Pete and the crew never fail to deliver. A true Persian experience with a proven recipe for success. I always get a chicken and lamb mix. The chicken is well seasoned and ample portioned, with equally good helpings of doner. The service is always first class, with the team taking their time to get it right. Easily the best kebab shop in town.

Still number one after all these years. The cleanest and healthiest kebabs in Portsmouth but the menu offers much more than that, so be sure to try some of the other Iranian dishes. Not only is the food better, but the prices have remained steady, while every other place in town seems to have doubled in price. They don't offer delivery and accept cash only, but it's worth the drive and trip to the ATM.

Went there this evening and got a shish a donner mix. Worst kebab I’ve had in years. Massively gone down hill and service also poor.

I've known these guys for over 20 years, and was a very regular customer when I lived across the road. Easily the best kebabs in Portsmouth and possibly the best in Hampshire. I'm 44 and can honestly say I've never tasted better. Originally opened in 1983 and still owned by the same family, so they must be doing something right!

Must be a different owner. The rice, meat it was all no way near as good. The rice was like mashed potato. Meat was dry. Sauce so different

Not sure what meat is being used now but it's extremely greasy with little flavour chicken is OK but much better kebabs to be had in Portsmouth such a shame as it used to be a good kebab spot

Well this place used to be known for great kebabs. Haven't had one for ages but fancied one this evening. Salty is an understatement! I'm sure ull be suffering all night as was sooooo salty. Ordered a large hickey kebab, got a large Pitta and alot of salad but only 6 pieces of chicken so dread to think how many were in the small. Luckily anymore than 6 would have been too much due to the salt content.

Used to be really nice place when `dad` was running it. His son owns the business now, but has started threatening to knock people out at Costa just because they might have `looked at him`. Picking on someone with a mental illness is not good, but I cannot help but feel that the owner needs counselling.

1 hour 30 minutes to deliver food if I knew it would take that long I would’ve gone somewhere else

Food has changed. Rice and chicken is sooo salty its over powering. Chicken was over cooked and hard the chicken.has definitely changed from what is use to be which was well cooked chicken with a charred coating. Maybe frozen chicken? Gone down hill anyway!

It's the best Kebab I've ever had. Great food and service. We travel from fareham to either eat in or collect our order. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Phoned up and ordered at 17:08, it’s not 19:09 and food still hasn’t turned up. I phoned up but I couldn’t get through because it’s always busy. So my partner goes to the shop to figure out what’s going on and she gets told that the driver is on the way to our home. She’s come back and the driver still hasn’t turned up. So I phoned up again to try and get through. I finally managed to get through and this rude lady tells me if I don’t want the food I can turn the driver away. Absolutely horrendous service. I would never in a million years ever order from here. Please stay away!!!!!

The food seemed a bit expensive for a small pitta bread, some iceberg lettuce and not much meat. My two sons wanted to try a lamb donnar each. They weren’t that impressed. For the price I paid we could have got a lovely Chinese takeaway that would of filled us up.

Used to order from here all the time but seems to have gone down hill majorly!! Ordered large donner kebab with extra chilli but was definitely a small! Instead of putting the chilli sauce on the kebab they drowned my rice and chicken in it so couldn’t eat it.

Sadly, the quality of food experienced last night was really poor. For years, Shirins and Efes were the two best places in Pompey for a kebab - but not any more. Shirins served up semi-cold tasteless doner meat with over-cooked / dry chicken sheesh kebab, combined with some ropey old salad. I have visited many times over the years, and really wanted to recommend this place, but can’t do so based on last nights experience. Cash-only signs and surly staff suggest that this place has fallen on hard times … but if they don’t improve the quality of food served, they won’t be in business much longer.

Firstly cash only! Portion size very small. Salad was wet and soggy, came here in the eighties and nineties and was very good. Seems to have lost its way a bit.

Probably the worst kebab I’ve ever had, not just in Pompey. The meat was extremely dry and tasteless, chicken shish and lamb doner. Rice was bland, added there special sauce to it, probably should of gone without. Pitta was hard and lettuce looked abit brown and old. Chips can tell had been reheated, tasted like cardboard and to top of it I got collection turned up as they was bagging it and everything was cold by time I’d drove to my house 2 minutes away. Will never ever go back and do not recommend to anyone! on the plus side, dog had a better dinner than usual

Hi. I’ve always wanted a shirins I normally get mehmets or tangier rd. so I’ve ordered. Had to spend £12.60 for food and delivery. It turned up in rolled up paper stone cold. Absolutely fuming. Mehmets is lovely food and in polystyrene container presented well. After a 12 hour shift I had to eat it. Appalling no wonder the owner can afford personal plates and brand new BMW. Charging those prices

WORST PLACE. PLEASE AVOID. its milesq away from Persian food. Very very less quantity for the money they take. I ordered a large mix kebab with rice. Both the rice and kebabs were partially cooked and bad in taste. The food just ruined our evening. Plus during this covid times they don't have any facility of contactless payment and they accept only cash!!!!I will never visit them again.

