Gulshan in North Tyneside

First time of going after moving to Tynemouth recently. Food was quite bland actually. We had a Tika Masala which was pretty good, but everything else, including the Bhuna was flavourless. Portions were ok. 4 pieces of chicken in a lot of sauce to fill the bowl - otherwise it would have looked quite empty. Waitresses got our order wrong twice. Bill was also wrong. Not a great experience. Value for money was ok though as we went before 6:30 when they had an early bird menu.

A perfect experience. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be going again. Highly recommended

My husband and I went at around 7.45pm on Saturday to be told that a table would not be available for half and hour to an hour, or a table could be set up in reception for us. My husband replied "its ok mate, it doesn't matter" and we started to leave. The man we had been speaking to said "how rude" and when I went back and asked what he meant by that, he said that my husband was very rude. I asked in what way and all the guy would say was that my husband had been very rude and he didn't like his attitude. My husband's attitude?? We had only declined an offer to wait half an hour to an hour for a table or have a table set up in reception with everyone walking past. Hence we will not be going back to what I feel is an overpriced restaurant and the last time we visited served only mediocre food.

I found this place a bit odd, I must admit. Staff were rather inattentive and didn't smile. Order taking was a bit hit and miss, had to ask for a Naan bread three times and didn't receive one glass of wine at all. The Onion Bhaji starter was fried to a crisp - I mean it turned into dust when I cut into it. Main course was OK. Had much better elswhere and won't be back in a hurry

Great food and the staff were lovely

The food was delicious. It’s the nicest I’ve had in a long time. The service was excellent, very highly recommended. Will certainly go back next time I’m in tynemouth.

£13.90 for a Glass of Wine.... Won't be going back!!! But can't fault the Food.... It was noisy when we were there Alan Shearer was there with his Friends

Friends and family dining out together. Our first visit to Gulshan (we’re from closer to London) and my God was this place heaving on a Saturday night! Stunning restaurant, great ambience, clean and very presentable. Absolutely not a single empty seat (just to show how busy it was) but we had thankfully pre-booked. A lot of noise from conversations so at times difficult to hear each other but perfect if you want to take noisy kids/babies, their screams/cries/shouts will go unnoticed🤣 we had 3 kids and 3 teenagers with us, they’re the quieter ones. Very good customer service, polite, respectful and kind. Food portions were adequate, tasty and given in good time. Parking was a little challenge, spaces taken but eventually got there. We will defo go back there when we visit Newcastle again.

Absolutely wonderful. We were a group of ten adults and children visiting early evening. The service and food were exceptional. We had quite a variety of dishes but we were all served together, and the staff were just brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. The food? I'm salivating now just thinking about it! Without doubt we'll be back. My thanks to all concerned at the restaurant.

Ordered the sharing Popadoms, Onion Bahji n condiments….. turned up as a broken, mixed up concoction in a bowl. Very strange! Main course was Butter chicken and Garlic Naan. Questioned the dish to the waitress as tasted of Coconut and raw curry powder. Definitely not Butter Chicken but Waitress confirmed this was Gulshans signature dish Butter chicken. Spicy, Coconut and raw herbs! New age Indian maybe? The Restaraunt was bust though so maybe throwing things together to cope?? Wouldn’t rush back.

Lovely food & service from the friendly staff was excellent. Especially Victoria who was very nice & got us complementary glass of prosecco when we told her we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.

Good vegetarian food and friendly service

Sorry, not to my tastes at all. Jalfrezi and madras were OK but paneer tikka a disaster. Kormas were rejected by the kids as too much gritty coconut. Tikka Masala was waay sweet..? Bhindi was 50% onion, tarka daal bland with cloves of almost raw garlic and no tarka/tadka! OK naans, great service from enthusiastic team. Shame, last time we enjoyed it.

This restaurant is good, my starter was plentiful and lovely, however, I had the Chicken Korma for my main and it was like the chef had dropped a bag of sugar into the dish (no exaggeration). Honestly, it’s the worst I’ve had. I had to eat the chicken and rice whilst trying to avoid the sauce (not easy).

