Shukran Indian Restaurant in North Tyneside

Amazing great food, 4 different plates, 4 different flavours. Kind people who explain everthing, about the flavours. It,s a recommander for those who love Spice food. Very good

We have been going to Shukran for years. Granted this has been off and on as you tend to do. The past 3 orders haven't gone to plan. 1st, 90 mins early 2nd, missing naan & chips 3rd, chicken tikka madras magically arrived as lamb. Upon phoning for the last order there was an apology and a replacement offered. Replacement arrived 15 mins later (never a good sign when you live 5 mins from takeaway) , it tasted of spice and little else. Whipped together for speed alone. When phoning to explain this I was told this was the madras that was made but mistakenly not put in our bag (lambastic excuse). I appreciate it they may have been busy, but as a customer I would like 1, what I ordered. 2, food that was edible. 3, not to be lied to.

Was told about this restaurant by a good friend who dines here frequently. As visitors we were made to feel very welcome and the service was polite, friendly and knowledgable. The food was very good from starter to main courses. Hot, fresh and very tasty and ticked all the boxes. Lovely naan bread that was light and tasty, crisp fresh poppadoms with tangy pickles (the lime pickle was lush) and our mains were full of flavour and the lamb was meltingly good. No doubt we will be back. Thanks to Faz and all the team.

We have ordered takeaway from Shukran many times before and, previously, always been very happy with both the service and the quality of the food. I was genuinely shocked at the service I received recently. I placed my usual order early evening and had no hesitation paying over the telephone as I had many times before. I was told that my order would take about 45 minutes to an hour and I was happy with that. After about an hour and a quarter, I called to ask if my food was on its way and was told that the driver was just leaving the restaurant, so my order would probably be another ten minutes. About 45 minutes later (2 hours since I ordered), I called again to ask how much longer my food would be. At this point, the manager told me that he had brought the food to my house personally a hour and a half previously. I told him that nobody had called at the house and that I had watched for him as I was expecting him. I also reminded him that I had been told only 45 minutes ago that the driver was just leaving and pointed out that both of these statements could not be true. At this point, he began shouting at me. He became very abusive, called me a d*ckhead and refused to refund my money unless I visited his premises in person. He was so aggressive and abusive, that I do not wish to meet him in person. Having used this takeaway business for years without problems, I was genuinely shocked by the behaviour of this man. I thought that perhaps this had been out of character and waited several days before writing this review in case he wished to approach us to apologise. Having read previous reviews on this site, this would appear to be an established pattern of behaviour and I am writing this review to inform others, in the hope that it might help them to avoid a thoroughly unpleasant experience.

Service was good and bad in parts. Food was absolutely tasteless. Presentation was good. Value would have been good if taste had been right but both starters and mains were seriously lacking in depth. There were no spices. When ordered "hot" it came mild. Very disappointed. Wouldn't come back even if free.

Food so good it almost made me cry

Collected a takeaway from here and our food was amazing when we eventually got home! Our car broke down outside and the owner rang his delivery driver who helped us get it started. They didn’t have to offer to help but for this we are extremely grateful. Food was ama ing so will definitely be back

Great set menu on this Friday night. Food good and well priced. Nice service. Cosy place and we weren’t rushed at all. Various set menus as well as a la carte.

They called me at 09:48 and just said nothing for 10 seconds and hung up. A bit weird.

Absolutely terrible! Ordered online and was swayed by Google reviews but was incredulous when we "plated up." We ordered a chicken dupiaza which turned out to be chunks of raw onion in a watery tasteless yellow "sauce" (no heat/spice/flavour). Hard/rubbery/tasteless chicken which appeared pre-cooked and added. Rice was ok but again, pre-cooked/reheated. Keema naan had kebab meat in in it!!! More uncooked onion formed into 2 greasy bhaji.... We were only a 10minute drive away and it was cold by the time we got back. With over 40yrs of experience and visiting numerous indian cuisine restaurant around the world, I return to the UK to experience the worst curry ever. I claim to be able to eat anything (edible) but really struggled with this "curry" - congratulations for procuring my hard earned cash but I won't be wasting my money at Shukran again.... "Forewarned is forearmed."

As always great food and great atmosphere. Staff are always happy to help with food choice, they are very well mannered and polite. Food is top of the range, one of the best indians.

The Best Indian restaurant in Whitley Bay . We have had many meals in all the restaurants in Whitley Bay and have found this one to be the best . The quality is consistently excellent unlike many others that differ from night to night . Nice decor inside . The staff are very friendly and helpful. 100% recommend.

