Shoryu in City of London, Westminster

Ate here a few years ago and boy, how standards have slipped! We booked a table ahead of time and when we arrived, we were left standing at the entrance for what felt like at least 5 minutes. There was a member of staff that repeatedly walked past us but actively avoided looking at or acknowledging us. Eventually, another member of staff did show us to our table. The food is mediocre at best now, what you will find is that the balance is 80% rice or noodles, whatever meat you order will definitely be countable, with the odd bit of vegetables thrown in to tick the box. Their profile photo needs a serious update as that is paramount to false advertising. Unsurprisingly, getting the bill also took considerable time as that very same female member of staff continued with her antics. What was more annoying was when we paid. Not only do they charge a default 12.5% "service charge" whilst offering nothing of the sort, but as we paid in cash, they proceeded to short change us - as if charging once for non-existent service was not enough! Simply put, never again - plenty of better Asian or Japanese places in the immediate area. Even going hungry and fasting a little would be better than visiting this place...

Went with some friends. Ordered from the vegan menu as I am vegetarian. Was given a chicken dish which I had started before realising. Terrible customer service. Was asked ‘do you not eat animals then’. Because of where we were sitting we had to then sit in front of the Manager and Chef shouting at each other. Had to ask twice for the dish to be removed from the bill. Manager did not apologies for the mistake either. Thankfully it is a preference not an allergy otherwise it could have been a lot worse.

Bon restaurant japonais, avec beaucoup de choix, notamment la spécialité de la maison: les ramens. Cuisine réconfortante après une balade dans le froid londonien. Les portions sont généreuses (surtout si vous choisissez une portion de nouille supplémentaire). De plus, le cadre est magnifique avec une décoration typique japonaise assez bien réussie. Came for lunch. Was not disappointed. Was looked after by polite and friendly wait person. Food came out in reasonable time, piping hot. No complaints here. Highly recommended.

I eat out a few times a week and wouldn’t say I’m fussy, but tonight’s restaurant experience was poor. The service was inattentive. The food was mediocre (tough, gristly beef yakitori, chicken wings without much flavour). The dessert was really poor. Tiny and texture less mochi, sliced in half on a white oblong dish. Quite a sad presentation and zero taste. Everything took ages. It’s been a long week and I enjoyed my evening anyway, so I was no way in the mood to deal with it all and for £50 I couldn’t be bothered. But I do feel it was a lacklustre restaurant and wouldn’t go back.

I had lunch here and ordered the express lunch menu with came with a pork bun, tonkotsu ramen and coffee. The pork bun was a little too cold for my liking and pork was fatty. Coffee was also lukewarm, ramen was ok. A place for a quick lunch.

Food wasn't bad, but also nothing I'd be rushing back for. Service was throw a menu you and point at a qr code. Drinks arrived after the food. But after service was even worse, I realised on the tube I had lost a ring with sentimental value while I was there. Have tried to get in contact on the off chance they might find it but they ignore all communication! I don't love locally so guess it's gone forever, but just an acknowledgement would have gone a long way!

As a fairly recent ramen convert, this restaurant is good for all. We had differing tastes and dietary requirements that were all met with ease and everyone agreed that the food was very tasty. The location is also good and has a great ambience as there is plenty around it.

Ok We got a table and beers, all fine. The beef yakitori was tough, the glaze was either absent, or so insignificant that it seemed to absent. The portion (£5 each) was 3-4 inches by about 1 inch. The BBQ pork bun was pretty awful ie a piece of insipid pork about 2inches square, the teeniest bits of lettuce and cucumber, and a generous slather (ugh) of some very ordinary creamy mayo. It wasn’t nice. I would leave a review of the chicken curry - but it never arrived…… In mitigation? The woman doing front of house was filling in for someone and was working her socks off. All credit to her. Overall, the food was unpleasant, but if the kitchen was a short staffed as the serving team it’s not surprising something has to suffer.

First time trying a Japanese and now I'm hooked. The food was incredible - the service was on a different level and the manager was phenomenal. Cannot recommend it enough - one of the best dining experiences I've had.

