Dreadful breakfast. Luke warm food - bacon dried and crispy, fried egg had a hard yolk, potatoes/bacon was warm. Absolute waste of good money.

Great visit. Visited while on holiday in the area. Plenty of tables available although we did prebook. Served fairly quickly and not a big queue at the carvery. No pork available but all the other bears were. Plenty of the other bits, such as roasties, veg etc available. Staff were friendly and it looked to be a newish restaurant compared to my local one at home.

We love coming here usually but it can be a bit hit&miss sometimes. After the 2 previous visits being very good where staff were happy, smiley & friendly with food all freshly replenished, this time only smiley, happy friendly face was waitress Marley & dark haired chef carving the lovely meat. Roast Potatoes & peas were hard. Had to ask for fresh veg. Shame as its usually so good of late. We will still be returning though as we know they can do better.

Todo se sentía muy limpio y seguro. La selección de comida era menos de lo habitual, pero todo el grupo estaba contento con la selección. Optamos por Carvery y un pastel de hongos vegetariano, todos muy sabrosos y nos encantó que las verduras tuvieran un ligero crujido en el centro. El personal era conversador y simpático y muy amable. Definitivamente volveremos a visitar.

El restaurante estaba limpio, la comida es normal como cualquier Tobys Carvery. Pero esperar para sentarse lleva más tiempo cuando el restaurante no está lleno. Booked 2 tables as were a big family and had to be separated for the new government rules, tables booked for 5.15pm we were seated at our tables drinks were brought quickly, waitress asked if we wanted and pigs in blankets so we ordered two potions, we were them told the waiting time to go up to Carvery was 15minutes which under the circumstances wasn’t too bad well that was a load of bull we waited until 6.05pm to be told to go up 50 minutes wait is an absolute joke and the pigs in blankets came out at 5.50pm so was pointless ordering them safe to say we will not be returning to this Toby Carvery and sticking to Kenton bar one. We spent £115 for terrible service.

Service in general was terrible and certainly not to the standard of Kenton’s Toby previously visited a week before.We are a family of 8 so it’s not exactly a small bill and Shiremoor Toby was certainly not worth the money. We visited the Toby Carvery at Shiremoor for a family Sunday Lunch (three adults and two kids). The place was very presentable, plenty of parking, light, roomy, clean and welcoming. We had booked and after checking in, had a little wait in the bar area where we had a round of drinks before being taken to our table which gave us plenty of comfortable space. We all decided on the carvery option and took our turns in the not very long queue. The choice was from an impressive five meats (park, beef, turkey, gammon or lamb which you can ask the carver to mix as you wish, one, two or three meats, all sumptuous - then you can add your choice of the lovely vegetables, really giving loads of choice. All the food was very good, meats tender and flavoursome, vegetables properly cooked and tempting. The food was so plentiful that we didn’t have room for any dessert! We had five adult meals for a little over £10 per head! All-in-all great value for money. Everything was very acceptable and we really enjoyed ourselves, staff were welcoming and efficient; as I said, the place spotless and reassuring. We shall definitely revisit! Although, there seemed plenty of capacity, I suggest you book to avoid disappointment or a longer wait.

Didn't even get the chance to sit down. Despite being half empty the server at the door told us in a gloomy mood that it would be 25 minutes before we could be seated due to being a staff member down. Don't under stand that one. Won't be back. If they can't cope with a half empty restaurant with one staff member down it doesn't bode well

We live local and have tried here a couple of times over the previous few years, but decided go with third time lucky this evening.Unfortunately, the whole experience is just a let down. The quality of the meat is very poor (incredibly fatty and it's sliced wafer thin) and portion size is a little disappointing for the price. The veg was also underwhelming - most of it had dried out (the stuffing looked inedible) or needed replenishing. The roast potatoes were rock hard and looked very unappetising.Our drinks were also flat - we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Never again.

truly awful, the beef was so fatty it was inedible, such poor quality and the veg were cold. I will never eat there again

Great food, great staff, fair price - will definately be back. Head and shoulders above another carvery visited recently.

