Bengal Curry House in Waltham Forest

This has become my go-to curry house in the area. Food reliably top notch and staff welcoming. A real no-nonsense establishment.

Proper old skool curry house. Food was great, I had the sizzling lamb methi, delicious! It came with a really nice pillau rice and I ordered a lovely fluffy keema naan. After beers in various Stow drinking holes it was the perfect finish. Highly recommend

First time ordering from this place. Had high expectations from the reviews but was sadly disappointed with the food. We had a chicken biriyani, chicken korma and chicken tikka. Each dish the chicken was very overcooked and dry, was not edible. Also I had ordered a peshwari naan and got a plain instead. Staff seemed friendly enough and chucked us in some poppadoms but sadly will not be ordering again.

I have been going to this curry house with my family since I was 10! Most children had McDonald’s parties then but all I wanted to do was visit this restaurant. 23 years later and it is still my favourite curry house. I have moved to Essex and drive there to collect the food. The food is beautifully cooked, well priced and the service is amazing.

Best curry house in Walthamstow, and great staff too.

Have tried to give them the benefit when they’ve said that they’ve been busy, BUT order for a fourth time now and every time it has been at least an hour wait literally. This time was close to two hours for a warm meal not even hot. Do not recommend ordering a takeaway as other reviews had had the same problem.

We really enjoyed our meal here. Delicious food in a nice environment, and priced very reasonably. Something of a hidden gem it seems, will be returning, and would recommend!

Please, please eat here, it’s not one to be missed! I’ve been coming here for years and it’s my favourite! I do try other Indian restaurants in and out of London but I always prefer the food here. It’s delicious! Really excellent value for money, nothing is overpriced and the food is always served hot and fresh. You can eat for 2 for around £30 here. Tonight we ordered poppadoms and 4 came with all the yummy chutneys! We got a lamb Dansak (great if you like a bit of a spicy dish!) it was so tasty and the lamb was really tender and not fatty, very good quality. We also got a classic chicken tikka masala which was just so full of flavour and again excellent quality. We usually get one slightly mild curry and one hotter one. We got a peshwari naan, and pilau rices which actually come with the curries!! I also had a wine and we got tap water for the table and our bill was £30! Great location and has a very authentic feel to it. Lovely authentic music and beautiful Indian art painted onto the walls. You can book ahead by calling them, and if you’re like me and like a bit of privacy and romance you can request to sit in one of the 2 booths located at the front of the restaurant. The food hygiene rating for this restaurant is ‘5 - Very Good’ which is the highest rating you can get. Always check the ratings before you eat somewhere :-) Enjoy!

Delicious food i had after long time , best curry house in Walthamstow. Service was amazing, very friendly and price is very resonable. Their sizzling dishes are the best .cant wait to visit again .

I ordered a chicken biriyani and onion bhaji for collection takeaway via their website, 10% off. You can’t select a time to pick up, looks like they do it asap, once the order comes in. The onion bhaji was the worst one I’ve ever had. I think it was frozen and warmed through, very dry and dense. I’d rather get one to microwave from Lidl. The chicken biriyani was not much better, rice was good and had flavour. But the chicken breast was dry, almost like it had been cooked the day before. I’m not ordering here again based on this experience.

Consistently good with nice staff. We have a mix of take away and eating in. Luckily our new arrival was thrilled with the menu too 😊

I been hear a good few times and food is excellent also reasonably priced. The only reason it getting 4stars instead of 5 is because I get almost no 4g in their and they have no WiFi

As described in title. Incredible value and flavours. The lamb and aubergine has a wonderful flavour amongst other items. Come here regularly and felt compelled to write a review.

Popped in with a friend, we were passing and it looked really welcoming. We right too, very friendly, attentive service, warm/ welcoming restaurant with the sift of decor that really needs to be preserved. The food was great. And very reasonably priced too. Will definitely come back.

Very bad. Food was late, cold & very bland. Would never order again after a few bad experiences. Much better options in the area to spend your money...Shri lakshmi, spice box, forest tandoori etc. waaaay better

Very friendly curry house with quality well cooked varied menu. Well priced.worth a visit.

I went here with my family. The minimum order is a starter, main and desert per person which costs £75 per person (not including drinks). The service was incredibly slow and the food was seriously overpriced. For a starter you get three onion bhajis - equating to about £20. If the food was sensational, i’d potentially understand. But its no nicer than a takeaway curry. We didn't drink any alcohol and it came to £450 for 5 people. It was a real shock when the bill came.

Food is very good. But the online booking system, which offers 15% off collection orders while prices are about 14% more expensive, is cheeky. That said, prices haven't changed despite the current economic crisis.

Excellent genuine Bengali restaurant, shame there is no Bengali fish curry on the menu.

This place has been here for , 50 + years from my remembering honestly its like walking back in the vintage traditional restaurant. Especially in St James street alot of businesses has disappeared this one is a piece of history. food is great and customers service is excellent.

Placed an order at 7:15pm, didn't arrive until 9pm....! I could've made a curry myself faster....food is good just sooooooooooo slow!!

We have been using this restaurant since the 80’s. We moved to Cornwall so have missed Farooq and his great staff. Drove up and see friends and couldn’t resist going back there on Friday I was not disappointed it was the same great food and superb staff as it was all those years ago. I would recommend this place to anyone. Great atmosphere, great service and just great food. Brilliant value too.

The Bengal now has a 5 star hygiene rating. Visited recently and the food was good. Service was quick and friendly. Will be coming back.

