Awful food. Had the fish and chips, the batter was rock hard, almost burned, the fish was soo dried up it was non existent, and the chips had been heavily salted. I then ordered the sticky toffee pudding, it was more like a syrup pudding and not a very good one, The serving staff were lovely, really helpful and friendly.

We sat and had the tapas. Couldn't fault any dish, all were superb, but we do like spicy! The Korean chicken was hot and spicy, but we think the star was the pork belly. Pretty good selection of ales, good atmosphere and good service, what's not to like?

Lovely pub, good local beer, really nice staff and atmosphere, nice background music, mostly classic reggae, not to loud, my rib eye steak was tasty and cooked perfectly , my wife had calfs liver which she said was very good, nothing not to like, will be going back

Pop here today for lunch not Been for a while...lovely helpful lady served us and offered menus. Sat outside nice little area ordered vegan tart and meatball sub both served with fries both tasty and good value for money. Would recommend Nice selection of beers wines and cocktails.

Looking for a decent place for a Sunday roast family event and saw reasonable reviews so gave it a try. Venue has nice atmosphere, traditional- contemporary fusion decor. We opted for the 3 course Sunday lunch but wished we hadn’t. The starters came up and to be frank were plain and pointless, prawn and crayfish cocktail was just a few prawns on old lettuce and the pate looked like it had just been sourced from a supermarket packet. And served on a plate, no butter for bread and awful presentation. Disappointed we kept fingers crossed for the roasts. The dissapointment however continued when we were advised that the Yorkshire puddings had run out and replaced by supermarket ready cooked ones.The beef however was flavoursome, tender and thick and the gravy was lovely, possibly as good as I have tasted anywhere. Measly potatoes and one carrot and one parsnip as veg! Come on carrots are 50p a packet or less! What there was however tasted lovely Cauliflower cheese was fab.Such a shame as felt there were some awesome highlight but let down by silly,easy to get right mistakes.I so want to recommend it to others but it just falls short in a few ways. Meagre vegetable albeit lovely, awful lacklustre staters and we opted out of desserts but they didn’t look like the pictures on their website. May go back but only for the roast beef and will order extra potatoes and veg!

Looks fancy but the service was just alright and they got my order wrong; I had a bad stomach so i coudnt have any fizz but they gave me appeltizer. Our tabel was cramped so it was a struggle to get in the chair which also didnt help and the tabel had a weird smell for a while. An adults sardine plate is miniscule the water glasses are made for mice because of their size and you have to keep refilling them every sip.

An unexpected gem at the end of a long sea front walk. Dropped in for a pint before getting the train and when I saw the food being served ……..I ended up with one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had , great desserts and the staff are excellent . We even had a live guitarist who was great . It’s worth getting the train from London .

We went to the Shoe for the first time today. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced too. Very nice and warm staff. We booked a table for 1 pm it was reasonably quiet but by the time we left it was packed, highly recommended a visit, but you had better book

The Shoe is a fantastic spot, brilliant cosy atmosphere and I can highly recommend the pie and pint night. Fantastic value and the sausage and onion pie has such a tasty rich sauce! Table booked for next week already 👌

I don't know if the shoe has changed hands but me and my husband went for a Sunday roast for our anniversary as in the past been very happy. Although roast was lovely desert was not to the usual standard. Service was below average . Wait time was unacceptable .

We booked a special family meal for Sunday roast in the beautiful private room. The staff were so accommodating and met our needs going over and above with the service and checking in we had what we needed. We had a range of roast dinner to fish dishes and all were lovely and great value for money. Would highly recommend.

This place used to have a fantastic bistro style menu and really high quality food. It now serves 'pub grub'. The food is 'ok'. But it was once excellent. They've ripped the wall out that used to separate the bar from the restaurant which has ruined the feel of the restaurant. such a shame as, this place really was very good. I wouldn't rush back now.

This was just a drink stop after a long walk in the hot September sun. Service was friendly in the cool, clean and pleasant pub, seating outside was plentiful but not pretty... functional and okay nonetheless. It's only a short walk from the seaside hub and on an arc to the railway station (so great for a stop post-beach/pre-train). Until I call by again, thanks.

Hadn't booked but were given table in the bar. Told there was only Pork left for Sunday lunch, but what incredible Pork! Beautiful presentation of amazing ingredients. Looking for somewhere for a light lunch after a lovely seaside walk, just came across this olde world looking pub. The beauty of it is that it is just that a typical “boozer”, nothing over elaborate, but with character. The lunch menu was varied, either full portions or a smaller set two or three courses. We had a smaller two course and it was delightful. The calves liver was to die for, and the ladies thoroughly enjoyed the Vegetarian lasagne. Very good value, and no rip off prices. To top it all, nice people.

Two of us had whitebait to start £7 for 8 fish and they were cold. On the wine list they had run out of the Malbec and Rioja. We had to wait ages for our food. The main course came out and were barely warm with cold plates. The bill came hand written not itemised just Food £…. Drinks £…. The staff were nice and that’s what the 2 stars are for! It has been refurbished with a new menu but I’m not sure if we will ever go back.

