Shish Mahal in Waltham Forest

Worst place I have ever been in my life please don’t visit, waiting time is around 30 - 45 mins. The food menu is also not clear, food has more oil to it than taste and the staff were decent but not proactive. My review : -3/5

Had a few takeaways from this place, which were excellent, so decided to visit the restaurant on my daughter's birthday. Everyone was most impressed by the food. Both the Tandoori and the curries were cooked to perfection. The service was attentive but unintrusive. My family and I will be going here again.

Booked a table on NYE we were not told it was a set menu or price over the phone but told as we sat down - £39.99 each for 4 items plus a glass of Prosecco. Plus some poor singing . We were a bit upset as this is a lot more than menu price but too late too change plans . Ordered food - 2 of the group didn’t like the drink - starter each , main and side - no 4th rice or bread offered so assumed it would just be given . Food delivered no rice or bread so basically paid £39.99 for about £15.00 worth of food . Only 1 other table as stated by staff everyone else cancelled - not surprised. Not sure if changed owners but really gone down hill- takeaway 2 weeks ago also bad - waited almost 2 hours , several calls and cold food when delivered . Really sad but won’t use again after 20 years loyalty as a customer x

Everything was succulent cooked to perfection. Timing between started and main course spot on. Ultra friendly service. Highly recommend

Visited the restaurant on recommendation of a friend. I cant thank enough the staff for their service and attentiveness . The staff were welcoming and also helped us to choose the food menu according to our taste. We ordered few curries and non veg starters .They were fresh and delicious . We would definitely visit again.

We had an annual reading group Christmas meal. Only 9 of us thus year - two cry-offs bec of Covid. As always, food arrived on time and was delicious. For first time we tried a special - the Napoleon Balti - and it was well worth it. We recommend the Shish Mahal.

The chicken Jalfrezi not even enough sauce inside box .This issue has been highlighted and last time it was okay but something has gone wrong again ! The dhaka Dhal container is less than half full .This is not right .Normally it has been full to the top for regular portion .This portion is very low . I ordered the food on Tuesday due to the discount ,but actually need the food for Wednesday which I am.saving .However ,I left the food out waiting for it to cool .down and as I took the food containers out if the bag ,I noticed how the level of sauce in the chicken was low ,and the lentils is less than half full .I called the restaurant just before midnight, but it was closed .So I sent a text to the delivery man from the restaurant to let him know that I need to speak to the manager . Thank you .Ms Razzaq .

This local restaurant has been a regular for us for quite a few years now. Food is always delicious and staff are friendly and attentive. We pass other more local Indian restaurants to come to the Shish Mahal because we prefer the food and atmosphere here. Always a great experience!

Honestly the best Indian food I’ve had in a while. It was very delicious and flavourful especially the paneer and biriyani..Music was great! The service was absolutely fantastic. Overall I had such a wonderful time, it was a blast. Definitely recommend everyone to go!!

I was pleasantly surprised the food was good although I felt the meat portions could be slightly more. The staff were extremely helpful regarding my nut and mushroom allergy. Overall this is good value and would use again and recommend.

We really enjoyed our meal here one Friday night. The food is traditional British Indian if you get what I mean. Portions are about right, sauces are not too sloppy and are nicely spiced. No rogue vegetables such as sweetcorn. Plenty of lentils in the lentil dish. Very nice chana masala. Lighting is a bit harsh (LED?) but otherwise it’s a nice atmosphere and the staff are certainly friendly without being over attentive. Highly recommended

Ive been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and decide to pop in there last night, but after seeing how much the meals and side dishes have gone up in price £12 for a normal curry with out rice, i wont be attending the place again. The food is generally good, but can be very hit and miss depends on the chef you get it seems as I’ve had fantastic curries and equally very poor curries from here. The guys who run the place are very friendly and are lovely guys. But it was the final nail in the coffin with a £4 price hike on a curry without rice and £2 price hike on a side dish. Although if you order online you get a curry for £10 rather than £12 and 10% discount

I've been coming on and off for decades. Initially I was a bit apprehensive given the refurb but, if anything, the food was better than ever and the service was really great, offering to make a dish less spicy for my young son. Really excellent fresh ingredients, well cooked and not oily.

We went to dine in this restaurant yesterday at about 18.00. We ordered starters first it was not at all tasty. Then waiter suggested paneer chilli will be good, we tried it just had onions and 3 pieces paneer. We were just having our starters the waiter came to our table and said you'll want to order main course? I told him will order after sometime. He went back and came again and started arguing and said you should give order. you'll can sit one hour only. He and one more waitress was there both started using harsh words they were very rude. They spoilt my dinner date 😡. My first time in this restaurant was very bad. The worst staff, worst experience in my life. Waiter was old in age..... doesn't have professional skills as a waiter ethically and even morally. He is not fit to work in an hospitality industry with such a bad attitude and behaviour towards guests, he should be fired from his job immediately.