We had a meal with friends there was a few of us celebrating a birthday .All of our meals all came out at the same time no one was left waiting .Food was piping hot and delicious .Service was very good .Meal & drinks were very reasonably we all payed about 25 per person.Would highly recommend.

Very disappointing. I don't normally post reviews but I'm making an exception in this case.¹ Two of the three meals ordered were not as described. The sauce and salad was missing from one and a curry (which wasn't described as hot) was almost inedible due to the number of green chillies. Will definitely not be going back.

A favourite go to of ours but they have their off days. The good: the food is usually amazing, and the staff are great. Eat in or order out are both amazing quality and flavorful. The bad: the occasional slightly undercooked samoas. The ugly: none so far A great place to order from. Highly recommended.

Took a chance and tried a new restaurant for our Friday night takeaway. So glad I did, our food was freshly cooked with fresh herbs and spices , naans we lovely, this is my new go to restaurant! Well done Shukran this is what we want

3 vegetarian’s shared sag paneer, paneer balti, chana masala side, tarka dahl side, pilau rice & naan.. only cost £22 and tasted out of this world! Best Indian in a long time, highly recommend.

Excellent food, very friendly staff, very reasonable prices - can't fault it.

Ordered the Thursday special banquet (collected as still lockdown 3.0). Mixed kebab starter was quite dry, think it was just cooked too long. Poppadoms were lovely though.Chicken tikka jalfrezi for main was tasty in flavour but again, dry meat. Best parts were saag paneer which was a garlicky delight, peshwari naan which was soft and fluffy and the proper chunky Indian chips. Mixed pilau rice was also nice. 3.5/5 but as it was first time trying here, would go back for a second chance!

I like this place. Fast becoming my favourite Indian food choice for delivery and restaurant. Seen a negative reviews on chips!! etc. Maybe Indian cuisine is not for you. Thumbs up and 5 star.

Ordered take away. Food not great reheated chips that tasted sour very very sweet korma and not very creamy. Nan bread very small and not a garlic bread as ordered. Waitresses looked very miserable and hardly cracked as smile. True what they say you get what you pay for

We were looking for somewhere to eat and it just happened to be the last day of the "eat out to help out"After trying other places and finding out they were fully booked it was a bit confusing when my wife got through to Shukran and they said; yes we can take your booking. what time do you want?When we got there it was rammed, s**thead waiter was running around ranting (in his language) then saying sorry we have mis-calculated. People were banked up outside and rammed inside. It's a small place and there was no social distancing at all. The barman had a mask on but it was on and off, really this is how we are in this situation with the coronavirus multiplying. Oh the food was ok,

Just had an excellent meal tonight with the family. Despite being really busy service and food were spot on.

I visited for the first time today from a friends recommendation. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was beautiful I had a lovely fish curry without the hot stuff! We all enjoyed our food and the beer and Prosecco. Sami served us and he was a real character nothing any problem great service. It is a definite recommendation.

Just been to the Shukran for the 1st time as a family if 4. Had a mix of starters including king prawn and mixed kebab. Mains of korai, jalfrezi and masala with rice and breads. Have to say was absolutely lovely. Had a couple of bottles of wine to wash it down. Staff were so friendly and one little waiter was like basil faulty and made us laugh the whole night. Would definitely recommend. Thank you the Shandrans!!

Had a fantastic meal, we just walked in even though it was on an 'eat out to help out' night, the food was great, mixed kebab followed by a chefs special curry. All 3 waiters were very attentive even though they were busy as it was the first night they had gone onto the scheme. One of the waiters was like a comedy act as he worked. Very friendly place, nice meal, we will definitely visit again.

Fab midweek treat, food was lovely and service was great. All staff were lovely, very attentive, however one in particular was hilarious, had us in stitches!! First time we’ve visited but it won’t be the last!!

Started off going for the amazing value for money deal on a Friday night, now I’m fully hooked and can’t stop ordering whenever I’m hungry with such speedy delivery service it makes this one of my favourites places to order from just eat!

Eating here for second time this week, as we are visiting from Norway. Fantastic food, and it is a long time since I have laughed so much. Sammy is very attentive, and so entertaining. The locals all come in for their meal, which is always a good sign, and you made us feel very welcome. My Dad will be talking about this night for ages!!

We visited the Shukran earlier this week, and weren't disappointed. From the poppadoms to the end of the meal, it was a taste extravaganza! Absolutely delicious - in fact so good, we're going back again tonight. Apart from the excellent food, the waiter Sammy was just so attentative and entertaining. Well worth a visit!