Been here a few times now, always great food (try the Balti!) and service. Reasonably priced too

So me and my mate decided to go there for dinner. Firstly the door was locked so we had to knock on the window to get the staffs attention. Soon as the door opened me, a rank smell besieged us. The smell ambushed us from all angles, we had no escape. Luckily we found an escape and ran out. Now I know why the door was locked in the first place!

Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Walthamstow! It’s the cutest little spot with a nice food. The service is spotless. The staff truly cares about your experience, extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations. (Milky made me feel welcomed, and gave me an amazing experience last night.)  The food is absolutely lovely – everything was very delicious. Absolutely the best curry house I have been ever. Highly recommend!

We have been going to this restaurant since we first moved to Walthamstow in 1984. The food is always delicious and made from fresh ingredients. Excellent service and the bill always less than one might think.

Incredibly friendly staff (Milky in particular!), curry was tasty and excellent value for money. Many locals have been going to this curry house for years and we can see why, we will definitely be back!

I’ve been going to this restaurant for a long time but I have to admit the new management is really great. The food was super tasty and the service was great, very friendly stuff. They showed very good knowledge about their food and the cooking was great, I definitely recommend it. 😍

I visited this restaurant few days ago and tasted some of their dishes. The food was amazing and their behavior was nice also. Their environment was fully hygienic.

I found the fantastic service with great food quality after coming new management. The food was delicious. Every time I went, I got good service and the environment was very neat & clean.

Edit: as of Feb 2021 this place has a 0 food hygiene rating - avoid if you value your health! Ordered takeaway - poppadoms and sauces, chicken madras, lamb dopiaza, pilau rice, naan bread, brinjal bhaji, bhindi bhaji. Everything was fresh and the meat was tender. Would have been 5 stars but the brinjal bhaji was pretty tasteless and the madras was mild and certainly not hot. They do have a 5 star hygiene rating which is a rarity for a curry house in Walthamstow, that alone is worth something! Also, slightly better value portion-wise than some other restaurants in the area.

Authentic, tasty food at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit. (Be warned. The toilet is a bit small).

Not sure about this restaurant niw move away over 6 years ago upto then I use every week for about 20 years never had a problem just come down from Cumbria surprise to see it was closed down two months ago for rats not sure now if I will use again

Shocking. Just tried to order on just eat, but it wasn't accepting orders. Found out it was closed down because of active rat infestation and poor hygiene. Food is tasty normally but won't going back there again.

Lovely food at a great price. Everything we’ve tried has been delicious and the portions are quite good. I’m a big fan of their parathas, I highly recommend.

Don’t order from this place they will lie to you about delivery times - ordered at 7:30, expected at 8.15 gave up on it at half 10. Lied through their teeth the whole time about the delivery. Give you business to someone else who deserves it

We waited over 2 & a half hours for delivery and was told constantly it would only be 5 mins , was very disappointed and will not be ordering from them again , such a-shame , a bit of honesty wouldn’t go a miss

I'm no expert of Bengal cuisine but I had a very enjoyable dish (an extremely spicy one) which can go two ways. I had no complaints. The service is old school but absolutely on point for a casual night out dining. Look forward to returning.

We have used this restaurant for many years and on Saturday we had our usual take away meal. The food was tasty but the portions were noticeably smaller The Bombay potatoes were basically boiled potatoes with a sauce poured over and the vegetable curry sauce was sauce with onions and there was no sauce with the popadoms We will give it another go in case it was a temporary chef but otherwise we will be going elsewhere.

We had a lovely meal and the service was excellent. They even made my Jalfrezi less hot. Couldn't have asked for more/

Our food just didn't arrive. Ordered through Deliveroo, when it hadn't arrived in over an hour we started calling. Whenever we got through they said it would be with us in 15-20 minutes, but it just didn't come. Completely ruined our evening. Would never use again!

Great little local. Really nice and friendly family own the place, and have done for several decades. Food is delicious, great value, and feels as healthy as a takeaway curry can be - not too oily, etc.

I love this place. Food is consistantly good and service is lovely. Established in 1970s so must be a good sign. It's a little bit of The Stow that's remained a constant since i moved here 17 years ago

Always a great feed out of there. The staff are lovely, very nice atmosphere. Went in and ordered a take away and they sat me down at a table and gave me some papadums while I waited. Wouldn't go anywhere else

Had chicken tikka, daal and naan bread. The Daal was average and watery. The chicken wasnt as juicy as expected. Wasnt bad but I will try somewhere else locally

The worst indian I've ever had! The food had absolutely no flavour whatsoever and was just simply vile! 100% would not recommend!

Absolute clowns. These guys will keep telling you your food is “5 minutes away” for 2 hours. I have been getting food from these guys for about a year but the delivery service has become progressively worse. AVOID these guys.

Not fine dining, more rough and ready. Enjoyed our meal here and service was efficient. The place is very dated and is in need of a spruce up and a good clean, but that's part of its charm. Cosy place for the winter months that transports you out of London. Will definitely be back.

Authentic old style curry house which has been there for a very long time. The food was great the beer was cobra and everything was just what you would expect from a restaurant of this nature. Just don't expect wifi although I forgive them for this (as I also do for the outdated hideous decor) it would maybe ruin the old fashioned feel of the place.

Very friendly service. Can't fault it. We ordered house specials which were flavoursome but the meat was on the dry side. Maybe we chose the wrong dishes.

So... ive been to a few indians in Walthamstow, this is by far the best service and food. Its authentic, real and true. Try this place if youre in doubt and make your own opinion!you wont be disapointed:)