Awful place, awful food. Only saving grace is the staff, who are friendly. I'll not be back. Meat was chewy and not good quality. Soft drinks were undrinkable. Veg was almost inedible, mashed potato was like paste. Gravy was like thickened warm water. A waste of an afternoon and £26

It was interesting reading another review complaining about the portion size of the meat. At first I thought it was just us who thought they were being mean.Our visit didn't start well when my first choice of drink wasn't stocked (Stella Artois, so hardly something out of the ordinary) and my second choice (draught cider) was apparently frozen in the pipes. We should have taken this as an omen and left right then.We had to wait a while at the carvery for the chef to appear and then we were given measly portions of meat. As much as we visited at 1 o'clock and the place didn't look like it had been busy, some of the vegetables were quite low (roast potatoes. parsnips and cauliflower cheese) and when we got to the gravy we had to ask what the various ones were as there weren't any signs to tell us (the chef hunted them out just after that).To say the taste of the food was disappointing would be an understatement. You needed a spoon to eat the mashed potato as it was so runny, the cauliflower cheese had that horrible reheated taste about it and everything was nowhere near hot. We would have mentioned it to the waitress, but she didn't bother to come and ask how our meal was and only appeared to clear our plates. She said 'it was just the kind of potatoes' when we mentioned how runny they were and after we said the food wasn't anywhere near hot enough she went away then returned to say it had all been tested and it was fine. No, we definitely won't be back.

Came here the sunday before xmas with my parents and family (6 of us). I had booked but expected to wait. Got there 5 minutes early and got taken straight to the table. Food was great with a massive choice and service was excellent

I called in at Toby on the spur of the moment to breakfast. This wasn’t the first call here, I’ve experienced lunches also with varying levels of satisfaction, at one point I said three strikes and out, but convenient so ended back in to a better experience. Self service eat as much as you like, but really Quality over quantity is what I’m after. For about £6.20 or thereabouts free top ups of coffee isn’t breaking the bank. Set out before you self service after feeding to bread through the toaster one can stack up the plate. The bacon was one big lump out from a pack, multiple slices stuck together cooked lightly, clearly no prep time given. I’m not happy no scrambled egg, just fried. All other offerings were fine, mushrooms, potatoes even Yorkshire puddings with gravy if one is inclined to indulge. Reasonable satisfaction in filling a hole, not impressed on this occasion and if I were to keep to my three strike then out maybe this is the time of reckoning !

Wife and I have visited at least once a week two weeks ago went there and I asked for pork and gammon the carver who had a bull ring in his nose gave me one thin slice of each and I commented "Christ is that all?"he did not answer I found out he was the head chef who ever taught him to carve thin done a brilliant job.We returned and the carver was good and we had the amount we normally have and guessed this was a one off.Wrong!.The next time we visited was an older woman carving and she done the same,(to her credit she has always been fine so I guess she has been told and following orders) I asked if there was a set amount and she said 160 grams I said that's less and she cut another piece and put very reluctantly put it on the plate.( been caught once I was ready to get her to weigh it and hold up the queue)The waiting staff and the meal was very nice but it depends who is carving if you get a reasonable portion of meat.The other carvers are good. If they are carving don't expect a plate overflowing with meat !!!

Food was excellent with a great choice of meats and veg. The yorkshires were huge and tasty and all the appropriate extras were there eg; mint sauce, horseradish etc. The staff were very friendly and caring overall great time thanks

Shocking from start to finish. Attitude of staff was awful, was actually shouted at for finding a table after waiting a while to be greeted. No turkey, beef or gravy at 1.30pm. Clearly just unprepared for how busy it was. Probably colder inside than out too which led to food going cold. Just an awful experience in generally and will not be back

As always food excellent. The staff are always attentive, friendly & helpful. If you want a carvery I would definitely recommend this Toby restaurant at Shiremoor

I'll start by saying (a) you're not going be disappointed if you like meat - so I daresay a rating of two may be harsh but (b) this is the second time in a row I've been in with family and they've had either very limited numbers of one dish i.e. x1 of one thing and x1 of another thing - or - no choice whatsoever i.e. only one dish - tonight was "Brie and Brocolli bake" - so thats no vegan choice either (I'm only veggie BTW but I don't want cheese every night either).I'm glad I asked mind you BEFORE I'd ordered a round of drinks because this information WASNT going to be volunteered e.g. a board at the door explaining which veggie + vegan choices are available. I'm not angry per se, I simply won't go back - not worth the stress.