Sami is the nicest restraint worker I have ever met, I have been going to this restaurant for a long time and I will continue coming back. They are also allowing people to have sit down meals again which I will definitely be back for. Best food best service THE BESTTT!!!!!!!

I was visiting Whitley Bay, hadn’t planned ahead and was hoping to find somewhere to enjoy a curry. I Struck gold! I found the Shukran & ordered a Moni Puri. Sammy took my order & I asked for a little extra chilli heat. It was just perfect. Sammy (hope I spelled his name right) is a real character, very friendly and helpful. The place was quiet (only just out of lockdown) but my meal couldn’t have been better. Hoping to go back again later this week.

We usually sit in at this friendly restaurant, first time we've been there for take away and I think we'll have to go again.The flavours in the food are delicious and the stuffed paratha is possibly the best I have ever had, not nearly as greasy as they are from other places, but not dry at all.Looking forward to them re-opening after lockdown, but in the meantime more take-aways are called for.

Ordered home delivery through Just Eat this evening. Food delivered 50 minutes late, stone cold and with items missing. Very disappointed after reading good reviews. Disappointment made worse when I called restaurant and was told I would have to take my complaint up with Just Eat

My fiancé decided to bring me out to Shukran for a meal and I have to say it is absolutely beautiful and only just finished starter. Pickle tray and poppadums came out first and it’s the best tasting tray I’ve tasted then my starter of Kathi Kebab out of this world. The atmosphere and friendly ness of all the staff can’t fault it at all it’s definitely somewhere I will recommend and come back too. Can’t wait for my main course of chicken rogan josh.

Came here for the first time and very impressed. Food is delicious very good value for money. We came from the South side of the Tyne tunnel as I've heard some amazing reports and my god I was right. We will definitely be returning.

Been hear a few times and every time it keeps getting better, I keep trying new things from the menu that end up being just as amazing as the last; now finding it hard to choose! A personal family favourite, mainly down to the fact of the amazing service and out of the world food.

Came across this restaurant totally by chance by asking in a local pub (who recommends this one above all others in Whitley bay), but have already been back the following week, and we live 120 miles away......The food is amazing and the service is second to none. Great value for money too.Simply superb.

What a hidden gem in Whitley bay Went with friends for birthday bash and was so impressed Modern chic decor and so welcoming All staff chatty super efficient but not over familiar Food was just first class My chicken Shaslik came sizzling and succulent with a crisp salad Naans light and sweet Good prices and they even arranged a taxi to take us home Fabulous be back soon

Really good food with a very extensive menu , only missed out on 5* as I find £4.50 for a pint a bit expensive..

Ordered a takeaway last night, had an identical on 6 days earlier this bore no resemblance to the earlier meal. The main chicken dish was bland without any spices or chilli unlike the earlier one, it seemed that a chicken breast had been added to a dhal used as a side dish.

We went with a group between christmas and new year for our annual curry. We try different places but this place is a favoured spot for lads nights out when we have them (we are middle aged).

This is a small restaurant, very clean . They staff are very friendly and the food is outstanding. Not your typical Indian. The menu is very authentic to different regions and taste. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food and great service

Me and the better half decided to pop out for a sit in rather than a takeaway which we normally have from here. As it was Thursday they have a special on. My wife likes a Chicken Tikka Masala and I vary between hot curries. For starter My wife has chicken Tikka pieces and I normally have a tandoori mixed kebab. All totally delicious!! Tonight I decided to have a change to my starter and had king prawns cooked in the shell. I’ve never tasted anything more delicious for years!! The prawns just melted in my mouth! The flavour of gently added spices were absolutely delicious. When I spoke to the owner “Faz” and told him of my experience he modestly smiled and said “thank you” what a legend!! My Chicken madras was beautiful and the chicken succulent. Four pints of cobra and a gin and tonic plus a nan bread. Poppodoms and dips just under £50. Amazing value. Faz even gave us a a drink “for the road” a whiskey for me and a Baileys for the wife. Highly recommended. A gem in Whitley Bay ❤️

Food amazing staff attentive definitely be going back recently had food at a more well known restaurant that was not up to the standard of this restaurant it's a hidden gem among so many Indian restaurant in Whitley bay. Hope this post gets everyone trying this you will not be disappointed. Other Indians do "specials" but this restaurant food is just as good value but the quality is far superior can't wait to eat here again