The flavour of the food was outstanding but the portions could have been a little bigger considering how pricey the food was.

Cute little restaurant with amazing food and just a short walk from the seaside. I had the chicken Tikka, onion bhaji, butter chicken and garlic naan. It was delicious! Some of the best I've had. Will definitely visit again when I'm traveling. My waiter (young guy with the glasses bc I didn't catch his name) was fantastic.

Popped in for dinner after being recommended and can see why it was recommended! Service was fab, very friendly staff and made the night very enjoyable The decor was modern with plenty of "instagramable" moments! The food, The most important part, absolutely incredible. Very tasty and bursting with so many flavours Ended up eating most of the main before I remembered the take a photo!! Will be back very very soon and would definitely recommend

We had been to gulshan years ago. Thought the food was exceptional and the staff gave great customer service. We just realised gulshan does takeout so we ordered yesterday. Thank you very much you did not dissapoint 😁 food was amazingly delicious 🤤😋 as we remembered and delivered hot despite the distance. Aswell as rating you highly you also get 👍👍 kindest regards

We have been before and all good. This changed on Saturday 12th May. We had booked as we had grandsons. Sat and ordered at 6, by half 6 still hadn't got our starters. Asked and apparently our order hadn't been processed. Strange as people who had come in after us already had eaten there starters and were on their main. So after 45 minutes we had our starters with a cursory apology. Then a further half hour before we got the main course. We might have forgiven but the place was not slammed. So only cursory apology and no discount for the wait we not be visiting again for a while.

Having eaten here before we were looking forward to it. The staff were lovely and friendly but the food was nothing outstanding. It all goes down to personal taste

Came last night for the first time saw it on TikTok and what can I say me and my partner love to eat out and try new places and it’s always a waist of money this was genuinely a fantastic night out worth every penny we made a fantastic friend young lad with glasses but I can’t remember his name as I was half cut but he kept filling my wine glass food amazing place amazing only this is the noise from the pub underneath

Stumbled across this restaurant by accident following a walk along the beach. Restaurant is absolutely lovely and the staff even lovelier. Food was so good and we will definitely be visiting again !

This is a takeaway review BUT second takeaway I’ve ordered from here and it’s been mediocre. The mixed grill is really dry and chewy, particularly the lamb and it all carries the same spice flavour.

Have been to this restaurant many times but tonight was not a good experience due to the fact my husband got a full glass of wine spilt on him we know accident happen but it was how it was dealt with the managers attitude was terrible offered free drinks only after lots of discussion we were offered 50 per cent off the bill but it had already spoiled our night his t shirt is ruined and it has put us off coming back just for the fact of how it was dealt with such a shame as always had a good experience and lovely food

Food was fantastic, busy Saturday night so service was abit slow, wrong dish brought out but was tasty and a forgotten starter but quickly rectified. Would return..best butter chicken I've had ! Nachodoms were amazing!!

In on a Sunday night, we'd reserved a table, but possibly wasn't necessary. Seated promptly. Impressive ambience and decor as you walk in. Our server was very nervous and clearly had just started, but was really friendly and had a can do attitude. Food was absolutely tremendous and generously portioned. Ghulshan Handi signature Curry was absolutely delicious. My first time here and was on the recommendation of a friend. I see exactly why he rates it so highly, I'll certainly be back in future. Highly recommended.

First time visiting this restaurant and it was a fabulous night. We were a party of nine people and the seating was perfect where everyone was able to talk. Food was gorgeous and good portions. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent even though it was busy the whole time we were in. Will definitely be back.

Went to Gulshan on Saturday 3rd Feb, with my wife, and it was fabulous. The venue is lovely, and we got a window seat, which was nice. The food was gorgeous and portion size good for a big eater, sadly I am not :) This was only the second time I have been to Gulshan, last time was my quiet stag doo in 2016 with a few friends. My wife and I will definitely be back soon.