Generally good for a Shoryu - was quiet with it being the Friday before Xmas but good place for pre-theatre dinner Food was delicious as always at a Shoryu (this was first time at Liverpool street one) - some minor errors in taking our dessert order which impacted the bill, but generally service was OK

I didn’t eat here but ordered delivery from here instead. The ramen was yummy; they separated the noodles from the soup so that they wouldn’t get soggy, and the fried chicken was also separated. I didn’t particularly like the bun, but it could be because it didn’t travel well in the cold.

Worst service ever . Waited for more than an hour for our food. Then when realized they forget to placed the order they want to give a free meal. Sorry to say but we can afford the meal. No Japanese around supposed. That’s why it happened. This was appalling

My lunch companion and i used to each eat regularly here but we won't return after today's experience. According to a banner on the top of the menu, the Broadgate Circle opens at 11:30. When we arrived at 11:45 we were informed that the kitchen actually opens at 12:00. I had limited time as I needed to be back in the office for a 13:00 meeting, so asked if we could sit down to peruse the menu and get our orders into the kitchen first. The waitress didn't take our order in advance to get our order in the kitchen straight away but did turn up at our table right at noon. Service was a little slow, and we were worried about the time so we asked for the cheque at 12:45 and paid for our meal by card while we were still eating. After leaving were chased down the Circle by the cashier who accused us of not paying our bill. I was annoyed (couldn't he just ask our waitress?), but had to leave for my meeting but my lunch companion was livid. She thought our treatment was due to being two women of ethnic origin in the City (as well as our waitress forgetting to mark our bill as paid). When my companion complained to the manager he kept going on about some incident last week which was totally irrelevant. So if you have limited time, don't eat at Shoryu. You probably won't get served on time and you might be accused of theft too, which might be subject to ethnic or gender discrimianation.

Place is accessible and lots of shops nearby as well. It’s also a walking distance from Liverpool station. This restaurant is bustling especially during weekdays, lots of people from their workplace come to this place, make sure to book a table. The food was great! We ordered Takoyaki, Ramen, Chicken Katsu and Wakame Salad. They were all scrumptious, and i finished the katsu(large serving) didn’t expect it to be in a large plate 😅 Anyway, the staff also did their best to entertain the customers, since they have lots of orders from one table to another and also people coming in to eat. 👍🏻👍🏻

The service was good, the waitress served us was nice, but the food signature ramen we ordered was far from excellent or good even OK-soup was not hot, braised pork was half cold(I know they cook meat in advance to ensure prompt serve but you have to let your guest at least have warm meat, this is a common standard we think), and noodle was not as good as before. Delish food.. shame about service. It was Friday night and obviously broadgate is crazy busy so they were more interested in sorted them out but we had some lovely food. But they forgot out drinks so we asked again, then we asked for the bill and the lady forgot, so i asked again and she bought it over.. with service charge which j asked her to take off as service was pants which she did. Then we left (sooo fast by the way.. we were in the venue for 30 mins!) Then the same lady kindly chased me when i left my jacket in there.. very sweet

Food is delicious and a great place if your looking for a quick lunch date. Wouldn’t recommend as somewhere to relax and dine as everything seems to come quite quickly. Definitely worth stopping by for lunch for Ramen! They give you bibs to ensure no spillages.

Visited this place with my husband today and tbh, the food was okay. A little bit on the salty side but overal okay.

Dinner was really good, we had 2 buns, one hallumy and one pumpkin and 2 ramens, one vegetarian and one seafood. served telly fast as well!! Me and my partner were very impressed.

Just visited this location and cant help but feel a bit ripped off. It cost £50 for 2 bao buns, 2 soft drinks and 2 average mains (ramen & small chicken skewers) I had the halloumi bao and I would not recommend it, it literally had one small thin slice of cheese in it and a tiny piece of avo.

Just dropped in for dinner on Monday while in city. Food was lovely, but it was the service that really stood out. The staff took time to give advice on menu, were friendly, quick and just good at their jobs. Very happy we came.

