Shire Horse in Windsor and Maidenhead

We were a big party of 25 celebrating a retirement, who had pre-ordered. We had time to chat before and then the food came promptly. A huge variety of choice. Super service throughout.

We were greeted so warmly and served in an extremely efficient manner. There was a wedding function on in an area of the pub however this didn’t stop us being made feel as really valued customers. Highly impressed with the service and manner in which we were dealt with through your whole meal experience!

Mel was so welcoming and recommended the beef cheeks which was delicious. She was so lovely and friendly. We were seated quickly her service was professional and not rushed. She is an amazing asset to your company

Lovely setting, and friendly staff. Food was served promptly, but was just ok (not particularly tasty or flavoursome - descriptions sounded a lot better than what was actually served). Quite expensive for what you get. Ordered a coffee and had to ask three times for it to arrive. Dog friendly. Overall assessment is that although the setting is nice, food is more expensive and less nice than something like a Harvester. Wouldn't return.

Love this Chef and Brewer, always a good experience. Have visited several C and B’s some good, some ok and some not so good but this is one of our favourites, staff friendly and good service.

We had our Christmas meet up x5 people tasty food, great staff and really friendly atmosphere. I have visited numerous times and never been let down by the food and hospitality!!!

Had our works Xmas meal here. We were originally supposed to be a party of 9 but unfortunately 2 had to drop out. This didn't faze the staff at all, although we obviously had to change the pre booked meal details. Super friendly staff & delicious food. Had a lovely evening and will definitely be going back !

Connor saved the evening for us, as we had issues with another restaurant He took us (11) people at very short notice and was helpful, friendly & made us very very welcome I can not express how helpful Connor was, he not only saved the evening but went above & beyond for us thank Connor

The atmosphere was fabulous, staff very welcoming and attentive, the food and beer was superb. We both had steaks that were perfectly cooked. I love the beer from the local brewery.

All staff were very friendly and efficient. A well run pub.

Lovely meal here with the girls from work, food great, nice casual, comfy place to spend time but the staff were the best thing, all so friendly and helpful. Our waitress (young lady with long hair, sorry I didn't get her name) couldn't do enough for us and really made our evening a delight. Thank you to all of them!

Our visit was due to us catching up with friends for lunch before Christmas. We were impressed by the vegan options on the menu, as so many establishments offer just a burger and The Shire Horse had some imaginative dishes available. The food was superb and beautifully presented; other pub chains, take note! The ambience in the pub was lovely with a real fire and plenty of atmosphere. The service from the staff was impeccable and professional, with all waiting staff very efficient and attentive, without being intrusive. My husband asked to speak with the manager, which worried the staff, but he wanted to commend the staff, food and management. However, the manager was unavailable so we asked for our comments to be passed on to them and the staff. We have already recommended the pub to other members of our family who live locally and we are going to return for another visit. Many thanks.

Amazing food, service and warm cozy pub

We had a family meal here on a Sunday, there were 10 of us and the place was packed. We did wait longer than normal for our food but there were a lot of big parties in there. Food was amazing! Atmosphere was brilliant, very festive and the staff were great.

came for dinner with my family and the service was amazing from Hugh and Hattie. Nothing was to much for them and went above and beyond to ensure we was all happy. Definitely recommend, thank you!

Served by Bonny who was lovely we have ate here a few times very hit or miss we had the festive menu food was ok but veg was uneditable I didn’t no Brussels sprouts held so much water and turned to mush bacon under cooked fish dry menu has potential if cooked properly I hope you was having a bad day and better for Christmas Day

Really enjoyed it nice atmosphere. Dont forget your antihistamines if you are allergic to dogs.

Staff a bit stretched all a bit slow

Went for Sunday lunch, from start to finish, friendly warm welcome by Melanie, excellent food and service. It's our favourite place to eat.

Don't order the garlic mushrooms for a starter. It's literally 2 small mushrooms on small thin slice of bread. I expected 5 or 6 mushrooms to be honest. For £6.99 or 2 mushrooms, I think day light robbery.

I took my dearest friend for dinner. Wow the food was amazing I would defo recommend the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie and the Apple Tart. Staff was absolutely lovely & friendly we were served by Oakley she was a delight such a beautiful friendly young lady. Can’t wait to go again defo 5 stars from me & my bestie. Service is extremely slow. They took almost 45 minutes after serving us drinks, before coming to take our food order. Starters arrived another 45 minutes later and the order for our mains was taken almost 1 hour after the starters were done. Food was ordinary. The menu is fancy in their description but the eventual meal is rather a let down. The place is well lit and nicely decorated. Ambience is welcoming. But the main parts of the experience i.e. the food and service were a let down.

Lovely atmosphere, decorated really lovely. Food was lovely (when it arrived). However, super slow service. We went Sunday morning for breakfast (around 10am) and waited well over an hour for the food to arrive. Young waitress was very friendly, however, the male working with her not so friendly. Repeatedly talked down to this poor young girl, very rude to her and was actually quite uncomfortable to hear/see at times.