Been coming here for years, delicious food. The menu has recently changed. Food piping hot and great service as ever. An asset to the local community.

It is my local Indian restaurant and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. It's just what I like.

We had delicious vegan and vegetarian thalis and were pleasantly surprised by how competitively priced the menu is. Although they have a bar, you can also take your own booze to give you choice, and they don't charge corkage. Would definitely recommend Shish Mahal and we'll certainly be going back.

First visit recently having lived nearby but somehow overlooked it and it didn't disappoint. Food (I had a thali) was top quality and the service and decor was spot on too. You can now bring your own booze (no corkage) although there's also a bar.

I love this place. They've been around for decades and it shows. Every dish we've had has been excellent. And they treat us like royalty when we go 😀 If you're after a great traditional curry then go no further.

I have just found my favourite Indian Restaurant! Everything we had was delicious! I have found some places to be quite bland recently... but the dishes at Shish Mahal are so flavoursome and meat is cooked to perfection. Very attentive staff with a nice chilled atmosphere. Can't wait to get back!

Very good curry, great service too

Food up toe standard though the meat was of lower quality than usual. Delivered within time frame although it took longer than usual - this could of course be an effect of Ramadan, which was expected.

The place we always order from for Indian Food after it was highly recommended by a friend who lived near by. And since then it has been our go to too!

Went to this place, ordered beef curry with rice, they didn’t have enough beef curry and they gave me beef curry mixed with chicken curry there was so much water from the food a lot of oil wasn’t also to mention not cooked right and there was less rice and less meat. Very unhygienic and wouldn’t recommend my last meal this was my second, the tandoori fish was soggy like microwaving a Birdseye frozen fish onion bajhee tasted old and not fresh. Would not recommend

I was very unhappy with my order today. The food was not fresh, portions extremely small - my spinach with cheeses had 4 pieces of cheese and a little bit of spinach / not even half of the plastic container. The same with the chicken korma/ 4 pieces of chicken in a tasteless runny sauce for £11!!! Joke!!! Not sure what happened at the restaurant today. Will not be ordering again

Although delivery was on time but the briyano did not love up tp its true classical desi standard. It was kind of dissapointing to be honest. They really need to improve it & make it more tasty. Wings were grilled but they were so so. There was no punch in the flavor.

I am sick and thought I should order some food for dinner. This place accepted my delivery took my money but the food never came. Tried contacting them they did not pick up, furthermore they did not even try to get in touch to tell me there was some issue with my order. Morale of the story is don't order from this place. Absolutely the worst service I have ever received. Will make sure to share this with my friends and family so they don't order from here. Never again!

Used Shish Mahal, for a quite a few years, but before the pandemic staff member was moaning about survival. Gob smacked by their survival when the pandemic ended used them again, food sometimes late but was always forgiven for such great food. Ordered November 22 usual order, but curry used to consist of green peppers, now replaced with green chillies, ordered garlic naan got plain and considering I was a loyal customer, I will never be ordering from there again. Well done Shish Mahal, you just sent my money elsewhere.

We went here for a meal. We must have been the first customers of the day! As soon as we walked in the door the staff turned the lights on and started the music. They were perfectly pleasant and attentive. The food was ok. They use chicken thigh meat, which for me I'm not so keen on. But the sauce was good. About halfway through our meal, the gentleman had some take away customers come in, he must have known them quite well, as they were talking about his upset stomach and the tablets he was taking for them! this put me off my food. I don't think he should have been working in a restaurant environment, and as a customer eating curry, didn't really need to hear about it either!

Thanks to one of my best friends, and her mother I can’t get enough of this place. Not only is the food amazing, but the customer service is impeccable. Something so simple as holding the door open for me made my day today. I’m not sure of the name of the kind man who is usually behind the counter, but he always knows how to make you feel welcome :)

Food was cold, no spices, bland. Curry was full of water. Old rice served for Biryani. Not freshly cooked food. Parathas were so thick and burnt. Freshly cooked papadoms are supposed to be crispy but these were old, soggy and white. When I called to complain they talked over me and said they were too busy to deal with my complaint

I was very happy with my last order with Shish Mahal. I had issues with my food and after phoning they sorted everything out, which involved a gentleman named Miah making a second journey to my flat. Dealing with my issue was done in an apologetic and efficient way and showed outstanding hospitality skills, something that I think is missing from the industry these days. Of course all of this wouldn't mean much if the food wasn't great but it was perfect! All the dishes were spiced exactly as I'd requested, it wasn't oily and the ingredients tasted fresh. As someone who cooks a lot of Indian food and who has eaten them in their homeland I can confidently recommend the restaurant as superb. Thank you for sorting things out, you now have a loyal customer. Qaasim.

Fantastic little Indian restaurant where you can dine in or take away or even pick up your delivery. They make a lovely curry depending on what you like whether it's a korma or a vindaloo. I've been using them for over 15 years.