Cannot avoid the idea of having a warming Ramen in such a windy and rainy midday in London. This time I step in Shoryu Liverpool Street and decided for the Shoryu Ganso Tonkotsu that includes fried shallots and give an extra tasty flavour with three pieces of gyoza and dared with a glass of Nigori Sake, the cloudy Sake to chill after get warmed up. I was delighted. I have to remark the patience of the tiny waitress -unusual in some places- who kindly recommended me the Nigori Sake to pair with my meal and double checked my food. Last but not least, the place is comfortable but it would be more if you add a playlist of smooth piano jazz to enrich the atmosphere. A place I will be back to. Thank you.

Catriona our waitress was very obliging and kindly swapped a mocktail for a cocktail when one of our party accidentally ordered the wrong thing (menu could have been clearer!). Food was excellent. Despite forgetting part of our order, the staff were very helpful and ensured that we got everything we originally requested even though the kiatchen was closing. We appreciated Catriona's good humour!

Walking fast to beat really windy conditions in London between meetings and finding Shoryu was such a welcome interlude. The last time I had ramen in the cold was in Vancouver in December and it warmed me up then as it did today. Delicious tofu and seaweed, broccoli and standard bite noodles in a spicy broth hit the right spot! The bib that was offered was much needed and ensured I looked presentable for the next meeting!

The food was great but the service was really TERRIBLE: it seemed that only one of the waiters was working and the other ones were chatting or eating and did not want to be disturbed. Not to mention the barman that was literally screaming each time a drink was ready. My advice: go to another branch

They serve delicious ramen (noodle soup). The place cannot be reserved for lunch, but service is quick and the place is packed with tables, so waiting times are not very long. It can be a but noisy but that's ok for an informal lunch. Just avoid tables near the door - staff does not really help closing door when people get in, so I had to stand multiple times to close the door myself!

This place has the best ramen i have tasted in London. I tried the the hakata tonkotsu which was delicious. They also have this beer that is served slightly frozen which is something quirky and definitely worth trying.

Great little find, the ramen soup with pork belly was absolutely delicious and the wine (Viognier) was great too. Service was okay, they’re not overly attentive but the food made up for it. I’d definitely visit again

I met a friend here for dinner while I was in London on Business. The service was fast, the food delicious and the variety on the menu was amazing. And it wasn't too expensive!

It lacked good service. If you gonna charge me 12,5 % it should be good. had to get my own menu and had to order inside. Don’t really know what the waitress was doing that day. She was dropping glasses and while cleaning tables dropping cutlery. Soup was nice noodles were a bit to hard for me. Would he nice if they could give you the option how you’ll like your noodles. Interior looks nice.

Outstanding Japanese noodles made perfectly with correct hardness options for the noodles. I tried the Dracula ramen for that extra garlic hit and some gyoza and both were outstanding. Service was unobtrusive and good and the ambiance, which today was outside under a perfect blue sky, was amazing. Very highly recommended!

I had the best ramen here: with truffles. Very very delicious! The service wasn't very quick and focused, but it was late in the evening and a lot of people were there. And it was worth to wait for this ramen anyways!

We went for lunch and it was 2-for-1 Bun Saturday. Our favourite is the Signature Ramen. They now have a kids menu with smaller versions of the adults dishes. My kids absolutely loved it! Their favourite was the BBQ pork belly bun and the Signature Ramen. Staff were very polite and friendly. Atmosphere would have been better if there weren't any smokers sitting outside blowing smoke fumes inside. Shoryu is delicious all the time, and is best in the winter with the warm bowls of cosy, yummy ramen. We will go back many times over and over.

Looking for a nice place to eat we found this place randomly. The food is so tasty and not overpriced, nice cocktails as well we got an yuzu mohito and a kaoru lavander. We will come back for sure!!!

Era nuestra primera vez tratando Shoryu y no nos decepcionó. La comida era excelente, especialmente el cerdo y el bollo de ramen. ! Pero también estaba buenísimo Takoyaki podría hacer con un poco más sustancioso dentro! Además, tuvimos que tener en tener que llamar la atención de la camarera, en vez de ser proactivo a pesar de tener un tiempo no muy concurrida en el restaurante.

