Have always had a lovely meal at this pub but something has gone drastically wrong in the kitchen. It is now what a restaurant would be like if Iceland started serving food. Frozen chicken burger and fish cakes. Not worth the money.

Not been here since it was made over. Obviously, the great draw is your prime location. We were a visiting yacht and booked for my birthday. The mentioned location, ambiance, decor all good. Service was good. Think a little sneaky to immediately say "would you like still or sparkling water for the table".....we just said yes and then realised it was pricey mineral of course - should offer tap too (i know we could have asked for this, but it still felt a little cynical). My steak was wonderful (and I'm fussy on my steak) great meat, well cooked. Other meals were ok, but burger was very sloppy! Main problem was my girlfriends steak pie. All the meat was grissley and tough. We had a desert and a cocktail for afters and this issue was accounted for by the cocktail being free. Ok, that's good, but if it was me I would have taken the pie off the bill too. Nice touch on the happy birthday on my plate, but the coconut icecream was salty and the pear was tiny and a bit hard. For nearly 8 quid? Generally i think we left feeling yeah, that was nice but very pricey for what it was and my girlfriend had hardly eaten! Not serial complainers....been to many many restaurants and pubs over the years....have family who are in catering, so know the issues. This is just our honest opinion.

We have lived in the area for nearly 20 years but only this Winter started visiting the Ship on Fridays , for a drink and some nibbles , after a long walk. We really enjoyed it. Last Sunday we went for dinner for the first time, with our two late teens children. Probably the bar experience is a bit more lively and it has a fire which keeps the bar area warmer than the restaurant. My son loved the triple roast! Would come back for a glass of read and the nibbles by the fire again.

We had a fantastic lunch experience at this spot in early March. Despite not booking in advance, we were seated promptly upon arrival. The vibe and decor added to the relaxed atmosphere. The menu had a good variety, catering to different tastes. It had been a while since our last visit, but we were pleased to find that the quality was still top-notch. We were looked after and were provided with excellent service - friendly and attentive. Our food choices included the Dirty Burger, which was particularly delicious with its beef dripping sauce. The beef and merlot pie was rich and satisfying, and the duck and noodle salad had a nice blend of flavours. We also tried the super foods bowl and the half rotisserie chickens, both of which were enjoyed by everyone at the table. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and we'll definitely be back sooner next time.

While visiting the area, we pre-booked breakfast at Seashells on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we encountered an unexpected challenge upon arrival as the restaurant is located on the first floor. Having not noticed this on the website (there’s a note on the contact page which we hadn’t visited), it proved difficult for my husband, who has restricted mobility. While we managed to negotiate the stairs, it wasn’t ideal and unfortunately means we won’t be returning. As for the breakfast itself, the full English was underwhelming and lacked the quality we expected, both in terms of ingredients and presentation. The service was equally disappointing, with the staff seeming unfriendly and disengaged, which added to the negative experience. On a more positive note, the view from the restaurant is lovely, but overall, the experience was not one we would repeat.

I live locally and have eaten and had drinks at the Rising Sun a few times since it was taken over by Fullers. The food is ok. It's so much better than it was prior to takeover but comes with a hefty price tag. In my opinion the quality of the food does not match the cost. I had the 2 course lunch recently: the terrine was tasty but the bread had not been toasted properly. The main course of beef Ragu and pasta was really disappointing. It was a bit of a sloppy mess and not worth the cost at all. The steak I had on another visit was good but for the same cost I'd get better elsewhere. Drinks are pretty good and a decent choice. Again, approximately £7-8 for a pint seems ridiculously high. Service is generally good. The atmosphere is ok and fairly good at weekends. Overall I don't think I could recommend the Rising Sun. If you want good food, good drinks or good atmosphere then there are other better pubs and restaurants locally. One positive is it has a good garden and play area for kids.