Visited Gulshan on Saturday night, was greeted in a friendly manner and our table was ready straight away by a window which was beautiful. The food came out quick and tasted amazing. All staff were very helpful and happy to help, definitely service with a smile here. We will be back.

This restaurant is always such a lovely place to dine. It exudes a warm and inviting ambiance that immediately puts you at ease. The staff and the manager are friendly and attentive, making you feel like a valued guest. The menu offers a delectable range of dishes to choose from, and the dishes are truly authentic and savory. Visited with a friend, had the Thursday special banquet menu which offered excellent value. The food was fabulous. The restaurant was busy but the service was very good and the staff friendly and welcoming.

Food arrived cold and on ringing them they didn't want to know just said contact just eat. Will never use them again it was expensive for a curry and we thought it would be a treat how wrong we were . So disappointed

Coming from a food critic... My First time here tonight, after my partner had raved on about it for months, and we will most definitely be using Gulshan everytime I'm treating myself out to an Indian, the 30 minute drive was worth it... Everything about this place was Absolutely Amazing 👏 ... •On Entry... greeted by the Owner and Staff and taken to our table... we was offered to take a photograph of us all, in this great place they have set up for photos. • The Service.... it was great to see the Owner Working in the Restaurant, Speaking to and Serving Customers, giving you a lovely warm Welcome... I Love this in a Restaurant, it really makes your Experience so much more... other staff all on the ball and service with a Smile which was lovely to see (sadly very rare these days you get this) • The Food.... WOW, we was welcomed with this new starter dish, "Nochadoms" broken Poppadoms with this amazing Chilli Jam, onions and some fried things on top, so Yummy!! Definitely a dish to start with 💯 Then Myself and my Partner both ordered the "Lamb Staff Curry," Me Loving Naga asked for mine Naga Hot and my Partner Madras Hot. Non of this was even questioned, they was more than happy to amend the dishes to our tasting... This was Lush, every bite 🫦 was so good, the Lamb melted off the bone, cooked to perfection 👌 the girls ordered "Chicken Madras" and "Chicken Rogan Josh" the Chappatis were noce and soft, bith rice dishes were lovely and the Garlic Naan was Divine, all absolutely loved our meals 😋 • Drinks... I've had some Strawberry Daiquiri's in my time but never really enjoyed them. Gulshans Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri 🍓 is the best I've ever had and I actually enjoyed every bit of it... my partner got a Pint of Cobra, good cold bubbly Pint, he's and some terrible pints in some places we have visited but these we're spot on 👌 We spoke to the Manager on numerous Occasions throughout the evening, the Manager himself came out singing Happy Birthday to my partners daughter with a Lovely Chocolate Cheese Cake and a lit fountain which was Simply Delicious 😋... Overall what a great Evening, Great Atmosphere, Great Service were the Staff go out of there way to make you feel Welcome ands Happy 🙏 Amazing Food and good prices.... This is a must Indian Restaurant to Visit, doesn't matter how far your coming from you will not be disappointed with Gulshan Tynemouth and the travel will be worth it. A family of 4 all the food we had including alcoholic drinks and pop and came to £129 no service charge, which is great as you get to pick your tips and the staff actually get it , which is always great to know...

Ordered a meal for 3 ,and it was spoilt as 2 of our party were vegetarian ,the rice dishes both orded as a veg option were served with meat ,My wife being a vegetarian for over forty years and I didn't notice the rice with meat.The server although was apologetic ,the manager was not ,and although he took the price of the rice and one dish from the bill ,the night was spoilt .Will not be eating there again ,the food we received was average .

Appalling! Accidentally served my mum a meat based dish breaking 40 years of vegetariansim , total lack of understanding from the manager and the wait staff , total joke . Don't go here

Service not as good as it used to be food standard has dropped alcohol prices have gone up to much, sorry to say we wont be back. I have spent a lot of money in this restaurant over the years but my last visit was my last. £17 for 2 gin and tonics is out of order.