我來過 Shoryu 幾次了，覺得拉麵都很好吃！bun也相當好吃，價位算平價偏貴，但是在倫敦絕對算是數一數二好吃的拉麵！甜點有抹茶蛋糕，沒有非常令人驚艷，但是久住倫敦想吃日本拉麵的人還是非常推薦 Shoryu

Make a reservation if you can as this place gets busy for obvious reasons. The food is fresh and quick to get served. A good mix of spices delivered with a very good filling ramen. The salmon and beef dishes are extremely good in taste and quality

A winter staple but not of the best value. The wafu chicken ramen is quite good but the tonkotsu is very very oily. The baos are good as an alternative (fried chicken). The gyozas are recommended as well (not freshly made though). Always very busy at lunch time.

It’s not often that you visit a restaurant, have the menu explained to you, ask to place an order and the server then says that he can’t serve you without explanation, but that’s what happened to us. The supervisor seemed equally puzzled but couldn’t rescue the situation. We walked out.

Compare to other London Tonkotsu Ramen places, I personally find Shoryu is the most authentic ones. Lovely rich creamy soup, with all the necessary toppings (especially red ginger) - others don't have all the toppings on their Tonkotsu Ramen so I always visit Shoryu when I need the Ramen-recharge.

There are many authentic Japanese Tonkotsu Ramen restaurants in London now and the only reason why we went there was the vouchers we received for us to try their Ramen. I am sorry but this place let us down a bit for their service. The food came very fast and the quality was not bad ( but not the best ). What they need to improve is their staff training. The lady who had a leader badge was efficient and professional but not sure about some of the male staff. Somehow we did not feel we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Also the drum they use when new customers arrive is a bit annoying too. I am not sure if I would choose this place for a ramen next time.

Visited Shoryu on Wednesday afternoon with my girlfriend.

I quite frequently go to other branches of Shoryu - Covent Garden in particular which is pretty good and also the one on Regent Street. I had previously been to this Liverpool St branch and had been disappointed but thought they might have had an off day and so tried it again yesterday. Very disappointing again - as before, the broth of the ramen in this branch is watery and tasteless and the noodles are overdone even though I asked for hard - overall, very much inferior to the other branches I have tried. The kitchen here needs sorting out or re-training - it is as if there is no quality control by comparsion to other branches.

すっかり定番化してるようです。豚骨ラーメン(麺ふつうの固さ)+メンマ追加+鉄鍋餃子3個。想像していたよりも美味しかったのでびっくりしました。ちゃんと豚骨してました。ただ、メンマは固くて固くて噛み切れなったです。もうちょっと味も染み込ませてほしい。餃子もなかなか悪くなかった。

I had the Kotteri Hakata Tonkotsu and it was delicious! The meaty broth was super flavourful and rich... Probably the best ramen I've eaten so far! We also ordered some pork belly buns, which were also nice, but nothing out of this world. Service was friendly and the place was also fairly nice.

Been told by friend how tasty the foods are, buy disappointed.First, been promised table for 5 will be ready in 3minutes, unfortunately three different staffs came told that another three minutes. Waiting over 15 minutes for table. Waiter, was not friendly and bit corky. Order from set menu chicken bun, he said you going for set menu?? If not why I need to point the set menu and order from that. Little attitude from him. To be honest, the service is worse compare to others. Staff was not rush for anything, you just been seat waiting for order, even for payment. Three lady need to stand and wait waiter to come for payment???Food wise, been served a cold chicken bun, bun is warm, but cover an cold chicken in. Disappointment with that. Approached staff for replacement. Ramen, tasteless. I'm ramen fan, but the pork ramen which famous very disappointment. Friend not even can finish the noodle soup. Waiter just lazy to walk over when cleaning the bowl. Asked to pass the empty bowl instead. I'm wondering are is this not part of the service. Table maintaining was poor, table did not been wipe after meal when offer coffee or others. Lastly, final bill been over charge additional ramen . Which waiter careless. How can the waiter charge 6 noodle (include 2 set menu) but only 5 noodle soup arrived??? To be honest, never experienced so bad service in an restaurant. Don't think I will be coming back again.