Excellent, perfectly cooked food and outstanding staff Vegetarian option is lovely, it's not just for meat eaters Highly recommended

The food was very good with a large variety of meats and vegetables. The only negative if it can be called such was the Yorkshire Pudding was too big and the persoo who was to carve the meat had to be "sent for" although this could have been for a valid reason and a one-off. I would certainly visit again in the future and can recommend this Carvery.

The food is not the problem in this restaurant its the staff!!!!! Look at your staff and look at your complaints!!The staff walk around this place with huge egos its unreal? There walking round and round the restaurant on there phones texting and making calls constantly ? Not attending to tables. 1 chef or server if thats what you call it, 11 people in a cue at the food counter took us 15 minutes to get served ? And we weren’t the only ones noticing this, How is this possible it was taking ages for him to cut meat, however saying that the other chef, only way a can describe him covered in tattoos strutting around the counter not assisting one bit? He could see we were all stud there like planks waiting and wasn’t bothered just proceeded to go sit at the bar and play on his phone, others were no better. Look at your complaints and address your issues 80 bad reviews and 75 poor ones overrides the 108 good ones you have!! Looks like the staff run this and the manager just shows up if there is one. Wont come back been a regular customer.

Mi compañero y yo visitamos hoy aquí para almorzar, donde ambos tuvimos la carne (o falta de ella) asador. Las verduras eran lo suficientemente agradables y una selección decente, pero la carne era lo que solo se puede describir como sobras. Tal vez el chef que sirve hoy en el asador no pueda tallar, lo que explicaría la expresión miserable de su rostro en todo momento, o se le dice que dé lo mínimo, anímate hombre.

Last visit I was told by the manageress to ring ahead to order dairy free mash. Went last night at 8pm and rang at 5pm. So thought 3 hours notice should be enough but no it isn't told the had already made all the mash for the evening when I arrived at 8. Felt like someone was lying. But received no customer service at all. The waitress when paying for our bill couldn't even look at us when talking to us. As we were still eating they started setting up for breakfast which isn't very welcoming.

I wasn’t expecting much tbh, we’ve eaten here a couple of times before and I found you didn’t get a decent amount of meat and the quality wasn’t great. This time however I was given a couple of large slices of nicely cooked turkey - the chef was very polite and helpful. I avoided the beef as it looked very fatty as did the pork. The veg was ok - the mash lumpy but the Yorkshire pud was lovely and crispy. I enjoyed my food and certainly can’t complain at the price. I wish people wouldn’t be so greedy though, it’s not surprising that the kitchen struggle to keep up when people give themselves such huge portions and take four Yorkshire puds!

Although the food was reasonably priced at £7.99 for the carvery you didn’t get much meat at all. Also £7.45 for a glass of wine.

Nunca he estado en este, así que pensé en probarlo y las primeras impresiones fueron bastante buenas, se veía bien dentro del personal que parecía bastante amable y estaba bastante ocupado. Una vez sentados, nos preguntaron sobre cualquier alérgeno y mi esposa, que es celíaca, se sentó y escuchó todo lo que no podía comer, papas asadas, queso de coliflor, salsa de carne, pudines de Yorkshire que estaba lista para salir pero odia hacer un escándalo. . La comida estaba bien, nada especial, los enormes postres de yorkshire estaban crudos y totalmente húmedos y fríos en el medio. La carne estaba llena de cartílago y grasa, dejó la mayor parte. Notamos un anuncio de descuento de la tarjeta de luz azul y cuando llegó el momento de pagar, preguntamos al respecto y la camarera tomó el teléfono de mi esposa y desapareció durante unos 5 minutos. Pensé que esto era muy extraño, ya que seguramente debería hacerse en la mesa por razones de seguridad. Ambos estuvimos de acuerdo en que este lugar no era genial y la comida no era buena. No volveré y, para ser sincero, realmente no entiendo por qué la gente califica este lugar. . . . . . .