The food was inferior, and the service matched. My wife and daughter found little that appealed on the menu and had burgers, hard to get wrong, but they did at £14 a go. The reviews are suspect; it was lousy.

The “hotel” is a listed building, therefore the facade cannot be changed. Also, it is not an hotel any more.However, inside is a nice bar and a wonderful restaurant.We were here for lunch and welcomed by a couple of friendly staff, Andy and a lady whose name I didn’t catch, but was very chatty.From Monday to Thursday they offer a set menu of 2 or 3 courses. Unfortunately we were not offered this, which would have saved us some £’s even with having 3 courses.The chef is very clued up regarding gluten free options, which was very pleasing.I ended up having 3 tapas options. 2 of my companions had fish and chips and another a portion of 3 tapas selections. For dessert I had crème brûlée. Companions had cheesecake, brownies and the poached pear.The food was delicious and well presented.With a round of drinks, the bill came to £95.Will certainly return in the near future.

The restaurant serves really delicious food, great cocktails and the service is great! We have been here for Sunday roasts and occasional meals and always have the best time! It has a comfortable eating area and the decor is classically elegant!

My niece wanted a family Sunday lunch with an interesting dessert menu. The Hotel was highly recommended and proved to be exactly as promised. We had a lovely time. Nothing was too much bother - including our unusual dietary requirements. Food was excellent -interesting, perfectly prepared, generous portions, well presented. If you go at a busy time (we did) be prepared to savour the experience in a leisurely fashion - there's really no need to rush. Enjoy!

First visit for me, but I’d heard good things and was looking forward to going. My friend and I both had roast dinners of beef and lamb. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly and the side were generous. The staff were attentive and friendly. My only one gripe is that we only got one slice of meat. When you’re paying £16/£18 I don’t think it’s too much to expect two slices of meat, especially as it’s often the star of the show! This would make me think twice about returning as my husband wouldn’t be pleased with just one slice of meat in his plate. Shame, as otherwise it’s perfect!

We had a great lunch here yesterday with friends. My partner is gluten intolerant and a vegetarian which can prove problematic. The manager was more than helpful and knew his menu inside out and was able to provide off menu. She was even given more than one choice. She got an amazing dish - goats cheese in a stuffed mushroom with a killer salad. Would definitely come back again.

Down in Southend for a long weekend decided to look for Sunday lunch, our B&B owners suggested the “Shoe” as other guests had used this pub. We managed to get a late booking, but thought it must be good as it’s very popular. We arrived 20 minutes early but the staff said that’s not a problem we have a table ready. We ordered the beef and lamb. We waited 45 minutes before it arrived , the meal was cold but looked stunning. I soldiered on with my lamb but my husbands beef was very fatty and enjoyed fighting with the knife. If you like peas as a veg option your in luck as there were lots an lots of peas a couple of snap peas and 2 courgettes. The waiter did apologise for the lateness of the meal but didn’t say why?? I couldn’t fault the restaurant as it was decorated well and seating and tables were great but it was open to the bar and was very loud, but he place is very busy and has a lot of locals so if it’s an intimate meal your after I don’t think this is the place. Average

I visited the Shoeburyness Hotel this evening with a friend. What a gem! We were given a warm welcome when we arrived. The food was absolutely amazing! 10/10! Definitely will be returning again with my hubbie.

I reviewed this place in June and was looking forward to coming back and thank goodness I made the effort. I had an absolutely lovely roast, the food was excellent the service was excellent and all in all I’m putting this as my top place to eat. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere nobody was rushed but everything arrived when it should, lovely linen tablecloths, comfortable seats the Shoeburyness Hotel ticked every box highly recommend it.

We can never fault the food when we eat here - last weeks’ lunch was no exception. I had a monkfish kebab wrapped in bacon with a green salsa topping and mixed salad from the specials board - the monkfish was cooked perfectly - I hate when restaurants leave the thin sinew on monkfish and I always order with trepidation- no worries here - delicious and huge chunks of fish - really good value for £9.95. My wife had a beautifully presented goats cheese salad which was delicious. More dishes like the monkfish skewer would be great!

My wife and I had been visiting Shoeburyness East beach and were hoping to visit the nearby tea rooms, but they were closed. A short walk presented us with the Shoebury Hotel which looked promising. So we sat outside in the early August sun and ordered, in our case choosing tapas. A very polite young man came to take our drink and food order and efficiently dealt with our every need. Service was nigh on perfect.They have an extensive drinks menu and a comprehensive food menu. Our ciders were delivered quickly, nice and cool to drink in the sun. The food a few minutes later. All the food was good, some excellent - I will single out the gambas al ajillo as being particularly lovely. I went inside to pay up and noticed that the decor inside was lovely too. We went on our way for a walk around the old barracks and on the way back decided to pop into the Shoeburyness Hotel again for a dessert. This time we ate inside, and there was a pleasant atmosphere without overcrowding. We noticed that the following evening there was a drag show and inquired as to whether tickets were available. We were told it was their first such event and it sold out within 12 hours of being announced - a disappointment for us but great news for the pub. All in all this gastropub does everything well. Definitely recommended. If we lived in the area we'd be regulars.