Me and my group of 3 friends came to Shoryu Liverpool on a busy Friday night, We had no booking made and were greeted by a friendly waiter that informed us that it will be around 10 minutes to get the table and offered us to wait at the counter near the entrance. We have received our table after 10 minutes sharp, so props to the team on time management. We ordered some sides, mains and drinks... Chicken Kara Age was definitely the highlight of my evening. Ramen was amazing and a great choice for the cold November`s evening.Service was swift, efficient and extremely friendly. Overall 10 out of 10, would recommend.

I've always been a fan of Shoryu and have always had an enjoyable meal here apart from last night. Don't get me wrong, the food is always up to standard but last night Sergio let your team down.He advised it was happy hour £6pound cocktails even though the sign said it finished by 7. So a couple of us took him up on the offer and ordered a couple of cocktails. Ended up being full price... sigh. Also, he forgot to bring out the tempura prawns and salmon sashimi. He apologised for the prawns and gave us a friendly gesture of sake, which we appreciated but when the bill came... he still charged us for the salmon even though we never got it. We asked for the service and salmon to be taken off the bill (which we normally always pay S.C) but Sergio was telling us that we were wrong and the salmon did come. It was an akward and unpleasant situation, especially when we left the restaurant he was speaking sarcastically to us before we left and telling his colleagues that we were lying...Sorry Shoryu, I'm always a fan of yours but last night's experience was unacceptable and won't be going to this branch again. Fortunately shoreditch has opened up now!

We nearly didn’t stay at this restaurant but were persuaded to by the very nice front of house who put us in a reasonably quiet spot so that we could talk. That is where the good experience ended. The pork buns for starters arrived followed a couple of seconds later by the first of our main courses - not a good start. The main courses then arrived in dribs and drabs with up to a 10 minute gap between each dish. Most of the dishes were cold and the pork belly meat, which comes with no sauce to disguise the taste, tasted off. I think the nice service at the beginning fogged our brain - in normal circumstances I would have sent everything back and asked for hot, fresh food to arrive at the same time. Perhaps this is a place to stick with ramen. We were just sorry that the waiting staff didn’t take the initiative and offer to send good not food.

This was our first real try of authentic Japanese ramen type food. We visited as a family on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is off a very scenic square. The Staff were very welcoming and spent time with us to explain the menu items which were quite different from our experience.They helped us make good choices. The food arrived promptly and was different and delicious.The GKK Daiginjo Sake was excellent.We will definitely return.

We loved this place! The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, the servers were all eager to help and recommend and the food was delicious. We even tried the octopus balls and were blown away. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

英人向けに作っているためか、スープがぬるいのが残念！！味と麺は合格点だけに、改善して欲しいです。オフィス街にあるため、昼間からかなり賑わっています。

The food didn't live up to the hype in my opinion. The service was good but slow at times. Unfortunately, the food was slightly lacking as I have had better pork ramen elsewhere in London.

Had a couple of smaller dishes. The beef skewer was very chewy and lacked any flavour. Had a small salmon don which was great with nice flavour.Unfortunately service was slow and the staff seem tired and disinterested.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is quite nice, mainly frequented by city workers. Plenty of choice on the menu but same quality as wagamama, I was expecting something more considering the price and all the surrounding. The service was adequate and we experienced slowness, also the dished are not served at the same time (like wagamama). I think that the way this restaurant looks like does not reflect the quality.

Good service and great option for lunch. I ordered the dracula tonkotsu as I like a slightly creamer broth choice. I was delicious! The food came quickly and was extremely tasty. I am also not usually a fan of boiled egg but this one had a nice flavour and yolk to it and I would have had more. Shoryu converted me to be a fan of ramen as I was unsure before. I have have tried it at a few places since but nothing compares to the experience at Shoryu... For lunch this is a great choice. LOTS of seating and quick turnaround.

Took vegetarian ramen and really enjoyed the food. Veggie broth is very tasty.However service charge directly included (12.5%) may not be the best client relation strategy
