, the food was fantastic, the service, the students were brilliant, a lovely immaculate place, and cheap drinks what more can one ask, we will be going again very soon, but when the college holidays are on the restaurant is closed but ten pounds for three courses, a pound for a coffee, is definitely reason to return again and again thank you all,

Visited this restaurant on Wednesday evening with some friends. The greeting was lovely and welcoming. This is a very popular place to eat and every table was occupied. The food is of excellent quality, choice is excellent. My favourite dish this evening was the butternut squash and ginger soup with the mackerel starter as runner up. The pork was a bit tough but that was my only black mark. Pam was attentive to every table ensuring everyone was happy. Roll on April for our next visit.

Just left after a fantastic lunch. Food and service amazing. Come on Bolton public get your reservations in. What lovely students. Wish you all the best in your chosen career. Could do with visitors being a wider variety in age to show how you cater for all ages and receive the recognition you all deserve. We'll done. Can't wait to return x

We visited this restaurant for lunch for the first time. We found it to be very impressive on arrival and were shown to our table promptly. The menu was small but something for everyone to choose from. We chose the minestrone soup and the lamb for main course we also had a lovely dessert,everthing was excellent. The students were all very nice and friendly. We also had an excellent bottle of red wine for £9.75 which we thought was good value. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we are returning again next week.

First impressions were great, our coats were taken by a super polite young lady and we were shown through to the bar area, where we ordered our drinks. Our party of 8 were quickly seated and shortly afterwards a young man came to take our order, he was so nervous, I offered to write out our order for him. My parents have eaten at the restaurant on numerous occasions and really rave about the food, the kitchen must have been having an off night, my Fishcake starter was dry, my partners eggs benedict was 'a bacon and egg barm' (his description) and his main of Black Bream on home made baked beans lacked in flavour and the beans were hard. It's a real shame because it will put us off going again, my assured us it was really unusual and that they usually have a fabulous meal. I know it is student run so I wasn't expecting Michelin star standard, but surely there is a head chef who oversees what goes out of the kitchen?

I was recommended to try the restaurant at Bolton college by a friend and frankly I was amazed. Maybe I had low expectations as it is a restaurant run by students so it blew them out of the water easily.The waiting staff at the bar and at the tables where fabulous. They have obviously been taught pristeen silver service - you just can't find that level of service anywhere else in Bolton. The food was scrumptious, I had a courgette linguine followed by a steak then a sticky toffee pudding to finish. I am an incredibly fussy eater and to be honest I couldn't fault any of the food.The wonderful thing about the food is that you know the whole point of the restaurant is for the students to learn to cook so absolutely everything you eat will be made from scratch from the bearnaise sauce to the custard.The crazy thing about this place is the price - I think it was under £20!!I have recommended this place to my friends and family and have a booking this Wednesday to go back. There is one major drawback to Signature restaurant which is that it is isn't open all the time and is relatively small so it's difficult to get a booking. So for that reason and that reason alone please do not go - it's hard enough getting a table already :)

I've been to Signature Restaurant 3-4 times in the last 18 months anda;ways provides the most fantastic value for money food, at Bolton College's Deane Road training restaurant.Lunch is 3 courses, dinner 4, with reasonable choice on the fixed price menu. Last visit I had Grilled Mackerel, Braised Beef and Strawberry Steamed Sponge and they were all excellent. You can't compare it to a top class restaurant. It's what it is; a restaurant where front of house and kitchen staff are all youngsters learning their trade. But it delivers great food at low, low prices.