Period property pub with a really good restaurant. Food excellent with wide menu. Manager Jay was non-stop busy but very attentive and a great character. All staff we dealt with were excellent. Great lunch visit.

Great food and even better service - this time from Seb - he was efficient and good humoured, a credit to the pub. Thank you. We had another lovely Sunday lunch at the Shire Horse, meeting up with family. It’s pretty much in the middle of us all geographically so a great option with a large car park which makes meeting there easy. Always welcomed with a smile and the food, service and value for money is very good, all in a lovely pub setting. Looking forward to a summer lunch in the garden! Thank you.

Went for a roast dinner and couldn't have asked for better. Service was amazing staff couldn't have done more for us. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was amazing. Go for breakfast most Sundays. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Ample car parking and easy to get to on main A4 road to Maidenhead.

I took my elderly mother and her sister to the Shire Horse last week. It was lovely, good food and friendly staff. Melanie served us and made us feel most welcome. Also she helped with seating and making sure my relatives were comfortable, never rushing us at all. We all had a great afternoon. Would highly recommend. Thank you to all.

Had a big family meal for a birthday, service was fantastic and food was delicious. We felt very looked after and all the team, especially Chloe, were brilliant. Would deffo recommend.

We were served by Oakley who couldn’t do enough for us and made sure that everything was perfect, especially as one of us has an allergy. She was very friendly and checked regularly that we were happy with everything. The food was very good, I had toad in the hole with bubble and squeak, followed by a mini trifle and a latte. It was unfortunate that the vegetarian toad in the hole was not available that night, but my friend was very happy with the option she eventually chose.

The Shire Horse was the perfect stop. All the staff were super friendly to everyone and Sebastian made us feel very welcome. The food was absolutely delicious with no exception (we had Whipped Goat’s Cheese Starter, Barber’s [Hunter’s] Chicken, Duo of Chicken and Halloumi Fries). We noted that it was dog friendly and to top it off, the decor was really lovely. We definitely recommend this pub/restaurant!

Lovely place, really clean and great with my kids and dog. The food was great and the kids portion was amazing. They accommodated really well for a severe allergy that one of our kids had and offer lots of options that can be altered to be allergen free. Priced really well and was extremely happy with our visit, will definitely be back.

My partner and I had such a wonderful meal here. The food was delicious (we had the trio of roasts and 7-hour slow cooked beef roast) and the atmosphere was so cosy and friendly. We were served by Mel, who is an absolute love! She was very helpful, kind and patient. Thank you Mel! X

Excellent service and food tonight. The management were fantastic. We booked for 21 horse riders from a local stables, they had all of our food ready and served within 20 mins. A family friend treated me to lunch on 8 September, we were a party of 6. Staff were welcoming, service good and the food excellent, venison cooked to perfection.This establishment is family friendly, for children and dogs. Restroom was clean. Definitely worth a visit.

Called in as I had a voucher for 2 meals for £20. Wow what a deal I would be happy to pay 5 times that due to the amazing food and service. The manager came over to chat with us and was a really nice chap made us feel really welcome. I visit many chef and brewers as I like the food and this has to be one of the best

As soon as you walk in you’re welcomed by the staff, the service from everyone was incredible. Food wasn’t a long wait whatsoever it was so delicious. Highly recommend coming here if you want a quiet evening dinner or just a couple of drinks with friends!

The food is good, the inside and garden are really nice, and the staff are friendly. The problem is there is never enough staff on which usually results in waiting 5+ mins at the bar to be served, even if there’s only a few patrons.

We returned to the fantastic Shire Horse this evening. As "locals" we often drop in for a pre dinner drink. Today, we decided to take a look at the menu and so pleased that we did. We ordered starters and mains. Both courses were delicious... and served impeccably. Thanks to the entire team; Jay, Mel especially (totally cusomer focased), please continue with the amazing level of service. We'll definitely return. X

Sadly I had an awful meal here. Selected a ploughman’s from the ‘Special’s’ menu which was about £21. I got some dried up toast with 3 bits of blue cheese, a whole apple, 6 sticks of celery all on some crisps and 2 microwaved sausage rolls. I went back in to explain the bread was awful and I had no cheddar and this was brought out to me. Then once I re read the menu I realised I also hadn’t been given any terrine or crackers. By this point my whole family had finished their meals and I couldn’t be bothered to go back in again. The meal was one of the worst Iv had at a pub. Very disappointed as this pub is usually good.

Not often that I feel compelled to write a review! My mum and I had a wonderful evening at The Shire Horse last night. Staff were friendly, conscientious and all aware of my Mum's gluten intolerance. Due to having coeliac disease even cross contamination can make her very unwell. Staff were more than happy to check that the food was gluten free and despite having a few different waitresses they made us feel reassured. The food was delicious (Sausage and Mash - delicious sausages) and service wonderful. We'll be back :-)