Yikes. When we walked in, we were greeted with a wall of dirty cups and dishes stacked across the bar. While they didn’t appear to be overly busy, the staff seemed stretched thin and all aspects of our service was slow. While we enjoyed the nachodoms, the king prawns were over cooked and rubbery, the chicken korma tasted as if a cup of white sugar had been stirred in, and the was poor (i.e. Pepsi products, but no actual Pepsi). Bonus points for being dog friendly and allergen aware, but overall I would not recommend dining here.

Absolutely amazing, as always. The food, staff, atmosphere 10/10, couldn't recommend more, whether you're dining in or getting take-out.

Unfortunately a poor experience. We booked the table a few weeks in advance for a Saturday night at 7.45pm. A celebration meal for myself and my husband. We were not seated in the main restaurant but in a side room with only 3 tables. We ordered poppadum, starters and mains and within 5 minutes we received the poppadums and pickles and that was the end of our food experience. We sat and waited for about 20 minutes enjoying our drinks, and then sat for a further 30 minutes with empty glasses. I had to get the attention of a waiter who said he would ask in the kitchen and we were then asked if we wanted to order more drinks. After waiting over an hour since getting the popadums our main courses came out..... completely missing the starters. We decided to leave, total lack of attention by the waiting staff. The manager offered to give us the meal for free however our experience had been ruined and it was almost 9pm so we left.

Gulshan catered for my wedding on the 18th August 2023, Komal and the team were unbelievably helpful. The food was amazing and his helpfulness was unmatched. Every guest enjoyed the food and me and my wife were impressed by how helpful he was. Thank you Gulshan and the team.

I just had Spicy Garlic chips, it was delicious and absolutely best.

Had the best curry ever last night, the staff lamb curry was amazing. Second visit, had the handi lamb, probs half the meat in the dish as last time. Drinks mega too especially wine, will not be rushing to return as very expensive now !

Lovely decor, friendly staff, and delicious food that is reasonably priced. Nachodoms were an interesting and very filling starter for 2 to share. The chicken tikka jalfrezi was one of the best I have ever had anywhere. Wine was reasonably priced, too. All in all, we had a lovely evening, and we will go back.

Second time visiting. A little on the pricey side in comparison to my local Indian down south. I went for the Nachodoms and they were incredible! Would highly recommend. Then I decided to go for chicken shashlik. This was very tasty, I did ask for it to be more spicy but they didn't add anything. My biggest concern was the service. I can't fault the people but the amount of people there was too many. We went at opening time but they literally were standing around staring and as soon as we were finished with a dish, collected it. It felt like they wanted us in and out very quickly. I would visit again but would hope for a better experience as it is nice food.

Food was great. Unfortunately service added 2 additional bottles of wine, when questioned (and encouraged to look at the CCTV) I was made to feel as though I was in the wrong. Terrible customer service, and won't be back. Shame.

Absolutely beautiful food, venue is so pretty but my biggest compliment must go to your lovely young staff, what a lovely team you have so polite especially Louise, what an asset she is, she got such a nice manner with her customers, well done Louise.

Had a great night here, friendly welcome, seated fast, and lovely the decoration in the restaurant area. The menu has traditional currys and chef specials. They also do frozen cocktails if the heat of the curry gets too much. I always book a table before visiting as it is a poplar restaurant. It's definitely worth a visit.

Picked this place for the nachodoms which were very nice but £7.50 for a bowl of broken poppadoms with an onion bhaji broken on top and some sauce is a bit excessive. Ended up sitting next to the noisiest table in tynemouth and even thought about asking to be moved somewhere quieter. The rest of the food was just okay. Two of the meals ordered were exactly the same apart from one you could see steam coming off when the lid was lifted and the other was warm. Staff were great even if they did ask if we wanted more drinks and had to say we're still waiting for the drinks we ordered to arrive. I have had much better indian food in other places. Toilets weren't great either you don't expect to have to carefully place your feet over puddles of piss when going. I wish i had asked to move to another table, at first i thought it would have been pointless as the place was full but later noticed only half the place was being used. Probably wouldn't recomend. Sorry not sorry.

