Shobha's in Birmingham

I ordered south Indian combo, Dhokla and Pani Puri. Quality is not that good but for taste 4/10. And thier was no ventilation. There was some smell of food in the restaurant it was very bad.

I ordered Masala Dosa and it was very tasty and fresh. Price is also very reasonable. I would like to visit this place again.

Amazing food! It’s a pure vegetarian restaurant. Service is good, stuffed pepper pakora, choke kulcha and veg thali is a must try. We also ordered samosa chat and it was very good. Highly recommend eating at this restaurant.

Don't expect anything as in picture. I ordered papdi chat, good number of papdi with chilli sauce and curd and 7 to 8 chana to be precise. No way it was near to papdi chat. My 1st and last time at Shobhas.

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now, but I never found the time until today. Shobhas in Star City is truly my go-to place for everything on their menu, from their delicious street food to their diverse drink selection. However, during my most recent visit, I tried their falooda, which was served to me in this cup with a rather amusing straw. Unfortunately, I struggled to drink it because the noodles and basil seeds kept getting stuck. After finishing all the drink, I was left with just the main ingredients. The essence of falooda is to enjoy everything together, but the straw they provided was definitely not suited for thicker drinks. It took me quite a while to finish, and I eventually ended up taking it home and using a spoon! Overall, it was enjoyable, but they should definitely consider the type of straws they use.

I love this place! This review is a bit late as I went a few weeks ago now but the food is amazing and many dishes taste unique (despite being variations on common dishes you can get elsewhere in the UK), and is not too oily. Lovely, friendly people as well, who were incredible help in catering for my brother’s allergies. Highly recommend the Thali, Channa Bhattura, Chilli Paneer and others. The pickle and yoghurt served with some of the dishes is awesome and different to most other places, which is really just the icing on the cake

I ordered Paneer Dosa, Pav Bhaji, Paneer Spring Rolls, and Samosa Chaat, and I have to say, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Every single item was a complete disappointment. The Paneer Dosa was bland and soggy, the Pav Bhaji tasted stale and lacked any real flavor, the Paneer Spring Rolls were greasy and had an off-putting taste, and the Samosa Chaat was a soggy mess with absolutely no balance of flavors. It felt like a total waste of money, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you're thinking of ordering from here, save your money and look elsewhere. This was a truly regrettable experience.

Extremely poor quality and ridiculously overpriced tea, tasted absolutely disgusting and a rip off. In no way can this be called masala chai! disgraceful.

HORRIBLE! Pink tea and other hot drinks sold here are not prepared freshly, instead the instant hot water machines, sachets, and powder milk sachets are used. Hygiene was not great. The prices are unreasonable, too. Poor customer service. Not recommended!

We explored Star City in Birmingham and had the opportunity to savor the Indian Thali at Shobha's Restaurant. Honestly, it instantly reminded me of the authentic flavors of India. The thali was incredibly delicious, and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was attentive and courteous. I highly recommend it to fellow Indians longing for homemade flavors; it's definitely worth a try.

The food is expensive. The environment was ok. But the tables were not very clean.

Auntie Shobha is so welcoming the food is top notch and the prices are very reasonable

Went here today, plenty of choice. Woman on till helpful, a bit pricey for the items. The only thing my family didn't like was a young chap eating behind the counter. If that's normal, then I wouldn't bother coming here. We noticed the young chap was eating and working in between the kitchen and front counter. We are not sure if he's not allowed a break due to short staff or if he is just taking advantage of management.

Absolutely beautiful food, Shoba is so lovely, caters for vegans too!

I visited the restaurant twice. The first time, I ordered Thali, but the dal was rotten and had a bad smell. They replaced it with another dal, which was good. Today, I ordered idli sambar, and while the idli was okay, the sambar was like colored water. The staff is friendly and cooperative, but the food quality needs improvement. Overall, I don't recommend it due to the taste and quality.

We order dosa and chili paneer but both was tasteless looks old and smelly.

The food is very tasty and the service was very good. Love this place.. will visit again soon ! The only point which needs improvement is to provide high chair for toddlers. We struggled with our kids and had to take turns to finish our food.

The staff are very lovely, accommodating people and their samosas with the tamarind chutney were delicious. :)

Went today ordered bhature chole and papri chaat taste was awful in papri chat they served golgappe topped with chutneys and red pepper added photos would not recommend to anyone to go there if someone wants to waste there money they are most welcome to go .

The food quality is just not good. First we ordered pani puri and was not good so changed it to The papdi chaat which was absolutely not tasty and waste of money.

The oil used to fry must be really old, the food is not worth parting your cash. The menu needs changing and needs spicing up.

We stopped at Birmingham’s Star City on the way to Manchester and really enjoyed Shobha’s Indian Thali. The food was delicious and the service was great

Food is terrible. We had chaat and pani puri. Chaat is nothing like chatt. It was boiled potato in boiled chickpeas with dahi. Really terrible.

Good standards have really dropped in this restaurant. We’ve eaten in a few times as well as take away. The standard to cleanliness is appalling especially on the tables and seating area. We had a takeaway today and the food felt very stale, a weird smell from the chutneys used and the spring rolls had a gooey non- fresh taste. I don’t think I’ll be going there again, we really struggle for pure vegetarian places to eat in Bham. This is yet another strike off the list.

