The food is awful. We ordered poori masala and masala dosai both had bad masala which has gone off. The person who we told didn't agree that it and we asked him to smell the bad odour and agreed. This is not the first time this happening and no response to correct it from the management. Never again to this place which is a disaster or more to happen.

Wandering around on Haley Road, I came across MrIdly. There was no one when I walked in the evening and I was a bit nervous. However the interior was clean and there was a person at the till. I thought to myself let me give it a go. Menu was neat with no smudges. That was a good start. The lady at the till came over and recommended dishes to me after asking a few basic questions about my taste. I was getting impressed. I settled on a plate of 2 idlies and vada and a masala dosa. A few minutes later, she comes back and says - kitchen thinks the idli's will not be good due to fermentation issues can i swap for mini idli's. I said ok. Idlies come along, nice and fluffy dipped in steaming sambhar. Great on the palate and satisfying to the soul. Masala Dosa, nice and crisp. I could have done with less filling. The size of dosa was generous and sow as the quantity of filling. My good impressions turned to great impressions. Not wanting to go for any standard off the shelf drink i opted for rose milk. On second thoughts maybe coffee would have been better. While i was there I saw several people come in and collect order including an ubereat man. I shall be going back again to try more.

Pathetic place. I would never recommended this place to anyone. Terrible food. Extremely priced and very less portions. Poor ambience. No baby changing facilities. Only one waitress for whole restaurant. Had to wait for a long time. Worst place ever to eat.

I've been tried Paneer Butter Masala a lot of times at Mr Idly and I adore this, however today I got disappointed. I was waiting for the same creamy and smooth gravy, heavenly delicious but I've got absolutely different taste. Maybe you've changed your recipe or Chef since my last time...but You should definitely put back previous taste. Thanks, will back to check :)

Waited for 45 mins in an empty restaurant for the food to arrive. Only 2 dishes came and then waited for another half an hour for the rest. They are more interested in delivery orders than seated customers.

We have been here a few times now and the breakfast buffet has always been very good. the price at £5.99 is very good for the variety of food you get. The breakfast includes, plain dosa, masala dosa, puri with potato, upmav, idly, lovely fresh crispy vadas sambar, various chutneys and sheera to finish off with. I would definitely recommend it!

Quite reasonably priced authentic south Indian food. But unwelcoming staff, they don't bother to smile. But food is excellent and very tasty. Hope they will improve quality of their hospitality.

Along with my wife, I went for lunch yesterday and took lunch buffet. Pros: Rice, pappad, sweet, vathakuzambu (though with excess oil). Very quiet. Rather no other customers Cons: No variety, Something strange with Dhal. So-called roti was worst. 2 per plate. I ordered only two (instead of four) and was finding very poor like a dried rubber. I was convincing my wife that this is best lunch buffet in Birmingham and took her only to feel disappointed. Please be mindful they accept only cash! What a waste of money. I want to do one more try during breakfast buffet to see if the tiffins are good and to finally decide whether to abandon this restaurant for good.

I contacted Mr Idly as my team and I wanted to celebrate Christmas in a way that didn’t involve a buffet! Contact was made via the online form and I received a quick response from Vijay. He was very helpful and professional throughout the whole process from ordering the food right through to collection. We ordered a variety of food and EVERYONE commented how lovely it was and how much they enjoyed it!! We all thoroughly enjoyed the tastes and I can’t recommend the food enough. Vijay recommended a chilli paneer for my vegetarian colleague and in his opinion it didn’t disappoint. I ordered chicken biryani having never eaten it before and I can honestly say it was delicious. The price was extremely reasonable and I know that as a team we will certainly be ordering food again from Mr Idly. Well done Vijay and team, keep up the excellent quality and flavour.

A place to be avoided! Unless you like a colonic lavage the day after a visit to the restaurant. Stopped for a quick lunch...had a rava chicken masala dosa. Tasted fine. I am used to spicy food Was woken up in the early hours of the next day morning with an urgency to reach for the toilet. Had to make quite a few visit after that too!

Drove here expecting to visit Chennai Dossa. We hadn't realised that this had closed down and been replaced by Mr Idli. Quickly checked reviews on Trip Advisor and as they were generally positive we thought we would give Mr Idli a try. The welcome and service was good. There wasn't the same rush of people as there had been the last time we visited (when it was Chennai Dossa) when he had to queue in the cold waiting for a table. We were seated straight away although it was a Saturday night - it was about half full. We ordered a chilli idli and a plate of vadas for starters. The chili idli was ok - we found it too hot but this was to be expected given the name! The vadas were exceptionally good. You can order 1 that comes with sambar or a plate of 2 that comes with a coconut chutney. They were so tasty that we had to order another plate. They were well seasoned and fried to perfection - crispy on the outside but also well cooked on the inside. Would highly recommend these! One of my relatives said next time they would simply order a few plates of these for their dinner! For mains we had a few masala dossas, one crispy paper dossa, one aloo puri and one matter paneer. The puri was tasty and well fried in fresh tasting oil and the potato that came with it was as per the potato in the dossas whicn was fine. The chutneys that came with all the dossas were of a good variety and fresh tasting. One of the chutneys contained fresh mint which was something I haven't tried with a dossa before and was rather moorish. The star of the mains was the paper dossa as it stayed crispy (unlike the masala dosa that inevitably loses crispness due to the filling) and went perfectly with either the potato curry or the matter paneer. It was huge and so two of us shared it. We ordered a jug of sweet lassi which was delicious - a good sweetness level and appropriate thickness. One of my guests had a malai kulfi for dessert which they said was fine. The service was good throughout. One of the lovely waitreesses informed us that the meat is halal and that the supplier is the same as the one who supplies the popular Persian restaursnt next door to Mr Idli. (The menu at Mr Idli does also have a halal symbol on it). My guests and I however had chosen to eat vegetarian on this occasion. The only negative point I have about this restaurant is that it can be cold inside. We noticed this both when it was under Chennai Dossa and now too. I would recommend sitting as far as possible from the front door. This however would definitely not stop me from returning - I would probably just wear a few extra layers. The place seemed family friendly and had a homely feel to it. Would definitely recommend as we had a most enjoyable time!

My friends chose to try this restaurant out has its new to this area and we like to check new ones out for ourselves and family.Because this restaurant does not do alcohol you are allowed to bring your own in.We were greeted at the door with a smile and taken to our table.we loved the relaxed atmosphere and the beautiful flowing blossom down the middle of the restaurant with matching lilies all the way round the room, this made for a relaxed evening. The waiter took our order for poppadoms and later our order for starters, mains, rice and nan. They came and checked on us to make sure everything was OK and that we didn't need anything more.Food was delicious from start to finish.Desserts were offered which some of us had and then coffees with mint choclate.A lovely evening and was seen out by staff also with a pleasant smile 😃. I also noticed that they did do mock cocktails 🍸 and none alcohol wines or grape drinks which is great to know when you either don't drink or can't because your driving. I will definitely be back again.Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful evening.