So i paid £17.40 for delivery of a largest sized mixed kebab. What arrived was the most disappointing shirin kebab I've had in years. For 17 pounds the food portion was slim and definitely not worth the money I had 12 small cubes of lamb and chicken and 6 small slithers of lamb donner. I will be have a long break from this kebab house now after being robbed of a good meal.

This is by far the cleanest kebab house you can find. Everything tastes very fresh and very tasty. Try the chicken kebab👌👌

Have been going to the Shirin since the late 80's and is still the best kebab shop in Portsmouth

Normally my chosen kebab house when l visit Portsmouth but disappointed this time. Ordered large donar and a large chicken kebab takeaway which was cold when we got home (5 mins away) 🤔 so not convinced the kebab was freshly cooked. Pre covid you could stand in the shop and watch your meal being cooked. Another annoyance is cash only!

Ordered chicken kebab and Shish kebab from Shirin last Saturday No way did it live up to the hype. The bright red dyed chicken kebab was tasteless, as was the lamb kebab. We asked for chilli sauce and got barely a daub. Did we just get them on a bad night? Not at all impressed!

Proper old school kebab shop. Good healthy food with no nonsense. First found the Shirin back in the 80s when I moved round the corner and was busy trying out all the local take aways. Much has changed in the area since moving away but the Shirin has stayed the same. Full marks!

Simply the best kebab in Portsmouth

My best mate recommended we go here. He raves about it and he wasn’t wrong. Had a mixed kebab with rice and it was perfect. Lamb was cooked to perfection and nice and moist. Chicken was well cooked and lots of flavour. Rice was light and fluffy. Highly recommend you going here. Won’t be disappointed.

Lovely sit down meal on Friday with a couple of friends. It's not your typical kebab shop more like a small Persian restaurant. The lamb shish and Persian rice is to do for. Friendly staff too. Would recommend it to anyone even if they wanted a takeaway

That is a worse kebab we ever we had, as a Persian the shish Javan wasn’t marinated and very dry, no tomato in the portion of chelo kebab. The kobideh was small and price very high. Please don’t take it as a Persian cousin.

Best proper kebab in Portsmouth. Fabulous food, excellent quality, home made sauces and traditional food. The Rice is a must. No fat on the lamb. Been coming for nearly 20 years

Most people originally from Portsmouth will have heard of this restaurant, even if they haven't eaten here. It's a very popular take away, often taking many a call to get through on the phone! It's popularity is not to be sniffed at, the food is delicious. I try and sit in whenever I get the time, I love that extra freshness and the service is good too. Each time we eat here, the food is unreal; meat is tasty and tender, rice is amazing and the ambience of the open grill really adds to the experience. I definitely recommend trying to stop by if you can, but be warned it's very busy and you may need to wait to a table. It's worth it.

I've been eating from this place for as long as I've been living in Portsmouth. Not the biggest kebab fan but have always treated Shirins as the exception because the food is that great and always reliable whenever I've ordered. It’s very authentic and combining the doner kebab with their chilli sauce...you got yourself a winner there. On top of that, the fries are extremely well made and has the perfect crunchiness to it. Easily one of Shirins unique selling point. The service I often find is pretty quick too. Usually just a 10 minute wait. Sometimes less. However, the only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is that I haven't ordered anything else from the menu other than Doner Kebab, fries and rice. Though I'm sure everything else on the menu is great too and well prepared. Finally, I do believe the prices are justified given the quality of the food and quantity. Please do order from this place!

Never ever go or recommend this restaurant to any one. Kebabs were absolutely rubbish, Smelly and taste like tissue paper. and I wonder how much money we have paid for the rubbish food. Try somewhere else and save your day and money. One star is too much for them.

Very Tasty Kebab If you can get through on the phone. Very rarely can you get through these guys are so busy. We’re lucky if we get through every few months, as it’s constantly engaged. Shame because the foods usually pretty good.

Hemos usado Shirin durante muchos años y sin duda han hecho algunos kebabs muy buenos para nosotros en el pasado. Sin embargo, la última vez que pedimos (hace 2 meses) conseguimos carne de kebab realmente quemada y esta vez lo mismo otra vez. Pagamos aproximadamente 45 cada vez por 4 comidas y pensamos que les daríamos otra oportunidad pero todavía muy decepcionados. No es aceptable cobrar un precio tan alto cuando aproximadamente 15-20% de la comida se quema y no es comestible. Ya les habíamos dado dos oportunidades y cada vez parece empeorar. Espero que hagan mejoras y dejen de quemar su carne, ya que esto es simplemente inaceptable.

Debemos haber atrapado a estos tipos en un mal día, pasando por todas las críticas increíbles. Literalmente llegué a casa con mi kebab mixto y pollo / donner kebab. Olía bien y estaba caliente. Sin embargo, la carne no estaba bien, mal sabor. Tanto que comí dos piezas y me desanimé. Mi señora era la misma, pero probé la mía de todos modos, ninguno de nosotros comió más y se metieron en la basura.