Very bad experience with South Indian platter. Coconut chutney was smelly, idly was not cooked well, Vada was awful, sambar was just like a coloured water. My request for fellow Indians to STAY AWAY

The food here was amazing, came here with some friends. I had choley bhuturay and sev puri which was great. The faluda is outstanding too and the staff made us feel very welcome. They are very accommodating and friendly.

Really didn’t have to elaborate so just wrote a simple review . Day before yesterday we had lunch in your restaurant.. ordered 2 paneer dosa, 1 chana Masala, 1 fuchka plate, and 1 faluda. Attaching pics for your ready reference . We have no complaints regarding the staffs working and serving but the food is really not upto the mark..paneer filling in dosa are just tasteless. Coconut chutney has some weird smell.. only sambar is some how palatable. Faluda was okeyish. One request to the Management of Sobhas , please try to take criticism as well because it’s gonna help you in return.

Bought masala tea and Samosa chaat. Masala tea was just too much water and got hair from samosa chaat. Very bad customer service from the lady.

We ordered samosa chat and south Indian platter. Samosa chat was simply lip smacking delicious 😋 and the south Indian platter was good too, just that the idli could have been better.

Well you can get a good atmosphere and vibe because it’s in star city and next to VUE but I was looking for the Indian food taste and it was totally missing , Bhel and sev Puri and dahi puri almost all taste same 🫣 just little minor difference

Ordered paneer dosa, just scrambled paneer with salt no masala, coconut chutney was the worst Papdi chat papdi was not crispy at all, had no potatoes or chickpea, just some papdi with some sauce on it Would never go back

I highly advise against ordering from them due to my unfortunate experience with their spoiled food, which could pose serious health risks. I personally encountered deceased insects in the food I received, and when I brought this to their attention, they dismissively refused to address the issue and responded inappropriately. Thanks.

Awful!! Stale taste my friend complained that her dish had an off smell. Owner became aggressive then another customer sat next to us saying food wasn’t great we agreed. Suddenly owner came over with 2 security saying leave. I was so disgusted will never return. The place was empty I wonder why!!!!!

After a good film I went to shobha’s for food and we ordered Pani puri & Papdi chaat it wasn’t that great.. very disappointed

Vwe ordered a vada pav, its just boiled n mashed potato in burger bun. No flavour what so ever and closing time was 11 N we went in by 10.30 n we were not allowed to dine in and driven away with take out. Food was really bad . I really hope they taste actual Indian food.

We can’t fault this place for what it is as we believe it is a great spot for authentic Indian snacks on the go and sometimes fulfilling for cravings. Full of flavour and the feel of a street based food unit, great spot in star city. It’s definitely worth a try when you have an interval in a Bollywood movie and you need to grab a juicy snack. Perfect location.

My recent return visit to Shoba's was a bit underwhelming. Despite being a weekday at 1pm, the Star City complex seemed deserted, and my partner and I were the only customers in Shoba's for the first 30 minutes. The sole staff member behind the counter -- who took our order, served our food, and tended to our every need -- was clearly overworked and understaffed. We did notice a male staffer sitting at the far end of the restaurant. However, he remained glued to his phone, offering nothing more than an occasional disapproving glance in our direction. He made no attempt to lend a hand to his colleague, even as more customers began to pour in. The general state of the restaurant was in dire need of improvement. The walls were marked with food stains, the seats were worn out, and the windows were filthy. Despite all of this, we were happy to award Shoba's some well-deserved stars, for the delicious food prepared by the lady who was running the entire operation by herself. Her brilliant service and cooking skills were the highlights of our visit.

Reasonable prices but mixed reviews on the food. The dosa was nice but the paneer inside it was super salty and didn't have a proper masala and the coconut chutney was off.The sambar was nice. The yoghurt in the paapdi chat again was slightly off.But portion size was good.Vegetarian thaali was nice but the rice portion size was really small.

Normally, their food is good, but today, all food was bland, completely bland, whereas I specifically requested spicy food. Nothing tasted right or yummy at all. I am very disappointed, have spent £50 and now have to cook for us. Please don't bother ordering if u like proper nice and authentic food.

Really lovely food - nothing negative at all. Nice presentation and good size portions too - there was enough for two and all for £15. It was a few minutes late but that was no biggy as it was trackable all the way anyway, so there was no hanging about by the window 😉 I will definitely be ordering again.

The worst food. On name of paddi chaat you will get only paddi and some sauces on it. Thats they paddi chaat. Not recommend

Bhel puri was so bland with just sev mamra and water chutney. Same again with pani puri with just minty water. Order 5 different dish and were serve cold and no real taste. Charged stupid amount of money as well. Just Avoid!!!!

Possibly the worst Indian food I have ever tasted Ordered masala dosa… accompanying sambar could be equated to coloured water… the dosa itself tasteless Nd cold.. ordered vada pau.. hailing from Bombay myself expectation was not that high since I have never had a decent vada pau here however shobhas version was as bad as it gets… to begin with it arrived in a burger bun instead of an actual pau(roll) the rest of the food was just as bad and worse was when they tried to substitute my kids jacket potato meal with chips I knew we had to walk out Please don’t waste your money terrible food

Nice place to enjoy some chaat, pav bhaji. We enjoyed it and the price seemed reasonable. Enjoyed the kulfi stick as well. Will come back again.

Went there 10:15 pm and they said only drinks available. I’ve drive 40 minutes to come here . Very disappointed. Not recommended