Had my daughters 18th in here back in June there were 13 of us well what could I say but it was fantastic food 5 star venue 5 star our waitress fantastic. Made a very special day perfect so thank you.So here is todays review just had a fantastic lunch here its the restaurant that keeps giving ok it was quiet but the food the service the waitress and waiter were excellent this is a true hidden gem in shoebury. So if your looking for great food great service a warm welcome look no further than the shoebury Hotel. Thank you and see you very soon.

We stumbled by pure coincidence over the Shoeburyness Hotel after a stroll on the seaside. We were looking for a nice place to have lunch and weren’t disappointed! The decor of the place is luxurious without being pretentious. The staff is very warm and welcoming and it was easy to relax with a young child and dog in tow. The food is excellent and the presentation lovely. Hubby had chicken burger and said the seasoning was great. I had the goats cheese salad and the cheese was nice with a delicate flavour. If I had to criticise one thing it’s that the kids tomatier linguine were maybe a tad under seasoned, but I rather have it this way than the other way round. The summer berries cheesecake was exceptional and my husband , who’s a cheesecake snob, really liked it. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, and Stéphane can be proud of this gem!

This was the second time of visiting, the first wasn’t great but thought it was worth a second try. Both times something had run out off the the menu so couldn’t have first choice. Most of the food was okay. The chicken skewer was very over cooked and chewy and the cheesecake had a very strange texture, I would say it had been frozen then defrosted too quickly but the sponge pudding was lovely. Service was friendly but slow until half way when another lady started working, she was very helpful and friendly. I would say it was very average, if it was my local I would maybe come again but it’s not so …

Came here for Father's Day lunch. All 3 courses from the set menu were great. The beef from the Sunday dinner was cooked to perfection and the deserts were Instagram worthy and tasted as well as they looked.I'd like to say a special thanks to the waiting staff who were wonderful, friendly and very patient with my children.Will definitely return as my mouth is already watering at the thought of another Sunday lunch.Thank you for making it a lovely day.

What a find, quite by accident I found myself having an unplanned lunch, I’m delighted to have found the Shoeburyness Hotel and will absolutely booking to return and try the grown up menu, because it looked delicious, I had a casual lunch which was lovely. Our first adventure after all the lockdowns and bumped into the Shoeburyness Hotel right after leaving the station. Although they were fully booked, they managed to fit us in for a much-needed drink. Their hospitality and kindness was outstanding, just what you need and wish for at the moment.Under new management for about a year and the new owners are lovely and look after each and every one of the guests. The new menu looks amazing, we had a sneaky peak at the dishes delivered to other tables. The interior is beautiful and quirky, everthing is clean and well-maintained. Wholeheartedly recommend the place.

First time coming this evening really easy to book! Food was served hot and delicious and come out within a reasonable time 😋 staff where kind and friendly even lended a blanket for my daughter, really happy and enjoyed myself!!

First visit today, 6.12.20. Nice exterior and cosy interior tastefully decorated with a nice festive tree. COVID guidelines being followed with all staff in masks and decent separation. Should have been our rearranged wedding day today so wanted a decent meal from an independent restaurant and were not disappointed. Kids had warm bread for starters I had the Shoe Prawn cocktail and Gemma had mussels. Girls woofed down the bread and whilst my prawn cocktail was tasty and fresh it was a tad small and I regretted not going for the mussels as they were delecious. Mains were chicken goujons and fries for the girls, rolled pork belly for Gemma and fish and chips for me. Could not fault any of the food. Twins kids meal was fresh and batter nice and lights. My fish and chips were the same, fresh and light batter with tasty, meaty fish. Decent beer and wine choice, girls finished off with a scoop of Rossis ice cream, Gemma had the Toblerone Cheesecake. All ok all a lovely meal and will be returning again. Highly recommend.

I stumbled across this place whilst trying to find somewhere last minute for a Sunday roast, my mum has just moved into Thorpe bay so thought we would try here....well the restaurant itself is very warm and welcoming and the tables are fully set with lovely linens and glasses you can tell no expensive has been spared, anyway the food was amazing both aesthetically and taste and they even give you cauliflower cheese as part of the dish, everything was cooked perfectly and plenty of it and I have a BIG appetite! well done II cant wait to return!

Was lucky to get booked in on Saturday as this place is always fully booked most days, and what a lovely day it was, I've eaten here a couple of times before and it gets better each time, Stefano the owner oversees and welcomes every customer like royalty, what a fantastic place. We had a lovely meal which was delivered to our table by fantastic staff who must have been trained by Stefano, as the standard is that high. This restaurant set's the bar very high and is well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Well worth a visit infact we have booked again for the end of the month.

I came here with my partner for a quick drink, we ended up working down the cocktail list and eating all the tapas! The Espresso martini was delicious - as were all the others!The tapas was absolutely gorgeous too! Honestly couldnt rate this place highly enough - a little gem! We have even booked for Boxing Day!