Awful. Went there tonight for a meal with my husband. I ordered vegetable Dansak and was given prawn Dansak. Unfortunately, I had already started eating it before I realised what it was. I've been a vegetarian for 22 years so I was pretty upset. They did not understand at all and they brought another one out, which I did not feel like eating. They also said they would take the cost of the meal off the bill, which they didn't, so we ended up paying full price and went home hungry. Totally spoilt our night out. It specifies on the menu that they serve vegetarian food but vegetarians beware!

We are regular visitors here. The food is always delicious. The staff / service is great, very friendly and polite staff, which makes all the difference. Had the early evening special, very good value.. We'll be back soon. Food was as great as usual. Thank you.

We usually dine in and have nothing but praise for the food however after ordering take out today sadly we were not impressed. The delivery was to be one and a half hours but ended up being over two hours. The lamb in the meal was lovely but lacked sauce and over powered with crunchy onions, I’m afraid to say most of the meal was left and not enjoyed!

Disappointed. Had some lovely food from here previously but last nights take away was a real let down. The breads were very dense, heavy and chewy - not light and fluffy like I’ve received previously. The chicken, whilst in good quantity, was really over cooked, like rubber. Prawns were similar but not as bad. Overall this is an expensive place where a premium is charged for quality food. This was not quality on this occasion or anywhere near it. Back to Dabbawal for us as they are always consistent and excellent.

Fantastic evening and top notch spicy food. Would say I was a little disappointed by the service or lack of it at times. Food was delicious and would highly recommend the poppadom nachos sharing plate. Very good!! Nachodoms!!!! Decent IPA Cobra beer, also available is non alcoholic Cobra. Kids menu available. Clean inside. Tasty Indian!!! Takes American Express.

Decided to go to Gulshan early doors (5.15) for a New Years Eve treat .... VERY DISAPPOINTING .. the food was a complete let down sooo bland, could still taste the raw powder spices in the jalfreze the butter chicken had no taste the garlic in the rice was like chewing leather. The bill has a 20% service charge that they tell you about while walking you to your table and they stick a £1 cash for kids optional donation on before asking or telling you about. I'd have been more than pleased to pay both if the food had been good. All in all a massive let down tonight and I've ate there previously on many an occasion and been highly satisfied ... but NOT tonight.

Second visit here for us food was great very good (again 😋 ) staff very professional friendly attentive they run a smooth ship. If your in Tynemouth and like a curry this place is for you. We were 2 adults and 2 children

First visit tonight, impressed from the moment we walked in, beautiful decor, great welcome , friendly attentive service from the two girls serving us ( sorry we didn’t get their names) , great cocktail list, modern menu , food served at the perfect pace, delicious Rioja Blanco, loads of fish options which was an added bonus for me. Had my birthday here, food was amazing and the waitress who looked after us was truly amazing. She laughed and joked with us and made the party atmosphere great. Also a small complimentary dessert and Prosecco. I would recommend this restaurant very highly

Disappointing. Service time and food was a lower standard than usual. To be fair when we arrived at 7:30pm they were very busy, however our first drinks order didn’t arrive until we chased 20 mins later. We had popadoms before our starters but it took 1hr 10mins from ordering to receive our mains. Lamb Handi main was over spiced with aniseed flavour and we had to return. To be fair they didn’t charge for first round of drinks. Won’t be going back soon though.

Unreal! If anyone wants fine Indian cuisine this is the place to go! Food was sensational and the service was second to none! Give it a go you won’t be disappointed!!!! Thank you so much to the Gulshans team!

First time experience at Gulshan tonight and it was 5* from start to finish. The food was a taste sensation, I ordered the vindaloo and it was extremely tasty. We were served by 2 young polite and attentive young ladies who are a credit to Gulshan, I will definitely be returning in the near future!

Jal Jal naan bread is out of this world, food is always amazing !! Cannot fault the staff, service or quality.
